  1. In this case you may have your steering head bearings just a little loose, maybe a 1\16th of a turn. You can tighten them a bit and then carefully take it out for a ride and see how it pans out. If you have them too tight, you'll find the bike is steering on it's own and wants to go it's own way, not the way of the road.
  2. My problem with the Condor Brace was that exactly, it wouldn't fit, so I loosened the axle bolt to get it in. Later, I actually reshaped the brace just a little to get it to fit nicely, but not sure if that is now an issue. I gave my OEM brace to somebody else but am going to try the OEM from Wizard765 soon. Maybe I'll find something out.
  3. My 85 will do something like that, but it doesn't take all that funny movement to do it. When I come to a stop, maybe a little hard at the end, my front end will 'dive' , go down, stay there and won't come back up until I happen to release the clutch a little and then up it pops. This doesn't happen all the time, just sometimes.. I have progressives and normally run about 4 pounds of pressure in the front, simply because it won't go any less. I also have a 'squiggle' at 120 kph. I wonder if it's all related. And yes, I have tore the whole front end down and put it back together very carefully,,,, but maybe I missed something.

  6. If you look into the exhaust end of the muffler, you can see a small 'plate' in the middle. It takes about a 3\4" or 7\8" bit to clear this out. I started with a 7\16 twist drill and then finished the job with a 7\8" spade bit..... so much for the spade bit, but it worked. There is also one if you look at the inlet of the muffler, so if you want you can remove it as well, but now you might be running into more issues with carbs and noise.
  7. Looks good guys,,, now all you need to do is to add a trailer hitch,,, 'cause you just know that won't be enough room, now that she thinks she can take stuff!!!
  8. Are you sure it's leaking from between the joints and that there is not a hole in the collector? Also, there is a pin hole in the muffler, just behind the collector and it points down. These will show signs of 'leakage' but it is designed that way and is normal. Also, if you drill out the muffler it will give you a bit of a deeper sound, less back-pressure and so maybe solve the leakage problem.
  9. Seeing as the rotors are open to the elements and subject to getting wet or dirty, the pads will always rub slightly on the rotor, to keep them warm and dry and to keep them clean. If your rotor gets wet, then you'll find a large reduction in braking effect. JMTCW
  10. There will always be a certain amount of drag with the calipers. You might have too much drag but that is best found out by going for 20 minute ride and then check out temp of the calipers.

  17. Just make sure you don't get one like I've got,,, it's very safe but won't charge anything unless it senses at least 7 volts, what a PITA.
  18. Glad you made it out so well, sorry for your scoot. Just an idea for next time though: when riding in those conditions, stand up on your boards or pegs, it lowers the center of gravity and so makes the bike more easy to handle. It is good to practice doing this in a parking lot, because you'll be apprehensive at first, but once you're used to it a bit, you'll be surprised at how easy it really is and how well the scoot responds to your inputs. We learned this at MC training, and I've used it a number of times.

  20. If it's the 83 you are working on, careful with those 6 bolts, they break easy, only 5 point 8 foot pounds torque.
  21. With crappy weather that is the best time for SeaFoam. 1 tank of gas or less, full can of seafoam, run it for about 20 minutes, then shut off. After that, start it up when ever you think of it, at least 2 x per day to get fresh seafoam into the idle circuit. If this take a week, so much the better, it gives the product time to work it's magic.
  22. Nice to see that this thread didn't make it all the way south. Glad to see you guys can get yourselves out of trouble. Interesting discussion, a little bit of undoing and then an effort on healing,,, real family! I'll reserve my comments for now.
  23. Ya forget about the lube part, I took another look at one and if you have to lube it, you'd best find another one.
