  1. Where is everyone getting the digital USA maps with the states colored that they have traveled in? Is there an internet site you download from?
  2. Does anyone know where I can get a drivers backrest, non studded, for a stock seat for a 08 Venture..............or do they even make such a thing? I checked Yamaha's site but couldn't find one. Any advise?
  3. been noticing alot of new folks posting on here. thats great. hope my previous post helped get a few off the fence. keep coming folks, throw in your 2 cents worth. thats what this site is all about commaraderie, and friendship. we don't care what you ride as long as you like bikes. if you need tech info we can help on most any brand. if you need help on the road there is always a venture rider close by. if you need moral support we have that to. best site and people on the net. i ride a wing and can't find a wing site anywhere with the caring people we have here. so all these folks unfortionately have to put up with me. i do have a couple of yammers where no one can see them.lol. we want to here from you. and we want you to come to our 2009 international rally at the hub in ar. what a sneaky way to plug a meet. really we want everyone there, and to participate on here. snarley bill :clap2::clap2:
  4. I saw this info on another bike site I frequent and thought it was too good not to share with everyone here. The link below will take you to a page to request a free brochure on Scenic Highways & Byways. The site is a little misleading though. http://www.volusiariders.com/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif The "brochure" is actually a 464 page guide published by National Geographic (cover price is $25.00). The guide gives a brief overview & map of the top 275 drives in the US. Not quick, but no cost, so the price is right and you'll have it all winter to browse through and plan next summer's rides. Have mine on order now, Larry http://www.byways.org/map_request.html http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/jmaxwell99/Posted%20pictures/IMG_0022.jpg
  5. Hi everyone, haven't been on for a while, been busy working on a new project that myself and 2 others guys have come up with. It's called RollingSpoke.com. It is dedicated to friends and family {the same} who ride and also Want to help others Thru hard times {sickness, injury} just drop an email to us and we will post it for free. This is a personal project that hit close to home for allot of us when one of our family is down. I hope this doesn't offend any one that I posted it here but I just wanted to get the word out to the people who do the most for anyone involved with the VentureRider.org web site. Please let me know what you think and what we can do to improve it. WWW.ROLLINGPOKE.COM Thanks Todd Hanson Vmax Thumper
  6. Can't remember if I posted this here already but if I did I apologize for the repeat. First weekend of September the weather was right and I was feeling pretty good since my quadruple bypass so I decided to take my first multi day ride with the new Wing. Road up to Montgomery and spent the night. Next morning I headed south on Hwy 26, a really nice road that I had driven back in the Spring with the bus. Got down to a town called Union Springs and as I was going through the main intersection of this small town a lady ran the red light and broad-sided me on the right. Luckily she wasn't going very fast; unfortunately she was going fast enough to break both my tibia and fiblia and dislocate my ankle. Needless to say my beautiful new Wing was torn up. I was taken to Montgomery for surgery, and long story short, I have been in a cast since. Doc says two more weeks, then we'll see. Me being a diabetic he's being very cautious with me. After a long talk with the insurance company I convinced them to total the Wing. Repair estimate was $14,000. I have received my money for the bike but purchasing another is NOT in my immediate future. After two accidents in less than a year, even though neither was my fault I am calling it quits as far as riding is concerned. I've lost two beautiful machines and my body hasn't healed/been corrected completely from the first accident. This problem really scares me and I am praying that all will heal properly. I have already replaced the bike....with a 2004 Chevy SSR. It only has a little over 15k and is absolutely immaculate. It's a convertible, which I wanted, and also a hardtop. Unfortunately I cannot drive yet and it's killing me to see it sitting in the garage. But hopefully, only 2 more weeks. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thanks to all here, especially those fine people that I have had the privelege to meet through this site. I haven't been able to attend the ride-ins and meets that I wanted to but am hoping that I can in the future. Although I am not riding now I hope you all will allow me to stay around the site. If not I understand. I still love motorcycling and would give almost anything to get on another. But I need time to heal from ALL the stuff I've had in the past year. So to all I say please ride safe. And watch out for Dodge SUVs. !!!!!!!!
