  1. I've read thru the posts and still need some direction. i have an 07 rstd i purchased the Yamaha passing lamps and bar. I've got everything apart and have difficulty trying to push the stock turn lamp onto the special bolt supplied with the kit. here are the measurements - the o.d. of the special bolt supplied in kit (which the stock pass lamp is supposed to slide over) is .792 and the i.d. of the pass lamp is .772.....that is 20 thousands and i can tell you it ain't gonna fit without some grinding. i cannot believe yamaha expects the end users to have to grind or do machine work to make this fitment. anybody out there got any ideas? thanks, buz
  2. Its in New Hampton Iowa. There was a place there for "The Venturers" and i think that having a special location like that would be a really great idea! We'll see what we can cook up:witch_brew:
  3. I have stated elsewhere on this site, my affection and appreciation for all the Veterans out there. This post is special appreciation for another Veteran I know very well. She’s not a combat vet, but she did serve during the Viet Nam conflict for 4 years as a USAF medic. She worked in the Emergency Room. She worked Sick Call. She worked General Medicine Clinic. She was NCO in Charge of the Pediatric Clinic and later, the OB/GYN Clinic as well. She was and is the kind of person you always think of when you think about true heroes. I don’t mean the combat hardened, 3 tours under fire, Purple Heart, obvious “I was in war” kind of person. She was and is quiet & unassuming, genuinely humble and doesn’t think that doing the jobs she did, holding the positions she did was a particularly big deal….even if she was only 19-20 years old at the time. If you didn’t already know, you wouldn’t suspect that she had even been in the service. She has never been one to say much about it……Actually, if you were observant, you might pick up a distinct no-nonsense, get it done attitude, reminiscent of the type person you would expect to find in a position of authority in the military and elsewhere. She has always had the attitude “do the job, do it well!” The funny part of that is she was always driven by her work ethic and never really gave much thought to whether “rewards” would be greater or not. Of course they usually were because of that very attitude, but she didn’t hunt for them. She still has that same ethic, 40 odd years later. So, I would like to make this a special statement of appreciation for a fellow Veteran, whom I admire for those very qualities that make ordinary men and women into heroes. I truly believe that if the situation demanded it, she would be a fearsome opponent.........One like you usually think of when someone uses the term Veteran or Hero This one is both! This one happens to be my wife!
  4. (I know some here have Harley's and I have 30+ years on them myself so don't take too much offense!) I just read ediddy's thread about his trip to the H-D dealer and I got to thinking; why do Harley people act like they do? And I finally figured it out. I found this checklist online. At the bottom of the page is the title of the paper it came from. Some points don't fit but most do... The group displays excessively zealous and unquestioning commitment to its leader and (whether he is alive or dead) regards his belief system, ideology, and practices as the Truth, as law. Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished. Mind-altering practices (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, and debilitating work routines) are used in excess and serve to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s). The leadership dictates, sometimes in great detail, how members should think, act, and feel (for example, members must get permission to date, change jobs, marry—or leaders prescribe what types of clothes to wear, where to live, whether or not to have children, how to discipline children, and so forth). The group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status for itself, its leader(s) and members (for example, the leader is considered the Messiah, a special being, an avatar—or the group and/or the leader is on a special mission to save humanity). The group has a polarized us-versus-them mentality, which may cause conflict with the wider society. The leader is not accountable to any authorities (unlike, for example, teachers, military commanders or ministers, priests, monks, and rabbis of mainstream religious denominations). The group teaches or implies that its supposedly exalted ends justify whatever means it deems necessary. This may result in members' participating in behaviors or activities they would have considered reprehensible or unethical before joining the group (for example, lying to family or friends, or collecting money for bogus charities). The leadership induces feelings of shame and/or guilt iin order to influence and/or control members. Often, this is done through peer pressure and subtle forms of persuasion. Subservience to the leader or group requires members to cut ties with family and friends, and radically alter the personal goals and activities they had before joining the group. The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members. The group is preoccupied with making money. Members are expected to devote inordinate amounts of time to the group and group-related activities. Members are encouraged or required to live and/or socialize only with other group members. The most loyal members (the “true believers”) feel there can be no life outside the context of the group. They believe there is no other way to be, and often fear reprisals to themselves or others if they leave (or even consider leaving) the group. Characteristics Associated with Cultic Groups (Cults)- Revised Janja Lalich, Ph.D. & Michael D. Langone, Ph.D.[/b]
