  1. Would this be OK to sync the carbs? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300529194899&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT Where can I get the Yamaha engine tach, part #YU-08036-A, 90890-03113 Thanks, Melvin
  2. So we've all (well, many of us) have been whining about Yamaha not upgrading the RSV since 1999. Question that comes to my mind is .... has the Wing really changed much since it's current design came out in 2001? .... not really. So if Honda isn't changing, why should Yamaha? Having said that, now that the 2012 Wing is out, I bet there's something really good in store for us in a new, redesigned Venture, probably to be introduced next year.
  3. This is an interesting video..........its Yamaha about snowmobile oil filters and the bad pleated competition filters. Makes ya wonder! Maybe the motorcycle division should talk to the snowmobile division? Keith [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3s1wuweZJzw]www.youtube.com/watch?v=3s1wuweZJzw[/ame]
  4. I'll try to make this short. I'm the new President of our local STAR Touring and Riding Chapter (Chapter 186 Contra Costa Ca). The closest Yamaha dealer is about 40 miles away in another county. There is a Honda/Suzuki dealer in the middle of the county that has asked Yamaha for a dealership but has been denied because Yamaha will only allow new dealers to be a "stand alone" dealership. OK, to the point. I'm starting a mail/email campaign to encourage Yamaha to grant this Honda/Suzuki dealer a Yamaha dealership. Our Chapter is all for writing Yamaha to put pressure on them to allow this shop a dealership. Because the sport bike market is so large I was wondering if there is a national riding organization like STAR Touring And Riding for sport bikes. If so I'd really appreciate any information so I can contact the local chapter to enlist their support. Thanks.
  5. Here's your chance to win a new Yamaha. http://www.justsayyessweepstakes.com/ Best Regards,
  6. Does anyone know why all UK ventures are sold withont the neat hinge sticker so well photographed on the fronmt of the Clymer manual? I know you can order them for a silly price via Yamaha, just wondered if anyone has run there own up.
  7. Are there any preferences on brands or where they come from? I was thinking of ordering seals from All Balls Racing. They appear to be superior seals. I think fork bushings are going to have to come from Yamaha. I have not found an aftermarket for them yet. Any input will be appreciated.
  8. ONE: did Yamaha make a tool to fit the stator cover screw plug or am I missing a tool from the original kit? You'd think they could have put it on the end of one of the big box end wrenches. Anyways, this week I finally carved a piece of steel to fit that stupid curved slotted groove. (pics 1, 2) TWO: what is that hole for on the bottom of the rear crankcase cover? Looks to me like Yamaha guessed wrong where the shifter shaft would come through. (pic 3) Just wondering...is all.
  9. Two Ventures riding south on Hwy 27 in Broward county, with a few Harleys a Victory and a Yamaha Spider, about 10 am Yesterday. One Blue and one Grey/Beige ( about 8 bikes total )
  10. Just bought a 2009 Yamaha Royal Star. JYAVP04E39A015375 Has 3,000 miles on it. Need to know what it is exactly like what generation, what specific model, If when looking for parts I see "XVC1300", or "XVZ1300", is it a "Star" Royal venture, or Yamaha Royal venture, or what?? Sorry to sound so dumb but I fell in love RoyalStar Venture on bill of sale. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc29b3127ccefc0560aa75ce00000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/
  11. A friend is looking to upgrade from vulcan classic to cruiser so he can do long distance riding. Has concern about cornering and agility vs. Venture. Found 2000 Yamaha RS Boulevard. Any comments or recommendations? He is looking to stay under $6,000 purchase price.
  12. Just wondering what everyone uses, if anything when you're going on a trip. Do you use the economy liners made by Glad or Hefty, whatever you might have available (gym bags, duffles, etc) that fits in the saddle bags or have you gone out and purchased the Yamaha liners that are suppose to go in there? Just kind of wondering what everyones thought were on the subject. What you've tried, what works, what doesn't.
  13. In my last post "The future of the Venture" It appears the Venture is on the way out. Let's assume this is true. What bike or bikes would make your shortlist? I'm a little P/O at Yamaha right now so I'm sure it will not be another Yamaha for me...
  14. Just heard from a friend that Meridian Yamaha, Meridian Mississippi, is closing their doors and going out of business. They are liquidating their stock. Those of you in the area have until 19 January to see what bargains you can find.
  15. I bought my own xmas gift today. Had to replace that rear shock because it was getting a bit sloppie going into the corners. After doing my research within most of you are staying away from the yamaha product and going with the company "Shock". I called 1-818-701-1010 and talked with Tom. He provided me the VentureRider 10% discount and said it should be about 2-3 weeks at a cost of $ 620.00. Thanks for the info.
