  1. Who would be a source for an apparently Odd bolt thread tap. I'm looking for a M12 x 1.25 thread pitch and evidently it is not popular enough to be included in any of the tap and die sets I have been able to find so far. I have already checked Sears, Harbor Frieght, Northern Tool and NAPA.... No luck
  2. what would be the best way to keep a thread active without being annoying?? alright I've got my helmet on and ready for battle, LOL
  3. I have to hit preview for this new thread post. But cannot do any "REPLIES" on other threads?
  4. Can't seem to find a thread on this. Does anyone use engine ice as their coolant in the RSV?
  5. I started a thread about the number of American's who use food vouchers (over 43million) and the thread has "disappeared". Just wondering if it was due to the subject of the thread itself or comments made. When a thread is deleted... do the moderators send the offender or the OP a message saying why it was removed? I hope it wasn't what I had posted but am curious as to why the thread was deleted. I certainly wasn't trying to start something but was surprised by the number of people/families in the U.S. that depend on food vouchers just to get by.
  6. I'm sure any of us that do some of own work on things, mechanical, woodworking etc have had a day when nothing goes right. Well I have had like 2 weeks of this. It started a couple weeks ago I was working on the bike wiring in a headlight modulator. Somehow I blew a fuse. Then putting the fairing back together, that took a couple times to get everything happy. Then a few days later I attemted teh lowering of the front end forks. When back together the handle bars seemed askew to the right. So a day or so later I took it all apart and redid it. The first time I couldnt get the forks to "slide" up so I had to take the wheel off. So you see where this is going right? Nothing is easy. So today I decided to change the plugs in the wifes Durango. I mean heck it only has like 110K on the orginals. So left bank goes OK. First one on the right bank is really tight comming out. So I do the a little out, then back the other way. About 4 or 5 into this program and "snap" @!#$% I'm thinking I broke of the porclen no biggy right? WRONG it snapped off the bolt part of the plug. I have the entire insulator and electrode everything but the threads and the washer flat part that seats. HMM what now. So I calls a friend @ the Dodge house, his suggestion is an ez out. Well I thought of this but was hoping they had something.... well a little more refined. So I did thru the tool box find the ez outs but the dang things all have square drives. And of course all I have is mainly six point sockets. So off the the store to get 1ea 12 point 10mm. So now I tap the ez out in. I have sprayed several liberal shots of liquid wrench at it hoping to relive some of the corrision. I carefully wind out the troublesome piece. It was a bugger bear all the way out. Should I have expected anything else with the luck I have had lately? Certainly not. Finnaly get the bottom part out and look at the threads, argh the last couple on the plug look like crap. I blow out the hole and try to look but heck its a foot below in a hole. Well maybe the new one will thread in. I have the new plug in a piece of 8-10" long fule line to thread in. No go, should I be suprised? Well as luck would have it the spark plug chaser I have aint right, go figure. It probably went to a ford or something I had 20yr ago. lol So off to the store again for thread chaser. The rest of teh job goes OK and the job is done. But man I'm scared to ride with the way my luck has been the last couple weeks. I think I have put probably 100+ iles on the car/bike/truck in the last 2 weeks or so running up to Autozone or Sears or Advance. The to auto parts places aint but maybe 4 miles one way and Sears is maybe 7 one way. I sure hope I have used up my bad luck.
  7. Earl put together an awesome thread for balancing your Gen 1 carbs. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=56723&referrerid=11995 With Earl's permission, I took the thread and converted it to a PDF. I also put the pictures with the appropriate text. This gives you a document that you can easily print out and follow step by step. I was able to balance my carbs in less than 30 minutes and now that I have done it once, I'm sure that I could do it in under 20 minutes. Thanks Earl! Ray
  8. Help, can not find information on how to start a poll to a thread I started. i do not see where to even start the poll. Sux getting older. Thanks for any help.
  9. OOPS... This is a duplicate of something that has already been posted. Sorry, I'm slow Original thread is here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=66162 http://gl1800riders.com/forums/showthread.php?304851-I-modified-my-Wing-cat-is-out-of-the-bag&p=3593586&viewfull=1#post3593586 http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a343/Zackybilly1/Wing%203/Wings160.jpg I saw a picture of this bike from the Last ride of the year, and I really thought the instrument panel was just sorta something for looks, kind of a steampunk bit of stuff... Nope.. its all real. FLIR camera, 3 gps's, Rider A/c and heating, all sorts of mad skills went into this .. the build thread is interesting it starts here http://gl1800riders.com/forums/showthread.php?304851-I-modified-my-Wing-cat-is-out-of-the-bag Like it or not , props to this guy's mad building skills.
  10. For those not familiar with the above title, the magazine is the official publication of the Iron Butt Association. Many times riders, particularly those on Long Distance rides, need to stop and rest. This may be for a whole night, a few hours or even just a 30 minute nap. While hotels and motels are favorite, there are times when that option is not necessarily the preferred one and people take all sorts of opportunities to grab a few winks. I am collecting stories and anecdotes and, in particular, high res. pics, of bikers, their bikes and any unusual situations they have slept in. Hence the comments in the other thread re: Hammocks. If you have a story you wish to share, and if you have any decent pics of a "resting" moment that you wouldn't mind being published, could you please share them in the thread below. Thanks.
