  1. Wow! That is a puzzler. If you haven't, try with a brand new plug and make sure you still have the problem. My guess is that it'd have to be coils or TCI. That is the range where the ignition advance starts to kick in, wonder if it's a failing TCI. Be interesting to watch with a timing light and see if it looks flaky when it is firing.
  2. How are you determining that your problem is with 1 & 3? Your post gives me the impression that it runs fine below 2000RPM and find above 2500. Do I read that correctly? Or do you mean you have cylinder(s) dropping out as you wind it up?

Joe, Are you still in Trenton? I thought you'd moved? I'm chasing up a group out of Taylor Sat. AM if you want to join us (Link to topic) I'll be coming back Sunday rather than Saturday though. It'd be great to have you join us, I really enjoyed riding with you in '08. If you can ride down with us please respond in the other thread. Carl
  4. I've got a bike in my shop now where I have not been able to drive the axle out with a 3lb. sledge. Of course it's also in here because something is wrong with the assembly and the caliper carrier is rubbing the wheel. Axles should always get some grease or anti seize so they come out next time.
  5. We'll be leaving for Maintenance Day from the Leon's on Telegraph in Taylor, MI the morning of Sat. June 19. Meet for breakfast at 7:30, stands up at 8:30 (we'll make first fuel stop in Stony Ridge Ohio.) Return trip Sunday afternoon for those wanting to share ride home. The address for Leons is: 8787 Telegraph Rd. Taylor, MI 48180 Please reply here if you will be joining us.
  6. New guy brings the ice cream.
  7. The vents have tabs on the side opposite the screw to hold that side in place. After you remove the screw you should be able to slide the vent sideways to disengage the tabs. So, looking at motorcycle from the front: The vent on your left - remove screw, slide vent left and remove. Opposite for right side.
  8. It can happen any time of day. We saw one standing along I75 South of Florence KY Thursday midday.
  9. Direct connect to the battery is the proper hookup. I run a pair of 55w lights and electric anti-dives on my 89 without that problem. I think you need to dig deeper.
  10. Any chance you would hold that hitch for me? Pretty please?
  11. Gary, I can never read them well in pictures but will give it my best shot. It appears the insulators are the same color as the board the plugs are laying on. If so, it is lean but not real lean. If they're white you're very lean. If it were mine, I'd turn the pilot screw out 1/2 turn and see if I could get it to darken up a bit.
  12. If you seal up the vents no fumes can get in. In all seriousness though, many of us ride in groups and around cages with no ill effects. Why would a dog be any different? It's not like you plumb the thing to the exhaust pipes. My lab mix is deathly afraid of motorcycles. Hook up her trailer though and she can't wait to get in. Ride 200 miles and let her out and if I don't slam the door quick she's right back in. Apparently she doesn't mind being tied up in a cage behind a motorcycle.
  13. Uh oh. Better go back to the steering head clinic plan then....... Or, you could use the tool I sent Don. (Gary, I think one of us has been insulted!) How are you guys set for shims? I'm about to place an order with the supplier tomorrow, should get them there just in time if I put them in tomorrows order.
  14. WOW! I bought one about 18 months ago for 50ish. They've really gone up!
  15. That'll let your air out too.
  16. Run them up to their max pressure and get out the soapy water. It's probably a slow leak so you'll have to wet everything down and let it sit in the shade for an hour. The spots that leak should look like shaving cream is on them.
  17. I really enjoy riding, but don't think I'd do it if my wife wasn't supportive. Doubt I'd ride if the kids weren't grown either. Sounds like you still have some healing to do, take a season off and revisit it next year. At 28 you've got a lot of time to get back into it later.
  18. If you want a good look at the front of a 1st gen this is your chance. Go spy on it while he's busy unpacking. Once he starts riding you're unlikely to see the front again.
  19. Saw this too late, but replying for the next guy. I got the RAM mount that threads into a 10mm mirror hole. Threaded it in in place of the bolt that holds the radio controller on the clutch lever perch.
  20. Yep. You can bet people will be zipping all around using their cell phones and oblivious to the pedestrians they maim......
  21. I was wondering the same thing. Last night I watched the shearing operation and the pipe began to leak at the shears before it began to significantly pinch. I realize that if you were trying to pinch you'd use something blunt rather than a cutting edge, but I wonder if the pipe wall is so thick it cracks before it will pinch closed. That would also explain why it is leaking at the tight bend above the BOP. I can't imagine why they'd be dragging their feet. Every extra hour this leaks is costing them millions. The pressure in the pipe is 15,000PSI. In a 6 inch pipe that's 424,000 pounds trying to push the balloon back out. Not a small problem to overcome I think.
  22. :thumbsup2:Each cheek has it's own seat. What will they think of next.
  23. Yeah, I wouldn't ride that one to the mail box and back. Looks like you can expect the tread to separate. Best to replace it real quick.