  16. today at 4:00pm i have a meeting with my lawyer to talk about an offer of possible settlement of a long 3 year battle of workers comp case. im not sure what the $ offer is. but i had 2 torn minicus repairs a back injury that they gave me over 7 injections in ans it,s still not perfect. but healed fair. as for the knee. it will need a replacement in the future. as bone is now on bone.. im hopeing. to get enough to pay off the 5 grand on my car. maybe enough to get another bike? so i can work on the venture some more. i hate to say with these first gens a back up bike never hurts. there too big for litttle jaunts around town. so was thinking if all goes well today and i find out if we get the settlement by spring. a nice yamaha 650cc or 1100. yamaha vstar would be a nice. run around bike. so wish this oldgoat some luck. as this year has realy sucked for me.
  17. I was having problems with my audio system, 2008 venture, responding to the commands that I would punch in on the control located on the handle bars. It got progressively worst until one day it went totally out. The bike is under warranty so I took it to the Yamaha dealer where I purchased it. It should be noted that I found that people working on the audio system are really not educated on how it works and how to troubleshoot the system. Its change black boxes so to speak. So they tried the new control and that did not work. So they were on the phone with Yamaha techs for hours talking about what to do next. They took the front fairing off and found that the wires going to fuel tank for the intercom (rider) were all cut up. The wires had been routed wrong and got into the steering area and slowly were being smashed and cut to pieces by steering the bike. They ordered a new harness for the headset and installed same. The problem was still NOT repaired. Again on the phone with Yamaha techs and yamaha sent in a new amp that is located under the front fairing. That took care of the problem. The system now works great and responds immediately to the commands. This whole event took about two months to get worked out driving back and forth. In short everyone should remove their front fairing and take tie ties and really look at how their wiring is being run to prevent this from happening. I did write a letter to Yamaha about the routing of the wiring under the fairing and what had happen. I believe that the wires being cut on the headset cord shorted out the AMP blowing same. It only took two months and about 400 miles of riding back and forth waiting for parts and etc. I would also like to note that there are TWO fuses in the audio system. One fuse is in the battery compartment and the other is behind the RIGHT UNDER COVER. So if your having audio problems be sure to check both fuses. I hope that this will help someone. Please check all the wires running under the front fairing. It could prevent you from having the same problem. Yamaha techs also advised that the connections on the amp, which are many work loose so be sure to check them as well. Good Luck, DanC
  18. Ok if you have a RSTD or a venture and have put Yamaha passing lights on your bike do you run them all the time.
  19. This was aimed at the automotive industry but would be an interesting read for Yamaha : http://www.autoobserver.com/2010/11/academic-researchers-conclude-product-matters---a-lot.html
  20. Well. Visiting the sunshine state and was looking for the best Yamaha shop in the Orlando FL area. Since the HD guys like to strut their t-shirts from all over the place, even places they have not been, I thought I would hunt down the best big Yamaha shop so I could try to bring back a Yamaha t-shirt from my visit. Too bad, I don't have my RSV with me. Just too big to pack in the suit case and get on the plane. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and accepted. Just don't want to get the HD shirt. Just not right. Just visiting, Thanks
  21. Alright folks, I have a question for you. I don't understand what the big deal is with Yamaha offering us MORE options for fulfilling our audio desires. So many of you pee and moan about the bike being so 'behind the times' because it has a cassette deck. I do realize that some also indicate they are 'behind the times' due to lack of fuel injection and gauges - but I'd like to focus on the cassette deck for now since so many get fired up over it (I'd like to understand). The way I see it, is Yamaha is giving us MORE options. They give us the AM/FM radio, a cassette deck, an optional CD CHANGER (standard on 09 and up), integrated into the audio system as well as an Aux plug for whatever audio we want to plug into. So, if you don't like the cassette deck, keep the little door closed and don't use it, or pull it out and put something else in like a storage compartment or gauges. Why all of the complaining? I just don't get it. Just like the little, almost useless, DC connector under the seat that many of us snip off and put something else useful on there. Just because I choose NOT to use it, doesn't mean I'm going to B and Moan to Yamaha because they put it there. I really don't understand all the hub-ub about the cassette deck, maybe someone can enlighten me. By the way, I happen to use mine. I have a handful of cassettes that I recorded some music on for when I don't feel like hooking up my MP3 player - or when I don't want to deal with batteries going dead or whatever. My cassette deck never skips.
  22. Can someone tell me how hard it is to replace the rear rotors on a 93 VR? I do have the repair manual. Also, where can I get replacement rotors other than from Yamaha? Can you trust used ones on ebay?
  23. It may have taken Yamaha to get it right, but they were not the first.
  24. A big THANK YOU to raceman62race for providing this PDF document for the Yamaha Passing Lamp installation. These are the original instructions from Yamaha that many say do not always come with the lamps. Most folks here would recommend that you supplement these instructions by adding a relay. Adding a relay will prevent the extra load of the lights from passing through your ignition switch and also isolates the passing lamps from your normal light circuit which would prevent your losing your headlight in the event of a short circuit within the passing lamps. Here is a simple diagram on wiring a relay for the lamps.
