  1. Ok, so I had the thread earlier about the fuel petcock. Got the fixed, the bikes running, so moving on to the next thing. I have an 83 venture. I paid $400 for the bike. The only other thing I tell is wrong with it so far is the foot brake. I know it also controls one of the front calipers. The problem is that when you press the pedal down, it stays, and you have to pull it back up. So any suggestions, tips, advice, etc., would be greatly appreciated. thanks for all the help earlier. Look forward to getting my bike on the road!!
  2. My 08 RSV feels and sounds like its only hitten on two cylinders. It won't even run in 5th gear without bogging down and I have to shift back into 4th. And then it will barely hit 50 MPH. I changed out the plugs, but I think it just made it worse. I may have some bad gas. I'm going to get some Sea Foam and try running it with that in it for a while. Any easy way to figure out which cylinders are not firing? Any ideas why it would quit firing on two cylinders? Thanks, Glenn
  3. My bike was wired for a trailer already when I got it. It has a converter under the seat and a four wire pig tail for the trailer hook up. The trailer that I just picked up is an Cycle Mate brand. It has two brake / running lights and two amber turn lights hanging off the back. The trailer is wired with a five wire hook up. And now we get to H E L P. Can I re-wire the trailer to still use the red brake / running and amber turns, or am I going to have to replace the light assemblies with combo brake / turn / running units? Thanks for the help, I have zero experience with five wire trailers.

Ok guys heres my problem, i am adding a highway blaster horn I picked up at autozone for 20 bucks (139db) i am mounting it in the front fairing. i have pulled a 12g 30 amp fused line from the battery to the fairing and i know it runs in to 30 on the relay, 87 will run to the horn it self i am running from the handle bar switch wire to 86 on the relay now my question whats running to 85 i know probably simple answer but basic backyard mechanic here lolol giving it my best thanks for any help
  5. Been cruising some posts for variations in Tires and their mfg codes/sizes. Stock Brickstones are 150-80H-16 front and a 150-90H-15 rear Avon's are (from what I can tell) Front: Avon AM41 150/80-16 71H Rear: Avon AM42 150/90B15 80H I can't find a listing for a 130 Avon for the front ... they do have them (yes/no)? I also read elsewhere in the site that someone's running a 180 rear.. can we put a 180 on and if so, what brand/code/size? Would also appreciate list of other brands/codes/sizes you guys are running ... I want to go with a 130 front.
  6. My buddy bough a a 72 CB 500 with a 550 engine and a Kawasaki front end. He wants to learn how to ride. It's been sitting for four years with half a tank full of gas. First we have to clean out the gas tank, then we're gonna sandblast the carbs. Then were going to clean/empty the brake lines out, I checked and it was empty, but there was just a little in the cylinder still. Then, before we even try to get it running, im going to drop the oil, and get new spark plugs. And if all else goes right, a fresh new paint job He spent $400 on this bike, so hopefully we can get it running right!

  8. Well, finally had a problem I can't solve immediately. The old 87 started running hot- right up to the red zone. Sounds like a sticking thermostat to me. Then it would drop. Then run hot again. And I'm in Southern Mexico, with daytime highs in the 80's. Never run this hot... So I took the old one out.It is running about 1/3 to 1/2 up the green zone. Nice and cool. I think when I come back to the US and the cold winds howl, I'll have to do the trucker trick with a block in front of the radiator...I don't want to pull this ***** again without a new one on hand! Thanks for your comments!

Hi every one hope you all had a GREAT Xmas and Top NEW YEARS This post is for, I have a clicking noise coming from the rear of my bike, it happens only when I move my bike with the motor not running.   13. Was having problem with #3 not firing. I checked for spark, plug was good but replaced anyway, cleaned all plug wire caps and check resistance, all no help. While bike was idleing I adjusted the sync screw for 3 and 4 a little bit each way, no help. ( I have a carbune ordered) I let bike sit a day, bolted tank back up and was going to run it that way for the weekend. When I startedthe bike, it's running worse. ONly on 2 cylinders now. #3 is now firing. # 1 and 4 are not. Any thoughts? Ok, so after more troubleshooting here's what I've found. Pulled the air box, hooked up a funnel with gas, kept bike running, there is gas going into all carbs when running, fuel pump is working., So, must be electrical
  14. Just put bike back on road after 2 months, it was running rough, #3 ? cylinder, (right rear) was not firing as the pipe did not heat up. After searching this site, I took apart the spark plug cap on this and found corrosion on the spring. Cleaned it up, and now running like new again.
  15. Just put on a new NEXAN C/T 165x80x15 on a 06 RSTD 44 k miles. Been running MET880. Question at speeds over 70 rear end floats and sways while going down HWY 85. Up to 70 did great. Running 31lbs ov air.. should I increse air preasure. Heading to Maryland next week....