  5. I notice after i do something to my bike I read a better way to do it on the forum after i do it, so this time i'm asking. Any special tools or work arounds? should i spring for the irridim (is that like dilithium crystals?) spark plugs? Thanks
  6. A very special cat (see link) needs rescuing in Columbus. http://www.devonrexbreedclub.com/rescue2.html Devon's are very special, I should know I have two. They love people, purr like crazy and are the best bed warmers for those cold winter nights. They shed very little and many folks that are alegic to regular cats can have Devons with no ill effects. Take a look at the link , If you can help you will not be sorry. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/MickeyandI2.jpg

  8. Special Thanks go out to Gunboat, for all the help he gave me on Sunday... he will say he didn`t do anything, but he was on the concrete and he was greesy!! He helped me greese the shaft and we fumbled around for awhile before his son-in-law finally got the shaft stuck back in for us, many thanks to him also.. after that fun, we removed my woreout Venum rear tire and faught endlessly with the new CT to get it mounted, not sure what kind of air pressure we where at, but my compressor only goes to 120 so we used the neighbers and his goes to 190, I am thinking we had it at around 135 or so before the bead poped and I messed myself.. any way, we got her done. I could not have done it with out Dons help, and I am deeply endebted to him.. what a great Family we have here. Any way, I have only put a few miles on it, and I like it so far...I think I better like it, cause I am not sure if I can get it back off..LOL again many thanks to Don and his Son-in-law, sorry I can`t remember his name, but he is a great guy also!! Kreg
  9. OK,a few watched the post "Member in need of Help" where we helped out a Member from Utah with a shock problem and figured out fast we had somthing going on..Well We did! Ponch and BuddyRich cooked up an idea to get together at my house for an "Adjust Valves learning seminar maintenance day" We had this Grand Idea if we took 4-5 members and taught them how to adjust valves we could spread our knowledge with everyone else at Mini Maintenance Days in the future. Well,V7Goose Myself ,Ponch,Gunboat and GuthDaddy tackled into it. It was a successful learning experience.I now know how to adjust the valves on a 2nd Gen. I also know I am not as young as I thought I was, and seeing my bike torn down was a very TRAUMATIC experience to say the least. Also, I learned before I do it again I WILL buy a Motorcycle Jack that I can drive onto and lift it to where I can stand up and work on it! We did 4 bikes and took from daylight till dark..hope BuddyRich made it home OK. The other thing I learned is I can't see as good as I thought I could! Anyway,Thanks To BuddyRich for the special tool and expert help,V7Goose and the rest for everything. A special thanks to Ponch for making a set of gauges to put in place of my cassette player..I now have a Temp Gauge, Oil Pressure gauge and a Volt meter where the cassette player WAS! V7Goose...thanks for showing me how to set my floats..it sure is running great! 2.5 cases of beer,1/2 gallon of salsa, a case of gatorade,100 gallons of water, couple gallons of tea and 8 bottles of ALEVE was all it took to make it thru OK! Tom Next to last Picture,Goose in a heavy conversation about the Venture front forks...Last picture ONE of my dogs trying to find the squirrel that just ran up that darn tree"Im gonna get that Squirrell" little did it know it was on the other side of the tree getting an acorn out of that hole! NOTE,ADDED 2 Pictures of the Gauges at the last. Tom
  10. To loosen the handlebar bolts, there are chrome caps over each one. Does anyone have a special method to remove these caps, so as to get at these 4 bolts? Thanks.
  11. I searched but there appears to be no answer out there in VentureRiders.org land (yet). Which antifreeze should we be using? Someone told me to use a non-silicate blend and to use Honda (automobile type 2) or the Toyota long-life stuff which will prolong long the life of the water pump. I also see Yamaha has some special stuff at their usual outrgaeous prices. I have been using plain old Prestone green stuff (mix your own 50/50). What's the consensus out about antifreeze out there?
  12. For those of you that were at Marcarl's Venture In, on Saturday, May 23/09, here's an update on Mary's condition after her fall with my bike. There is no bruising, but there is some swelling. She is feeling much better, thanks to Marca's "Tender Loving Care". She is only taking regular Advil for the pain, and is putting on ice packs. She is moving around unaided on her own. She had a good sleep last night and is now resting comfortable on the couch watching TV. Thank goodness it is only a pulled hamstring on her right leg, it could've been worse. A very special thank you to Marca and Carl, Sonny, Wayne, Robin, and everyone else that were there to help yesterday with her mishap. It just goes to show you what a great, big, loving, caring "FAMILY" that Venturerider.org members really are. From Mary and I, a great big "THANK YOU" to all. Jopie...
