  1. I plan on going to the darkside next summer. I ordered an extra wheel so that if I didn't like it I could just change back with no problem. I like having a spare rear wheel anyway. I ordered it from http://www.pinwallcycle.com/ and received it yesterday. The wheel was is great shape for a used wheel and it only took four days for delivery. I paid $89 plus 33 shipping and the tire on the wheel looks brand new. It's a dunlop 404 so I'm not sure if I will run it or sell it. I heard the 404 is not that good of a tire for our bike. Anyway if your looking for used parts they are a very good source.

    Front tire noise

Hello everyone I'm new to this site and I like it , very informative. I bought an 09 RSV in January and have loged about 16000 kms. since then, love the bike. The only thing so far that kind of anoys me , is the whine from the front tire. It does not matter wether i'm leaning left or right that loud whine comes up through the forks and it drives me nuts. I'll be changing tires in the spring .Any recomendations on quiet front tires? Thanks Gus...
  3. Ok Folks... I just bought a time out Dart recently... and I'm wondering where to set the tire pressure... The guy I bought it from said to keep it about 10 - 15 psi, But, the max load on the tire says 90 psi. I realize that I'm not gonna be pushing the "Max Load" of the tire, but thought 10 - 15 sounded awfully low. The tires are "Carlisle USA Trail" tires 4.80-12. Thanks
  4. tryen to get a hf tire changer from online . i can not find the motorcycle adapter anywhere on the site. i know alot of you have them, can you point me to a part number or web page showing them. i called a hf store and they need a part number to find them? nice knowing thier on top of there supply and inventory , said she -can not help with out part number and i said web page not showing it and she said sorry.maybe they stoped making it? seen a portable motorcyle stand on ebay for $79.00 but cant find anyone that has one to say good or bad . its a copy of hf i think.
  5. Have an 05 RSTD and the front tire is ready to be replaced. I was told to replace the 150 with a 130 and will experience better handling. As with most things there are trade off. Would greatly appreciate your ideas. Thanks in advance Norm
  6. I've got the upgraded starter drive installed, the new stator, and also a different rear wheel with good bearings and it runs great. The new starter drive by Dano works fantastic. It engages really clean and positive...no more noises of things slipping. Took the bike on a 50 mile ride yesterday and it feels great. No oil leaks and no new noises. Today I had to put on a new rear tire because my Avon had a plug in it and Barb and I are taking off for a week. The only tire I could find was a Dunlop K591 with Harley Davidson written on the side. The dealer only had one that was a little wider 150x80x16 so it was a b**ch to get in. It was so wide that I had to let the air out and PUSH to get it to go in. It has enough clearance when the shaft drive coupling engages but there isn't much room to spare on the left side at the suspension linkage coupling. I was worried how it would feel, but actually it turns very good. A lot better than the K491 did. The thread looks like a k491, but it's quiet so it has to be a little different. The price surprised me.....$130 from a dealer and only $22 to mount and balance it. For that price I let them do it. Anybody know anything about this tire?? How long do they last? Right after church tomorrow morning, Barb and I are heading south. We're going to meet our friends in the southern tip of Illinois and then spend next week in Arkansas and probably stop in Branson. Hot Springs and Mountain Home were mentioned, but we're only bumming, no schedule. Heck, we might even get to the casinos in Mississippi a little. Frank
  7. Just for the record, a friend I work with had the belts come apart in his Venom over the week. He had just put the tire on his 1800 Goldwing a couple months ago before taking a trip up along the coast. The rear tire only had 4,000 miles. Avon told him that his tire was after the bad batch with the cracking problem. Don't know, but glad I got Dunlops.....
  8. Asked local Yamaha dealer to quote new tire with them doing the labor on my 83 Venture. They won't work on bikes older than '85! Afraid if they break something they can't get parts. Now I see why folks are parting out much nicer bikes than mine. Guess I'm gonna have to get brave and do this myself. Studied the process but still uncomfortable. Would like to see a video with shaft/spline, brakes, ??? maintainance included. Wonder if I could find some help here... http://www.barbervintagefestival.org/ this weekend.
