Hi, I am fairly new to the Venture Rider Org.. Last week I purchased a 1989 Venture Royale. But before I did, I had a post on this site asking for advice on what to look for in a Venture. I cannot believe the help I had received. I really appreciate it. I purchased the bike from Allan, who has kept the bike in really nice shape. He has added alot of nice accessories to it. Besides the oil change I have just done. The bike is just ready to ride. I am finally starting to get used to the weight of the bike, after a couple of tanks of gas. I am scheduled for a surgery at the end of next week that will keep me from riding for about 3 months. After that I was planning on shopping around and purchasing a 2006 Royal Star Venture. Well it looks like I found a pretty good deal now so I may purchase before the surgery. The help I need is what to look for in a used RSV. I know it's only a year old and has less than 600 miles but the old adage of "if it seems to good to be true it probably is" keeps kicking me in the butt. Any advice on what to look for would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well after years of peace and quiet riding two up...the wife and I finally decided to break the silence and invest in some headsets. We choose the J&M 257 unit and purchased the same from WingStuff.com along with the additional cord that will fit our Wing and Venture. Has anyone here purchased the J&M 257? If so, we would love to hear your comments...the reviews we read at J&M were rather favorable.

Venture Riders, I just lost 5th gear on my 2003 Venture. Has anyone ever had any trouble with the transmission? Bakers517

My 86 Venture Royale will not go much above 5500 to 6000 rpm in 4th and 5th gear. It seems to hit a wall and won't go any faster. Can anyone suggest what the cause is and how to fix it. Is it a timing problem or weak valve springs causing the valves to float at high rpm? Otherwise the motor starts right away, runs very smoothly. I am probably not getting the acceleration that I should at the lower range but as this is my first Venture I have nothing to compare it with. At this time, my V-Star 1100 Classic has far more top end. Help!!

Just wondering if anyone has a rear brake pedal laying around that would fit a 99 Venture. It does not matter if the arm is bent some. I would like to experiment with adding to the pedal to make it a little longer. Thanks. I'm going to check ebay as well. Spotsy

I just got a fantastic deal on an 86 Venture Royale with 43K miles on it and I expected issues with it. This one seems to have an oil leak directly below the saddle and it drips onto the exhaust causing smoke. Does anybody have any idea where I should start looking and what it may be? I must say that the Venture is a fantastic bike and I am looking forward to many years of riding.

Hi Everyone, First I'd like to say thanks for such a great site. I've really learned a lot from many of the posts. I'm particularly impressed with the helpfulness of eveyone. Anyone care to help some more? I picked up an 83 Venture XVZ1200 from a friend and it wasn't running. The current status is I'm only getting spark from 2 cylinders (1 & 3). Thanks to this site I've tried quite a few things so I thought if anyone could point me another direction I'd be very grateful. Here's the list of what I've tried: I changed out the plugs Primary coil is within limits Spark coils are within limits I refitted the plug wires (cut about 1/4 inch at the coil and plugs and re-fitted) Pressure sensor tested within limits Cleaned all electrical connections with spray Pulled the TCI and opened the cover, it smelled like fuel, I dried it for about 20 minutes on LOW with a hair dryerNot sure what else to do although I still suspect the TCI. Any help would be appreciated. Can't wait to go for a first ride! Thanks in advance.

i bought an 83 venture for parts and it turned out to be a great fixer upper. problem is that i don't have the keys to it. does anyone out there have the complete ignition set for a venture for sale. i need the main ignition, saddle bags, fuel cover, rear bag and dash compartmet ignition and key? Ray.

Bought my wife a scorpion open face Exo 200 helmets in blue.. Wife wore it for about an hour and decided she wanted closed face again. So we went out and got the scorpion closed. Anyway,, any venture rider who whats the open can have it for 70 bucks del in the usa. Cost me 100 plus there is a extra light smoke visor that was 24 extra.. all yours. The blue is really close to the 07 venture but not a perfect match. jack

Hi Guys, Speaking to a friend of mine who has an 05 Venture. He tells me that the engine in the Ventures can take alot. He suggests pushing it a bit harder and that you won't hurt the bike. I have an 07 Venture with about 5000 km on it. I don;t want to hurt my baby, but would like to rev it up a bit more.......is it ok to push it thru the gears harder? Thanks

Hi all! I'm in dire need of 4 rebuild kits for an 85 Venture. especially need the needle/seats, all O-rings and the jet block gaskets. Maybe the slide diaphrams also. Anyone know where I can find a set of saddlebag and trunk liners for an '84 Venture Royale? I have looked on ebay, Google, checked out all of the known resources like TLC and Bikrbackrest. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am doing this for a buddy of mine, and it is a surprise for him. TIA

Hello all. I just happened across Freebird's post (http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1066), and was so happy that I did. I am a little concerned over these issues (especially the Stator & the 2nd gear issue, as I assume that these two would be the costliest to rectify) because I just recently purchased an '83 Venture Royale, and will be picking it up from the dealership, tomorrow. I am not mechanically inclined, and really don't have the 'depth of pocket' by which to have any such needed work performed by a professional. I am sure that this will give lead for many to wonder why I chose to involve myself in such a pastime - when being positioned within such narrow financial parameters. The answer is, simply, that I love biking. I know that the bike I'm getting is 24 years old, and that parts DO wear out . But I am stepping out, on faith, that (first) the Good Lord will grant me safety & well-being, and (secondly) that I will know a decent amount of riding time before any heavy repairs are warranted. I will have a 30 day warranty period, and I was wondering if there was a way that the Stator, and shift assembly could be tested/checked for their levels of worth, and capability. Or would the situation with the Stator be such that you wouldn't know of a problem with it until it went? As far as riding the bike to tell how the shifting goes with it, I (naturally) have no experience with it - so I'd have no way of telling whether or not it felt right . I remember, 15-16 years back, how I had occasion to ride a number of different bikes. Some were very easy shifters, while others were not, and I would have no way of knowing what is characteristic for any particular bike - as opposed to something being wrong. Any direction in this matter would be greatly appreciated, and I offer many advanced thanks.

My 1985 Venture Royale has slipping clutch in 4th and 5th gears. Was going to repalce with Barnett SR 2 Pressure plate and clutches. Was told this does not fit 1985 .. So what have others done to correct slipping clutch on 1985... How good are EBC clutches and springs.. Thank You Joe in NJ

Ok so here is an interesting question, I have an 84 venture royale I had it sitting idling and the voltage guage kept going a lil lower then the engine stalled out. the bike was running for a bit I was trying to work the cob webs out from not running for so long. my question is does the stator on the venture not put out alot of power at a low idle? I think it does idle a lil low so I was thinking it might not be putting out enough power unless I raise the idle. when I rolled on the throttle the power came up so it was produceing enough power if i was riding it. is this common for the venture or is my idle just set too low?

Has anybody ever tried to pipe the output from an MP3 Player through the audio system of the Venture? I would think that you might be able to feed the output from the MP3 Player into the input from the cassette player. Just imagine a few hundred of your favorite songs, playing through the speakers of the Venture, without fumbling for cassettes. I look forward to hearing from anybody with Thoughts or Suggestions about this idea. Thanks, Dean

When I start the Venture and switch on the cruise control for the first time it always works flawlessly. If I then cancel it and try to resume speed it works sometimes and not every time. If I switch off the cruise control and turn it back on again it usually won't set. Is there anything that I can do to make it work more consistently?
