  1. Kenny, Thanks for keeping us updated. Brenda and I haven't been able to keep up with the news very well here in Paris. Keep your heads down till it's truly over. God bless Lynn
  2. There's only one post here on passenger options - and it's a good one BTW, just need a part name and number. On the other hand (quite literally) my '06 came to me with two of the bicycle bottle carriers mounted on the handlebars - one on each side, of course. Brenda and I have discovered that it is quite simple for me to lean forward while she reaches up and gets her drink. Ditto when she's ready to replace it. Doesn't bother me to do it for her and she's happy with it. Captain Kanagroo taught me, "Simple pictures are the best." (Anybody else here remember that book he read to us?) One other note with apologies for waxing philosophical (I AM a Baptist preacher, you know). Brenda and I were pleasantly blown away by the number of couples on motorcycles this summer. I think it wonderful that husbands and wifes are getting out and riding together! Funny thing is, the guy I bought my Venture from sold the bike because his wife wanted to ride with him all the time. He never had headsets for the intercom and even had the connectors taped shut. Hmmm. Wonder why? Ride safely guys Lynn (Leaving for another two weeks overseas - France and Greece)
  3. The Stebel horn was on my "To do" list so I'm glad to know you are satisfied with the alternative. AND A SPECIAL thanks to you for including the notes modifacations to the bracket. Keeps me from spending extra. Good on ya! Lynn
  4. Yup! There are still some good ol boys, including in police uniforms, in Alabama. Oh, would you care to guess where I was born and grew up? Lynn
  5. You'll have the time of your life. I know, because Brenda and I just made that loop (plus a coast to coast and the Blue Ridge parkway - 8,000 miles). With early starts and good rest stops, you won't have any trouble making the mileage. It will also take several months to get the smile off of your face! Lynn Oh yeah. For those who are also reading this thread, it was Eddie who first led me to this site. Blame him for my presence;)
  6. While it is not exclusively a touring magazine, Ride Texas Magazine always has several touring stories. It is a good mag - hard to beat - is not limited to Texas.
  7. Can't afford the driving lights yet - the XL Clearview is next on the wish list BUT you got my curiosity up. How would you wire the lights? I'm not asking for a diagram just a simple explanation. Thanks Lynn
  8. Will probably ride up on Thursday but my schedule is chockerblock full before and after so I'm not sure yet. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if it works out. BTW Brenda and I enoyed the ride across WI back in July - until we stopped at a rest area for lunch. The mosquitoes chased us out of the shade - had to eat our sandwiches in the hot sun. Mossies were too smart to chase us there. Lynn
  9. Same here in Arkansas. Paid the fine, went to school (boring day) but kept it off of my record AND INSURANCE. Check the laws in your state Lynn
  10. I think it's too late because you changed your mind - wasn't what you needed but for future reference and if someone searches for them and finds this thread - I ordered a replacement chrome tip for the rear of my front fender. They did me right. No problems. Lynn
  11. Except for the seams issue, something I knew was likely from another forum but thought Gerbing would take care of, I have been very happy with the performance of the jacket. The only other issue is that I also bought the heated gloves and it is simply not feasible to use them with the jacket on a single controller. The jacket and gloves are wired for that but you would have steam coming from the jacket before you get the gloves as warm as I want them (keep in mind I'm talking about a 19 degree Arkanasas day). Santa's going to have to bring me a dual controller! One thing for sure. I believe in heated gear! I just think Gerbing needs to take care of quality control. Lynn
  12. After riding in the snow in Montana in June, I noticed my Gerbing jacket had a split seam under one arm. I knew others had the same issue and Gerbing fixed the problem so I wasn't worried. Should have been. Though the jacket had relatively few hours of use, it was out of warranty and they refused to fix the problem. Please understand. If I had mistreated the jacket, I would feel differently. My observation led me to believe that the seam around the arms on the inside of the jacket is very poorly done. This is a quality control issue and Gerbing should take care of it. I had a seamstress friend take care of it. She also stitched the other arm to prevent it from coming apart as well. If you have a Gerbing jacket, check out those seams. The material has a tendancy to fray once the seams parts. If I had it to over again, I think I would be looking for something besides Gerbing. Lynn
  13. Before you buy, check out the cost of regular required service and maintenance. My friend loves his but I was shocked at what he is paying for servicing the bike.
