  1. Does anyone ever hear of problems starting their Royal Star in cooler weather? I've had this problem for three years now, and it's now starting again. I've put a new battery on, changed the plugs, air filter, brought it to the stealership, nothing helps. It is fine all summer, but as soon as it gets cold at night, I can't start it in the morning. I was thinking maybe something with the choke, but when it finally does fire up it is revving really high, like the choke is working fine. I hooked a lamp onto the engine all night and that seemed to help, but I'd rather solve the problem. This is my favorite time of year to ride and I hate getting stranded at night, fighting the starter. Any ideas?
  2. if you like country, blue grass, old timey country or gospel, we're going to athen, Al tomorrow to hear some. they also have arts &crafts there also. hope tp be there around 10am. so if you are close to there come on out and enjoy it, we will. it around 10 or 15 dollars to get in for all day. they stanp your hand so you can leave and come back. we're spending the night and going home on sunday. it's held at athen's state community college right in the middle of town, just ask anybody there and they'll tell you how to get there.
  3. Sunday night at 10 on History channel "Most Dangerous Roads" Should be interesting.
  4. Did you get my message from last night? gunk
  5. I hadn't seen Yammer on here lately and thought maybe he was scootin' through PA when I saw this in the York Daily Record: State Police do not keep speed records. But if they did, the motorcyclist clocked at 147 miles per hour last night on Interstate 81 in Silver Spring Township would likely rank high on the list, police said. Was that you Dan?
  6. Just think if you had to log on to one of these dino's every night to find out what was going on in the VR world. http://www.flixxy.com/1967-future-computing.htm
  7. For the first time in 5 months and 4 days, I will be going to work! The accident on March 27 sure has changed my life, but I hope tonight makes it feel a little more normal. I'm nervous, but so ready to get back; not to mention have a full paycheck. My surgery on Aug 6 has been a success; I have limited feeling in my right hand, which is better than none at all! Here's to a good night at work..... I'll be thinking about the Eastern seaboard with EARL and FIONA; my parents are in Myrtle Beach, lets hope these beasts stay out to sea!!!! Ben
  8. Someone was looking for a valve last night. Here is entire thing. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1983-Yamaha-XVZ-1200-Venture-rear-brake-master-cylinder-/370425478537?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item563f143d89

    Good Night

Good Night all. Sleep well. I love all of my Venturerider brothers and sisters. I hope tomorrow is a wonderful day for each and every one of you. Yes, I am just in that kinda mood.
  10. Well folks, I'll be out of touch for at least a few hours. I have the eye surgery at 11:30 tomorrow. I have no idea how long it is supposed to take but I'll probably be home very late tomorrow night. The worse part is that I can't have anything to eat or drink after midnight tonight. No coffee tomorrow morning.....that is NOT a good thing. Anyway, I'll be back with a full report whenever I can. It may be Thursday though. Not sure how I will feel when I get home tomorrow night but I'm thinking probably not very good.
  11. I leave work at 1:00 am every night. The traffic lights do not change to green untill aproached by a cage and ignores motorcycles. When driving my truck I have notice that the light changes in 16 seconds. So, when I approach the light with my motorcycle I count off 20 seconds then go through if the way is clear. Last night I was pulled over for crossing on a red light. I explained the above situation to the officer and after verifying my license he let me off. Who is too say the next time I will get let off though and as I explained to him I can't sit there all night waiting for a cage to approach the light. I know this is not an uncommon occurance, so how do the rest of you deal with these situations
  12. Ok, I hope someone has a quick / easier / inexpensive fix for this one.. Because I park the bike in the garage over night with the key in the ignition, and seldom stop longer than a fuel stop when traveling, I just noticed that when I pull the key out, the little cover jobbie doesn't cover up the hole that the key fits into.. So if left out over night, and it rains, I'm going to be heading for some problems with rust and such and be out of an ignition switch / lock.. I've sprayed it with WD40 and other products but can't seem to make it move to cover the hole.. Thoughts, suggestions?