  9. We got home from St. Judes about 8:00 oclock, other than fighting the cross winds on I 40 everything went well. (even the plug in the tire) It was good to see old friends and make new ones. Hope everyone makes it home safe.
  10. I have a 08 that I need to replace the front tire and the dealer is high. Who gives the best price? I don't want bay and get a old tire. Thanks
  11. I just had the rear tire replaced on our 2000 RSV that we bought last spring. The guy that did the work said that the Dunlop 404 that was on there was too light of tire. Now have E3 on back. Amazing, what a difference in handling and ride. The front tire is a 404 with about half tred left. Will replacing the front with a E3 improve the ride as much as what the rear did? The guy at the shop said to run it out and replace it when it needs to be.
  12. Canadian Tire has their Motomaster Motorcycle and ATV jack (1500lb capacity) on sale for $70 but Costco has a Powerbuilt Triple Lift (4500lb) for $100. Any recommendations? This is for a 2nd Gen RSV. Canadian Tire/Motomaster : http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/AutoTools/CreepersJacksStands/PRD~0091015P/Motorcycle%252BJack.jsp?locale=en lift - 4-5/8" to 14-1/2" Costco/Powerbuilt : lift range - 5 1/2" to 17 1/2" locking safety bar http://www.alltradetools.com/index.php/introducing-the-only-floor-jack-that-can-lift-a-car-truck-motorcycle-or-atv-the-new-powerbuilt-triple-lift-jack/ (this is the 4000lb version) Recommendations ?
  13. I would like to hear your opinions on a tire issue. On sept 9th as we were leaving to head out west I noticed my rear tire looked low so I checked and sure enough it was down to about 25 lbs. Tire shop found a nail in it and would not repair it. I have been running Avons for a while now and the rear was about three months old. The only thing they had in stock was a Dunlop 404 which I am not a fan of but we were literally on our way out of town when I stopped at the shop. So anyway, I had the Dunlop installed and headed out. Now I am in South Dakota and 3800 miles into this trip and the new tire is about shot. I think it will last the rest of the trip which should total about 5200 miles and I will keep a very close watch on it the rest of the way. This whole trip has been 2 up, pulling a loaded Bushtec trailer and through the mtns of Colorado, Yellowstone and Bighorn mountains of Wyoming and parts of Montana. Do you think that the tire should have lasted longer than this or do you think that it did what it should have considering the conditions?
  14. Well kids, im gonna pull the trigger. My Avon rear tire wore out in less than 10k. I usually got closer to 14k on them. Didnt do anything different either. So......im looking to order a Kuhmo Power Star 758. One place had it for 52.90 with free shipping but its backordered for 45 days. I put in a price match request with a local dealer and ill see what he comes up with. He wants 69.00 for the tire. I read all the pros and cons and im still a bit leery but for the price ill give it a fair try. Guy at work put over 25k on his CT on his GW and does the dragon regularly. Since im not a twisties king of guy this may work for me.
  15. The Dunlop web page shows an Elite 3 front tire is now available for a MK1; Elite 3 MR90-18H part# 4079-84 Can anyone verify this is correct before I order one from MotorCycle SuperStore?
  16. I was out riding to a friends house last Saturday felt something like a rock under the rear tire after that nothing smooth ride all the way up to 80+. I get near my friends house slow down to around 40 and I start feeling thump like a flat. I pull up to my friends hous get off look at the tire give it a kick and it's solid so I figure I lost a wheel weight. We head out tearing up the road on to the highway running up 90+ and back down then out onto Route 1 in MA and stop for a Lobster roll and some seafood chowder. Finish eating and then head back to the bike and we were standing there talking and I happened to look down at my back tire.... Now has anyone else run into one like this. The tire pressuse has been kept at 40 psi and the tire has around 9,000 miles on it.
