  5. well the rally is a liittle over a week away, and i think we got all are apples in one basket. lots of folks coming, lots of plans for a good time, lots of good food, good rides, vendors, great place and hosts at the hub where we are having it. alot of folks are coming that haven't registered, and that is okay. we got you covered. i sure was lucky to have the folks that i picked for my committee. i lucked out and got some keepers. cindy has gone out of her way, and worked very hard on this meet. she makes me feel like i did'nt do anything. thats why i picked her. i want to thank all the folks on the committee and the ones that had to leave because other commitments arose, the moderators , who gave great input. and don for keeping us all out of trouble. by the way don was the one who came up with the design for the awesome t-shirts and patches. rose bud donated the use of the machine to make the name buttons. see you all there and i hope we put a good one together for you. we did our absolute best. see you all at the hub. snarley bill
  6. Sorry i goofed , i met to say 2 gen Mech. you know it is hard to tell the dif. just got done lowering Mike's aka Skyking 2 gen and it was lot's of fun ! it was lots of fun getting to the front forks than trying to get the the tree down the 1 in. but we got it done ! took a large malet and some pry bars but it is done ! installing the longer dog bones and rear brake relocator was a lot easyer , a little trick do not raise the rear tire off the ground , makes it a lot easyer , only took me a hour to figger that out . the last thing we did was change the kick stand , what a pain in the . why not make the bolt a 1/2 in shorter ? anyway its all done and looks darn good ! Mike said it rides good too he proved it by riding with no hand for a short way and of course i proved to him that 1st gens are faster and a lot easier to work on ! i want to thank JerryW for all the info and help , with out him i could not have done it ! THOM -------- the idiot who thought he was a mech.

  12. well i mapped out the rides for the st. charles meet in may and they are going to be awesome. i road the friday ride to hannibal last saturday, it is 238 mile and covers some beautiful country in illinois and missouri. the friday ride to herman mo. will pass many historic sights and more beautiful country and lots of twisties. it will be 147 miles. i garantee these will be really nice rides. i want to really do it up right this year cuz it will probably be my last meet here. so i hope to see lots of people. this will be a meet to remember. sure wish i could get lewis, eck, and some of the georgia people up here to repay them for their great hospitality.
  13. Just a heads up !! Anybody who happens to be East of Washington State, There is LOTS !! of Rain headed your way
  14. just, want to remind people to get your registration in as soon as you can for the 09 rally. it will be most helpful so we can get a count on the folks attending, and ordering tshirts, patches, and the name buttons that cindy is making. as far as an up date no major happenings. the committee will be getting together soon to finish up the planning. glad we got an early start. lots of neat things going on. i think we got the worst part of the planning behind us. looking forward to the riding season and you all be careful we want to see you at the hub. snarley bill
  15. this is not an update on the rally, but i just wanted to relate to alot of the new members what it's all about. it is the main event every year for the venture riders. this year it will be at the hub motorcycle resort in ar., 9 miles south of harrison ar. all members are invited and it is your chance to really get involved and meet lots of fine people and make many new friends. it will be a chance to let your hair down and relax and get away from all your problems for a couple of days. we are going to have rides , vendors, activities for the kids, lots of food, games, sight seeing in some of the best touring areas in the usa, bar none. and more things we haven't thought of yet. if any one has any questions ,you can pm me, and check out all the info under rides and rallies. bill

  17. i don't know how to thank every one of you guys and ladies for all of your support, love, and well wishes! yesterday would have been our 34th anniversary! i am making it one day at a time, lots of choked up throat periods, lots of tears, but i also have lots of fond memories! you guys have "carried me through this", even though i have not acknowledged it! my our God in heaven bless each and everyone of you! just jt
  18. Anyone here "Darksided" their bike? "Darkside" = car tire on rear of bike. I have seen vids and done lots of research on this. Stronger sidewalls. Longer treadlife. I have talked to a few people on a Roadstar forum that I belong to about it. Lots of people say it cant be done or its to dangerous....I have seen underbike camera footage showing bikes cornering sharply and maintaining tread contact with the road and showing that radial tires actully "round out" a bit as you corner thus maintaining that contact patch. Found lots of vids about it on YouTube.