  13. Let me start off by saying I'm having a great time. The riding has been spectacular even today when I rode in 3 hours of rain. This being Independance Day long weekend, I have had my challeges getting a camping spot but it always worked out. Night two I was deperite after getting turned away from two camp sites. I saw a farm house that was storing trailers. So I did a door knock and introduced myself and asked if I could camp by the trailers. The man said sure and called his wife who said I could even use his shower outside in his workshop for $15. I thanked them very much and set up camp. I did have to clean the shower as I don't think it had been used in over 5 years. Cob webs and moths all over, but it worked great. So here is my story of my fourth night camping at a KOA in Goodland Kansas. Let me first say that this is a very clean and well kept facility. Well this is earlier then I would like to wake up without an alarm. Real bad storm. A few times I thought the wind was either going to lift the tent off the ground or break it into pieces. I was awake when I heard noises and people at 1am. I didn't know what they where doing. My pee jug was getting full from my second time. I cautiously open the tent a little to dump it out and the ground was covered in water. Only about an inch. The people that I heard where other tenters that got flooded or their tent torn apart. They got in their truck and spinning tires to get out. I laid in bed not able to go back to sleep. The rain was so hard but the tent was doing well. The wind was what concerned me. I was afraid the tent would get damaged and I wouldn't be able to close it. There goes the next 3.5 weeks I was thinking. My mind wasn't stopping should I cut my losses or tuff it out. A lull in the weather happened. *Good time to break camp I thought. Don't be a chicken I thought. So there I laid. The storm picked up again, eaqually as bad. I checked outside by unzipping the door a few inches. Now there was 2 inches of water all over the ground. It kept comming down and blowing so hard that I thought I may damage the tent trying to put it away. At 2:15am I checked outside and there was almost 3 inches of rain water on the ground. That was it, only an inch or two more and my changing area will be under water. I started to pack things up inside the trailer so when there was a lull in the weather I would be ready to spring into action. I made a mental list of what I needed to do outside to close the tent quickly and without damaging it. There I sat bed deflated belongings packed away and waiting. 2:30, the rain slowed right down and wind wasn't so strong and gusty. Like a lion saving their cubs I was out and moving. Lucky I had my boots the trailer skirting was all under water. The gravel road was covered. No hesitation I had to act to get this tent down and closed before another wind gust would come and rip it out of my hand. I kept seeing flash news reports of times past of bad things happening in trailer parks. Everything went smooth. The tent got put away safely. I put the cargo carrier on the picknic table as the water drains thru. What a relief. I may be a chicken and over reacted, but I kept thinking it could get worse and then where would I be. It's only sleep I'm missing out on by packing up. If the weather breaks in the morning I'll set it back up to dry and sleep. If I have to stay another night that's ok too. My tent us not broken. I'm a happy camper. I'll up date you all in the morning. Dave Sent from my iPhone
  14. Well, since I will not make it to Nelson, BC like I wanted to I figured I can still enjoy my ride to work... Both there and back. I will be departing Lubbock, Texas the morning of 4/July. Heading up to Rawlins, WY for the night. The following morning I'll depart Rawlins, head north following Highway 287 through Yellowstone all the way up to Whitehall, MT, where I will likely stop for the night. Then take the slab up to Spokane, Washington where I will have to decide whether to slab it all the way to Seattle or take US-2, 97, and Highway 20 to intersect with I-5 just north of Seattle. There will probably be an overnight stop sometime in there depending on which way I decide to go. Then the last day will land me at the Lab I will be working at in Vancouver, BC. This route seems better than slabbing it the whole way up there but for you folks that live in the Yellowstone area, I am DEFINITELY up for suggestions. I am looking to see quite a bit on the way but still make reasonable time. Same goes for folks in Washington, I am certainly up for route advice, and would appreciate any and all input. Route advice, the essential things to see and take dorky pictures of myself and bike along the way are all appreciated and welcomed. Thanks in advance! By the way, I plan on posting pictures along the way and some updates to this thread - just in case anyone is interested.
