  1. Hi, My '84's starter clutch is a real problem when the bike is cold, like first thing in the morning, but not so much when the bike is warm from a run or has been sitting in the sun at quitting time. Is this a common failure mode? (I have the part, just no time to install it) Thanks, Brian H. Uxbridge Ont
  2. Friend of mine sent this to me today - enjoy. You've got to watch the underpants flag to judge when to open the parachute :-) FUN!! Subject: A game to waste your time (but you can relax!) Click here: PARACHUTE JUMP
  3. I am considering this led brake/taillight but would like to replace the red cover with a clear one that will match the turn signals. I have searched but I am having a hard time finding a clear lens for my 05 RSV. Anyone know where I can find one?
  4. Planning on a vacation the first week in August and doing a tour from Buffalo through PA. Looking for the right roads to take, nice roads to ride, places to see, people to meet, places to eat, places to stay (not for free), places to avoid. Do want to spend some time in Lancaster and area. Any ideas would be welcome. We'll leave Monday am and want to be back by Sunday pm.
  5. I recall reading somewhere where someone said (jokingly) ... "if you follow a group of Harley riders long enough, you'll pick up enuf pieces to build your own". I went one further with this with my son (he rides an '03 Sportster) and said, "if I follow my son long enuf, I'll return home riding a Harley" (love givvin the kid a hard time). Yesterday, we're out for a ride and I'm following him and...... all of a sudden he's pulling over... I come up beside him and he's cussin big time... "what's wrong"... my MIRROR! he screams .... I look and it had vibrated so much that it just snapped off somewhere in the middle!! He's had more things come loose and fall off that bike... LOL
  6. Yesterday a group of us did what turned out to be a marathon day ride. 350 miles thru Lake Tahoe and the California Sierras. I started Saturday at 0730hrs and finally parked the scoot at 2000hrs. I didn't have a chance to check mpg until tanking up in Tahoe. Between Tahoe and traveling some of the crookedest roads in the US.. I put on a lot of agressive riding...my chicken strips are gone.. Lots of 2nd,3rd, 4th gears. Rarely got into 5th. R's between 3K and 6K. I traveled 153 miles and used 2.8 gallons. 50+ MPG!! The only thing I can figure is it must be the something in the air. The last time I got 50+ was VWIII in Susanville and the Sierras. Most of the time running on the slab at 70 I average around 38-39. Go figure???
  7. I'm looking for someplace to but the small pouches that strap on to the passenger handholds besides Yamaha. I thought there was another thread a long time ago, but I can't find it! Thanks in advance Kenw

  11. Found out by surprise when I went in for a can of S/F that its on sale almost half price for the month of June in Ontario CAnada. Time to stock up! Pass it on. Cheers, Brian H. Uxbridge Ont
  12. OK folks...some of you may remember that last fall I had posted my plans to do a group purchase of Edset's Headsets. After he told me that he was coming out with a new Third Generation product, I decided to wait. Not only that but to be honest, I've tried a lot of headsets. J&M high and low ends, AirRider which are considered high end and EXPENSIVE, etc. etc. Regardless of if I paid a LOT or just a little, I have never been happy with what I got. So, I have really been on the fence about spending $200.00 for another set that would leave me wanting more. Last week I broke down and ordered a set of Edset's. They came in yesterday and I found time to put them in today. I've got to tell you folks, I think we have a winner. These have the best sound that I have heard from any that I've tried. Bass is pretty good and the music is very clear. Haven't tried them yet for communications but to be honest, that was the least of my concern. I've found that most are fine for communications. He did tell me that the biggest complaint that he gets from new customers is that the mic is sensitive and he has to explain to people that you need to turn down your intercom with these because they don't require the volume that others do. Now here is what I REALLY like about these. They are completely modular. If a speaker goes bad, you unplug and replace it. If the mic goes bad, you unplug and replace it. All connectors for the upper and lower cords are gold plated also. But what I REALLY like is the fact that on the back of the module is a 1/8" speaker jack. You can even buy these without speakers if you want to and plug your earbud speakers into the module. I bought the speakers but also plan to try them with some good earbud speakers. I think it will work GREAT. You can also plug an IPOD or other MP3 player into that same jack if you wish. These are just very versatile. That jack would be a great option for you first gen riders who don't have an auxiliary input. So, I am planning to order another set for my wife's helmet and if there is any interest, I can put together a group purchase at this time. Price will depend