  1. Has anyone put the trunk off a Venture on a RSTD? I am thinking the full fairing off a Venture would be a little more difficult? I know, if I want a Venture buy one. I like the Red/Raven RSTD and don't think they make a Venture in that color combination. Thanks, Rick
  2. Has anyone tried a Kuryakyn trunk rack for a Goldwing on a Venture? I have been trying to find a Yamaha one with no luck as they are on national backorder.
  3. I have a 2002 and the trunk only opens wide enough to squeeze the helmet in. I checked the bar on the left hand side to see if it was bent but it is traveling all the way to the end. Is this normal for the trunks or can I do something to make it open more?
  4. Just thought I'd pass along a recommendation for an organizer that hangs from the inside of the trunk lid. I bought one before a recent trip and am totally satisfied with it. It's got a zipper pouch which is good for holding bungees, Progressive air pump, tire gauge, etc and a couple of mesh pouches to hold rags, phone chargers, and even those extra cassette tapes that Yamaha thinks we all still carry around! It's also got a mirror on a velcro flap. Works great for holding those little lightweight items you've gotta have but don't want cluttering up the bottom of the trunk. You can order direct from their site http://www.cruzcraft.com/motorcycle-luggage-yamaha-venture-YVLO.html or from their eBay store http://stores.ebay.com/Ted-Brooks-Motorsports
  5. Is it possible to put the RSV trunk and seat on a Tour Delux? Seems that all the right bolt holes are there in the side fender rails. Not sure about the seat and rear fender. I have a friend who's passenger want's a bit more comfort.

    Trunk Running Lights

I have a '92 VR. Has anyone encountered problems with the trunk running lights blowing bulbs or the bulb sockets not making connection with the bulbs. All the bulbs in mine were working, when suddenly, I had one working on the righthand side. Once I figured-out how to remove the &^%$ thing (What a stupid design!), I found two bulbs had turned black. I kept swapping the remaining two around until they worked in the outer sockets; however, I could not get either one to work in the center two sockets. Has anyone encountered this or a similar problem? If so, what is a good fix for it? Thanks, Randy
  7. Just wondering if the bags and trunk from an '86 will connect right up to an '85. I can't imagine retooling for bags that are a little bit larger.
  8. I had previously posted a query about how to repair the broken rear trunk lock bracket which broke off the lid. A lot of suggestions forwarded and a lot of attempts 'attempted' but they failed unfortunately.. Even using the ABS glue and sealant, making a slurry trick didn't work (poor man's welding). No matter what I had tried, a day's ride and vibes would break the bond. I can now happily say I have the lock bracket glued and secured in place for the past 2 weeks with a lot of locking useage, variable heat and humidity and vibes to really put the test to it and it's a good bond.. this one ain't going to come apart. Ultra Bond Plastic Expoxy... It comes in a purple package, comes in the typical 2 parts mini-containers. You brush on one liquid to both parts and let dry 30 secs, and then apply a bead to one part, and press together for 30 secs.. full solid bond in 24 hours as most 2 part epoxies do.. I tried to find an online image of the package to make it easier for others to locate but to no avail.. Oh and when they say "caution, bonds skin instantly" they mean it.. kewl. The product causes the two parts to melt and bond, basically 'welding' to each other very nicely. So, after 2 weeks, the bracket is rock solid and shows no signs of fatigue or re-cracking. I still have the package in the trunk, if someone is desperate enough to need to see it I can do a pic and post it.. etc.. FYI to a fix that actually worked.. =)
  9. The wife and I were riding around yesterday when at a reststop she told me it looked like my trunk was bouncing when I hit sizable bumps in the road. (She was riding her V-Star 1100). I immediately found that 2 bolts were missing on the left side from the support bars. Also one on the other side was turned about 1/2 way out. Fortunately I had a bunch of zip ties with me and proceeded to attach them for temp. support. I had just gone over the bike a week earlier with a very good eye when I was spit shining it for a PGR Mission. They were there then, and tight. (I figured they were tight as no space between head of bolt and attachment bar). Anyone ever have these come loose on their own? I will be getting with my dealer in the morning to express ship me a couple of these. I am riding back to work a week from today, (Sunday, July 27th), 1200 miles one way and would prefer bolts over zip ties. I have a bit of luggage, but don't put that much in the trunk. Usually a couple bags on the pilion seat.
