  1. a friend of mine needs some help with his 99 1500 honda valk. he paid a honda shop a lot of money to clean his carbs and now his float needle valves will not seat , the mech. installed new needle valves and polished the seats but gas still leaks past , he said there is no way to adjust the floats ?? anybody know how to adjust the floats ? he told me today that a new set of carbs cost 1700.00 not installed . i need to help him get the Valk. running so i can out run him , i do not want to run him on his other bike , a m109r Susy , he came by the shop today to ask for help and show me the 109 after looking at the 109 i kinda tucked my tail , man that is a lot of bike ! Thom
  2. I'm currently in SE VA on our weekend ride and I belive my rear shock has failed with 27,000 miles on it. With about 40 psi in the shock it will bottom our over the slightest dips in the road. I've already called my dealer and they have contacted Yamaha and have a new shock on order for me. Hope to have it installed next week. We're still able to ride but the bike doesn't seem to handle as well. Oh well!:crying: Dennis
  3. I just installed a Hoppe fairing on my 07 RSTD and noticed a lot of wind coming under it. Has anyone installed a Hoppe and modified a set of lowers to deflect the wind? pics would be nice if possible.
  4. took the new trailer i built for a test run today, behind my v- star. you must remember i am covering unknown ground here. amazingly, i could'nt tell it was back there. i put a few items in it for weight, but it did'nt seem to effect the bikes power. only took it up to 55 mph. planning on a long run tomorrow and 75 miles per hour. i have a hitch for my wing but haven't installed it yet. i don't like the idea of pulling a trailer, but i want to go camping. it sure does look stupid back there and i feel like a real ass. who cares you only go aroumd once.
  5. Just installed IE 8 this week now I'm having trouble logging in to chat...
  6. I ordered and had installed a Pirelli MT66 rear tire on the front of my 05 RSTD. Had thoughts about changing the tire myself, but a local tire place did it for $15, the deal of the day. Also installed dynabeads. Don't know for what reason, but the steering changed completely. Much, much quicker than the Metzler 880 I took off. I think about turning and I am in the other lane, either the new tire or the mold release compound, but will take some time to get used to. Also took all of the air out of both front and rear shocks, so I am riding a different bike now.
  7. I was thinking about installing a Venture Dash Accent trim kit. I was wondering if anyone had one installed and what you thought of it? I know Yamaha makes 2 (Wood and Aluminum) and found another vendor who will create the exact same kit in any one of about 20 finishes. Was curious the good / bad expierences? Any photos would be greatly appreciate of what you have installed. Thanks in advance.. Stuart
  8. Hey Eck, I noticed the leather pouches you had on the inside of the windshield in some of the pics you have posted, are they expensive?? and where can I order some ?? How secure are they ?? I wouldn't want anyone to pinch them after I installed ! I think thats it OH ! you can come deliver them if ya want
  9. got my new hitch installed on my v-star this morning, sand blaster called and my trailer frame is ready to paint. la pryor called the other night. got to get him fixed, and we will be ready to head for vogel. by the way everyone say a little prayer for la, he's going to the doc monday. i am praying that the news is good. hopefully some rest and medication will fix him up. sounds like he has what i've been fighting for the last four years. not to mention we are a couple of old farts. la said he will be at the 09 rally if he has to cage it. we got a campsite reserved at vogel. got to get some of ecks free coffee. god willing we will be there. bill ps. can't even tell that new hitch is back there. :rotf:

  12. Has anyone installed an Osram, or equivalent, H4 80/100 watt bulb in their 1st or 2nd edition yamaha? Just curious if anyone has and if they had any issues. I installed one in my Harley Davidson Ultra and wow, what a great bulb. Very noticeably out performs the popular Silverstar everyone is raving about. However, these 80/100's are marked "Off-Road Only", but......
  13. Has anyone installed a MicroTach+ in their RSV 2nd Gen? http://www.speedwayinstruments.com/products/microtach.html While digging through my winter boxes (from Vstar to RSV) I found such a tach.. TC88 version.. If you've installed one, could you drop me a line? Cheers
  14. Here is my dilemma. When I removed the slave cylinder the rubber item you see illustrated as "C" was installed. As you can tell by the way it is warped and too large to be the proper seal I can onlyl assume it was wrongly installed by the PO. So, I ordered the factory "Push Lever Seal Kit" from mother Yamaha and it finally arrived today. But rather than being a one piece seal, it is two very different seals. Now I am trying to figure out just how this two piece seal kit is suppose to be installed on the slave. The two piece seal is both A and B as shown. "B" appears to fit perfectly as shown in pics 5 - 9, but for the life of me, I simply cannot figure out what to do with seal "A". Does anyone have the knowledge if both seals are suppose to be used or just Item "B"? I have tried to provide goods pics and hope they are suitable. I look forward to any assistance provided. Forgot to mention, this is for a MKII 1st Edition.