  7. Today we put together about 100 bikes for a dice run. the procedes went to the family of a little girl (8 years old) to help her family pay the bills while they are with her at duke hospital. She is fighting brain cancer. During the ride I thought I was the only yamaha in the group, but at the second stop I soon realized I wasn't. The beautiful road star pulled up behind me. I got a few pics with my camera phone and will post them as soon as I figure out how to resize them. VR site says I can't upload them unless they are under a certain size and I think it is just over. Talked to the owner and his wife about the site so who knows, maybe they will come and visit us. 100 bikes and we raide approximately 3 grand for this little girl and her family. If I had to miss the saint judes ride I guess this is a good excuse. P.S. I dropped my bike coming into the parking lot. Lady in front of me moved over into my line and my choice was to hit her or hit the brakes. Needless to say I chose the brakes and then it was on. gravel doesn't make for good quick stops. no major damage just a few more scratches. Then I proceded to imbarass a few of the harleys when they decided to race the rice burner. When I went into second gear she got scarry strong and picked the front tire up. No more takers after that. I,m broke this week after the charity run but I promise I will send my $5 opps i dropped it fund in next week. David

I have been trying for several days to get into the BACA website so I can find out how to join the organization if there is a chapter in the San Antonio TX area. I cannot access the site...keep getting a time-out msg. Does anyone know if there is a problem with the site, or better yet, does anyone know who to contact in my area? Appreciate any help.

I DON'T WISH TO OFFEND ANYONE OR BE BOOTED FROM MY FAVORITE SITE.
  11. Jeff was looking for a tire for the sidecar and found this site. Figured maybe someone might like this car. Here's the site. Not too bad looking has a trunk too. It's made for Harleys but should look good on the second gens. http://www.spaldingside.com/index.html Margaret
  12. linda and i rode to hannibal mo. today and on the way stopped to visit some very good friends and 2 of the finest people we have ever met. brian and michelle wegon. brian has not been on here for almost a year and several of us members were deeply worried about them. they are fine, and i hope brian will again become a regular on the site. we love them and miss them. bill
  13. So I'm wondering what the possibilities for a VentureRider Podcast might be. We could record and post a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly podcast on the site, hosting it offsite if need be. ( Anyone with a NAS drive or webhost willing to donate some space?) Topics could include modifications, issues, performance, favorite rides, meetNeats, ride-ins, chatroom audio, moderator interviews, trailering, sidecars, whatever. Maybe even get some site sponsors in on this? First, we would need permission from Freebird of course, but then, if we could put together some podcasts, would yall listen to them? How about a call-in show? I'd love to interview some of the regulars on here, but podcasts can be produced by almost anyone with the desire and a computer. You could carry along a digital recorder or even a microcassette recorder, and interview each other, or record some audio about your trips, events, or weekend projects. Its easy enough to digitize and store on a server somewhere. I see a diverse bunch of members on here who I'd like to listen to as well as read about. Ok...built-in audience...guinea pigs, technology...we got it all. Input, anyone?
  14. Hi folks, Just wanted let everyone know in case someone out there has been looking for a good deal on some of these. I put it in the classifieds under second generation on this site just to let ya'll know about them, after I listed them on EBay. Sorry I didn't know you could auction stuff on this site. I'm knew to this, in case you hadn't already figured that out! Anyway I'm selling a set of Baron's 4-2-4 Nasty Boys that I just took of my '05 RSV that I bought about two months ago. The ad just posted on EBay today if you're interested, under motorcycle parts and accessories.
  15. Well as many of you know my wife aka MOM had total hip replacement about 2 months ago. She is up and around and thinking she is indestructable LMAO. Shes back to work and riding her little scooter all over town. Shes doing pretty good. AND she quit smoking! Even better! I have made up another site with trip pics, trip stories, mom's random photography, rants, biker products ( I have gotten a ton of stuff from businesses wanting me to write reviews for the Magazine) etc...Its a work in progress. BE WARNED: IF YOU ARE THE OVERLY SENSITVE TYPE YOU SHOULD AVOID THE SITE! http://vikingwarhorse.webs.com/ Its just me being me.
