  1. Hi Guys, first I should introduce myself; my name is Steffen Hanne and I live in Germany near Berlin. My bike is a RSV Model 1999, newly bought in 2001. A friend of mine has also a Royal Star Venture with the whining clutch basket. I found the thread with the Yamaha Technical Service Bulletin M2002013 and the text posted by Rick Butler (thanks for that). The problem is, that the Yamaha Dealer and also Yamaha Germany didnt know anything about their own TSB (or didnt want to know :-( ) My question is, if anyone here is able to send me the TSB in the original (PDF-Scan) via PM? That would be great!! Greetings from Germany
  2. The engineers must know a good thing when they see (hear) it: http://www.harley-davidsonforums.com/forums/general-motorcycle-related/13713-fifth-gear-whine.html
  3. 10471.1 Found this on another site. Yamaha Motor cuts jobs, closes plants Japanese motorcycle maker Yamaha Motor announced Friday plans to close seven factories globally with the loss of 1,000 jobs, in an effort to bounce back from a 2.4-billion-dollar annual loss. Yamaha, the world's second biggest motorcycle manufacturer after Honda, said it would cut 200 jobs overseas, on top of the 800 in Japan announced last week. The streamlining is also in addition to a 10-percent reduction in the company's global workforce of 17,000 already underway, a Yamaha spokesman said. The group will shut five of its 12 domestic factories by 2012, all in Shizuoka prefecture, central Japan, now producing parts for motorcycles, marine products and buggies. Overseas, Yamaha will close a motorcycling factory in Italy and a marine products plant in the US state of Florida. "The company is expanding the scope of three structural reforms -- reorganising the manufacturing layout, the workforce and reducing costs -- beyond the level envisioned in the previous announcement," Yamaha said. Yamaha said it suffered a net loss of 216.1 billion yen (2.4 billion dollars) for the year to December, against a year-earlier profit of 1.8 billion yen. Revenue dropped 28.1 percent to 1.15 trillion yen in 2009 as the economic slump dented sales of motorcycles and marine products both at home and overseas, Yamaha said. For 2010, the company expects to break even on a net basis with solid demand in Asia projected to lift revenue by 8.4 percent to 1.25 trillion yen. But "demand in Europe and the United States is not expected to recover for some time," it said. "Thus, sales conditions surrounding the Yamaha Motor Group are expected to remain harsh," it said.
  4. The trailer is a Fibro Concept XL3 Trailer made in Canada and all you know its a 2001 It has 115,000 kms for the price of $8500.00 CDN its a Bargoon Plenty of Yamaha Chrome accessories , I have tried the FJR1300, Honda Goldwing My knees are shot and the Venture was the most comfortable ride
  5. Can anyone here comment on the Yamaha "On Tour" jacket and or pants? I'd like to know what temperature range they will be effective in and any general comments about them. I have not been able to locate them at any local dealers to take a look at them in person.
  6. Hey Check this place out for OEM Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki discount parts. I just compared prices with my local Yamaripoff store and I saved over 50%. I was using Yamaha Sports Plaza out of Oregon but they were out of a part I needed so I went looking. I ordered 5 OEM Yamaha parts and this place beat Sports Plaza on every item. Also Yamaha Sports Plaza shipping was $14.95 and this place was $10 another saving. http://www.motosportwarehouse.com/?gclid=CL3rm-OF5KACFUmU7Qod3h3HJw :thumbsup2:
  7. Will it hurt anything to take the carb heater fuses out? Something is draining my new (6 months old) battery. A friend who had a YAMAHA 1100 said his was doing the same thing and he traced it to the carb heaters. He took the fuses out and all was well afterwards.
  8. Took my bike to Tallahassee Powersports for the 48,000 mile service. Before taking bike to dealer I read the post about cracked tabs in the fairing that hold the windshield on. I have two cracked tabs. I printed the post on here about the cracked tabs and took it with me to the dealer. Dealer just called and said yamaha is going to replace my fairing under warranty but don't know how long it will take to get fairing as it is on back order. Even though it is backordered I am happy. I just knew they were going to call and tell me yamaha wouldn't replace the fairing. I have read many times where dealers and yamaha wouldn't replace items under warranty but I have to say, yamaha has always been good to me. My warranty expires in september so I better get everything I need before then.
