  1. I swapped the risers and my rsv bars for the rstd. It was an easy swap butt now i have a qiestion. Upon full turn the plastic cable supports just touch the tank, has anyone had this issue? On the rsv bars the cables are on the outside and the rstd the bottom. Upon my initial ride it feels much better to me than risers but now I need a long ride for a full opinion. I know my hands are outside the fairing protection but I may buy or make some handlebar deflectors if I like the feel of this on the long haul.
  2. Today I rolled over my first 1k on my RSTD! Yea!
  3. Sold the RSTD today. Actually traded it for a 2012 Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 Voyager. I've been waiting for Yamaha to hang a new fuel injected v4 on the Venture and maybe update the technology to add ABS. Alas, the old RSTD needed a bunch of maintenance all at once so I gave in and bought the new tech from Kawasaki. Picked her up tonight with zero miles and put her away with 36 miles. Have to give her the standard break in for the next 964 miles, then I'm hitting the road for Colorado. So, anybody want to buy some barely used slash cut RSTD pipes? I hung them in the shed 7 years ago and they are still there. Also found the stock seat. Make me an offer if you're interested. Warmest regards,
  4. My 98 RSTD has rusted leaky front exhaust pipes(rust pinholes at the front bend).Mine was an outside stored bike before I got it...I need to know which year range will fit so I search for used ones. I found some at Pinwall Cycle on Ebay.I'd like to buy the newest model used pipes I can.If anyone has any let me know. I know for sure I need the two front pipes coming from the head to the rear.I don't need the mufflers as I have done the Road King thing. Also any tips, tricks to remove and install such as best exhaust gaskets and such. Also I have a set of new brackets for installing RK pipes,I didn't use them,I decided to weld the stock brackets on my RK muffs. Not sure the going rate( I bought em a year ago) but I'll let them go cheap. Thanks Doug
  5. Could someone tell me how far back in years will they fit the 08 RSTD? Looking at a remanufactured one on Ebay from a 97.
  6. ok i went on a search on flebay pinwalls stuff and found a set of carbs for an 05 to 07 RSTD does anyone know if they are the 32 mm carbs i would need to do the carb swap for my 99 RSTD so i would (could) try to catch some of those 1st genners if it is and will work i can get them for 89.00 plus shipping just have to save up for that maybe by next week then come the intake boots and other stuff needed
  7. Hi ALL, New to the site & just gettin' my feet wet. Maybe somebody has experience or knowledge - I'm sure it's been discusssed many times.... Somebackground, I have an 08 RSTD that I bought a year ago (only 6k on it) and have since put 4k on. Love this bike's build quality & ride!! I've owned muscle bikes, dual-sports, c-rockets, standards and I've finally come around to a keeper. No problems at all except the occasional gear whine (?) Not sure I first thought it might be wind noise whistling through the fairing or something. Not a bid deal to me- unless it's an issue for down the road and I ought to have it repaired while under warranty. Any thoughts? About the pipes. I just installed a set of LA Chopper oval bagger slip-on pipes. Sound great!!! I'm getting some backfire on decel. with hard throttle- not so bad under smooth throttle. I've called some local shops & get mixed opinions- most want to install a jet kit (quoted over 600. ?!?) or do a carb air/fuel adjustment. I've even been told jet kits are not available by some shops. I researched and found a jet kit by "Factory Pro" (#CRB-y92-1.0) that is advertised as a drop-in stage 1 kit requiring no drilling of the slides. Sounds good to me....Anybody ever put one of these in or know of them? I ordered it today so I'm going to look for somebody to install. Also, installed K&N filters as well. Any advice or opinions would be great! Ridin' On:cool10: RSTAR08
  8. any rstd owners have stock handlebars and weights they are looking to part with??
  9. Okay, so I'm wanting a new set of pipes on my bike. Would prefer to go with a full set and not just mufflers. I want something quiet but with a bit throatier of a sound. I could have sworn my last RSTD had Hard Kromes, however after looking at their site, they do not have a specially fitted one for an RSTD. Any suggestions on what I should go with? I have a 2006. Thank you for any advice. Flash
  10. are there any brackets available for muffler conversion RSTD to harley pipes?
  11. The book says that i can remove the fairing on my 2008 RSTD. Can I ride the bike without the fairing?
  12. I just purchased a Venture tank for my RSTD to get the extra fuel capacity for trips. Is there anything special I need to know to swap it? In the pics, it looks like a direct swap. What do I use for a sealer for the petcock? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. R.