  19. Hope this is the right place to post. Bought a complete (all parts and instructions intact) OEM Yamaha stator cooling kit off Ebay to install on my 84. Got it apart to find it was already there. Lots cheaper than a new stator and easy to install. 1 hour. $25 + shipping $7 chuckfrench48@gmail.com or 915-594-4083
  20. I have belonged to this site for a few years now and have met many of you and have long conversations with lots of others. So I value and respect the opinion of lots of you guys....heres my question....I am thinking about getting a 1994 Goldwing...can get it fairly cheap. Any experience with this year? I know the wing is a good bike but some years have their issues? Any input?....Im looking at it because we are going to be doing alot more distance riding. I know all about the Venture..like I said, I have been here for years. I have even rode some other members bikes....but there are no deals on Ventures around here.Im looking at a wing. Something? Anything?
  21. won't be long before the 08 eureka springs ar. meet, sept 10th thru the 13th. it is going to be a good one and probably the last one. fantastic rides, even going to stop by the hub for dinner. lots of good folks will be there. any late comers that need info we have a sticky under rides and rallies. for those planning on coming we are having a drawing for the guys and gals, so if you would like to donate a small item for the drawing that would be fine. this meet is totally free , no registration. so all you need is food and gas. i think the host motel is totally full but there is a load of motels and eaterys in the immediate area. looking forward to seeing my old friends and lots of new ones. we have some great rides planned. even though there is a no helmet laws in arkansas bring helmets cuz we may do some riding in missouri, and they have a helmet law. bill
  22. I'm in the market for a cycle lift. I see that lots of folks here use the Sears lift (the $100 model). In researching that particular model on the Sears site, people seem to really **dislike** that model (lots of 1's on a scale of 5). LOTS of complaints about shoddy workmanship, broken pumps, etc. So I'm looking for an expert's perspective (yours) on the "best" cycle lift! I'm leaning towards the Larin MAL2 (~$190.00). All thoughts, comments, experiences would be appreciated.
  23. Just got back with over 1000 miles under my butt in 73 hrs. From home to Spillville Ia, House on the Rock, Wi, Wisconsin Dells, Eau Claire Wi, visited grandkids in Eau Claire, then around Lake Pepin on the Mississippi, both sides, Red Wing, Lake City and Wabasha, then to Rochester, Mn, Owatonna Mn, Sleepy Eye, Mn then the quickest way home as it was getting late. Never before tried this, Venture performed flawlessly, I didn't tried to kill on some uphill starts, and redlight goofs. Had lots of fun trying to get a motel room this weekend around here, as Sturgis riders, both coming and going were filling most motels along the interstate. Had lots of fun. Daryl
  24. just got back from my mind clearing sunday morning ride. i know what your thinkin,ya gotta have a mind first. lol. any way this has been a hectic week. got my arkansas meet coming up in september this year, and took on the arkansas national rally for 2009. i don't even live in arkansas. a feelng of fear came over me for a second thinking what the heck did i get into. then i got excited and lots of neat ideas started popping into my head. i thought this ones for you'all and i'm going to give it the best shot i've ever given anything in my life. you might say this is my last hoorah. sure would like to see yamaha make a showing there some how. maybe thier semi truck full of accessories and demo bikes. could happen. the big thing i want to see is lots of members. rose bud who is on the commitee suggested name buttons and she can make them. then we can remember who everyone is. i know we have alot of members that sit on the sidelines and don't post much and don't attend the meets. you don't know what your missing. venture riders is a family of great people that will bust their butts to help each other out. there are no cliches like most groups have and no favorites. it's just the best bunch of people around. so all you folks that just kind of check in once in awhile let your hair down and come to the 2009 national rally. i am going to really work on getting alot of member participation. i want the folks at the hub to remember our group for a long time. in a good way that is. bill :clap2:
  25. I wont mention who's home in WEST BY GOD VIRGINIA I saw this box of Krispy Kreme's at.....but it wasn't all that long ago, and there were lots of people there PS Look at the one thats HALF eaten!!