  15. I installed a MX radio about a year ago, and installed the Y spliter from Radio shack as instructed by the fine folks of this site, about a month ago, I lost my right side speakers only while on the XM, they worked fine with the reg. Radio, I opened up the fairing and was applying the contact greese to all connections, when I pulled apart the Y connector, I heard my speakers come on for a second..so I pluged it back in, nothing but the left side....hhhmmm...so I pulled it apart real slow...they worked...ok, so I found a rubber washer that was about 1/8in thick and installed it over the male end and plugged it back in...Shazam!!! they all worked again... so I taped it up real good and put on a few small tywraps to secure it and put the beast back together..all is still working to date. Has anyone else had to do this?? or am I the lucky one??
  16. Finished the latest upgrade on the V Star........Fairing is now permentally installed, I can ride again.........
  17. Well I finally got to see what I thought was the sun today and got out all those parts I been gathering up all winter and decided to put some of them on. Lets see I put on the used Wagner grill (with special instructions from Steve W, Sarge 46 and Eck) Saddle bag guards Reinforcements for the FRT crash guard that connected to the bottom of the floor board (found a posting someplace and made the brackets and putt'em on today. Rick butler seat that came back a week or two ago Fired up the o'l girl and let'r run awhile. Dang that sounded sweet. Installed the gremlin bell Sarge46 gave me at the last P.I.P. No pictures and yes I broke the rules but I am tired and this being laid off is tough work. I better find a job so I can rest up. Geten'r done in Minnesota Steve aka Bubber
  18. I've recently purchased an 85. Love it. Only 18K miles on it and its been well kept and inside etc. I've been working on getting it up to par etc and wonder what I may need to do next. It seems that I have to hold it at about half throttle to maintain a 65 mph, and it seems like it may be missing or hesitant. Running it up to 65 I dont feel the issue and when I romp on it - it really flies. I have new diaphragms installed as of last week. New plugs and wires installed. Been running sea foam through it. I can't figure it out but I do think I have something a miss.. Any suggestions or help is appreciated!
  19. Does anyone have any pictures of their installed braided ss lines. Just wondering how they look. Probably going to get them regardless, but would like to see them installed. Thanks
  20. Hello all, I purchased a Clearview windshield on ebay and installed it. The only thing I noticed is that the chrome mole (36) 4XY-28345-00-00 MOLE does not fit tightly against the shield. Has anyone installed a Clearview windshield, and is there a trick or something? Thanks, John
  21. I have 2 questions. The first is about the rear side reflectors that mount on the crash bar. I have installed the saddle bag trim rails which are of a smaller diameter then the crash bar. I have seen that many of you have the reflectors installed on the saddlebag trim rails so what was used to make up the difference so the reflectors stay in place? Also I have gotten the LED conversion reflector replacements. has anyone wired these up to run as running lights and then blink when the turn signal is on? If so any help would be appriciated.
  22. I have the a 1st generation Venture standard (1983), and was wondering if anyone has installed one of the audiovox cruise control systems on these bikes. Thanks
  23. Just installed a new spoiler on Jeans car. Cant work on the bike yet, so.....
  24. Hi, Bought another 84 first Gen last summer. The factory radio was out and a nicely installed radio /CD player had been installed in it's place. The PO told me that he could not get the radio to work and thought maybe it was bad... I really did not care all that much last year, but over the winter I decided to check it out. Could not get it to power up... Took it to the radio repair shop , the guy tested it and it worked fine.. Home.... of course not... Situation.. there are 3 wires coming from the noise filter box. Red, yellow and Black. The Radio guy told me yellow -- power all the time for memory red- from the ignition Black ground.. Sounds simple right... however cannot get anything to work I'm an electronics idiot and thought someone on here might have more knowledge.. Thanks, Clay
  25. I installed a new set of handlebars with 2" pullback. Just got back from a week end trip to Savannah GA. Rode about 500 miles in the most beautiful weather and I didn't get any pain in my upper back at all. I also got to test out my windshield with a vent in it and it worked well. It was warm and we had a great time!!!
