  1. Check out the Talimena Trail http://www.talimenascenicdrive.com/ Also, though it's a little further north, don't miss Mt. Magazine. I prefer the approach from the south. http://www.mountmagazinestatepark.com/ Hope this helps Lynn
  2. Goose, I thought about the fact that you might pass through on the way do MD. I'm on the bike in Henderson, Texas but will be home tomorrow night. I'll shoot a px and see if I can remember how to post it. 3,000 miles is a conservative estimate - my tendancy. Otherwise, I wouldn't have removed a perfectly good tire. Whether you take the tire or not, I'd welcome the opportunity to buy you a meal as you pass through. Lynn
  3. Back in March I took a perfectly good Avon (Stock size) off the front of my RSMV because we had planned a 3,000 mile ride to Key West dragging the trailer and I wanted to start with a new tire. There was snow on the ground the day we were to leave and we ended up caging it Bottom line - I have an Avon that I think has at least 3,000 miles left in it and it is yours if you want it. Just cover the UPS shipping. In fact, if you get the tire and it's not what you expected, I'll reimburse the shipping charge. How can you beat that?? OR come by Little Rock, Arkansas, and pick it up. No charge at all. This ought to be a fantastic deal for any of you guys who mount your own tires or have a friend to do it for you. I don't have that option and that's the reason the tire is available. Lynn
  4. Bill, I was sure looking forward to meeting you guys and enjoying anther ride of Arkansas Scenic 7. I even recruited another Venture riding preacher to come with me. BUT I got a call today that my elderly (91 yrs old) mother is in the hospital in Alabama. Obviously I'll be there this weekend instead of at the Hub. Maybe next time Lynn
  5. I knew the original plan was to come Saturday morning but thought you had changed to a Friday night stay. So, what time do you think you'll arrive Saturday? Lynn
  6. Bill - didn't matter to me which day you chose but it IS important to know. I, too, cannot be there for the entire time (too many trips and not enough time at home) but WILL be there for the dinner and next day. I haven't registered yet but will now that I have the information I need. BTW still plan on seeing you guys next weekend - up and back on Saturday - not staying overnight. Lynn
  7. If the weather is decent I'll try to run up and meet you guys at the Hub. What time are you calculating for "brunch?" Lynn
  8. Kenny, Man I'm sorry to hear about your break. You've got a lot of friends here. Let us know if we can help. God bless Lynn
  9. Close but not very. It's actually Mountainview and a very worthy stop at that. Highway 9 from just north of Mountainview to Melbourne is probably the crookedest road in Arkansas. It is really FUN with some great scenery. Try Sr14 from Yellville to the intersection of 14, 9 and 5 (Eat at Anglers while you're there) and take SR 9 to Melbourne. Sorry Eddie that I'm in MD instead of home in Vilonia (one of the gateways to the Ozarks) or we would ride with you. Lynn
  10. Great pictures! We've been talking about making the trip. Summer 2010 for sure!
  11. Brenda followed me home in her car one night recently and was really upset about the lack of lighting on the rear of my Venture. I spotted the info quoted below from Eddie Fulmer (who originally led me to this site) and ordered the LED light bar he mentioned. I installed it today and both Brenda and I are very happy with the results. Pictures are not necessary - just look at Eddie's. So once again I have to say, "Thanks Eddie." Lynn
  12. It is a personal preference thing - my preference is for my speedometer to accurate. I've seen the 7.5 figure tossed around but I assure you mine was just over 9% off and it is now about as close to exact as a speedometer can be. The speedohealer was worth the cost and easy to install. Lynn
  13. Or, obviously, ABOVE Lynn
  14. Lifesong by Casting Crowns
  15. Welcome Owen & Jeanean. Thanks for introducing yourselves - glad to have you here. Lynn
  16. George, I'd like to see the pix - perhaps one head on (looking at the headlight) and one from the driver's position. Thanks! Lynn
  17. Crikey mate! Snags on the barbie and biking through the gum trees. It's time for this Yank to bet back downunder. Sure miss Oz. Hope to see you in November Lynn
  18. I think what you are describing is common. The only thing is, there is no way to know how much fuel is actually left without running the bike completely out of fuel. I'm not brave enough to do this - though a time or two I thought I was close. My light comes on with the fuel gauge showing 1/3 tank left. About ten miles later, the engine starves for fuel if I don't switch to reserve. I always switch to reserve when the light comes on to avoid the experience OR I keep the fuel valve on reserve all the time. I have ridden until the lights on the fuel gauge were completely gone and cold sweat was running. I had visions of trying to push this 800 pound monster down the shoulder of the road or abandoning it while looking for fuel. When I made it to the gas station, I vowed never to push my luck that far again. When I filled the tank, I put 5.5 gallons in even though I tried my best to fill it to the tippy top. This bike is hard to fill up completely. Do not base how much is left on how much you can put in and what the manual gives as the capacity of the tank. I repeat, it's almost impossible to put that much in this tank. Bottom line to me is this; what does it matter when the light comes on as long as I have a pretty good idea how far I can go after it comes on. That too depends on riding style, speed, etc. etc. My wife constantly reminds me of what my dad told me many years ago, "It doesn't cost any more to fill the top half of the tank than the bottom half." She also makes it very clear that she doesn't push! Lynn
  19. Goose. You are right! I left home for a day ride and thought I had sufficient tread. Honestly did not know then where the indicators were. THe AR patches/rock on Scenic 7 ate away at my tire and I blew the rear on a curve at little Switzerland (bout 10 miles from the Hub). This was on my Vstar 1100. Thankfully I just coasted into a gravel parking lot - called the Hub and got towed to Harrison Yamaha. WONDERFUL people there fixed me up got me back on the road. Now I know very well where the wear indicators are and, knowing how thin the tire is when it gets there, I will NOT push my luck again. Lynn
  20. Dropped by Hamilton AL Yamaha at noon today and they have a red 09 RSV on the showroom floor. Salesman checked the book and said $15,500 before sales tax (I'm from out of state so that's the price I asked for). BTW He first said 8 grand! You should have seen me stumbling over myself running in his direction trying to get my American Express card out of my pocket as fast as I could. In my haste I mumbled something about "Venture" and he said, "Oh, I thought you meant the 1300." That's when he looked in the book and gave me right price. My heartbeat has since returned to normal. Lynn
  21. There is a Fairfield Inn beside the cracker barrel at exit 156. It is near the "New" Baptist hospital and just down from Super Walmart. Exit right at mile marker 156, turn right on Spring Hill, left on Health care drive and into the Fairfield Inn. You can see it from the Cracker Barrel. It's a safe area at a reasonable price. If she's not happy with those accommodations, the Holiday Inn Express is further down the street past the Cracker Barrel (Spring Hill) and turn left on McCain Blvd. We've put up visiting speakers and missionaries at the Fairfield without problems. Sorry we are out of town or we might be more help. Lynn
  22. Ditto. This won't work without Eck. If he agrees, I'm in! Lynn
  23. Marriage requires give and take and conflict resolution calls for negotiation and compromise. I recommend you offer to trade your Vstar for a HD just as soon as he takes up wearing pink tights. Lynn
  24. Ditto! Great places to stay - large restrooms just across the parking lot - a country store and maybe even a short order restaurant - laundromat - and free Wifi. We will do it again this summer. Lynn
  25. Brenda and I had a nice ride planned to Key West but woke up to icing conditions at our home on Billy Goat Mtn this morning. We couldn't delay departure due to preaching appointments along the way so now we are traveling by CAGE instead. Bummer! Oh well. Just reminds me that I'm in sales, not management Lynn
