  1. Not sure if this is where this belongs, but I thought I'd post it up here. I recently installed an RSV seat on my 06 RSTD. It would have been much more difficult without the help of this site and a couple members. First off, I'd like to thank jemorrisonjr for being one of the first to PM me an offer help and parts. Great guy, if you haven't talked with him you should. I'd also like to thank Freebird for having such a good, informative site for Royal Stars. It's the best I've found. I'm not going to bore you with technical details, but the information I received here on doing this modification was spot-on and saved me some headaches. And the tech articles have on a couple modifications I've done. So I figured I'd post up a picture of my finished results. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f353/KoolKwad400/IMG_0215.jpg So again, thank you so much for the help, thanks for this site, and thanks to the members who offered help or wrote technical threads. You've all been a great help. M
  2. #1.The Flanders bars have two part numbers. The 650-08783 @ http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=650-08783&x=15&y=17 #2.and this part number 650-08373 @ http://www.sideroadcycles.com/ImportedMotorcycles/ImportHandlebars/ImportFat/ImportFLT_Type.html They look like possibly the same :confused24: Which is normally used on the RSTD #1-08783, or #2-08373 ? Thanks for any and all information / insight / warnings / links for best price / advice. I will appreciate it please. Fuzzy
  3. In the market for a new rear tire and was curious if anyone has had any experience with the Continental Milestones. Looking for how many miles you got out of them and how they handled on wet roads. Thanks in advance for the information. Phoenix
  4. As I am in Australia, product information is sometimes difficult if not impossible to get. I find that I can not rely on the glossy brocures and the dealers that I have contacted generally do not have the user information that I require. IT seems that their main interest is only to sell you something, and subsequently let you find out for yourself. So here is the guts of this post I am thinking about an upgrade from my old faithfull 1996 Royal Star, and have wondered if anyone has had the opportunity to test ride the latest, or any other version, of the FJR 1300. I would be most interested to hear their impressions about:322: this machine. And Also possibly what changes and or upgrades has Yamaha done over the last few models. In other words would any one recommend any particular model or year. Do you know of any glaring, obvious or not, faults or things to watch out for with this run of motorcycle. Any comment or feedback will be very appreciated. Thanks in anticapation of your comments. Winston66
  5. A lot of discussion on MC tyres gets entered on the site. Not intended to open more debate on which is best. Just wanted to post this for those interested in getting more information on MC tires. http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/de/en/continental/motorcycle/themes/download/technical_manual_uv.pdf
  6. I think that when a new members joins even as a trial member he or she should be required to fill in more information than the make of the bike they ride and the state he lives in.....I try to welcome all new NY members to the site via pm and offer an invitation to join the WNY group in planned events....more often then not , many new members put no information in their bio at all, not even their first name....hey, they now have access to our information...I feel we should know a little more about them ....... certain fields SHOULD be required to fill out when joining...
  7. Hi, Sometime in the dim past, that could be yesterday or six months ago depending on who is asking me a question, someone invited me to a meet in the Kootney's but I can't remember who that was and when. Then someone asked me if I had been to the Kootney meet last year. I know it is slim information to go on but if anyone is familiar with that event could you please drop me a line. 8. I recently purchased a 1986 Yamaha Venture, and am looking for a couple of things that it lacks from my previous Wing. Driver floorboards for one (with the heel / toe shifter) and a set of arm rests (folding if available) for the wife's seat. I've seen pics of bikes that have the boards, but am unable to locate any information on them. Granted, 25 years is too long for folks like Markland to keep stuff on their shelves, but if anyone has ANY information on MFG.'s or where to look, I'd appreciate it. A couple of other things I want to ask but hesitate since they will make me look REAL stupid. the cover on the left side of the fairing, over the radio, is that supposed to slide? Also, the previous owner has a baggie full of "intercom" equipment that is to be placed in our helmets. He never used them, and has no clue on how they work. Owners manual is also wrecked (ALL the pages are stuck together!) and I'm having no luck finding one on the web either. Any help will be appreciated! Tom Plaska
  9. I regret to say that I have removed myself from offering VR assistance. In order to provide assistance I have to post my phone numbers(s) for contact purpose. It's too bad that someone chooses to use the phone number information for something other than to request assistance. One rotten apple CAN spoil the whole bushel.
