  1. Had to light the pilot on the gas heat stove. What happened to the AC weather?
  2. Hmm twice now, 1st time it happened almost cost me an accident involvement and tonight it happened again but just a puzzlement. The first time I wasn't sure what had happened but twice? Hmm here's what is happening, hopefully someone could lead me in the right direction for help.. 1st time it happened, I was cruising along at 60 to 70 mph in 5th, and went to pass a car (2 lanes same direction) but out in behind of me a sports car traveling super fast came up on me very fast.. wow, caught ME by surprise! So I dropped the hammer in 5th gear and there was a very noticeable lack of acceleration and a higher rev of the engine and eventually, things started to speed up.. This wasn't the typical too high a gear for the need, it was different. 2nd time this happened, I was cruising along at 55-65 mph in 5th.. just needed to scoot around a slow moving vehicle so I dropped it in 4th and dropped the hammer... and the same thing happened.. wow.. I've never felt this with any of the bikes I've owned and I'm thinking that perhaps my clutch is dying (why not, everything else on this bike has eventually died and been replaced lol).. I climbed Mount Washington no probs, and the bike slows down properly with engine de-acceleration.. I cannot duplicate this symptom in low gear.. like dropping the hammer in first gear doesn't give me the same symptoms but it's not as spirited as when I discovered my rev limiter a while back.. So, what do you think is wrong here, and what are my options to get this working properly again? No warranty on the bike here in Canada but there is when I visit the USA. Thanks in advance!
  3. My wood brace slipped out and my bike fell forward down until the damper rod bottomed out. Both cap bolts were out and the spacer and springs. I was removing the drain plug on the right fork when it happened. Did I damage anything when this happened. After securing the bike the correct way i proceeded to change the oil in the right fork that went as planned. When I removed the drain plug on the left fork the one with the TRAC anti-dive design nothing would come out. And yes I even poured 100 cc in till it came to the top. Did i damage something or is it some other issue. Thanks in advance. danyoder50@comcast.net
  4. How about taking the high road in this contest; Have to take it a little bit easy Ken8143. I mean, how unfair is it to have a full blown battle of wits with those who are unarmed and defenseless? Kinda like those two people from Elizabethtown,Pa who walked into a bar. You'd think one of them would have seen it. I hear this really happened in Elizabethtown PA; Ken8431 was out for a walk and comes to a river. He sees Dallas on the opposite bank. "Hey buddy!" he shouts, "How can I get to the other side?" Dallas looks up the river then down the river and shouts back, "You ARE on the other side.":rotfl:
  5. '07 Venture with 25k on it...output shaft was coming out and it broke gears. Anyone heard of this happening before? It is covered under warranty, but I am concerned and wondered if it had happened to others.
  6. This actually happened a week ago... I had just left work and in a rush to get home so I was pushing a little. The right lane was slow so I jumped in the left lane and was doing ok until this young girl in front of me puts on her right turn signal and suddenly starts slowing down until she is stopped waiting for cars in the right lane to pass. When she finally gets over I blow past her and look over to see her looking at me with a 'what did I do wrong' look on her face. THAT'S when I realized that me on the Venture with my black half helmet and black leather jacket and flashing headlight must have looked like a cop in her young mind and she thought I was pulling her over. (Yes, I did laugh) I've noticed others looking close or slowing down when I get behind them. Has anyone else had someone pull over for you?
  7. On a recent trip, I was cruising along on my 88VR at around 120km/hr (about 75mph) under cruise control when suddenly, my stop/run button popped from run to stop. I thought I had pressed the button but it happened several more times after I reengaed the crusie control. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas on what caused this?
  8. I just found out today that a friend of mine is on life support and in a coma, he is 48 yrs old and has a wife and too beatiful little girls. He had just bought himself a new Harley Fat Bob and it was only his third or forth time out on it, this guy is a highly experienced rider. It happened during rush hour on the QEW in Burlington. Apparently for some unknown reason he was forced to brake extremely hard and lost control of the bike. A doctor and nurse Happen to be right there and tended to him imiadiatly until the ambulance arrived. Witness say he was not speeding or driving recklessly, but no one can say for sure what happened. I am still trying to find out more but I can't reach familly members and the hospital is saying very little at this time to any one who is not direct familly
  9. Hey, it's early Sunday morning, and the mind's wandering. Some of you may remember?? But a few years back after VWI? a box of Bakersfield dirt was packed up by Hdhtr and sent out to a member who couldn't attend the rally, but were there in spirit. The deal was that the dirt was to be spred on a tarp and a picture of the member was to be taken while riding thru it... then posted to the board. Afterwards the dirt forwarded on to the next member. For all this trouble a VWI patch was mailed to the VR Dirt Rider. It was a great idea!!... I'm not even sure if this was something that happened in the pre-crash days?? Anyway, what happened to the dirt?? Don't want it... just curious.
