  1. Sent you an email via the site. Lynn
  2. Magic Jack is great for travelers. I have a Little Rock number and my phone has rung in five different countries now. Wherever I have internet connection, I have free phone service to anyone back in the USA and they can call me regardless of what country I'm in. The voice message coming as an email attachment is fantastic. One warning: The hardware is easy to break and Magic Jack will only replace it once (according to a fellow missionary). I run mine on a short USB extension to try and protect it. BTW I also use Skype but prefer Magic Jack. Lynn
  3. It's been 43 every day for the last five in Outback Queensland (Longreach, Winton, Windorah, Charleville). Can't believe I have to leave Monday to return to 32 degrees in Arkansas. Annie, sorry we missed you in WA. Spent all of our time in Northam with only one day in Fremantle to see the new Marine Museum. Currently we are in a converted railway car in a WWII munitions dump where the bunkers are converted into cabins. Would you believe the place is named Possum Park? Located 20km out of Miles, Queensland. Lynn
  4. Brenda and I will be visiting a pastor friend & family and I will speak on Sunday at his church in Northam. We will be in Oz for a month this time - most of it on the Gold Coast - only a little less than a week in and around Perth. Maybe we can at least have a cuppa while we're there. Looks like the shipping has been worked out. If not, let me know. Since it's the bits and pieces rather than something large, we could probably fit it in the luggage. It's just that luggage allowances are not what they used to be. Lynn
  5. So are you getting just the PTT setup or the CB unit or both? Just wondering how much the stuff weighs. Lord willing, I'll be in Perth & Northam next month. Lynn
  6. No, don't ask him how much to add it! Offer him a thousand dollars less since it is missing. hehe Isn't it amazing how little Yamaha salesmen know about Ventures.
  7. I have the 780 - no mic input but I can tell you the ram mount is available and works great. Lynn
  8. I pray that the surgeries will go well and that the Lord will give you a speedy and complete recovery. Look forward to another ride together. Lynn Missionary Rider
  9. My wife followed me home from church one night and wouldn't rest until I added LEDs. See the post by Eddie Fulmer for the details of how it's done. Lynn In Romania
  10. Steve, Brenda and I rode from Somerset to Bowling Green a few weeks ago and all the toll booths have been removed from that section. Lynn in Barcelona, Spain
  11. See attached photo. For those who said it might be too big, there is a 12oz version available online - just not big enough for us. Have never noticed the extra weight on the handlebars. Lynn
  12. $6.95 in the bicycle section at Walmart. Mount it on the handlebar with a conduit clamp on the backside - saw off the top of the bracket if it's in the way. Voila! Works great for us. Lynn
  13. Brenda and I have experimented with various cups and drink containers with somewhat disappointing results. I hate it when the water in my bottle is as hot as I am. I want it cool. And, I don't like the "sippy cup" style of containers because I want to drink and drive. Losing sight of the road when I tilt my head back to drink is not the excitement I'm looking for. We have found a Thermos with a straw that will hold ice for 24 hours! The straw lets me drink without losing sight of the road. The flip-top is a one hand operation. I always finish the 18 oz in the Thermos before the ice is gone - have found ice still in the Thermos after 24 hours! It is a Thermos Intak Steel Hydro bottle and is available online or at Target for $21.95 Check out a picture on my Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2219859&id=639519006 Lynn http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2219859&id=639519006
  14. I've convinced Brenda to come with me to the Hub so there will be one more for dinner Wednesday night. That probably doesn't change your overall count since you've bumped it to 80 but thought I'd let you know. Lynn
  15. We were in Three Rivers Thursday till Sunday and are in Niles until Thursday (30th). We head to Somerset, Kentucky on Thursday, North Alabama (Winfield) on Friday, Arkansas on Sunday afternoon. We plan on being at the Hub on Wednesday and Thursday of the International Rally. I'll check the site for the location of the fuel filter. Hoping to make it home without major problems. Thanks for all the offers of advice and help. Lynn
  16. My 06 Midnite Venture quit on me this morning 5 miles out of Three Rivers, Michigan, and left me sitting on the side of the road for 20 minutes before it would start again. The same thing happened 10 days ago in Maryland. The symptoms: Cruising in 4th gear or so, the engine acts like it is starving for fuel (or that the kill switch has been hit - it wasn't) Coast to a stop, engine won't start. Yes I tried the kill switch, checked the pitcock - fuel flows from tank. No start. Yes, I hear the fuel pump when I turn the key. I have normal dash lights indicated. There's no smell of flooded engine. No leaks, no smoke, but no start. 20 minutes later (both times) the engine starts and runs normally. Since the incident in Maryland, I have put over a thousand miles on the bike (MD, VA, WV, OH, IN and now MI). The only weird thing today when it finally started was that I pulled the choke on and then off while starting and it suddenly fired up. When it did, it was more like an electrical connection being made than the choke clearing. There was no coughing and sputtering. No smoke, no smell. Engine ran fine to the motel in Niles where we are staying. Any ideas or suggestions before we hit the road Thursday heading South? Thanks for mulling it over. Lynn
  17. Glad all it did was rearrange furniture on the front porch. I'll have to give the kids a call and see how they fared. Lynn
  18. Thanks, Steve, for offering the coffee and the oil change. It was great to spend time with you guys and worth the ride in the rain to get there. Look forward to the next time! Lynn P.S. Still wish you guys could make it to the Hub for the International Rally
  19. Brenda and I spent the night in Asheville Tuesday night after a great ride of the Cherahala Skyway and the south end of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We're at Fort Bragg now with our son. Hope you guys have a good weekend. Lynn
  20. I wired the relay according to Freebird's diagram. Power from the battery to the relay, relay powered by the cig. lighter positive lead, switch to ground, lights on the proper # etc. Again, it all works fine until I start the engine. Then I have to turn it off and back on again. Works fine from that point on - until the next time I hit the starter button. Thanks for mulling it over Lynn
  21. For reference purposes, my rev limiter kicks in at 63 HONEST mph (Speedhealer) in 2nd gear.
  22. Okay, so I ran the wire under the tank, wired in the relay etc. etc. Now when the key comes on, the driving lights are on. When I start the engine, the lights go out momentarily (I THINK that is by design), the headlight comes back immediately but the driving lights do not. There's still power to the relay. Why doesn't it switch the driving lights back on? I have to turn OFF the driving lights and turn them back on for them to work. Am I the only one with this issue? Any ideas why this happens? Lynn
  23. Perhaps they will change the geometry if they EVER decide to upgrade the design. And add EFI, and a CD player, and reverse. Lynn
  24. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Brenda and I did the Dragon and Deal's Gap last year and plan on riding the Cherohala Skyway in July. Will also re-ride the southern end of the Blueridge Parkway, Lord willing. Lynn
  25. The Diamond R Links raise the rear of the bike slightly, taming the bike in the parking lot. BTW, the links are actually shorter in length than the stock links but the result is that the rear of the bike is lifted. Worth every penny. Lynn