  16. I wanted to let you all know about a salvage site that I belong to that has a 2003 Venture up for auction. Its a 2003 and its black. It does look like an easy fix and it seems like (from the pictures) that the owner but some money into it with extras. The name of the site is "RideSafely.com". Their main office is in Pa.. I did buy an Electra Glide thru them a few years ago (wreck) and was very satisfied with their service. Please don't think that I'm endorsing them but you may find the bike that you've been looking for here Josh
  17. When I move the cursour over a post it normally opens a little block that lets me see the first couple lines of a post. It does not seem to work anymore. IS it the site or my computer ? If my ciomputer what do I do to fix Brad
  18. This is a great deal on some auxillary lights. I just ordered a set for an 87 Concours I bought. You have to phone in your order, they are having problems with their web site. http://www.rallylights.com/Optilux/optilux_1500.asp
  19. Anyone know what the numbers are for sealed bearings for the front wheel? I dont want to buy new unsealed ones from the local stealer at $40.00 each and I hip I can find some at NAPA that will work. UPDATE: Arrgh I asked this here before, I though it was on that "other" site... anyways, to make this useful for others..... 303SS and 6303S http://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/prt,118,303SS -- for the part at rock auto. I just got 2 of them for the price that NAPA wants for 1.
  20. Was wondering if anybody new the site for the goldwing version of venturerider.org Thanks:Venture:
  21. anybody know a good v-star tech site, so far the ones I've found seem pretty excited to be able to change their own oil. My buddy's 1100 got some serious elec issues. I think we might have to replace the enitre main wiring harness but that sounds pretty spendy so were trying to pin out each cable. need a better wiring digram for the cables themselves.

  23. Hello All, I'm new to the world of Ventures and need some info. I see here on the site references to "first" and "second" generation Ventures. I'd appreciate some clarification on the terminology. I suspect it's purely the year model ranges, but not sure. Also, Is there a site or post that provides some history of the development of the Venture in its various models to help me follow the differences between them. My bike is an '06 Midnight Venture, but I have no idea whether it's a Royal Star, a V-Star, or any of several other somewhat nebulous names. I thought I'd bought a Yamaha, but I seem to get the impression that there's a grey area here that I'm not familiar with. Help me! Thanks
  24. Well, I've been around here (forum) since about Oct,Nov. of the year Don started this site. I picked up my '05 the next month (Dec). Been thru the site crash, changed my forum name, traveled to the the Dragon Rally in Georgia once. But most of all I've enjoyed the wealth of knowledge I've gleamed, and the general tone of the site. Good people, good times. Aside from the very occaisional religious or political BS...it's a good place to come daily and read casually some interesting things. Preamble said, the wife and I are taking off this sat. from here in Tenn. headed east, taking a leisure trip to the coast of NC up thru DC to NY then back. All the way will be impromtu and spur of the moment. Take it as it comes trip. 2 weeks of cruising the highways, byways and mostly back roads. If you see the Silver '05 w/ black piggybacker tooling down the road, don't hesitate to wave, shout or cry out. We'll be moving from Tenn. up to the NW (seattle area) after the first of the year. New job will take me to Switzerland for a time....house needs to sell (keep fingers crossed), and then the new page of our life starts. I'm so looking forward to this trip.....wish it was longer, but I'm figuring co-pilot will need a pressure washer to get the 10 pounds of gold bond off her back side by the time we get back, that 2 weeks will have probably been enough. See you all down the road! Jim
  25. Hey Folks, It has been brought to my attention about some of our conversations lately in the site. Let me 1st off say that it is our goal to keep this site PG rated, and the majority of the membership does a very good job at watching what we say on the forums. I'll be the 1st to admit that I am guilty of a few colorful metafors (sp?) so I am not without blame. There have been a few threads that push the boundries lately. We have many new members and perhaps it has slipped through the cracks that we are user friendly here. I know we try to keep it where kids can walk up behind us and we dont have to worry about what they are reading or seeing. I'm not saying to keep it like Teletubbies, we are all grown and we are bikers, many of us use colorful language at work. I'd like to state again for all of us to watch what we say on the forums. This is not directed at any one person, from time to time we let our hair down and sometimes we speak our minds. Thank you to all the members here, you do a great job of self policing yourselves and help keep us on the strait and narrow.