  14. I've drug my feet for 24 hours hoping someone else would say what Goose said. He is correct. 1. When you switch to reserve, remember you have at least one gallon of fuel left. 2. You are probably not filling the tank completely. It takes time and effort but you can put, at least, another half-gallon in according to the mileage you indicated. One final commment: It is impossible to compare MPG and MPT (per tank) figures because riding styles and speeds vary so widely. THe difference between cruising the freeway at 80mph and puttering along sightseeing the back roads is HUGE. Good job Goose Lynn
  15. Oops! Typo! Meant to say Avatar. Wife's name is Brenda. Amazing how many times church members have said, "Ben and Lynda." I'm used to it. On Amateur Radio morse code I was forced to send my name as Len. Too guys were sending kisses! Ugh! Boy did this thread get hijacked Still Lynn
  16. does this in Eplorer but then you have to click on the tab and then close the tab when you're done. The benefit is that you do end up back where you started. It's just not that much of a shortcut over the "Back Arrow" Icon. As for the gender of the name "Lynn", my mother cannot remembrer how she shortened Leonard to Lynn. A quick glance at my Amatar should settle the issue. Even with the confusion, I prefer Lynn to Leonard or .. Pastor Raburn
  17. Exactly. If you are on page four and hit "New Posts" you don't go back to page four where you were. You back to page one AND you will get any new posts on that page that have been added since you started reading. That also rearranges the posts, i.e. which posts are on which pages. What I requested was a "Back to List" option like the one of Ebay. I stated in the original post that if this required significant effor to just forget it. That still stands. I know where the button is and hitting it 3 to 5 times is not that difficult. Thanks again Don - I do appreciate your hard work Lynn
  18. Don, When I sign in and click New Posts, I like to scroll through and pick the threads I wish to read. When I have read a thread, I click the "Back" icon in my browser to get back to the list to continue scrolling and reading. I know there are buttons at the bottom of the page for Previous Thread/Next Thread. How about a button for "Back to List?" The same thing is true when I post a reply to a thread except I have to back up through my post and the previous reading to get back to the list. Or am I missing something? The "Back to the List" button would help me and maybe someone else would find it useful as well. As long as it's not a major programming issue. Thanks for your hard work on my favorite site on the www:clap2: Lynn
  19. I would like to hide a two meter rig and be able to use it through the J&M headset. Just waiting for someone to do the "Buddy Rich" style cable for an additional radio. I don't want to give up the CB, just add 2 meters. Should be simple enough to stick a 1/4 verticle on the bike somewhere. Lynn, KE4DA, 5Z4DU, 5Z1HR, YJ8DA & VK4DEY
  20. Thank the Lord that your injuries were not more serious and we are happy that it led you to us. If you're down this way (not that far) give us a buzz and I'll buy you a cup of coffee. Lynn
  21. Hmmm. Wish I had known you guys were meeting at the hub today. I might have ridden up also. On the other hand, 101 degrees here and the A/C is working perfectly well . . maybe not. I have marked my calendar for the 2009 International Meeting and plan to be there instead of somewhere international. Lynn
  22. My wife and I just returned from an 8,000 mile ride so I feel somewhat qualified to speak about the Royal Star Venture. Power=plenty - even pulling a trailer Vibration=almost nil Comfort=the best in the market - yes, better than a Goldwing The floorboards let you move your feet around The seat is big enough to change position Noise=too much, but that power has to come from somewhere Price=much more reasonable than a Wing One caveat: If you ride an RSV, realize that your speed will be about 9% less than the speedometer indicates. Yamaha ought to be shot for this. Honda and Harley have them beat at speedo accuracy. Fortunately, a $115 speedo-healer can correct the problem (mine is on order - would love to send the bill for it to corporate Yamaha). Rant complete now. I feel better. If you take your wife for the test ride, you WILL buy the Venture. I know from experience. Lynn
  23. Thanks to a stray rock hidden in the grass on the shoulder of the road, my fairing is cracked (broken into but held on by the one bolt) below the radiator. From your experience would you recommend this epoxy to repair my fairing? Thanks for sharing the info! Lynn
  24. I also had a very positive experience with Big Kahuna rentals. Well, except for the rinky dink sort-of-a helmet they had for me to wear. Still, good guys to work with. Lynn