  11. Don I didn't know how to delete thread. Found Progressives for 65 bucks but 15 bucks shipping is high for them. Posted thread before I looked at shipping. Don't know if I would pay that much. http://www.ebay.com/itm/83-93-YAMAHA-Venture-Royale-Progressive-Suspension-Front-Fork-Springs-Kit-/400267987146?hash=item5d31d4c8ca&item=400267987146&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr
  12. Was there a thread about 2 weeks ago about getting a ride up for the Keys some time in the early spring???? If so, who do we need to get in touch with?
  13. OK so I have the red warning light flashing and the battery icon lit. PO said it was cuz he installed an aftermarket "maintenance free" battery which does not accept the sending unit for electrolyte level. Read the thread explaining how to bypass with a resistor. Tried both 1k ohm and 2.2k ohm resistors with no success. Ayone have any other suggestions?
  14. There was mention of starting a new thread dealing with Ponch and his progress by one of our members. I thought this was a pretty good idea and after talking with the moderators, who thought it also a good idea we will implement it here in this thread. Freebird had a good point as many folks have the initial thread subscribed in case someone posts something up. That is valid also and what I will do is leave a link on that thread to this one. I will post updates here so folks can see whats going on. I will make this one a READ ONLY thread, this way we don't get to the point of the other thread with 10's of thousands hits and several hundred responses. I will also let folks know of updates in the original thread and y'all can post to that one. I am going to post updates from when we were 1st able to see David. Again Thank You ALL for your continued support and prayers for David and Kathy
  15. Any chance of having the "quick reply" option I've often seen on sites like these at the bottom of every thread so I don't have to click "reply" at the end of a thread in order to reply? Just makes life much easier and I really use it a ton if it's available.
  16. I'm trying to find the thread from a few weeks ago of that cop riding the timed course. Anyone got that link
  17. cannot post replies on any forum thread. AM I BEING PUNISHED? Cursor never pops up. But can post this new thread>>>
  18. At just about the exact same time Taters was picking up her new toy, I was doing the same thing!! Yes, we each knew about both of them. As was stated in the other thread, let the chroming begin... Taters, good luck keeping that black beast looking shiny!
  19. I have enough commitment and 6 payments already in hand to definitely proceed with the Ignitech module group purchase. Original thread with some more details linked below. Please note this thread has reference to a used MAP sensor which is not going to be the case (will include new MAP sensor) & price adjusted to reflect new unit. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=62223 I am doing this in conjunction with the VMaxForum.net group. I will order the TCI's Sunday night, so I need commitment by then. You will get following: Pre programmed new, version 80 Ignitech module (warranty by Ignitech) A revised program that is much better than what Ignitech is supplying. Adapter harness for either a 1983-1989 Venture or a 1990-1993 Venture, plug & play & matching program in TCI. A new 1 bar GM MAP sensor and wiring connector properly connected to Ignitech harness. All documentation and original files from Ignitech along with any useful info I have collected on a CD. Marine grade velcro to attach TCI & MAP sensor. Small tube of dielectric grease. I am trying to find some 3/16" vacuum hose, but is rare apparently, at least locally. All TCI's for the 1983-1989 will be tested on my bike. I cannot start the 1990-1993 TCI's due to coil differences, but I can program module. Cost is $248 including USPS Priority shipping to US addresses. I will send anywhere, but shipping will be more. Ignitech also has a series of connectors that are a match for some on the Ventures and if any are wanted I will get them along with TCI. Ignitech main thread (extensive) is linked below. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40414 I don't know if this group buy will be done again, due to the number of units I need to get at a time to make it feasible. Gary
  20. If you plan on coming to Vogel this year this is must reading for the safety of your bike. I dont know if a gremlin bell would help you in this case. The Official "I Dropped My Bike At Vogel" Thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13886
  21. There is a handful of us playing VR scavenger hunt, check out the thread below and join in on the fun. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20503
  22. Here is what I know The bulb is good. I have 12 volts on the R/Y side The RLU isnt pulling the ground down to light the bulb. Is this a common failure of the RLU? I found an interesting thread on removing/bypassing the RLU. That idea deserves some thought. When my starter switch needed cleaning, that particular device didn't tell me that my light was out anyway!
  23. Unfortunately Lonna and I aren't going to be able to make the International in Cody. Way back when last year I reserved a room there in the hopes that we would be there. I haven't cancelled this reservation yet, but wanted to offer it up to any of our members if they want to have the room. Anyone interested PM me or post on this thread and I'll make sure that when I cancell that we get your name in there. This is a 1st come 1st serve deal, so the 1 responce I get is the one that will get it. If you want to call me my cell is in my profile.
  24. I have been, on a tiny budget, preparing my 1986 Venture Royale for Long Distance riding. At the start of this thread I want to show you two of the mods accomplished. The pictures show an equipment shelf I added recemtly. This is made from 2" x 1/8" aluminum strip from Lowes. I will put a few miles on the bike to make sure the mounts will hold. If not, I'll add supports. This shelf cost less than $15 and will carry my phone, satellite radio, two GPS units and a radar detector. The driving lamp brackets are made from the same material. The lamps themselves are Walmart specials. These lamps are cheap ($18), but reviewed quite well. When I can afford it I will swap them for the Philips HID Driving Lamps. The headlight has a HID conversion, which takes care of the dip beam, the driving lamps supplement the high beams and are controlled by a separate switch on top of the brake fluid reservoir. The screen, discussed in another thread, has been cut down from 25" to 18", and narrowed considerably. http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/IMG_0639.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/IMG_0640.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/IMG_0641.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/IMG_0643.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/IMG_0642.jpg There are other mods done, and more to come and I'll add to this thread later. Meanwhile, I'll take suggestions too, and if anyone has a 5 gallon fuel cell lying around, I'll take that too
