  1. With the info on this site you all helped me make a decision to buy the Blu/Blk 2007 RSV. I had to go to 3 dealers to find one. I bought it a week ago Saturday and road it home in the rain last Saturday. Just 10 miles on her now but come spring many more will add up. I traded in two Vulcan 1500 Classic Fi's and a SilverWing. But kept my Drifter. Since my wife can not ride anymore it did not make sense having four bikes anymore, two were hers. And I wanted to take advantage of the dealer having a year end low price. I loved the color. I will have many questions as time passes and also pictures once the weather warms up here in northern IL. I have question? I have noticed other Venture sites are they just a well informed and friendly? And if so are any worth joining also? Thanks Again Classicride From Zion, IL
  2. My last bike was a BMW K1200RS. I dropped that thing over one time from a standstill - A STANDSTILL, I said - and it caused $3800 in damage when it landed on its side. When it reached a certain axis, it was going down, and not King Kong or anyone else was going to hold it. That is why I am not buying any more BMW's. They do not have any protection for that sort of thing. A few bikes before that, I owned a Gold Wing. Now there is a behemoth. I also dropped that thing a couple of times, and it took Man Mountain Dean and a small army to heft it back into place. However...it always landed on these engine guards and tilted at about 45 degrees without any damage to anything. Nothing but the guards touched the ground. Again, there is nothing like that for most BMW's. I have also looked at Honda ST 1300's, which I really like. They have these wings on the side and some bar you can buy that sticks out behind the rear footpets to prevent those BMW drop-problems. This is a good thing. Now we come to the RSV. 807 lbs. Another leviathan. In the Gold Wing category. What happens when you drop an RSV on its side? Are there engine guards to keep the fairing and handle bars intact? Does it fall completely over and bend all kinds of stuff? Do those side bag guards do anything, or are they just for decoration? By and by, most of us are going to drop this thing, and I would like to know what is going to happen then? This is very important to me when I choose my next bike. It is one of the most important considerations on my list.
  3. I have am 06 RSV and a friend of mine just bought a new 07 RSV from a dealer in Stillwater Ok. I bought my bike from a dealer in Broken Arrow, Ok. and they told me Synthetic oil was just fine to use after the first 4000 miles. The dealer in Stillwater told my friend they don't recommend Synthetic oil at all in RSV. I have always used Amsoil motorcycle 10W40 in my bikes and have never had anything but good results. Does anyone no of a reason why we should not use Synthetic oil in our RSV? Thanks for your help, Dandy1
  4. So now I learn that an RSV has no fuel injection as well as ABS. Wherever I go, the rave seems to be fuel injection! ABS is debated. Sometimes it seems to me that those who don't like ABS are those who are selling non-ABS bikes, but I could be wrong. I might be able to live with non-ABS, but fuel injection is always highly regarded when I read about it. However...I note that some on here ARE GLAD that the RSV does not have fuel injection. I am not a mechanic. So I don't know fuel injection from fuel rejection. I think it has something to do with not having a normal carburetor. I heard someone say that fuel injection is a wonderful thing to have when you have a bike that goes up the Himalayas. But I am not sure what it means or why people are happy with it or not. Can someone enlighten me here and tell me why I should be overjoyed that the RSV does not have fuel injection? Does this mean I will actually be able to fix something?

    Stabil

To Stabil or not to Stabil. Up here in N. Mich. the RSV sets in hybernation for 5 months or so. I have always put stabil in the gas and filled the tank before putting to bed. The fella that we bought our RSV said he never used it because it was hard on rubber gas lines and plastic parts. I personally don't agree. What is your opinion?
  6. On youtube I just saw a guy demonstrate a set of basic vance & hines slip-ons on an RSV. They sure did look and sound good. I didn't know Vance & Hines made these for the RSV. Anybody know what gives? I have the Bubs on mine now, but I sure like the looks of the V&H more. Anyone have these V&H slip-ons on their bike? If so, do you know what model they are. I'd certainly appreciate any info. Thanks.
  7. I have a '99 RSV. The paint is starting to show some age (I guess the previous owner didn't keep it waxed) so I am thinking of painting it. If I do paint it, I want to change the colors. Does anyone have pics of custom painted RSV's to help give me some ideas? I have some thoughts but most of them have come from custom painted HDs. I would not mind some average-joe mistaking my bike for a HD but I also want fellow RSV riders to recognize my bike as what it is. Just looking for Ideas,:lightbulb:I am not trying to copy anyone.
  8. Does anyone have any thoughts or insights on Yamahas marketing (Or lack thereof) of the Venture? When my wife and I were looking for a touring bike we looked at Wings, HD's and BMW. I read reviews in various riding magazines. Not a mention of the RSV anywhere. I see ads for the all the other players but zilch on RSV. I do see V Star ads here and there. I have had several people see my 07 RSV and ask me what it was. Experienced riders (though admitedly not the touring type) have seen the Venture on the tank and asked me who makes it. We went into the local dealer of all things two wheeled to buy a set of tires for my Suzi and saw the RSV hiding in the corner of the showroom. We love this ride and wonder why Yamaha doesn't want to tell anyone about it.

