For the $300 I would rent one if in doubt. Then IF something happens..... the trailer rental shop is on the hook for the bike not you.

OOPS Broken Schrader Valve on Fork
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to kj5ix's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If it is just a shrader valve you can pick one up at almost any plumbing/gas fitting wholesale house. I know we use them all the time for testing piping systems. -
My son made it to Medicine Hat but was delayed by flooding and the Trans Canada Highway being turned into the Trans Canada River. He has taken a bus out of the disaster area and is continuing from Regina eastward.
-
But I think it would be a good hurt! I rode a kaw concourse before I got my Venture. With 1000 cc the bike was awesome..... 1400 would just be wild.

My son is about 350 miles into his ride across Canada. He is in Armstrong BC and feeling good. The Coquihalla Highway and the connector from Meritt to Kelowna BC have been by far the worst so far. He is now entering the Rocky Mountains and looking forward to going down hill towards the Alberta boarder. He is a day or 2 behind his planned schedule but feeling confident he will be able to make up for lost time on flatter ground ahead. feel free to follow him @ brainstormride.org and http://biac-aclc.ca/en/ (brainstormride updates)

Owen, it is a small world. I have an article from the Victoria Colonist in my home town, for my father and his 4 brothers April 12, 1944: E.R.A Albert Cownden P.O. Arthur Cownden (my dad) P.O. Walter Cownden FLT. SGT. Vincent Cownden (Shot down over Holland) SGT Maurice Cownden A small line divides our countries on the map but we are very close to brothers. Thanks to all of those who serve our countries every day.

This country is small in many ways.... huge to a young man on a bicycle!

On June 1st 2010 my 23 yr old son, Brad, is starting his long planned bicycle ride across Canada. His plan is to take up to 12 weeks and ride across the country to help raise funds and awareness for the Brain Injury Association of Canada and their related support societies . His ride will take him close to 4,700 miles from the west coast to the east coast. So if you are riding to or from the Kootneys and happen to see a young man all alone on the highway pedaling his bicycle east.... please ..... stop and say hello to Brad. thanks info on his ride: http://www.brainstormride.org or send me a message.

I tried to buy the Elite III for my '86. The rear tire was date code of 2005 and the wholesaler that supplies our area said that ALL of his stock is coded the same date. Dunlop told me that every tire should be removed from use between 6 and 7 years from date code. I have Metzlers on and I am loving them after 400 Kms.

that is cool..... what about the weather bars under so many of the signatures?

Caring less about how I look, more if I survive...
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to FutureVentures's topic in Watering Hole
But, I'm still an avid snowboarder so, I hope I'm growing up, not old! Growing up is a good thing as you get older.... growing out is not. Good on you for the new jacket it looks good......... much better than the viz vest! I got rid of my old black joe rocket and went for a newer M2R with the high viz piping at least..... But there is no way in the world you will get me to wear anything but a full face helmet...... I still miss Dale Earnhardt who would likely still be with us if he had worn one. -
That is the helmet I wear now. It fits just awesome and it feels great. My complaint is I find it very noisy when I am on my small bike with no windshield or when I have my short screen on my Venture. just my

Driveshaft maint
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to Pappa Bear's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I just did mine.... first time I had ever done more than change the plugs and oil on my '86. I had the back wheel off for bearings and brakes. The 4 cap nuts come off and then you will likely find that there is a silicon seal on the square flange. Pull straight back about 1.5 inches and it will drop free. When putting it back in I took a flashlight and looked up the tube to get the idea of where the universal was positioned and it took me 2 tries to get the splines lined up and slipped in. I put some silver silicon on the flange and some molly slip grease in the splines. I did it you can do it too !- 11 replies

Need help with part number
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to ediddy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That is awesome Squidley was able to come up with that so fast! I use yamahamotorsports.com alot and they have the exploded view of the bike sections with all the part numbers listed.... kinda like the old micro-fiesh pictures. I find it great for seeing how things come apart and go together as well. -
Congrats ! I rode the 2010 Ultra Classic on the weekend at the local dealer spring ride..... I could get into that..... my wife ..... Don't think she is going to let me part with that kinda cash while kids are still home...... ..... dreaming !

The ride for dad is the next weekend..... it would be an awesome way to see a good chunck of the lower island ! http://www.motorcycleridefordad.org/vis/about-us

The MV Coho ( Blackball Ferry http://cohoferry.com/main/ ) is a nice ride on a good day... I often go to Port Angeles and ride there it is just awesome. Prepare your self you need to tie your bike to the ferry so it does not fall over as the ferry rolls on the waves. The Anacortes ferry ( http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Ferries/Schedule/ScheduleDetail.aspx?tripdate=20100508&departingterm=1&arrivingterm=19&roundtrip=true ) I have never taken but thought we may take it this summer as I think it will be a fantastic sight to see. Give me a shout when in Victoria !

I believe my last air filter was $42.00 from them. does anyone have the part number for the K&N filter my local deal could not find a listing for it- 10 replies

took mine apart 2 weeks ago Lots and lots of cleaning to do... get all that crappy old grease off of the spline... every part cleaned.... never got into the "zerts" for greasing. Changed the wheel bearings new rubber... front and rear..... its only money. Got the molly grease from a local auto parts wholesaler...... brand name of "molly slip " a little goes a long way ! Changed rear brake pads... to find that the calipers frozen..... consider that you will be checking and servicing everything before you are done

What is the date code on the tire.... the only E3 tires I could get locally had a date of 13 05. Dunlop said to remove from service after 6 to 7 years of date code no matter the wear.
-
According to Dunlop the E3 is even better on wet roads due to the new tread pattern. I ordered E3s for my bike but when I got them they were date coded 5 years old. The retailer checked and ALL the the tires the supplier had were dated '05. Dunlop says all motorcycle tires should be removed from service between 6 and 7 years from date code. I ended up with Metzlers and the tread pattern is very close to the E3.