  9. I purchased 2 yamaha venture jackets. One fits fine the other is too small for my wife.It is an x-small jacket. Wife thinks it would be a size 8 for women. It is a dark brown with light brown strips on the sleeves. Its a wind breaker type jacket. It is a old jacket but in good shape. It has venture on the front of the jacket and a yamaha tag inside. If anyone is interested let me know. Pay the shipping and it is yours. I will try to send a pic if i SORRY ITS GONE ALREADY
  10. Hey All, Yesturday my youngest son Matt-age 24, came over for a Father-Son Day, we try to do this at least once a month. Matt is looking for a buddy pack deal on two four wheelers and a Yamaha 650. After Breakfeast we went 15 miles west to the next town, a Yamaha Dealer (our town only has a Harley Dealer), three cars pulled in at same time. But, I forgot they were closed on Wed. So we went 20 miles further west to the next town's Yamaha Dealer, people were getting back in their cars and other cars pulling in, but doors locked and sign said "Now Closed on Tue. & Wed". Didn't matter, we was having fun talking and seeing sights. So we headed east 75 miles across state to see my oldest son, Jimmy. Afterwards went to another Yamaha Dealer, you guessed it CLOSED, and again cars in parking lot and people looking in windows. On the way home stopped by the Harley-Davidson Dealer to look around, and Yes they were Open! Matt really liked the Fatboy. I am not sure how many Four Wheelers, Bikes, and Part Sales these Yamaha Dealers Lost by being Closed, but COME ON-WAKE UP!!!! Matt and I still had a Great Time hanging out together, but now I know why there are so many Harley Davidson's on the road. Later-James

  12. I am looking at a Yamaha Head set on e-bay. Package shows it is a Yamaha Product. The seller says it is a 6 pin din connector. I have a 2006 RSV and the info I have says my connecting receptical is a 5 pin. Anyone know if this will item will work on my bike? Thanks in advance for any info
  13. I know there were some earlier posts on this subject, but here is my story. I bought a 2007 RSV from Dreyer Honda in Indianapolis. I'm the 2nd owner, it was sold new in Illinois. For those of you who don't know, Dreyer has a Yamaha dealership right next door to the Honda store. I asked the service guys at Dreyer Yamaha to transfer the warranty and they said it was something they would take care of if/when it came in for service, otherwise it was not necessary. The handbook says it should be transferred. I'm thinking "what if I'm in Ohio or Kentucky or some foreign land (Canada?) and need warranty work?". I want to be recognized as the owner and warranty holder. So-o-o I went to Westfield Yamaha, they told me it HAS to be transferred by the original selling dealership. IN ILLINOIS! No ifs, ands, or buts. Just flat refused to have anything to do with it. I emailed the dealer in Illinois, they responded that they would be glad to help, but would have to physically inspect the bike. Well-l-l let me tell ya- I called Yamaha Motors in Katella, CA. The customer service rep. (Leona) there was GREAT! She called Indy Cycle & Ski while keeping me on the line. Before Leona and I finished talking I had a call come in from Indy Cycle & Ski from their business manager James White. I took a ride to their dealership and when I got there I was greeted by James. He provided me with a temporary warranty, told me I would be getting a warranty card from Yamaha, and then took me around and introduced me to the service mgr. and the parts mgr. and showed me around the dealership. Then I spent some time on the showroom floor just browsing. Bear in mind that this was my first ever visit to this dealer. When I need service, tires, parts, whatever, guess where I am going first? All this just to confirm what most of us already know. There are dealers out there that just don't give a damn, but if you are lucky you may find one that gives you old fashioned "we value you as a customer" service. Mel:Venture:

Ok, I have my asbestos britches on, so don't hold back... I love my RSV. It is the best scooter I have ever owned. But sometimes I want to run down to the store or some other errand, and I don't want to feel like I need to launch the Queen Mary II. I want to jump on a smaller bike and do what I need to do. I had a '97 vmax that was fine for this purpose but it was after all a vmax and I just could not keep myself from running it pretty hard. No self control I guess. I really like sport touring bikes. The BMW 1200, Honda ST, Yamaha FJR etc., but they too are more bike than I want. I no longer want or need the crotch rocket style bikes either. This is all leading up to your thoughts on the newly USA released Honda NT700V. I love this bike. I had the chance to sit on one today and I think I am sold. It has been very popular across the pond for several years. It is 300lbs + lighter than the RSV. It is a FI 700cc vtwin. I like the ergonomics/sitting position. It is still a little tall for me but I think I could live with it. I don't really see anything from Yamaha that is close to it. What do you all think of it???
  15. just wanted to say that yamaha of camp hill, pa., did me right yesterday....i've decided to try the "I" basket and went to their dealership to discuss it....initially, he said he didn't know anything about it but when i showed him posts on this web site about the "whine"..he called yamaha , they told him it was a legit complaint ....so the part is ordered , no questions asked.....
  16. Has anyone installed a CD-625 cd changer? If I use a c-bus cable will it operate through my stock Yamaha control? Thanks Mike
  17. I was curious to see the variety of first bikes was, and got a pretty diverse bunch of responses. A few of you listed other bikes you've had, so this seems like a good time to re-visit this question, and list the bikes you've had, and which ones hold a special place in your heart. Lets start at the beginning: 2 1/2 horse mini-bike 3 1/2 horse mini-bike Honda Trail 50 Yamaha MX80 Honda XL350 (first street-legal bike) Honda XL500 Yamaha XT500 (stripped for off road use only) Honda CB750F (79, bike was stolen from me) Honda CB750F (80) Kawasaki KZ1000 MK2 Honda XR600 (dirt bike) Honda CB700sc Suzuki GSX 600 Yamaha XVZ 1300 (87 standard) Honda CB900 custom I'd have to say the second CB750F was my favorite bike. It was fast for the time, handled well, again, for the time, and it was just that time of my life that I was truly in love with my bike (early twenties). Started out in Ohio, moved down to the Florida Keys and rode it year 'round. I was so broke I rode the rear tire until it went flat on US1 just south of Miami.... Ruined the aluminum casings when Cardsound road was flooded, and I ran about 4 miles through 4" of saltwater. Saltwater, heat and aluminum don't mix well. I used and abused that bike, but I did love her......sigh...... The CB700sc is a great bike, and I've owned it since '98, but since I've got the Venture, I don't ride it much anymore. The Suzi 600 and the Honda 900 don't really count. They're both in need of a little TLC and probably won't even be roadworthy until next year. That's a list of my two wheeled relationships, some true loves, and some love-hate relationships, but all memorable. Maybe next time I'll list my favorite cages. Thanks for your attention.