  17. So I have a smell after I have been riding for a while not sure what is is maybe fumes from the carbs. It is not a raw gas smell but it is a smell like exhaust. I know this is not much to go on but its all I can say. The pipes look good when I look at them it is not running rich.
  18. Ive develpoed a gas leak. Noticed it today when I was under the bike listening to the collector rattle anf trying to decide what to do with that. The collector can wait. What I discovered was a gas leak at first what looked like it was fluid leaking from the rear shock. Pulled off the right side abs cover and can see the fuel leaking from somewhere above the rear shock and then running down the shock. Cant see where it is coming from though. It only leaks when the motor is running. Not sure if it leaks when the key is on but the engine is not running I will go check and edit the post as soon as I can. Anmy idea where to start or what will be the easiest way to get in there and see . Hopefully I can do this myself as it will have to sit if it needs to go to the shop. mONEY IS TIGHT WRIGHT NOW. aNY IDES WILL BE WELCOMED AND FOLLOWED UP. tHANKS IN ADVANCE, dAVID

    voltage

    what should my voltage be when running at speed,: 50 w driving lights wired directly, sylvania ultra headlight, rear running light/turn signal/ brake light,....carb heaters probably on, 4 month old battery, buckeye stator........ and if not correct....why....and what to test.......
  21. Hi guys. Weird thing started happening today. Rolling down the road, the warning light pops on and the dash goes through it's start up routine. It doesn't interupt the motor running at all but it'll kill the cruise if it's on. Happens every 50-75 miles with more and more recurring frequency. Any one have any info on this? Thanks!   22. I ordered the running lights from Yamaha and bought the mount from a venture rider member. Everything is fine except the bolt that runs from the light frame and screws into the piece that holds the turn signals is missing. The bolt has a hole through the middle to run the wire through. Can't find it anywhere and the parts dept. I ordered the lights from seem to think I will have to order a bunch of things I don't need just to get the two bolts. Any ideas or does anyone have them laying around that would be willing to sell to me. Thanks.

  24. I looked but have not found a thread about this. My 04 RSV has started running rough at speed only, idles smooth, and rough is intermediate no all the time. I first noticed it at 11,000 miles, at 75 to 80 mph the bike begins to have a rough vibration. Thought it was tires at first, but then realized it was engine, ran bike up to 90 and pulled clutch in and bike was rolling smooth. Went home and parked bike, the wife said lets ride to Valdosta and eat, got back on and bike was as smooth as ever. On the way bike was rough again, but half way back it just smoothed out. I am going to change plugs tommorrow and put some sea foam in the tank. Any other suggestions Gregg
  25. I was having a problem with keeping the bike running so I took it to the shop. They said they took the carbs off and that they were gummed up. Bike is an 07 with 37K. I did a 6000 mile ride out to Sturgis and back and didn't have any problems until the last day coming home. That morning it didn't want to stay running. I got it running and rode it back home with no more problems. The bike sat for maybe 4 days and I went to go ride and could not get the darn bike to stay running. I pulled the choke out and it would run full choke for a min or two and then cut off. I let it sit for a few hours and then went back out and pulled the choke and got the bike to run high ideal then pushed the choke in and it was running fine. Now the bike has sat for maybe 2 or 3 days and it is doing the same things. I can not keep the bike running with full choke or without choke. Does anyone have any ideas of what might be causeing this. The bike does have K&N filters been on for over a year now, road king pipes been on since 700 miles, AIS has been plugged then unplugged. I have replaced the fuel filter right before the cards got cleaned. I checked the fuel pump it is still pulling a sucktion. All fuel lines are conected and in good condition. I replaced the spark pulgs right before the cards got cleaned. I personal don't know what else could be the issue other than the cards wont tuned correct and the jets are back and not shemmed correct. I am by no means a mechanice but I do know how to do many things by reading our tech forums and the manuals. If anyone can help please speak up. Thanks so much in Advance. Robert 'TheKid'