  17. Being new to the RSV world, and having done many conversions, but haven't heard back from any of the ones converted except to say WOW why did I wait!! Which is good. Now if it was a Goldwing I know which tire works good, better, and best. However for the Venture, I don't have a clue ( Yet ) The tires on the bike when I got it were new, so it will be a while ( I hope ) before I need another. It is a Continental Conti. What I am asking is: What tire on the front of the Venture is considerer the best for the Trike. Is there size change Etc: There isn't too much found in the search.
  18. I have a 08 venture and I am starting to feel a wobble in the front and more so at lower speeds. I am going to have to replace the tire by the end of the season since it has 15000 miles on it now and starting to look like it. I'm taking it in to the dealer and have them look at it but I like to be prepared for them to look at things. I also would like to know how you know if the rear shock is bad? The rear end is feeling funny and it feels like the rear tire slips and has a few time and it's a E3 with only 8000 miles on it. The queen says she thinks it rides different but can't put her finger on it. Thanks for any info:95:
  19. Another dumb question but i'm tired of searching online... I'm still figuring all this stuff out about this new (to me) 84venture. I need a new tire. No bike shops in my town...blah blah blah... SO: when shopping for a rear tire...What size should I be looking for and what should I expect to spend for the tire and install (on average). thx y'all a
  20. Anyone have any idea how long Ride On last in a tire? If the tire is not removed should it be okay or is this designed to be replaced before the tire wears out?
  21. Yesterday while contemplating my 1st Gen to do list I realized that it was about time to do a another tear down. The todo list as it stands now: Fork seal replacement............Again Front tire replacement..........Again Probably rear tire too Avon Venoms this time Might as well replace brake pads..........Again Body part replacement customization and repair....Again Change up the paint Job............Again Intake O-ring seal leak 2 cylinders Re-synch Carbs New Diaphrams on sliders Valve clearence pad check & replace (really dreading this one but RandyR said he would help) Replaceing rear crash bars and trailer hitch with new ones new mufflers Accent lighting rewire. So, I was reiterating the list to a buddy over a happy hour drink yesterday when he offered for me to come get his 2nd Gen Midnight Venture and ride it while my bike was down. Now that's a friend for you.
  22. frankd's post has got me a little spooked about this so I'm going to run it up the flag pole for ideas. My 03 roadstar has developed a front end vibration that feels almost like a grinding. It's only there when the bike is straight up and moving around 30 mph. If I lean at all, the vibration goes away. I recently put on new Pirelli tires, about 300 miles before the vibration started. In looking at the tire I don't see anything obvious that would cause it. I checked all the calipers and the axle when I changed the tire. I'm concerned that something is going bad in the wheel. It seems like it's getting worse, but I may just be looking for it. Any ideas?
  23. Tore the rear of the bike off for maintenance and look what I discovered- a crack in one of the grooves in the middle of the tire. Just installed last year right before the Int'l Rally. Warranty issue?
  24. Picked up a factory compressor and suspension controller to add to my VR Std. What's the capability of these units to fill a tire in a roadside repair? Rather than trying to hook the hoses to the existing fork and shocks permanently I'm thinking of just having a hose with a schrader valve to do triple duty. Manual shock air up and emergency roadside repair. I carry a small cigarette lighter compressor now but it's pretty lame and takes up space.
  25. 1ST LET ME SAY. I need a new rear tire....I corner the hell out of my bike. I am under 200#. My 800# 87VR "sport bike" is set w/30 psi in the rear suspension W/PROGREESIVE SPRINGS FRONT AND REAR.. . The SIDE STAND AND CENTER stand tabs are worn to nubbs. The saddlebag trim is now trimmed to a unique shape. Get the idea? I cannot find any info on this tire being USED by us 1st Gen. riders? I love the handling of the Avon's. But now the cracking issue is not going away. I am considering the Commander. I had Dunlops in the past and they do NOT provide the "feedback" I need while cornering. SO I need a great handling rear tire that give me feel, aka feed back in the corners...NOT AVON, NOT E3's. Does anyone have some 1st hand, 1st gen info, feedback? And what's the max. PSI for the commander rear tire? What mileage life should I get? I got 10k out of the Venom rear. Any ideas, info or suggestions are much appreciated.
