  1. A gunman shot and killed 4 Lakewood Police officers today as they were sitting in a coffee shop. http://www.charter.net/news/read.php?ps=1011&rip_id=%3CD9C9D0G80%40news.ap.org%3E&_LT=UNGL_LARSDCCLM_UNEWS Even having spent almost 20 years as a Federal Agent, I will never understand that kind of mentality....
  2. The wife and I took the Venture and her 1100 Vstar over to Leakey to do the 3 Sisters ride. Left Houston on Thursday, the weather just turned great with the temps. Spent Friday & Saturday riding around the area. First time there, will be going back for sure. Wife did some riding on her bike, but mainly we rode 2up. Stayed at the D'Rose cabins in Leakey for motorcycles only. No TV and no cell service, it was great. Lot of bikes out riding, but only seen one other Venture, it was at the Lost Maples State Park, a Texas Park Ranger (Richard) had a 05 Silver. He seen us drive thru and tracked us down. Spent about a hour chatting with him, pointed him to the VR site to check it out. Spending today cleaning the bikes, must have collected thousands of butterflies on the ride. We are now waiting for November ride to Big Bend, can't wait.
  3. OK... I am SERIOUSLY considering buying a 2003 Midnight Venture. Wow it sure looks good. I have loved my '83 Standard and the '88 Royale that I have now. Unfortunately, if I get the '03 the '88 will have to go. I have never spent any time on a 2nd generation machine. Those of you that have made the jump... and any others with an opinion... what are your thoughts on this move?
  4. Some do, some don't. For me, way out in the sticks, it takes a half day ride and and extra 30 bucks for the pair. Since I spent almost 300 on premium rubber, maybe i should. i thank you as i am a nubie dumbxxx.
  5. Dale bought these at the rally in one of diamondr's silent auctions.......he would need to lower his exhaust to install them and doesnt want to do that........ they are in real good shape.......they do have some dings etc on the bottom part that doesnt show....they were used when he bought them. I believe we have all the hardware and wiring etc that goes with them..... He just wants to get his money back he spent on them.....$130 plus whatever it costs to ship them to you. I believe they sell for $420 new. Here is a pic from diamond r's website of new ones http://www.diamondraccessories.com/yamaha/proddisplay.php?name=RSV/RSTD%20LED%20Saddlebag%20Light%20Bar
  6. Just spent 3 nights in a cabin in Pigeon Forge. Tonight were in a cabin at the KOA East in Asheville. We spent a couple hours in Cherokee before heading north up the Blue Ridge Parkway. We had planned the next 3 nights to be a camping adventure tent style up the parkway. Just had a hard rain here and all the rain at night has changed my mine.MaMamo is rarely in a good mood dry so don't get her wet.We got the kids and the dog along next stop Rocky Knob Virginia up the parkway about 225 miles north.Later

    Music

For all of you which are interested, check out the old videos of the great rock bands on youtube. I just spent time listening to Black Oak Arkansas, Bachman Turner Overdrive, etc... It was fun to listen.
  8. Has amy one found a good way to clean the fins on the moter? Any products that you can spray on & wash off that work? or what kind of brush works well? I to have spent a lot of money on things that don't work! "THANKS"
  9. Just wanted to thank the members of the forum and the moderators. I've had my 03 RSV for a week, have received plenty of great information here and gladly paid my dues. This bike had been popping headlight fuses almost daily. I had started taking the normal diagnostic paths of disabling external devices, tracing power leads for accessories, still the popping fuses. Carrying an allen key and box of fuses in my pocket was the norm. Before going down the path of a more detailed diagnoses or takign it to the dealer, I decided to do a search on "headlight" here and stumbled across a problem that seems to plague many who have the added passing lamp kit; pinched wires in the steering head stop and that is my problem! Repired the connection, wire tied it back and problem solved. Again, thank you all for your contributions to the site. Without, I may have spent many more hours and dollars on this one. Andrew
  10. Believe it or not it seems that my wife and I have both stopped smoking. It has been 5 weeks so far and we are both doing great. I just put them down and havent touched one since, she started out with the patches and is almost off of them. It amazes me that I have spent so much money over the years on this. We decided to put back the money that we would have spent on smokes and do something with it so the first thing we did was buy a new set of tires for the bike. I have been wanting a set of avons so we decided to go ahead and get them before our trip to gatlinburg next month. We stopped smoking with two other couples who are our best friends, one couple is hanging in there with us and the other couple only made it a couple of hours. now my problem is that the dang dryer seems to be shrinking all my clothes again! :big-grin-emoticon:l