  10. Looks like I will be traveling to Phoenix in the next week or so to pick up my new 2009 Venture S, I am finalizing the deal as I type. I'm looking for information on a stealership or maybe some available garage space to do the 600 mile service, (oil change, rear diff fluid). I will be on my way back to West By God Virginia, a total of about 2200 miles. If anyone has information about a convenient stealership close to the interstate near there, please share that information with me. As is the same if anyone has the ability and desire to host/help for the change, that of course would be much appreciated. I am mechnaically inclined and do all of my own service, but that of course is when I have the facilities to do such. Thanks again for reading, and sooner then planned I am gonna be the proud owner of a 2009 seashell. Chris Parkersburg, WV
  11. I think that the vast majority of you already know this but some may have not given it much thought one way or the other. I do all that I can to make sure that your private information remains private here. That is why if you email another member, the email goes through the venturerider email system so that your actual email address is never displayed here. Your private emails are not given out here by me to any individual or to any company. The only way that somebody should be able to get your email address is to ask you for it. Same with your telephone numbers. Many of us have our numbers listed here for the VR Assistance list and in our profiles. Your profiles are NOT viewable by guests, expired members or (as of today) trial members. I like to give our trial members access to all the features that I can but since pretty much anybody can sign up for a trial membership, I've decided that your member information will only be viewable by other supporting members. Even at that, you have privacy options in your UserCP so that you can hide your information to everybody or make it available only to members on your "friends list", etc. I say all of that to say this. If you are ever contacted by a ex member or guest asking you for another members email address or telephone number, please do NOT give it out. The best thing to do would be to forward the request to the member whose information is being requested and let THEM decide whether or not they wish to provide it. I do all that I can to protect our privacy here, please help me in doing so. Thanks much. Don
  12. I'm just curious if anybody here has done much business with China and has had any packages shipped here to the US. I ordered a laptop battery on 11/17/2010 on ebay and I still haven't received it. After 5 weeks with no delivery and the information available via the tracking number having not been updates since 11/19/2010, the sender finally sent out another battery on 12/25/2010. Now that tracking information on that battery hasn't been updated since 12/27/2010. I asked that he use an express method for the second shipment, but he chose to use the same service in spite. How long should it take to get a small package from China? Jeannie ordered a handmade dress from China for our wedding after I ordered my battery and she got it last week already. I just don't know for sure if I should file a complaint with ebay or just be more patient. Seven weeks seems like an awful long time. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Bill
  13. I got an email from Sean that he is now offering a new choke knob that matches the key cover that several of us have on our RSVs. I think it looks great and will be ordering one soon. He says that they are not yet on his website so to use the information in this flier if you wish to order one. http://www.venturerider.org/images/starparts.jpg
  14. As we get older, and the fact we are targets for cagers, chances are, we, or our family may need medical services in the future, which may include blood transfusions But....more and more it is becoming evident that bloodless surgery is the best for patients. As some may know, I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and so I refuse blood for religious reasons. This is NOT meant to be a religious discussion! I wanted to provide some links where you can get information on the use of blood so you can make your own decisions. For me...it is because I believe that is what God wants for us...but it also is just GOOD MEDICINE! One link is a well known PBS news show. Another is a preview of a video put out by Jehovah's Witnesses. I promise that the fulll length video is not "preachy"...it is a logical and very good examination of the use of blood and an explaination of alternatives to blood transfusion. Again....this is not meant to push my beliefs on anyone (that's not what we do anyway) but is an interesting subject that could affect us individually or our family. SO IT"S GOOD TO KNOW ABOUT! Here's the links www.pbs.org/wnet/need-to-know/health/video-blood-test-what-you-dont-know-about-blood/3036/ www.watchtower.org/e/vcae/article_01.htm www.jw-media.org/gbl/gbl02e.htm you will see there are several links for more information on the Watchtower site. ...again...these videos do not push the beliefs of the Witnesses....but do provide good information. IF anyone wants to discuss the religious aspects of this subject I would be willing to do so via PM's. If anyone, after seeing the previews and checking out the other links, want a copy of the DVDs distributed by JW's, I could arrange to get a copy for them. PLEASE don't turn this into a religious discussion or I'm sure it will be pulled by the moderators.
  15. It's still really beaking my heart parting out the Venture. Oh well, got to move on sometime I guess. I'm staying here though. Too much good company and information. Besides, I know there are other LT's here.
  16. The date for my Fall Foliage Ride has beern changed from the 9th to the 16th. Please Re enter your information on the calendar. Here's a link to the thread which has a link to the calendar... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=53316
  17. OK folks...I guess it's time for me to update the VRAssitance list. If you are not on it and want to be or if your telephone number or services offered has changed, please get it updated over the next few days. To be added to, removed or update your information, simply click on UserCP in the upper menu bar and then "edit details" in the left menu. Scroll to the bottom to add or edit your information. Probably early next week, I will get it all together and create a new .pdf document and Excel file for those who wish to can download.
  18. Thought this link may be of help to those of you with GW's.. http://www.wingtechtips.com/1800EPSS/epss/pages/page_index.htm
  19. Check your GPSs... Recall information.
  20. Just completed the Jason mod, AIS plugged, Steering head bearings. Will do carb sync as soon as my carbtune comes in this week. Appreciate all those that have put into the tech library on this site. The 12.00 is nothing for this kind of information, if you haven't paid up, DO IT. Best value you'll ever get for the money. Again Thank you for taking the time to document how to do these improvements.
  21. I am looking for a set of front fairings for a 89 VR because the previous owner dropped the bike and broke both fairings. I have been offered a set of fairings from a 83 VR and would like to know if they will fit a 89. I am not that knowledgeable about what the interchangeability is from year to year. Can someone point me in the right direction as to where I can find this information? Thanks. Jim
  22. Sold my 83 venture this morning. Not by choice but eating is always nice. Thanks to everyone that has helped me with information on my bike. The new owner said he will join on the club. Again thanks.

  24. I'm needing to replace the shocks on my sidecar, simple coilover is fine, current length is about 11 - 11.5 inch and I have evidence that what is on there, whatever that is, is not quite adequate. Can someone give me information on how to determine what I need?
  25. I was wondering where is everybody staying at Meramec State Park in MO. It's going to be here before we know it. I was looking up some of the sites on the computer. I came up with this one below, but I don't know if this is the correct place or not. I also want to know if the dates are the same as what I copied. August 23rd - 25th.
