I just finished cutting my stock windshield and it was way easier than I thought it would be. I bought my RSV about 2 weeks ago and picked it up at about 2000 and rode home in the dark. It really worried me not being able to see out of the windshield very well. I searched the forum and learned that I am not the only one concerned with this. I took about 3.5 inches off the shield and love the new look. I have yet to test ride yet but dont forsee any problems. I also got my windshield bags delivered today and if I must say I really like the look of them. I did notice that the windscreen coating peeled when I removed the masking tape after the cut job. I read the forums for solutions and tried duct tape as suggested but this became a pain. I went into wifes closet and found a lint roller. This worked like a charm I was very pleased but had to strip layers of tape from roller after every pass. I used about half the rollers tape but my wife will never know (SHHHH). I am also very please to announce that I am officailly a supporting member of this wonderful site. I am going to buy a windshield from clearview and was wondering if the sealant around the vent they put in for you yellows after a while. Thanks for the response.

Being a new (to me) 06 RSTD owner, was wondering how others handle traveling with the bikes quick release components. Wife and I have taken several overnight trips recently, and we always pull the windshield and backrest at the end of the day and take to our room. No biggee really except we're pretty spontaneous which usually results in an upstairs room. The dang organized folks get the first level. Anyone have theft problems with these items when on the road or public parked? Any creative locking solutions? -
hello everyone. i just purchased a 2000 venture and i have a few questions. i love the bike and after i took my wife for a ride in the country and then on the freeway, she was fine under 60 mph but over that she is getting beat to death with the wind. the windshield on the bike is a show chrome after market windshield. my question is, is the windshield need to be taller or lower. i am 6'6'' and 230 lbs. I have a yamaha raider also and she don't complain about the wind on it. but on the venture she sets up higher. how can i correct the problem. the windshield is 13'' tall from chrome trim at the bottom of the windshield to the top of the shield. and it is 31'' wide. any help would be appriciated -
After researching different antennas on line I found a good deal on an amplified AM-FM antenna at my local PEP Boys! The unit cost $19.99 + tax. I tested and mounted it below the windshield. It works better than the original 48" CB whip. Attached are a few photos for anyone interested in the install.

Just about got a turkey in the chest today. He was gliding across the road about windshield height.... Luckly.... with the help of my horn and braking, we didn't meet up. It got me to thinking about the time I rode in to PKB on my bike and a Mechanic there showed me scars on his chest and shoulders a couple years back. Said it was from a 20 lb. turkey strike, He was on a harley, without a windshield traveling about 60 mph. Took him off the bike an busted up his ribs... Didn't quite know wether to believe him or not... I'm a believer now.... This was about an 8 on the pucker scale! Just be careful out there...

Hello everyone. I'm brand new here. I have a 2006 RSV, and it's nearly perfect! I am thinking about getting a shorter windshield for summer riding. I love the big shield when it's cold, but I would like to feel a breeze when it's 90 degrees. I was wondering if anyone could give me feedback on the shorter shields. I'm 6' tall, and I'm looking at either a 6" or an 8" windshield (measured from the front where the chrome meets the plastic). I'm mainly looking for guys (about my height) that have put on short windshields. I don't want to get a bunch of buffeting around my head, but I would like to "feel" some airflow. Thanks for any info.

Today...I noticed that the windshield on my 08 RSV was a little "loose". So I pulled the top fairing screws and removed the chrome trim. Now I can see why the windshield was loose! Missing 2 screws COMPLETLY and 3 screws just about ready to fall out. The screw that mounts in the hole in thw windshield is one of the screws that is MIA. Closed inspection reveals that screw hole in the fairing is completely broken off. (insert swear word here). Since it looks like the screws may have fallen inside the fairing, I decide to crack the fairing to look for the screws. The GOOD...I found one of the screws. The BAD??? The crossmember that the windshield screws actually attach to is held in place by a frickin' TIE WRAP! The bolt holes that SHOULD be used for mounting the windshield crossmember are rusty...which means that the two flange bolts where never installed. Worse yet, where the windshield crossmembers connects to the inner fairing, those are completely broken off as well. AND...two of the tabs on the Chrome Trim are broken.... The dealer I bought the bike from went out of business several months ago, and the dealer I'm currently has already replaced the turnk lid and left lower fairing due to cracks and broken pieces. He's gonna have a stroke..cause now he will have to replace the entire fairing (both inner and outer). Has anyone else encountered these types of issues? I know that the bike is still under warranty, but I'm pretty sure the dealer is going to question how these things got broken. Do you think these "failures" are due to Yamaha "engineering" or the fault of the 16-year old mechanic making $8 bucks an hour to uncrate and assemble these bikes at the dealership?? Me...I'm on the fence!