upon what you want but the set I bought for an open face helmet with RCA microphone, speakers and speaker pouches came to about $210.00. I think I could get that down to about $180.00 plus shipping if I order 10 or more sets. I would have them all shipped to me and I would cover that shipping. Then to you would probably be about $7.50 or so in the USA. I will have to get a shipping price for Canada. So...if you are interested... now is the time to speak up. 13. I am finally starting to catch my breath just a bit. Thank all of you so much for showing up and making the day a huge success. It seems to grow a bit each year and Eileen and I really enjoy doing this for all of you. My biggest regret is that I never have time to visit and get to know each of you the way I would like to. This thing has grown to the point that I am now going to have to try and figure out a way to organize it a bit better. V7Goose and I were talking about it late Saturday night and he had some good ideas on how I might be able to do that. We were both afraid that some of you didn't get things done to your bike that you would like to and it bothers me that any of you came with expectations of getting things done that we didn't get to. We will try to do better in the future. I think that if we get organized and started earlier in the morning, get some lanes set up for different jobs and just generally organize it better, we can be much more productive. It would be great to get everything done earlier in the day and then actually have time to do a nice group ride to cap things off. At any rate, I had a lot of fun and hope that you did to. I hope that us catering the lunch was OK with everybody. We have always cooked hamburgers and etc. in the past but it's just getting too big for that to be practical. I actually went riding yesterday. GaryN is still here in the Space Shuttle so he and I jumped on the bikes yesterday and got a couple of hundred miles in. It was a bittersweet evening as he sincerely felt that he needed to go back and visit the site of his accident. We did that and he was even able to meet with one of the paramedics that was on the scene of the accident. Like I said, it was a bittersweet ride but something that Gary felt he really needed to do in order to continue the healing process and was another step in finding some closure. Even with that, we found some nice back country roads and it was a great ride. I am thankful that I was able to do this with him and felt very honored that he asked me to accompany him. Now it's time to get back to work. STILL not sure where I'm going this week and have about decided to not leave until late this evening or even early tomorrow morning. Sorry I got so behind with my emails and PMs but am about to get caught up now. Again, thanks to those of you who attended, I hope you all had a nice time and now it's time to start planning for NEXT YEAR.
  14. Has anyone orderd a Carbtune Pro lately and had it on backorder? I ordered one last week from California Sport Touring and it is on 2-3 week delivery (backorder). I'm just wondering if this is a realistic time frame...
  15. Ok folks let's get a heads up here on who's going to Freebirds on Saturday? 1. Who's going to go in the morning and come back that evening? 2. Time & place to meet up for the ride down? I think this will depend on who's going where we meet so I'll hold off on suggesting a location till we see who signs on here. Larry Posted time & location on post #11
  16. Any earlybirds yet...............wish I was there...........got to work tomorrow instead.......Yall have yallselves a gr8t time..!!!! Who gets the prize for 1st arrival at M/D.
  17. Ron had a surprise for me this weekend. We went to a Harley open house. We ran into some old friends there, who have been Harley owners for years. We wound up looking around at all the new Harleys and went on a test drive. We had so much fun, I guess we got caught up in the moment. The dealer took us in the back of the shop and showed us an 07' Ultraclassic, that had just been repossessed , it was beautiful. It was the two tone red color that we have always loved. White walls, extra chrome and a deluxe CD player. I do not know what happened after that. My mind is a bit foggy. All I know, is we signed up to buy this bike and they took our RSV in trade. I know this is a shock to some members here, and including me too, but I guess you really do not always know someone, even if you have been married for 35 years. It turns Ron has always really wanted a Harley and he decided it is now or never. I will still be on here from time to time just to keep up with what is going on with everyone. I have made what I would consider some good friends here just from being on chat almost every night. I cannot say I am not sorry to give up our RSV, because I really did love it, if it is okay to love a motorcycle. I wanted to come to the Maintenance Day this year, to get to finally meet some of you in person. I still want to come, but I guess it will depend upon Ron. These are the sacrifices I guess a woman has to make to keep her husband happy.