  11. Hey all! Well I'm back, digitally of course. I never went anywhere physically. I want to apologize for disappearing like I did for the last four months. It's amazing it's been a third of a year since I logged in here last and I feel real bad for that. I spent the last few days reading some posts trying to catch up as best I can. Read about the trip to Cody, saw the flyer and going to start working on making that a possibility. It will be the longest trip I have ever made on a bike and need to plan carefully. I read about MasterGuns putting his VR out to pasture and getting a Harley. I know no one is perfect and I'll be the first one to stand up and admit it. With all the excitement of getting my VR at the end of summer and getting my 'list' of things done to it before the Venture Rally in Athens, I got my priorites messed up. I hadn't realized I had spent almost every night and most of every weekend for over a month with the bike. Either working, riding, cleaning, staring, etc. And was not spending time with my family like I should. I realized that the best way is to just get out of the pool and get back in one step at a time. I just hadn't realized that 4 months could go by so fast. My wife is in school during the day and works nights so most of my free time is spent doing housework and taking care of our toddler. Until she finishes school and gets on a regular 8-5 job (3 more months!) I have to be careful how I spend my time. I haven't done much with the bike since the rally other than start it and take it for a quick mantenance ride every few weeks. However, I'm happy to say that this past week I spent taking every part of body work off the 88 with the exception of the rear trunk and the upper fairing/lights/electronics. I drove it up today to my mechanic in Hurst. Going to have some things taken care of that I don't have the time + know how to do. And would just simply feel better if an experienced person took care of. So, hopefully, after about 3 weeks I should have it back and in the meantime will be cleaning/polishing/JBWelding up all the body work in prep for the bike's return. I'm very excited about the comming riding season. As it will be the first one that (if things go well with the wife's job) my family should be on a regular schedule and I should have time to ride like I haven't been able to in 3 years. And my bike will be in tip-top shape to boot! I hope everyone is well. Missed all you guys and glad to be back online! Drop me a message, PM, e-mail or the finger if you like (I deserve it). -Chris "The Crimson Knight"
  12. Well...I did my first carb synch with my new Carbtune.....,and.....It was a success!!! The bike has 6300 miles on it and the carbs have never been synch'ed.What a difference...Idle is amazingly smooth and the acceleration vibration (that I thought was normal) is GONE!!!best 95 bucks I ever spent. Its like a whole new bike!! Now if only the weather would stay nice enough to RIDE IT!!! 55 degrees today...............back to the 30's tommorrow:bang head:.
  13. Have you ever wondered where the motor support brace bolt (the one that hides behind the brake reservoir) goes when you drop it while reinstalling the brace? Note to self just remove the reservoir first it makes it easier. Anyway, that bolt ends up in the radiator fan housing. It is completely invisible to the naked eye. I spent at least a half hour or so looking for it yesterday. Finally I got the bright idea to stick my hand in to turn the fan blade. As soon as I started to turn the blade I could hear that sound of metal clanking as I turned the fan. The good news is after a couple of turns the bolt fell out the bottom onto the floor. Super Bowl Sunday was spent successfully changing the spark plugs, air filters and radiator fluid thanks to all the step by step guidance provided here. The next session I plan to add the Gen Mar risers, change the gas filter and of course the oil. Come on Spring!!!!! Thanks for the help, Dave
  14. Yep, we got home Sunday night from the PIP that ended a week earlier. Denise and I spent the next 7 days wandering northern MN, nw WI, and a bit of upper MI. Looked for the least straight country roads we could find and hopped from state park to state park, geo-caching as we went. Road some beautiful country, mostly in decent weather (we got absolutely drenched once by Two Harbors, MN) on our RSV, and really enjoyed ourselves. Highlight roads included county 71 around Ten Mile Lake south of Walker, MN (new tar, lines painted, but NO signs whatever had been replaced after the ditch re-building, and the road curved and carved the hills along the lake-way fun, right Norm and Kim?), Highway 1 from Ely, MN to Lake Superior, Pierce County (WI) O from near Red Wing, MN north toward River Falls, WI, and a handful of roads that took us south from Marenisco, MI toward Woodruff, WI. We spent Sat and Sun in SE MN around the Winona area, and you could ride there for days and not run out of good roads. Wish we could have spent more time there and in SW WI, but that will have to wait for another time. Also have to echo what has been said about the PIP, great hosts, great place, great people, great food, great time. Such a diversity of people with the common interest of riding on 2 wheels, mostly Ventures. I learned a lot getting in on Maintainance Time as well. To report on the carb sync results, my mileage increased to 43-44 mpg, after having faded to the 40-41 area prior to the sync. Can't say that I can notice a difference in performance or smoothness, but the mpg's are there again. Owl, Denise made good use of the gaitors (sp) thru the week, sometimes when it was cool and they went over jeans, and sometimes when it was downright cold, and they went over everything else she had on. So thanks again. Look forward to crossing paths with all the folks at PIP again in the future. Wish we could have got to know the Canadian contingent better, but they got in about the time we were going to head to the hotel for the night on Sat (definite disadvantage for not camping on the grounds) and they were out on a group ride by the time we got there on Sunday, and hadn't returned by the time we left. That's about enough. Thanks again to Gary, Ann, Owl, and everybody for a good time. Larry:thumbsup2:

    Nice Ride