  10. This is a must see to believe it. The biker in the Red shirt is Mark Joseph, who runs the Gipson Tire Store in Millbrook. His buddy was in a pickup behind him filming the whole thing. This repeats 3 or 4 times, with each showing going a little bit slower, so you can really see what happened. Notice the biker coming at you duck. This footage was taken on the Needles Hwy near Sturgis. This all happened in less than two seconds
  11. My riding buddie (who happens to be computer illiterate) has a 1998 Tour Deluxe with right at 100,000 miles. This past summer while on short rides around our county roads his bike would without warning QUIT. This happened more than several times but only once required trailering home. The one time I was with him when it happened we had just left a restaurant (ice cream) and had traveled less than a mile and it died. Within 3 minutes and without any trouble shooting it started and ran beautiful the rest of the way home. All we did was let it sit with the key off for a couple minutes and it started and away we went. Because of this problem and at the recommendation of our 'factory' mechanic, the carbs were taken off and rebuilt. Sure made a heck of a difference in performance. I'm not sure if the tank was taken off and cleaned or not. I do believe the filter was changed. Unfortunately the dog-gone thing won't mis-behave while in the care of our local Yamaha shop. Any theories or similar circumstances happen to any of you ??
  12. Well today wasnt the best day I have ever had at work.........I stepped on a rubber mat next to my CNC machine at work and as I did it slipped out from under me sending me to the floor landing on my arse.............didnt hurt when it happend, but it is starting to hurt up and down my back now..............This was preceded by me missing 2 days, Wed, & Thurs, due to my scitica bothering me so bad I could hardly walk, sit or move without being in complete agony. Dr. prescribed painkiller for me and that did the trick, today when I went to work I was painfree for the first time in two weeks and then this happens, I filled out an accicent report as soon as it happened and notified both supervisors that it happened, I have a feeling that when I go back to work Mon, the facility manager is going to make me go to the Dr, and get a release to work before he will let me back in the shop.........he has done that to me once already when I had carpal tunnel problem. Just took another pain pill to see if I can get rid of it, And today was the first day I rode my bike to work in 10 days............man life can sure be a drag.............
  13. So, I have had time to reply to a few posts this week. Been able to read threads and posts. Why you ask? Because my right leg doesn't bend like the legs of a bird!!!!!!!! I stepped on some gravel at work and landed my right leg against the curb. Tried to flex my toes up against my shin. Heard and felt a pop and fell to the ground. Apparently I ripped my calf muscle. So, I see stars and go lightheaded for about 15 minutes. I rode to work so I figured I had about a half hour before the pain really set in. Got some help and backed the bike out of the lot. Drove home using my left foot with the right propped on the peg. Maggie had the garage open and I dropped the kickstand and she helped me off. Could not use the leg at all by then. Kinda new what had happened. So, now I have a cane and the local old folks with walkers can lap me. Going to occupational health Tuesday for an exam. Been off since Wednesday. Since it happened on base I am not allowed to return until the exam. Goes under worker's comp. And since I work on the 3rd floor without an elevator they consider it unsafe. Oh Well, no lost days or pay. JB Oh. insult to injury - the only pistol grip handle cane available has freaking flowers and vines printed on it!!! I will get something different if I am told to use the cane for a while.
  14. Well, I was in Woodland Park, CO a couple of weeks back getting my youngest nephew married off (I got to be the holder of the shotgun). While there, On top of seeing the sights, I shot ColoNavy a couple of PM's and did a little sight seeing. This of course involved seing a few of our favorite sights, primarily the summitt of Pike's Peak. We drove the Dodge up to the top. It was arond 9:00 AM up there when we pulled in. The air temp was 34 degrees according to my truck's computer. The chill index was 19. Nice, brisk wind blowing out of the south. We did our usual lookin' around the top, snappin' pictures as we went. Then we came back around to the sign by the summitt house, the one with the name of the mountain and the elevation. Now everyone has their picture taken in front of the sign, it's expected. I remembered that I just happened to have one of my tubas in the back of the truck, momma had the camera. I also happened to have a Kelly mouthpiece in the horn, it's made of Lexan, that means it won't stick to moist lips in freezing temps. So I grabbed the horn and hollered at the wife and this is the result. http://i38.tinypic.com/2072455.jpg
  15. Has any one else had the problem of dozing off on long rides. It has happened to me several times. I usually catch myself before actually falling asleep. The first time it happened we were heading home from Knoxville. I think it was around 2 AM and we were on the expressway. Ron had the music off and there I was fighting to stay awake. I know it is not a good thing. Just wondered if it happened to anyone else. I know Mini is going to make fun of me, but I thought I would ask if it is just me. Yama Mama
  16. Holy Cow! I swear that we are a bunch of Masochists, I dont have the exact miles, but it is over 1700 for us in 58 hours. What a weekend, I can say it enough to all Thank you for all your support in this effort. I wont go long winded as I am pretty much dead right now, but you all know the folks that put this together. Please give them a big thanks as this wouldn't have happened with out several key players, and I'm not talking about me. I'm going to bed and will bore your ears off tomorrow...Good Night!