    My Best Friend

October 17, 2007 was the day I lost my best friend Frank Hija. He was killed in an auto accident Near Port Huron, Michigan while traveling to a friends house to repair a motorcycle. He was a member of VR.Org but did not own a RSV. I have traveled many motorcycles miles with Frank and he was the best man I have ever known. He was one who would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. I will miss him dearly.

    Mirrors on 2007 RSV

I purchased my 2007 RSV approx 3 months ago, have ridden more than 7,000km ( over 4,300 miles ) and really enjoy the ride & comfort of my bike. If I was to say I had any complaint, it would be the "unwelcomed" vibration of the mirrors during travel at highway speed. I have adjusted the attachments etc and all seem to be fitting tight. I have previously owned 7 other bikes, and have not experienced this amount of vibration before. Never owning an RSV before, I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem. The vibration is bad enough, that I cannot visually make out details of vehicles behind me. I would really appreciate your feedback! Thanks in advance, Kirk
  11. Some way, some how my lower left Cowling has developed a crack, and now that crack has spread and the cowling is now split and worthless. So I need to replace it. Be nice if I could find a used one that would match the existing paint on my Titanium/Grey '99 RSV. So anyone know of a good place to get one? Has one to sell? Please contact me, thanks!
  12. Does anyone know if there is any difference in seats between a 1999 RSV and a 2006. I am looking for a seat and just found out that I can buy a new 1999 seat, shipped to my door, for about $10.00 more than what some are being sold for used. Wasn't sure if there was a difference or not. Even from Yamaha they are different prices.
  13. I've got a buddy here who wants to change from his cruiser to a touring bike. Right now he is looking at a gorgeous 2000 goldwing 1500 se and an '05 RSV (also mint). Both bikes have low mileage and are priced the same. He needs a nudge in one direction or the other so I told him I'd get on this board and ask those of you who have owned a 1500 to give your honest opinions in your comparison of these 2 bikes. It would be much appreciated. Thanks!
  14. While I sure hope I have at least another 60 days of riding, at some point I must face the inevitable. This will be my first winter with my 07 RSV. With other bikes in the past I have done everything from gas stabalizer, to battery removal. I have left petcock on, I have turned it off. I have filled the tank and I have emptied the tank. I have also done nothing. Now I have a bike I want to make absolute certain lives for 100k+ miles. What do other Northerners do with their RSV iover the winter?
  15. Anyone know someone or has a side car on a 1999 or newer RSV. I got a great deal on a Champion Rig and Looking for info on the hookup for it.

    Tank Bib

Is the gas tank on a 07 RSV and RSTD the same? I found a tank bib that fits a RSV and was curious if it would fit my RSTD.
  17. I just saw this bike show up in the forums random picture banner. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/vbpicgallery.php?do=big&p=2671 It belongs to BBrune. Not sure who he is really, but his RSV sure stands out. I kinda like it.
  18. I have a question for you folks what are some of the problems with the 2007 RSV ??
  19. Does anyone here use the Barnett Clutch in their RSV ? Does the whole clutch basket and all the clutches come with it ? Where and how much might I expect to pay for it ?

    How fast is the RSV?

I have been wondering for quite a while, just how fast is the RSV? I know my 99 RSV is very quick, and it does not have any wind out time to speak of to reach 100 mph. But I am not too crazy about traffic tickets, so I don't reach that kind of speed very often. But still, I am curious, has anyone really seen just how fast the RSV will go?
  21. OK -- how difficult is it going to be for me to install a CD changer on a 2000 RSV? Am getting one and was hoping the bike would be prewired for it, but apparently I have read that my hopes have been dashed. Pretty sure all cables and stuff will be included, as it came out of another RSV.
  22. A few years age I remember coming across a website the sold alot of RSV chrome. I remember there was a MMRSV all chromed out. Just about everything that could be chomed was chromed, even rotor covers. Has anyone seen this, and what is the web site?
  23. My apologies, I originally posted this in the wrong forum. I'm still getting used to the site. Sorry about that. The other day, whlie on the bike, my wife was driving behind me in her car. She said she was concerned about the lack of visibility from the rear and sides of the RSV and that we need to add some lights. I would appreciate hearing from some of you the kind of lighting you've added and if you could provide the site to obtain the lights. Thanks in advance. Jim T
  24. Been a member of this great site for a number of months and enjoy coming on just about everyday to read what my fellow members are saying about the great bikes we own and ride. But finally I think I may have something to contribute or complain about or even ***** about. And that is the extra it cost us(Canadians) to accessorize our bikes. For example: I recently ordered a replacement patch cord(upper) for my RSV. Refering to the book it was $32.95 plus tax of course 14%, my dealers price was $44.00 and change. New price came in of course since the book was printed in March. Just for S&G I checked the price of the same part in the States. $25. I know our dollar is just starting to rebound after some thirty years in the rear but price gouging seems to be the norm here in Canada. I know a easy remedy would be to order it from the US but we know what happens when we fail to support our local distributers. Also for example I just finished watching a report on how car dealers in the states are refusing to sell cagers to cross border shoppers. Not sure if this will end up in court but so much for free trade. By the way a new RSV is over $21,899 here compared to $17,599 in the States. Wish I still lived in Virginia Beach.
  25. Kuryakyn LED Trunk Handle ,think it will fit the RSV ? http://www.wingstuff.com/pgroup_detail/4034/