  10. I bought this off ebay from a regular vender. I was very disappointed in the quality of the "finishing". Before I bought this one, I asked on this forum about a cheaper "after-market" version for $80 on ebay. Consensus was that it did not have the 4 supports and others had their trunk lids crack as a result. So I paid more and got the "Yamaha" accessory. The factory pic used by 3 retailers is the same - NO detail options to zoom in. I am posting here with pics I took to find out if others who have this rack can tell me if this one has defective or left over weld marks on the 2 front curved legs at the female ends where it mounts onto the lid. The 2 straight rear legs are finished properly. Thanks for looking!
  11. Hello to all and let me just thank you all for helping me with this question. I'm looking into getting a trunk rack to be able to carrie extra stuff can anyone tell me how much weight can I put on top of the rack and is it a good idea to get it. thanks again for the responds from all.
  12. Maybe I can get some pictures up later. I just removed the trunk to see how bad it was. I'm talking 6 inch cracks up the side,up the back, across the bottom almost end to end. We got one chunk of plastic missing about 2 1/2 inch square. Obviously this one did not get the Yamaha recall repair in 99. So for a cheap quick fix now ASAP what are my options. I don't care if I have to replace the trunk later but now time is the problem.
  13. 1. Add a $6-9 battery switch (60-70 amp available many auto supplies, ie. PepBoys) to the negative side of the battery. Mount switch next to battery (in fairing on 1st Gen.). Saves battery if bike sits for more than 2-3 weeks. 2. Add a 10 amp headlight switch to reduce the load when starting up on low/bad battery. Cut into fused side of the headlight circuit. 3. Add a 10 amp switch to turn on the radiator fan anytime. From the accessory side of fuse curcuit run power to a switch then down to the fan circuit along left side frame, light blue wire. The noise should remind you to shut off the power when engine is stopped. Use when thermostatic switch comes on too late, non functioning, or with extended idling. 4. Install individual switches for different accessories, if they don't completely shut off. (memory, clocks, CPU's) 5. Run external wires off the battery to connect a a charger so the cover does not have to be removed. Cover exposed ends well. 6. Screens on the radiator to easily remove bugs and prevent stone damage. Aluminum looks best. 7. Trunk handle- mounted to open trunk easier 8. Install power outlet for temporary accessories, car compressor, etc. 9. Magnets (strong ones) mounted on the center stand to trip stop lights, cheap at hardware stores. 10. Pull carb caps off and slide out. Replace white spacer to drop jet needle .010-.015" Needs to be deeper in emulsion tube. Increases MPG by 5. 1/2 hour job. Use small washers. 11. Drivers back rest. Mine cost $20-30. Walmart Igloo cooler. Added foam pad. Spongee corded to trunk and passeger handles. Adds a lot of storage. 12. Fork seals. Put a second set if yours are leaking on top of 1st set. Leave originals in place, they lubrication new set and last 50+k miles, 10 years longer! Use super glue around edges. 13. Add plexiglass wings around the windshield for added wind protection. Use a sharp drill and rubber washers. 14. Throttle rockers help weak wrists and reduce fatique, Ebay $10 15. Hiway forward pegs, JCWhitney, Ebay, allow legs to stretch. 16. Reposition clutch and brake levers so they are easy to reach, & even, this is a major safety item. I like them lower so my fingers do not have to wrap up over levers. 17. Lower the foot gear and rear brake levers so you do not have to lift you foot off the pegs. All are adjustable, easy job, much safer too. 18. I got more!! Questions write me chuck_french@juno.com make sure you write a decent subject line so I don't delete.