  13. This was my 1st MD as well and I had an absolutely great time. I rode down and back with a great bunch of people, and met a great bunch of people once I got there, Many of whom I had often chatted with on chat such as yama moma ( who for some reason I thought was blonde (no pun intended)and wasn't but was definitly a warm and friendly person.Minimuffin ( who I some how thought would be taller ) An obviously fun loving person full of mischief. Lonna whos infamous cheese cakes I finally got to sample (hope I didn't cut into your action to severly Big Tom:innocent-emoticon: ) Squidly Who I found out actually only has 2 tennn ahh I mean arms' who should hire himself out as a professional MC Great job Squidly,Of course Bongobobny was there handing out spare parts a man with not just a golden bike but a heart of gold as well ,And A real big hand :dancefool:to all the guy's working on others bikes ((a special thanks to Carl (aka Marcarl) who helped me out with some of my issues)) they were all just an awsome bunch of guys. Last but not least an Extra Special thanks to Don and Eileen for all thier hospitality and efforts. It was agreat honour to finally after all these years meet you both (And Don somehow I thought you would be shorter but you are actually one tall drink of water, OOPS did I say WATER:rotfl:) ONCE AGAIN THANKS FOR EVERYTHING DON AND EILEEN:thumbsup2:
  14. This is a very important note for anyone who is planing to attend Don's maintenance day, or any other maintenance day: If you are going to do any work on your bike, PLEASE come prepared with all supplies that you might need! It is not appropriate to expect to use consumable items which the host might happen to have - and worse, he might not have what you need anyway! For example, if you are planning to change a tire, make sure you have some #0 or #00 steel wool to clean the rim bead area. I will have rubber lube and some self-stick wheel weights at Don's maintenance day, so those are the only things you can expect to not need to bring. Other things you might need, depending on what you plan on doing: wire, switches, crimp connectors, gaskets, liquid gasket material (Form-a-Gasket), spray carb cleaner/degreaser, electrical tape, oil, coolant, grease. We should ordinarily have the majority of tools needed, but if you think a special tool is needed for your job, better ask ahead of time or bring it yourself! At Don's maintenance day we will have the necessary tire changing stuff and an inch-lb torque wrench available. At this point I can't think of anything that has been talked about that will require other special tools, but ask if you are not sure. Thanx! Goose
  15. I purchased my RSV off the shop floor back in 2007. Had zero on the clock when I rode it away (solo then & a big mother!!) Apparently mine was the last new one in Western Australia AND Yamaha are not importing any more RSV's into Australia unless specifically ordered and deposit paid. No pictures, or info in the new bike sales section on line here anymore either. So, I now have a "VERY" special bike indeed:happy34: There are two others' down here in my area, and both are members' of my branch of the Ulysses Club. They have 2006 models. The only other one I've seen is a white one--so they are few and far between over here on this side of the big island.
  16. Hey North Texas Riders, there is a special first time offering of the Ride Like a Pro training class coming up the weekend of May 2/3 in Irving (not too far from the Dallas/Fort Worth airport). I'm signed up for the Saturday morning class, and it would be neat to have a bunch of other Royal Star riders there too. I just noticed that the only post about this is in the Safety and Education forum, so I thought I'd put a mention of it here in the Watering Hole to maybe get a little more attention. This course is normally only available in Houston, so this is a special opportunity for those of us further north. It is being sponsored by a special arrangement through the owner of Stadium Yamaha in Irving with the RLAP guys in Houston. The course will be held both morning and afternoons on Saturday and Sunday near 183 and Beltline Rd. in Irving. The registration does not let you specify which specific class, just the day, since they do not normally hold more than one course a day. I spoke with Jason at Stadium Yamaha, and it sounds like they are waiting to see how many people sign up before they know for sure they need all four sessions that weekend. Here is a link to the original thread, and it has a link to the RLAP home page with details and registration info: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=326304#post326304 Hope to see some of you there! Goose
  17. Do I have to worry about the YICS when synching the carbs? I looked at the tech tip and it didn't say anything about it. On the XJ11 there is a special plug that seals it off.
  18. Need info on changing brake pads on 06 RSTD.Any special tools need or special pads? Thanks
  19. Hey Duke, now where did you say the tail light bulb was? LOL I have over 40K on my 99 and there was very little grease left. BTW, anything special about fork oil? Might as well change that while I'm here. Thanks, Spotsy
  20. Would like to here peoples opinions of a bike for my daughter. She rides a yamaha 400 special now. I was looking at a suzuki boulevard c50 special. This bike looks very nice and when you sit on it, feels like there is nothing under you. For a girl that weighes maybe 110 pounds this is good. Any thoughts on other bikes. Thanks Jerry
  21. time to check in on our special thread and get back to work. see you there bill
  22. 23. I would like to take this time to wish everyone here at VentureRider.org a very Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year! This is a very special group of people who go out of their way to help out other people, and who actually live life believing that you get out of life what you put into it. I would like to send to extra special Christmas wishes to Condor, Nadine and family, DKKnight, PrincessM and family, Rocket, and Jercoupe and Yamahamabev for all the friendships and support theyve shared with me in the last year. All the Best Wishes to ALL! Brian
  24. A friend of mine just picked up one of these at Harbor Freight for $69.99 on special if anyone is intrested. Looks practical...
  25. Have you read the new Full Throttle article regarding Concerned Bikers Association's lobbying efforts to provide a helmet optional clause? It's a 3 tiered endorsement with fines and fees enclosed, including a $75.00 experienced rider validation fee annually for a special stamp to be placed on your plate so that police know you have paid to be stupid.... strike that, have paid and chosen not to wear a helmet. Among many things about this proposal...how many motorcycles do you own?.. times $75.00. I guess CBA feels that covering state hands in money will buy them the "freedom" to not wear a helmet Novice rider validation fee is a special one - time motorcycle endorsement fee of $10.00 for each plate issued. It's craziness. Let's talk. Brandy
