  1. Thoughts on the best pipes to get for a more throaty sound? What are these slipons I get running across on the internet? I don't want a LOUD bike, but I do want a nice sounding, nice idling, can hear it when you get on it sound.
  2. On the gps's with ear phone plug in, is it possible to get a cord to connect into my 86 royale vox so I can hear the text to speach ? I want to be able to hear the gps say--In 500 yrds turn left on Elm--through the headsets. Thanks for any help. Gil
  3. I have a Zumo 550 and have it paired with my Blackberry. I have the Nolan helmet wired with the J&M headset. The problem is although I can hear the person they can not hear me when I speak. Any ideas?
  4. Hi to all, I have a 99 venture and on the weekend my cassette would not eject. When I hit the button I could hear a beep through my radio. Has anyone else experienced this before? Screaming Red
  5. I just rode my Venture home from the dealer after the clutch basket exchange on the gears. All I can say is I "think" I can hear a small difference and it might just be in my head because I can definitely still hear the whine and chirping. It was a warranty repair and the basket that went in looked exactly like the one that came out. Even the mechanic couldn't tell the difference. I think it's a sound I'll have to live with until I trade it to a wing or a newer version of the Venture without the whine. Eddie
  6. Can anyone verify for me where the shim placement is for the needle valve modification. I want to make this mod. I read the article in the tech section but it is not clear to me where to move or add the shim. I think it goes under the plastic piece on the needle but want to be sure before I do this. I also was hoping to hear from some people who have made this mod without jetting the carbs. Is it worth the effort? thanks for the help
  7. My brother sent this to me and it's definately something to ponder. And they're building bikes!! http://www.coatesengine.com/ http://www.coatesengine.com/videos.html http://www.coatesengine.com/motorcycle.html I wish the motorcycle video were of a better quality, and from what I could hear the thing sounded kinda funky. But they're taking orders.... Wonder how a Venture V4 would behave..
  8. hi all i have a question about the cb on the bike. this past weekend i used my 3/4 face helmet with the headset. i have not used this setup in over 2 years. i normaly use a 1/2 helmet without a hedset. the problem is i could not hear anyone talking on ch19. i ask for a radiocheck several times and never got a come back. i could hear the am/fm thru the hs and dash speakers. the rx icon was on the control head and when i pushed the tx button the icon would come on the control head also. the squech was set at 1 but all i could hear was noise/static. so i set the squech at 2 and the cb was just quite. last nite i had my wife go across the street and talk to me on a handheld cb i could hear her talking just fine thru either the hs or the speakers. but she could not hear me talk all she got was static/ noise everytime i pushed the talk button from either the driver conn. or the passenger conn. are you suppose to hear your voice thru the hs while you are talking/transmitting? yesterday morning i did hear a trucker on the cb thru the dash speakers but i didn't have my helmet with the head set on so i just turned the cb off, to concentrate on mornig rush hour traffic. any ideas. thanks in advance don:(
  9. The weather finally warmed up enough to take my "new-to-me" '84 Venture for a spin. Everything seems fine except for an occasional scraping noise when the bike is rolling slow (coming to a stop or moving around in my garage). Not sure if it disappears with a little more speed or if I just can't hear it. Don't think it's the brakes. Anyone come accross this ? (I sure don't want to have a wheel lock up on me at 100 kph or something like that.)
  10. Can you hear your driveshaft? No...not the fictional band that Charlie was in on the show 'Lost'. I changed the driveshaft gear lube on my 07 Venture last week, and put around 250 miles on this weekend. After about 100 miles or so, I began to notice a slight gear noise...sort of a low hum, that of course varied with the torque load on the wheel. I never had noticed this before, and its NOT the whine from the clutch/transmission. This noise is not really noticeable until speeds reach about 30-40 mph, radio off, and it was much hotter this weekend than it has been in a while. Temps were near 90 degrees. SO...I stopped and checked the level, and it was fine. I had replaced the gear lube with Amsoil, and wondered if maybe its not entirely compatible with the remaining YamaLube that may have still been in the housing, possibly thinning it out. Actually my question is, can anyone else hear the driveshaft on their bike? Its not terribly loud, in fact if the radio is on, I cant hear it at all...just wondering if I'm noticing it now, as opposed to it actually getting noisy...I just dont remember ever hearing it, but I do normally ride with the radio on. I did change it out AGAIN, put new Amsoil in, and the old Amsoil had darkened to match the previous oil's color. I'll get a chance to ride it later on next week. So...Driveshaft noise...normal or not?
  11. Hello again everyone. Boy, I am just full of questions today. haha Seems that I just don't get the power out of my stereo that my buddy gets on his 93 RSV. When he plays his stereo while riding, I can hear it. Faintly, but I can hear it. When I play mine, I have to crank it to full 30 and although I can hear it, it just isn't as loud enough and it is very distorted. When I am using my headset, I can't make out the music. Oh, I can hear music playing but it is more noise than anything else. And again, distorted. And with the constant open mike picking up all the outside noise, wind, bike, my own breathing, it is more nerve racking than anything. Also very hard to talk back and forth with my wife. She can barely hear me and I can hardly make out what she is saying. ANOTHER THING: Thought my buddy and I would try out the CB part of our system last weekend. His bike was about 50 feet away from mine. When I talked to him through my headset, it was so freaken loud, I could hear it come from his bike. It scared him and he had to turn it down. When he talked to me, I could hardly hear him at all, and my volume was turned up all the way (30). Any ideas? Is my stereo defective? Are there any not so obvious settings that I have not adjusted? Thanks.
