  1. Been running avon tires for about 2 years. have not noticed any cracks yet but will pay closer attention from now on. When driving in the rain lets just say that extra caution required. Also just paid my subscription for the year and it cost 12.09 Canadian verses 12.00 American. Not sure if taxes are involved or not. I work for an American company and with the current state of the Canadian dollar something don't add up. Just another conversation piece.
  2. I drive the 06 and just replaced the battery as well. I normally get a few more years from batteries for my other bikes and thought this was a little early for replacement. At 160.00 bucks I hope this is not the norm for this bike.
  3. How did my pet get out of the house, he always likes to play tag.
  4. Being from Newfoundland but living away from home for the last 21 years, I have to say something to promote my island. We took a short trip last year from Port aux Basques(home town) to Gander and back. It took us four days, all the time we could spare, with a tour around the Gander loop for sight seeing. Great views where ever you look, moose, caribou and of course lots ice bergs. A couple of suggestions though when riding the rock, slow down for it is moose country and I mean the whole island. If it rains and it probably will at some point watch for the water ruts, this is where I recommend driving in the center of your lane. But most of all do stop and strike up a conversation with the locals, they don't bite and don't be surprised if you are invited back for a mug up(lunch). Enjoy the ride.
  5. Can't make the rally as I will be working during that time but the wife and I are planning on spending a couple of weeks in Ontario later in the summer and scooting back through the states for a few days as well. As for pit stops I'm sure their will be plenty of petro stations along the way with the money that we pay for this liquid gold. Another good remedy for this is a GPS as it indicates most of the major points including gas stations. The wife just read my note as it was in progress and now I have to refer to her as the better half, well I am just her chauffer. Have a good port visit in Canada.
  6. That opens your eyes. Somebody at our local motorcycle site(novascotiabikers.com) suggested that since we do so many charity rides all summer, that the first one of each riding season should be done for ourselves. Meaning the money raised can be used for advertising in the local papers throughout the year or anything else to helps bring attention to cagers that bikes are on the move again after a long winter of hibernation. If anything a show of force at the beginning of the riding season will make people aware that bikes are back on the road. For us seasonal riders I think this is a very good idea.

    New Job

Just looking in on the Elbo Room in Fort Lauderdale and everyone is in shorts and T shirts, can't wait till spring!! The reason for this note is that we have an international forum here, that being said, I am about to take on a new job with an offshore rig and I was wondering if any of our members may have held a postion on a offshore platform. Being in the navy for some 20 years I am by no means a land lubber but have never worked with the oil industry before. I will be employed in the technical side probably in a overseas position with a hitch of 28 days. I guess you can say that I am kind of a greenhorn when working with the private industry and any info of what to expect would be great. Thanks...
  8. Just something that CBC(national news) was covering today. Take a look and see what you think guys http://www.cbc.ca/news/yourview/2007/09/2b_lawsuit_accuses_car_makers.html
  9. Been a member of this great site for a number of months and enjoy coming on just about everyday to read what my fellow members are saying about the great bikes we own and ride. But finally I think I may have something to contribute or complain about or even ***** about. And that is the extra it cost us(Canadians) to accessorize our bikes. For example: I recently ordered a replacement patch cord(upper) for my RSV. Refering to the book it was $32.95 plus tax of course 14%, my dealers price was $44.00 and change. New price came in of course since the book was printed in March. Just for S&G I checked the price of the same part in the States. $25. I know our dollar is just starting to rebound after some thirty years in the rear but price gouging seems to be the norm here in Canada. I know a easy remedy would be to order it from the US but we know what happens when we fail to support our local distributers. Also for example I just finished watching a report on how car dealers in the states are refusing to sell cagers to cross border shoppers. Not sure if this will end up in court but so much for free trade. By the way a new RSV is over $21,899 here compared to $17,599 in the States. Wish I still lived in Virginia Beach.