Hello Everyone: FYI, I just listed a 14" windshield and lower plastic pieces, that I resently took off of my 05 RSTD. It is less than one year old. I simply needed a bit taller windshield. I put on a 19.5 inch windshield. Let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks...

It has been a month since I picked up my 02 Goldwing trike. I've ridden it 3,000 miles in that time and truly enjoy it. I'm waiting for a taller windshield to arrive which will help with the wind buffeting. This has been my biggest complaint. It has a stock windshield and I sit tall so this should remedy the problem. I also installed baker airwings and plan to get the wings for the mirrors. Sunday I rode 10 1/2 hours and was more tired from the wind as I rode interstate the whole way. It is so easy to ride and takes a ton of stress out of riding. I'm pleased with the purchase.

The other day I rode through my first full blown rain storm with my new Venture and I got a rude awakening to how dangerous the tall RSV windshield is in bad weather. Because it sits so vertical and because you can't look over it, the rain blocked my vision much worse then previous bikes I owned with windshields. Another thing I noticed about this windshield too, was that I still got hit in the face by rain that came in from the sides. I wear glasses, so this just compounded my vision problems. I'm going on a 4000km East Coast trip in a week so I decided to cut the stock windshield down. I've always set my windshields up to where I am just looking through or slightly above the top lip and, in bad weather, I can sit up a little straighter and look over the shield for safety's sake. One thing I like about that set up, as well, is that the slip stream from the wind coming off the top of the windshield takes any rain and deflects it away from my face. On my last bike (with a National Cycle HD Touring windshield) I could ride through torrential downpours and 99% of the water went over or around my head. I'm an airplane mechanic and I was going to do this myself, but a buddy at work offered and he's a wicked perfectionist (and a great machinist!) so I let him do it. - I first sat on the bike and then used a piece of paper and some tape to try different measurements for looking ahead and marked where the cut should be. - Then I used masking tape and taped off the area I was cutting on both sides of the plastic - I found the exact centerline of the screen and marked it then I freehand traced the profile on one side only in black marker. For me, I decided to cut the windshield at exactly 4" from the top, in the center. I then traced out a flatter profile then the stock one (one side only!) - I then copied the profile I drew onto a blank piece of paper and reversed it and transferred it over to the opposite side of the screen. this way, the two halves will be symmetrical... which is more important then the actual shape, IMO. - I used painters masking paper and covered the front and back areas of the bike - My buddy then cut the profile out using an air saw with a fine tooth hacksaw blade. The air saws are great because you can vary the speed and you won't melt the plastic. Another tip here is to start the cuts from BOTH sides and work towards the middle. DO NOT cut from one end only and go right across, because there's a chance when you get near the end that the vibration will cause the last little bit to crack off before you cut through it. Meet the two cuts near the centerline of the screen. Also, do this rough cut just above the profile line you marked. - The next step is to rough file the edge down to the mark - Once that's done, take a small wooden block with some fine grit sandpaper and then polish the end cut until its level and smooth. Then run the block along the edges and put a slight bevel on the plastic. I didn't do as extreme as the stock bevel though. I also left some rather sharp edges on both ends of the new cut to make the windshield look a little more "slammed"... sorta like some Harley batwing screens. I think my RSV looks much better "balanced" now when seen from the front. The results were great! A test drive after proved that 4" off was perfect for me (I'm only 5'8"). I could look over the windshield easily and there was no buffeting at all. I had to lift my head up almost 6" to start to feel the buffet. If I have passengers, they may get a bit of buffeting but I ride solo mostly, so that's not really an issue for me. Total cost = $0 Bike shop wanted $75 to do this for me and I would have had to remove the windshield and bring it to them. Howdy folks. All was going well. I was on the way back to where I was staying from where I work so that I could drop off my stuff and go get a bite to eat. There is a ramp that goes down below to the parking garage area. Someone decided it was a good idea to wash off the concrete and not tell anyone (one of the housekeepers just doing as they were told). Well, for a 4 wheeled car, it would have been no big deal. For someone on 2 wheels, I might as well have been driving on ice. I'm fine, but my windshield snapped off when the bike hit the ground. The front crash bar was bent a little bit, but other than that, I don't see any other damage (some how my mirror got twisted around too). While I was standing next to my bike and looking around, the little housekeeper comes sprinting across the garage and puts down a 'caution, wet floor' sign right next to my bike. Thanks for the warning lady. Ug. SO, if anyone nearby has a windshield they would be willing to let go for cheap, let me know - I'm more than likely interested. EDIT: By the way it is a 2001 RSV