  18. For anyone interested in test riding a new Yamaha, here's the Demo Days schedule for this year: http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/mcy/demo.aspx It's because of free rides at demo days that my wife and I bought our RSV. Just like a drug dealer: give a taste for free and they'll come back with money! Only more healthy, of course. Maybe we can convert a few more 1st gen folks.
  19. Received an email about Yamaha and Daytona. Apparently they haven't given up on racing yet. http://www.yamaha-motor.com/emailview.asp?p=337 First time I've ever received anything like this.....
  20. Well the local multi-brand bike dealer here had their big night show for Yamaha. Had a few Yamaha factory reps on hand and FREE HOT DOGS! The hot dogs turned out to be the highlight of the night. LOL! Just sayin'. Not a RSV in sight........a T-D, a row of V-Stars, plenty of crotch rockets and a 2010 V-Max. So I finally got a rep cornered and posed the question........Will there be a RSV in 2011? Got a shrug. He had no idea. But he did say "if" there was we could expect a choice of two colors. Like I expected more? But on the bright side........I got to park my butt on the V-Max. I likey! Felt like a mini-bike after the '84. Would have been nice to fire it up and go for a spin but that wasn't going to happen. And back in the used row they had a '89 Venture with 40,000 on it for $4,998.00. Burgundy with ghost flames. After a good look it looked like the new paint was there for a reason. But the hot dogs were good. Free. Always good. So much for the big event.
  21. I have heard that BMW is discontinuing the current LT model, and it may be a few years for the next version with the new 6 cylinder engine. Honda has stopped production of the Goldwing in the US, and there are rumors that when touring bike production resumes back in Japan it may not be with the Goldwing. And of course we all know the current 2010 Yamaha RSV stopped production back in 09 so as to avoid having to meet the new 2010 EPA regs, and there seems to be no new model full dress Yamaha in the works yet. So for 2011 people looking at buying a new full dress touring bike will be choosing from HD, Victory or Kawasaki, or looking for unsold inventory from the other three. If anyone has any concrete info on what is or isn't happening, I'd love to hear it.
  22. I need the schematics or a book on the Radio in my bike as it dona work thanks The Yamaha supplements dealers service would be great!! Thanks Mike R..
  23. A week or so ago I was cruising along FM 4 herre in Texas going up hill into the wind with my trailer on. I was running about 70 and thought, faster. So I grabbed a hand full of throttle and the Venture sounded like and old Chevy 283 with a two speed Hydromatic that had down shifted. Instant thought dam clutch slipping. Well it turns out that was the case. took it to Yamaha west in Ft Worth. Where I bought it. They tore it down measured everything. Gave me the bad news clutch discs worn out. I asked what it was going to cost to fix it, TalKd about the options of upgrades and all like I've read about here. Well Aaron said lets hold off and see if I can get it covered under warrenty. I said well ok but its a wear item they probably wom,t cover it. He said that yamaha really likes to take care of Venture owners, lets try. Well he called yesterday and lo and behold, COVERED!!!!! I can't say for sure if it is a dealership thing or a Yamaha thing, but I can say that these guys have really taken care of any and all concerns I have ever had with the bike. And if you remember last summer when a fellow Venture riders shock laid down on him here in Texas and he was ffrom Utah. Guess who had the shock Yamaha west. Goose picked it up and went to Blanco with Tom and got him going. Kudos to all involved. Well I just want to say if your in north texas and need Yamaha service or parts you will do your self a favor by giving these guys a shot at your business they have sure earned mine!!! :bighug:Btw 2008 Venture with 60,000 yes 60,000 miles and, COVERED!!!!
  24. How can Honda, Justify the price on their Goldwings? What so special about them that they are nearly twice the price of a Yamaha venture
  25. Got the Bestem bag delivered a while back. Just got around to checking it out on the bike (its in off site storage). Question for the group, or any of you that may have this bag. The one I received is not rectangular. The main compartment tapers to sort of a triangle shape. In looking closer at the website, you can sort of see that this would be the case, although the dimensions listed don't reflect the taper. Anyone have any experience with this? Still a great sized bag, just curious. Also wondering if the Yamaha stock bag is the same way ( I believe Bestem makes them for Yamaha)... Thanks in advance. Bob