We spent the weekend on a nice ride thru the So. West corner of Pa. Anyone thinking of riding Pa ought to give this area some consideration. Took 30 west from Chambersburg out thru Laurel Highlands area, passed a few 1st gens and met 2 2nd gens at a gas station. Rt 31 is a great road as is 711 and 381. We payed our respects at the 9-11 memorial in Shanksville, it is a "moving" experience. Spent the nite at a country Inn in Ligoneer, great little rest. and pub rite on the premises. Woke up this am. had the included buffet breakfast, then headed home. Great motorcycle roads, beautiful scenery, plenty of places to stop, but no DQ:bawling:Oh yeah a friend and his wife rode along on their brand new HD street glide, nice bike! Guess which one had parts falling off?? Nope it was me, lost my shiney chrome choke knob:bawling: Craig
  16. just got back from litchfield. it was almost the ride from hell both ways. as bad of wind as i ever rode in, a little rain, and slightly cool, thought sure it looked like snow. saw one of my favorite venture riders there, roadkill. did have a good time when i got there. any one who did'nt make it, was alot smarter than me, lots of bikes, several hundred. i got hung up on this awesome goldwing that was loaded with all the bells and whistles. burgandy 2008,the sales men were all busy all day so i could'nt do any dealing. could'nt even get a price. i figure at least $23,000. fell in love with it as soon as i walked in the door. thought what a surprise that would be for my wife. figured i could leave my v-star there and drive back tomorrow and pick it up. spent a good hour and a half trying to get a price, no such luck. so i think while i'm waiting maybe i ought to sit on one just for the heck of it to see if it fits. guess what major disappointment very cramped for space. handle bars to close. no leg room, just did'nt have the best ergonomics. so i climbed on my vstar and headed for home in the wind ,$23,000 + dollars better off. good thing because my wife went to the mall and spent all my extra money for this week. fancy that. bill:2133:
  17. Hi everyone, I am new to this forum but have spent much time on the Delphi Kawasaki Nomad forum. I sold my 05' Nomad and recently loaded a 87' Venture Royale on my trailer . I really wanted a full dresser anyway! The bike belonged to a good friend of mine and has spent the last 5 years in a chicken coop gathering both dust and rust. With 79,000 miles on the odometer I added some fuel and a fresh battery, hit the start button and she fired up. Won't idle yet but is starting to smooth out.. The mufflers are gutted and covered with rust from the header pipes back. In fact most of the chrome is pitted from the chicken manure ammonia. Is there a source for a complete aftermarket exhaust system which also does away with the collector? I have all the electrics working properly except for the compressor which is more than likely a bad connection at the rear of the board . One more item in which I have not looked at closely....hard to find neutral while running , not a problem with the switch off...there is a good amount of play in all the shift linkage. Is that available? And lastly, Is there a good source for aftermarket parts for the 87' Venture like there is for the Goldwings? Oh, I live in Southern Pennsylvania.. Regards Dave
  18. ...and I have to admit I'm super impressed!! Real easy to use, love the icon, and all sorts of neat features to it!! Also glad I spent the extra for the 550 instead of the 450. Can't wait to actually use it on the bike!!
  19. FInally got the big bumblebee running today which means I finally got to get out and test out the new progressive front fork springs I put in last month. All I can say is WOW. The difference is like night and day. The bike handles better than ever. This was the best $50 I've spent on upgrades. Only downside is I now see I need to get a new set of tires soon and it looks like I should just order a case of footpegs and save the hassle.
  20. On the 19th (last night) my wife and I celebrated our 36th anniversery. We were young on our wedding date, I was 18 she was 17. We spent the night taking care of my mother (80 y/o), who just got out of the hospital after 12 days. She spent half here and half in New Orleans. I spent half the time staying overnight with her and others stayed the other time. Now I am sick. This is the first time I have been on the computer in 2 weeks. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She survived colon cancer in October 2003. She had about 20 inches of her large intesttines removed. She has gone through a lot since Feb. 1, 2002. My father died of cancer, her brother died of cancer 13 days later, my 2 older brother died and she had colon cancer. Now this. She is scheduled for a 6 hour operation on March 12th to remove part of her pancreas, part of her small intestines, part of her stomach, part of her douedum (not sure of spelling), and the mass that is wrapped around them and blocking the bile duct. This procedure is called the Whipple, ask a doctor. A guy at Ochsner Hospital is doing it as he is one of 2 gurus there that do it. Not a whole lot anywhere that do it. All of this depends on if it has spread to the blood vessels or other organs. If it has they will just close her up. Give up a minute to pray for her if you will, I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks lyle
  21. Front lighting on a budget. I like other drivers to see me at night and day! They are not the RSV classic look and add nothing to value of bike. I spent only $35 on these from WalMart. Mounted on front side reflector brackets (removed reflectors) and fork shield brackets.
  22. Here is a URL that was sent to me by one of our members. I have spent some time there before and many of you may have also but if not and you are interested in classic bikes, there is some good stuff. http://www.dropbears.com/bikelinks/Classic_Motorcycles/