Purchased a replacement windshield for my 96RS from CBaileys and realized that I need the rest of the windshield , chrome trim and acrylic piece that adjusts down to headlight. -

So rode my RSTD into work today and in several areas had to pass thru fog. The first area was not that big of a deal but 2 places later on were not good. My windshield fogged up and since I look thru it it was a major issue. Short of waiting for the day to warm up before leaving for work, is there any concoction that can be put on to avoid this? I ended up pulling over and wiping off the windshield, but it was not long before it was bad again. Luckily I was close to the end of my commute.

My new-to-me 97 Tour Classic came with a Yamaha Windshield. It measures 23 1/2 inches from the headlight opening to the top. I assumed that was the "Tall" that was originally on the bike. The shield itself has the protective coating pealing off really badly which makes looking through it when the sun hits near impossible. So since I need a new windshield anyway, I am trying to purchase a "Medium" so that I can look over the top. Now as far as I can tell checking data from various websites the Yamaha windshields come in three sizes each 3 inches shorter than the next: Tall - 23 1/2 inches Medium - 20 1/2 inches Short - 17 1/2 inches So twice now I have won auctions from two different sellers on E-Bay selling a Medium Royal Star Windshield. Problem is when I get them they measure 17 1/2 inches which I believe to be a short - not the medium I thought I was buying. The first one the seller stated he was unsure and just "thought" it was a medium and took it back. The last one even had the following part number on it: STR-4NL07-10-00, which, when I looked it up showed a medium, but when I just opened the box it measures 17 1/2 inches again. So, as sit here for a second time very frustrated: What is the true measurement of the Yamaha "Medium"? What Yamaha Part Number should I be looking for if I want a medium shield for a 97 Tour Classic?

I been trying to find a Windsheild Mole 1 (Part Number 4XY-28345-00-00 ) for my 09 Royal Star Venture. The only place I can find them are from Yamaha, they run from $165 to about $190. I put a showcrome windshield on my bike, but in taking the stock shield off, I broke the tabs that hold the mole agains the windshield. I hate like heck paying that kind of money for a piece of plastic. You would think someone would sell a metal chrome mole. Anyhow, just wondering.. Love the bike, great ride... Ride Safe. D:nanner: -
I've found clearview and Cee Bailey, are there any other manufacturers out there. I cut mine down to where I could barely see through it and with the wind blockers on the lowers, it works fine. But it's summer now, the blockers have to come off. And with that the buffeting is terrible. Gonna have to get a taller windshield for summer, but I've only got a month to do it. (Vacation coming up)

I am fighting with a high speed wobble on my RSV with a Kumho rear tire. Before I remove the Kumho & throw it away, I want to try a Tall Winshield in place of the short one I have on there now. Does anyone have a Tall Windshield in a corner collecting dust that they can part with cheaply. I don't want to spend a lot of money to check this out, because I probably will be buying a replacement rear tire soon. Anyone? Email and/or PM me please. Thanks; John B.

I am trying to install the two moles on top and bottom of the front chrome windshield trim. Has anyone come up with a good adhesive to hold these in place? -