  13. Disregard this post...... upon further inspection i figured out how the cover was mounted.... MY 2007 Midnight RSTD has developed a "Buzzing" sound at high idle and 'at speed' - the noise is coming from the left lower fork cover. this cover has a little movement (the other side is solid) in it causing the buzzing.....i can temporarily fix it by simply pushing on the cover to stop the noise but eventually it starts all over again. I looked at my service manual to see if i could understand how this cover is secured, but the info isn't detailed enough to figure it out. I know we have some very knowledgeable members out there and hope one of you can offer advice. The incessant buzzing going down the road is ANNOYING !! Help ........ Buz
  14. I've looked at the previous posts on adding a fairing to a RSTD. I really like the looks of the stratoliner deluxe fairing and was wondering if anyone happened to know how much modification would be necessary to make it fit an RSTD...I've seen the ones that look like a harley fairing, but am wanting a different look... Any input? Thanks!
  15. i have decided to do a 32mm carb swap on my rstd after reading the artical (and i dont know how i found the thread) that freebird posted a link to writen by lynn nicholls about the swap that is if i can get the 32 first before the stock 28 so i hope to be riding my rstd by october or november if all goes well doing the jobshould take me about a day to do that should be easy getting the carbs, intake boots, and clamps will be the hard part as this requires more money than i got so now i have to start saving my pennies without the wife knowing as she is actively looking for gainful employment and unemployment nolonger pays teachers when they are laid off so wish me luck as i look for a 2nd J@% to pay for this
  16. I have to replace the windshield on my RSTD. I started by looking for a stock windscreen, and all I found was this: STR-1D607-11-00 7” lower than stock, made of tough polycarbonate with Quantum Coating® for superior abrasion resistance and longer life. I couldn't find the stock size at the Yamaha website. I'll admit that the only place I could see the windscreen listed was in accessories. I couldn't find it in the parts section. So I started looking for alternatives. The most popular seems to be the Clearview. Threads here suggest that people are getting the shorter version, with the vent. The recurve is both praised and cursed. Any comments on this, comfort, mpg, passenger buffeting? How does the wider size impact attachments to the handlebars? How about riding in the rain, which I do a lot of? The stock windscreen keeps me nice and dry, but it kills my mpg. Another option is Cee Baileys. Anyone have this?? WHen would you use light green? What else is there to fit the stock RSTD quick connect? How does the smoke windscreen look on a midnight bike? Photo examples? Thanks so much for your experience and opinions! Dave
  17. Was hoping I wouldn't have to post for advice in this section so soon after purchasing my 2005 RsTD last week. The bike has only 5400 miles. I picked it up last Friday. Rode it down to NYC where it sat in my parents garage till Tuesday. I drove over, topped off tires and air shock and rode about 400 miles. Left it parked till this morning. Today my dad went to start it to ride to work and get it inspected for me and no go, he said the battery was drained. Him and my brother push started it down my driveway and it fired up. He let it run for 15 minutes killed the engine and went to restart but the battery wasn't charging. The original owner replaced tthe battery last year and even gave me the old one. I am a complete layman when it comes to anything mechanical and really can't afford to take it to the stealership. Any advice? Only accessory iis a 12v adapter.
  18. does any one know where i could find a set of carbs for my 99 RSTD 28mm real cheap
  19. Does anyone know of a 4 into 4 exhaust that is made for the 05-09 RSTD, or has anyone seen any custom made for them?
  20. Title sums it up! I just sold my suzuki GSXR in favor of what I like to think of as a limo on two wheels. Picked up my 2005 RSTD 2 nights ago and I am in LOVE. My girl loves to ride as well but hated the back of the GSXR. After one quick trip to get acquainted we are both hooked. Look forward to learning as much as I can here and more important find some cool people to ride with. We are located on LI but ride all over the Pocono /Catskill area. Have a feeling this forum is the best $12 accessory ill get for my rstd.
  21. I am new to the RSTD, couple of months on an '06. Love the bike, except the seat and that is going to repaired soon, and the pipes. It has the 4-2-4 Big Nasty's on it and is just too loud for MY taste. I picked up a set of RK mufflers, had 500 miles on them, for $20.00 yesterday. I know I will need a bracket. I have all of hte clamps, just need a bracket. I have a pretty well equipped shop and can build one if I had the dimensions. Can someone give me the length and bolt spacing needed? I know it has a couple of bends that I can work out. Would sure appreciate the help. Barry
  22. Hey guys. Since I purchased my Harley Ultra Classic a couple weeks ago I need to get rid of my stock RSTD pipes. I had put Road King slash cuts on my RSTD and still had the OEM pipes in a box in my garage. They're in perfectly fine shape. Had about 8000 miles on them. So, I'm looking to find out from you fine folks what they are worth so I can sell them. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks all!!
  23. Does anyone know if the 2012 stock harley mufflers have the cat inside the muffler? Will these work on our RSV or RSTD? Joe
  24. Passing lamp's for 2008 RSTD? Joe
  25. I have a RSTD 2006 midnight, and I was thinking about buying a trunk with an integrated passenger back rest, but I want to install it on to the OEM quick detach sissy bar that comes with the RSTD. Has anyone don this yet? and if so can you post some pictures so I can see what it looks like. Thanks.