  12. I recently purchased a 1987 Venture Royale and when the headsets are on the rider of the 1987 can hear the everything, but cannot transmit to others. Does anybody have any ides?
  13. Not sure what my problem is, but I really can't hear much from the headsets on the highway...stereo or CB. I hear something but is usually so garbled I can't tell. I am better off to use the built in speakers on the dash to hear anything. Is this because of the headsets or what? I just bought the bike recently, and it doesn't matter what set I use the results are the same. By the way, I can hear music/CB when just sitting or even when bike is idling, but it seems to real tinny. Would it be worth my while to wire in a new pair of earphones from say a radio or tapeplayer or such? Thanks.
  14. As you can see, have a couple of problems. If I could get the first one, radio, fixed, I probably wouldn't hear the exhaust leak. LOL Problem no. 1 no sound from the speakers. The radio comes on, lights the station no.s up, but no sound. Have checked to see if headphone switch is off and it is. Actually can hear static, but no music, and volume doesn't do anything. Need help!! Problem no. 2 exhaust leak. Know where leak is, it is at the joint where the muffler attatches to the header pipe, right side. My question is, there was a thread about using copper pipe for a gasket instead of paying Yamaha's rip off price for the gasket. Have searched but can't find it. Does anyone remember what I am talking about?? Thanks Don H.
  15. I have noticed recently a whine coming from the rear end when going through left curves. It seems most noticable when the bike is in 4th and 5th gear. I do not hear it when going through right hand curves. I have read about clicking noises in earlier posts but this is a loud whine. I also am certain that it is not the tranny whine you hear on metric bikes. Anyone got any ideas? Is it a bad bearing? I have not been able to get to the shop yet to have it checked out.
  16. OK, chaulk this up for a new owner getting to know his bike. When I turn the ignition switch to the "on" position, everything lights up fine... but I also hear a clicking noise for about one second or so. Help a newbie learn more. What is the sound that I am hearing. Thx. in advance.
  17. okay folks, i need the very best helmet speakers money can buy. they must have a broad frequency range with good bass responce. ive got a soso set but i'm half deaf and certain frequencies are hard to hear. where can i get some. just put a new sirius radio on my vstar and i want to be able to here it.
  18. I know there are several hams on this forum...yall are welcome to listen to our local ARES/RACES emergency drill on this audio stream: http://216.167.132.7:8000/listen.m3u Open that link with your media player, and you should hear our audio feed. The feed will be active most of today and probably, tomorrow also. This is a communications drill. There are several simulated emergencies that are ongoing. You will hear 2 meters on the left channel, and 440 on the right channel, with 2 meters having priority in the stream. Of course, anyone can listen, you do not have to be an Amateur Radio operator to listen in. Signal reports are welcome!
  19. I have an 06 RSV and am using the JM helmet sets. I can hear my own voice in the headset, and that OK but the feedback is too loud. I must talk fairly loud so that passenger can hear on intercom but it doesn't need to be that loud in MY ears. Volume control doesn't adjust feedback volume. Can the feed back volume be adjusted??
  20. Well, it appears that either my amp or tuner has coughed its guts. It was working ok. Then, the tuner started throwing feedback noise and not picking up stations. Figured it was the antenna. Installed a new antenna and thought all was great. Then it did it again. Went from great radio to nothing but noise. When the radio and intercom are off I can hear a small bit of white noise from the speakers. Also, I do not hear the CB through the dash speakers when I turn the squelch off. I see RX on the CB screen. I think one unit or the other is getting warmed up then cutting out. I don't have headsets yet. So, don't know if the intercom is working. All buttons except AM/FM work. That one is stuck in FM. I cleaned the upper display by taking it apart and using a good contact cleaner. I have to Ohm out the buttons yet. So, any suggestions would be helpful. Pinwall Cycle has the amp and tuner off of a working bike for $45.00 each and shipping. Figure I have to split the LH fairing to get to the radio. JB
  21. I want to show my patriotism by placing some small American Flags near the tips of the antennas. What better way to show your patriotism by sticking an american flag on your Japaneese motorcycle. :usa: Does anyone have any vendor recommendations? I could probably pick them up at any flag store, but I thought I would ask hear first. Also how do you guys mount your ipods onto your scooters, the handlebars? Are there any photos out there? Thanks
  22. There is a real story here that goes back 18 years. this is sad, but not over yet. This is there house Friday night about 8:30 p.m. No one was in there. This is next to Mary and me. Sending a few pictures. I will tell the story some day if one would to hear.
  23. Is this normal? When I change the sound system to the headset setting, I hear the music over the speakers in the rear. It is not very loud, but enough to hear it clearly. The headsets do work when plugged in, but can still hear the sound out of the external speakers. Is this normal? No sound out of the front speakers in the headset mode.
  24. and a touch of snow. But I hear that Springs a comming.
  25. You gotta hear this, brought a tear to my eye, my sister-in-law heard this on the radio in Houston, Tx. A remarkable phone call from a 12-yr old boy to Houston radio station KSBJ FM 89.3. So profound, the station has it posted on their website. Click below to listen to it. It's short. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCdZwitrNoY]YouTube - Logan, the Sky Angel Cowboy[/ame]