  15. Got back from MD Sunday night pretty wiped out. Good day Monday, still wiped out. TuesDAY not bad, now tuesday night was another story. Doubled over in stomach and back pain. Went to the ER (there all night), long story short, I'm headed back to the Horsepital in 20 min. to have my gall bladder yanked out @ 3pm. They tell me I'll feel better afterwards.
  16. Just posting a link for an individual who is on a wonderful mission, raising awareness about cancer, survival, and hope. If there are any members in Washington state that would like to meet up with Terry and log a few miles just let me know. I have offered him a place to stay for the night and some home cooking here on Camano Island. http://www.terrysbigadventure.com/ Thanks everyone! Larry AKA Silverdeer
  17. Last night at around 10:00pm there were some bad storms with heavy wind, hail, lightening, AND Tornadoes. There was a lot of damage. I know that we have some members out in the area hardest hit. There is no land phone service or power. At one point there were 48,000 without power. I sure hope everyone is OK. According to the weather dude on TV the super cell that spawned the tornado went directly over me and dissipated as it got closer to the lake. This was the closest that I have ever been to heading for the basement.
  18. OK..I know that Lonna didn't make cheese cake this year but there WAS some cheese cake present and once again, it was very good. I don't know who to thank though. So whoever it was, thank you very much, I did enjoy a SMALL piece of it late on Saturday night.
  19. Mini tops the table dancing from last night. http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/PICT0373s.jpg Gary

  21. OK folks, I'm going to pull the plug on the group reservations for BBQ at the Moosehead Grill on Friday night. Eileen and I drove up there today and it's just too much trouble on top of everything else we have going on for the weekend. We have to reserve their "Party Room", pay the $100.00 rental, pay a per head price of around $16.00 per person and the "catering" menu that we have to select from is basically the same as what we have already ordered for the Saturday meal. So, basically everybody will be on their own for Friday night. If some want to go to the Moosehead, that is fine and I'm sure they can handle multiple small groups. Some of us usually go to a little place called Scoreboards in LaGrange, about 8 miles away. There is also a small Mexican Restaurant in Oberlin that is pretty darn good and also a Chinese place in the same building. So......everybody can decide where they want to go and everybody doesn't have to go to the same place. Hopefully this is OK with all of you.
  22. :beersign:Yes friends of VR Chat, the time has come to get our togas out of the closet. This Thursday night starting around 8:30PM (EST) we will have a Toga Party. Please show up and show off your Toga's Thursday! Yama Mama
  23. Hello all - the annual carnival is just around the corner in Ohio - as usual, I'll be riding up form Tex-ass. Planning on leaving Wednesday the 16th. for a two-day ride. I usually spend the first night just north of Nashville, Tennesse. Anyone in Texas, Arkansas or Tennessee want to join up for the ride? If you are riding up from the desolate southern regions of Tex-ass, we can give you a bed here for Tuesday night. Lemme know . . . Goose
  24. Question for all you over the hill riders and campers. This question is for men and women. As you all know, as we get older, sometimes we have to get up in the night to visit the privy. Where do you go at in the middle of the night? Do you walk to the outhouse or carry a port-a- john or what? Boy--can't wait to hear the comments on this one. I'm asking for it I know so have fun,but would like some answere's also. Trying to talk the wife into camping again on the bike.
  25. Goin' to fill in the rest of my map in the area and get a saddlebag from Jonesy at Americade later the following week. Probably leavin' thursday night the 3rd of june, head south to the middle of IL and then head east through Indy and take I70 to the middle of PA and then down to DC. From there I'll be trying to ride in all those states but also trying to miss the big cities. When I get to Maine, I'm going to see if that "Haynesville road is just a ribbon of ice" in june, and then head back west to Mt Washington and then to Lake George. I'll keep posting to this thread as I go, but I'll probably camp quite a few nights so it may not be often as the trip progresses. If anyone lives along I70 in western Pa that would like company for a night next Friday, let me know. Beyond that, I have know idea where I'll end up at this point, but would like to meet a few more folks from here if it works out. Later, Scooter Bob