  18. I have Winders running using boot camp, but really don't like the idea of rebooting all the time to switch. Has anyone loaded Parallels and does it run well? I have 2 iMacs and I want to load it on both. ! is a 20" with 1gb and a 24" with 2gb. Wondering if the 1gb will run well with both os running at the same time. I just notced that Apple is now selling VMWare Fusion also.
  19. BO DIDDLY, passed away this morning, at the age of 79. he was one of the few, who were a legend in their own time. R.I.P. just jt
  20. After 5 hours of brake bleeding, battery cable change-outs, etc. last night---ending at 2am, got up this morning, looked her over and went "Self-it's time to see what she's got". First thing I learned that without a windshield, you gots to have a helmet on!!!!! Had to take my glasses off because of the wind, but at 65 you still can't see!!!! Got the helmet, took off around the corner, got in the straights, and lit it up!!!!!!! Absolutely smooth thru the power, only took it up to 6k on the tach for right now, NO problems with several hard runs thru 2nd gear, extremely smooth ride up to 85 mph. Gonna have my neighbor check the synch, then start putting her clothes back on!!!! BTW, sitting in my neighbors driveway, what rode by but a beautiful new Black Cherry RSV!!!!! Chased him down (didn't take long). Come to find out, he's always ridden a Venture (84, 87, 89 and a 99)!!! He didn't know about the website, so look for another Central In. rider to appear on here!!!!!! Time to get back to work!!!! Dan
  21. Jeannie will be coming HOME early next week. the Dr.s on her team, have determined that her heart is TOO weak and fragile, to undergo any type of surgery. she told the social worker, when asked about a nursing home:"hell no! i know what you people will do.you get me in there, then won't let me out, and then the next thing i know, you'll take my house!" at any rate, she will be here, with me, until her time gets short, then they will send out "hospice people" to keep her comfortable, 'till, her time runs out. and now , words fail me. i can't thank ALL of you enough for the support and prayers. just jt
  22. I was up at another great rolling thunder this year. I saw many RSV and TD in the parade this year. I also saw the one and only 'Beer30' pulling the BeerCart. I wish I could have found him after but I couldn't. I even walked over to the ball fields where they were having everyone park. Well it was another great time and I hope to be able to make the Asheville gathering to finally meet some of the great folks here at Venturerider. Everyone Ride SAFE. theKid
  23. hi all had a great time at kbay's (kreg & janet) yesterday. bbq was alsome. was nice to out in the country again. i was also lucky to give a young lady her first m/c ride. at first she was scared about going. but ponch (david) rode along with the girl's mother. as we started around the block (about 5 miles or so). she started smiling and enjoying the ride. as we got back to kbay's she told me (let's go again). her mom told her (see i told you you would like it ) we did after a short break this time she rode with ponch and i took my daughter with me. took her around the block one more time. she asked me to go farther and faster. had a great time visiting and talking eating and talking. my wife got to meet everyone for the first time. she got to put faces with handles and names. she normaly does't come along 'cause of our 13 y.o. daughter. she and my daughter had a geat time thanks again kreg & janet best reguards/ride safe remember the reason for the hoilday don c.
  24. I picked up a new battery for the 84 this evening on the way home from work. I filled the cells with the supplied acid to the top level mark and started a 2 amp charge with my Black & Decker Smart Charger I bought 3 years ago. After about 1 hour the charger full charge lamp came on. I said no way this should take 12-16 hours so I reset the charger and tried again. After 5 minutes the charger kicked out and showed full again. This time I replaced it with my heavy duty Napa charger and set it for 2 amps automatic. So far its still charging and some time tomorrow I should get a fully charged indication. I noticed over the winter months that Smart Charger would kick out and show a fault indication on a low battery in my scoots. I guess it's cooked.
  25. Has anyone ever noticed the warning light to start blinking when you are really cranking it up? I'm not over revving the motor, just winding her out through the gears to around 75-80 mph. As soon as I back off it stops flashing. The first time I saw it I thought my stand was coming down. Any suggestions? Thanks, P.S. it doesn't do it everytime
