As mentioned, if you get the right LED bulbs they are brighter than incandescent. The load resistors are not an issue since you only use them for the turn signals. If you think about it, how much time does the turn signal spend actually lit up. First the signals are only used when you are turning or changing lanes, and even when they are on they are are really only lit for half of the time. Your electrical system can deal with the extra/normal current draw for those short times while signaling and the bulb is lit. But you are still getting the full benefit of the reduced amp draw all of the time on the running light part of the LED bulb.

It is my place in life I guess. I put out this warning every spring and fall cuz the city folk have no clue about deer. Not that there is anyone that has deer really figured out. Deer are almost as unpredictable as a woman..........

Stator replacement
Flyinfool replied to Gearhead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Is it possible that you knocked a ground loos from the passenger wires. There should be nothing to make noise with the engine not running. -
Yup And with the perpetual election cycle we have here in WI its all of the campaign calls on top of the telemarketers and scammers. NON of which are required to honor the "Do not call" lists. They are even calling my cell phone now, so I have to pay for the call. If one should be so foolish to call when I am just sitting there bored, then it is a challenge to see how long I can keep them on the line. At least then they are not scamming someone else that might actually fall for it.

Well folks it is time for the spring silly season with deer running all over at all times of the day. This is the time of year where the does will be giving birth to there new fawns. Just before they give birth, they will drive last years fawns out of her territory (this is how they spread the gene pool). So you will have deer wandering around looking for a new place to live. If that young deer grew up in an area that had very little or no vehicle traffic, then mom never taught them how to cross the street. And if mom is right behind them looking to kick some tail they may be running like crazy. So keep an extra eye out for deer, at ALL times of the day, for the next month till things calm down some. this time of year is not as bad as during the rut in fall, but it still has a significant increase of deer activity.

Valve Shims
Flyinfool replied to icebrrg3rd's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thats OK. I managed to remember all by myself....... It will be a while on the grinder, I'm still working on talking them into selling it to me, and then it will take a while to disassemble it, get it home, reassemble it, and set it up. -
That is one of the great things about LEDs. they do not warm up and cool down like an incandescent bulb. If the LED is flashing slow enough for you to tell that it is flashing, then it is reaching full brightness.

Valve Shims
Flyinfool replied to icebrrg3rd's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have a 282 and a 288, and then drop down to 265 and smaller -
It might be safer/easier to just use a LM7805 regulator or a LM317T adjustable regulator. Odds are you are pulling less than 1 amp. The problem with using just a resistor is that you may get weird results as the bike voltage changes, or the device current draw changes.

replacing resistor
Flyinfool replied to calgaryrider's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Since the resistor is being used to limit the current, it will always be safe to use a larger value. The worst that could happen from the larger value is that not enough current will get thru and the red warning light will come on. If the resistor value is to small it will let to much current thru and cook the computer. -
Valve Shims
Flyinfool replied to icebrrg3rd's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I am working on getting a surface grinder to add to my basement shop. Then I can have any thickness shim I want. I have been told that I will always need a thinner shim than what was there. Unfortunately that will not help you now. Give me a call tonight to remind me to dig out and check the shims that I have. -
If you are trading in a bike the dealer will probably remove the bell anyhow.

Yes, and your point is????????? Shouldn't you be exercising or something...........

I also have had a Slipstream on mine for a little over a year now. It seems to be holding up fine so far. If I could have talked them into making one for a 1st gen, I would have spent the money on a F4. Hmmmm..... Maybe it is time to rattle the cage again. The more people that ask for one the more likely he is to make one. I still have my old OEM shield that I could send him as a pattern.

I wonder if the ride on acts a little like Dyna Beads and sloshes around to do some balancing?
-
Yes everything would have to be properly adjusted that holds true for all of the trailers that I pull with my truck also. The pros and cons of trailer brakes has been discussed many times with the only conclusion being that some people love them and some hate them. That is why the companies that make the heavier trailers have brakes as an option. I have never heard of trailer braking causing the tow vehicle to do a back flip. The physics of the situation say that that is absolutely not possible. But back to the regularly scheduled thread..... I do not wish to debate the pros and cons of brakes again in this thread.

They can be but not all shops have the right adapter to put them on a machine. The station that I go to can only do it because I made them an adapter to put the little tires on their balancer. The old bubble type balancer should still work.

Good info. I'm going to take this info with me just in case I should ever need a set of bearings on the road. Hmmmm.... I wonder if it is realistic to polish up the seal surface on the axle to help keep the seals from wearing out to fast. I will be deciding for sure after my trip to Oberlin, but I am thinking of just making up a new axle with new hubs to use standard SAE size bearings that are available anywhere. At the same time I may add electric brakes to the trailer. There is a place in IL that I found with really good prices on the parts needed. R&P Carriage. Good excuse for another road trip.

HID headlight installed
Flyinfool replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That is why I went with the automatic version. I'm old and suffer from CRS syndrome. At least with the switch in there if you do forget and the light goes out while cranking, You wont have to shut the engine off and restart, you can just flip the switch to off and back on to relight the HID. But the blinky light will not tell you that the light went out, just whether the switch is in the on or off position. -
Welcome back. Were you gone??????

I believe the donate button is at the top right of the screen....... I guess it could have been worse, you could have been the padding between them.

Anyone familiar with International Auto Group in Milwaukee?
Flyinfool replied to Midrsv's topic in Watering Hole
All I can tell you is that they have been around a long time and I have not heard any horror stories about them. -
1. It depends on how many and what wattage you have. If the fuse blew just because of the number of lights and the power they are pulling then you need a relay. 2. Depends on if you want it powered all the time or just with the ignition on. 3. YES 4. Relays are needed any time you are turning any significant power on or off. I will generally use a relay if I an getting over 3 amps that I want switched. 5. The most common type you will need is the standard 30-40 amp automotive relay from any auto parts store. Generally any time you need to add a relay you also need to add a fused lead to get power to the relay.