  14. Lately I've had a little trouble closing the lid on my trunk on my 07 Venture. This morning it was really difficult. Doesn't seem to want to latch. It was dark when I rode to work so I couldn't tell what was going on. I know nothing was between the hook and the latch. I'd appriciate any suggestions. TIA, Eddie:confused24:
  15. ergh.. disappointing wot? the latch catch on the trunk lid came off the lid last night. a clean break. Right now when you close the trunk, only one side latches. Apart from purchasing a new trunk lid, is there a proper method and materials for welding the ABS plastics together strongly enough for this area? Cheers
  16. Recently my house burn't with my key's in it. I looked and dug through the debris but with no luck. I have called all the locksmiths in town but they all say the same thing "We don't do motorcycles". I called the dealer and they can sell me an ignition key but i would have to buy seperate keys and locks for the trunk and saddle bags. Any suggestions? Jerry Smith "electrictat2" 1993 Yamaha Venture Royale
  17. After hearing about passinger floorboard and trunk mads I thought I'd give it a try myself. My wife is tall so the boards needed to go forward and down 3" each, so I cut the hinge of the OEM mount off and welded 1/4" plate to the cut end which added width. I then welded plate to the end to turn down and forward 3". After shaping the angle to match the original piece I cut the "T" end of a Harley floorboard mount and welded it to the bottom of the turned down plate. With that in place I welded gussets for strenght to the front and back angles. After shapping and grinding the edges smooth I chromed the piece and installed Kuryakyn floorboards. For the detachable trunk I took a HD trunk rack piece I got for $10 at a salvage yard and welded it to the OEM RS backrest upright just above the latching mechanism. I then cut out the backrest hoop and filled and shaped the connection. For ragidity and to minamize vibration I welded two angled struts from midpoint of the frame down to an existing attachment point on the rear fender rail. I then installed a HD tour pak painted to match the bike. I would appreciate hearing what you think.
  18. i need your help on this matter. i bought my wife a brand new helmet($80) to match the bike. got it out of the box and put it in the trunk she got it out and there was a big scratch on it i asked her when did she drop it she said that she didnt so i just blamed it on one of the kids. got it out again sunday and there was another one on it by this time i am getting real mad about it but didnt say any thing to the wife or kids. so today i rode it to work went to put my helmet in the trunk by the way mine is a half helmet no scrathes yet i look at hers again and i can see that it is a fresh scratch on it i looked inside of the trunk and i see paint on the bolts that hold the luggage rack on and i put 2 and 2 together. so my queistion to you guys is what did you do about this problem did you put some thing on them to make the problem go away or did you cut them down or am i the only one with this problem? by the way i gueess i owe the kids an apology when i get home.
  19. Hey: getting ready to put LEDstrip under trunk of 07 RSV and haven't opened LED package yet, wondering if anyone has info on color of wires needed to hook into for running light and brake light. also do i need to remove trunk to get to wiring? Thanks Brian d.
  20. My wife was at a bike dealership and was looking at a used bike but what got eye was a bag that was in the trunk to put all of her stuff (brush, mirror etc) in reached from one side of the trunk to the other. I went on line and cant seem to find what she was talking about. If you guys and gals can help me out with this. thanks
  21. Hey all, have had my midnight venture over three weeks and i have a hard time getting rear trunk to shut and latch without putting serious weight into it and even then it takes a couple of times of pushing down to get it latched. took off black plastic latch cover inside trunk and everything seem tight and lined up. wondering if anyone else had this problem and ideas to correct it. oh when i get it latched it does lock as it should and opens fine. thanks Brian D.
  22. Hi again. I am getting rid of the main trunk that was on my '83 venture. We had a bad period, this past winter, and my bike (outside, but tarped) was blown over by the very strong winds. One of the side-trunks was damaged, in the blow over, and its twin was damaged in my efforts to remove it. My bike doesn't look right with just the larger/main trunk behind me, so I am letting it go. I am open to cash offers, or even willing to trade for a fairing windshield that is in better shape than my pitted one. The color of my trunk is pinkish/red - and I can try to post a picture up, if anyone shows interest in it. I live in Amherst, NY, and wouldn't mind traveling a 25-mile radius (before I start painting my bike).
  23. The CB antena wire goes into the black box under the trunk where do U connect the meter to adjust the SWR Gambler:15_8_211[1]:
  24. That you would like to get out of your way? I am looking for a Second Gen Trunk. I know in 99 when I got my 99 Venture there was a problem with the trunks cracking and many were able to get them replaced. I was wondering if anyone had an old one that they would be willing to part with. Let me know if you have anything you could part with. Thanks! John
  25. ...in McKinney with a mini beer keg on the trunk that had a Coors Light sticker on it.