  17. Make sure to latch and lock BOTH saddlebag cover latches. I left one latched but unlocked out of pure forgetfulness and guess what happened? On a very rough road close to home the lid flew off at 20-25 mph and slid down the road on its top of course. Now I have to get it repaired knowing if I had taken the extra minute or two to lock the latches, it wouldn't have happened. I always seem to learn from stupid mistakes
  18. This was rather devastating.I have kind of worked my way thru it for now but Dale is pretty messed up over it. To tell the whole story, about a week before the incident happened to haylie, she had went over to the neighbors ( the new ones to neighborhood who live on the other side of the scum) to see if their little boy could play he is 4 1/2...his mother told haylie no she couldnt play with him for a while becuase he said she had touched his private part.....she came home told me i was i was blown away.I questioned her and she told me she accidentally touched him with her foot while they were swimming in our pool. I had intended to go talk to the mom and then everything happened and it got put on the back burner . The boys mother had stopped over after she found out what happened to haylie and we talked about it and it was my understanding that all was cool.....an innocent mishap while two young kids are playing. She was pretty flipped out about what happened to haylie, hugged me etc. Yesterday our detective calls me and wants to talk to me. Apparently the little boy is acting out and making accusations....he said he was in our house in H's bedroom and she took her clothes off in front of him and touched his private thru his pants. And then that Dale and I came in and took their picture with a camera. I was floored.....i said we didnt take his picture and the detectives and i went thru my camera and all the pics on my pc to make sure. I also said anytime he was in the house I shooed em back outside cause i make them play outside. of course then came more questions.....do you have porn on your computer? specifically child porn....NO.......would you let our experts go thru your computer if need be......YES. Dale was sleeping so they wanted to talk to him when he got up. He went down to the station and got the same questions more or less. They appologized for having to do this after all weve been thru but explained anytime a child makes a statement they have to check it out. Apparently they even sent the boy down for a forensic interview like Haylie had to do. They told us theye were a lot of discrepincies as to what the parents said he said and what he actually said at the interview. We can certainly understand the need and urgency to check this out but man o man can you imagine what we are feeling now. After we both finished they pretty much told us that most likely this is the last we will hear from them on it, I dont think they believe that any of it happened and that the MOM is a little off and over paranoid and may be putting ideas in the boys head. We dont understand why this woman would want to hurt us or accuse us of stuff...its like something happened to Haylie so now she is sure something has happened to her boy. Everytime things start to settle down a little someone throws another log on the fire. I questioned H again about all this and in fact the detective told me not to press her about it after i told him i asked her again.he doesnt want her worrying about anything else. so apparently they think this is a dead subject....lets hope so....Ive had enough. so this upset just caused us to say the h*** with it lets stay home....and the weather looks like rain most of the time for eureka springs and i dont need to be riding that far back and forth in the rain after the hospital time so here we sit again. My daughter is here from ohio now..so maybe dale and i will at least get a night out alone sometime this weekend. Id like to just run away and forget it all, but i know that doesnt work.
  19. I just happened to see this post in a local classified ad. Its for a motorcycle tent trailer, doesnt look too bad, if anyone is interested, let me know I can go look at it for you. http://www.usedregina.com/classified-ad/6854873 Brian
  20. On the Delph Dark Side Forum some people are reporting "exploding tires"... Anyone have any problems mounting their CT? How much pressure did it take to pop the bead? I told my Buddy not to use more than 80 lbs... It seems most of the explodes have happened over 100 lbs although 1 user claims his happened at less than 100... There is some that are saying it only happens to the Japanese Tires... But I think that's some people's opinion.. Be careful mounting these tires as an explosion will ruin your wheel and rotor not to mention what it could do to a person too close... Noone is reporting any personal injuries as of yet. http://forums.delphiforums.com/DarkSiding/messages?msg=295.1
  21. Well it started out with a plug fouling (right front). I had been messing with the carbs and after the fouling happened, re-synched them( of course they were off). Figured that was the problem. Put in a new plug and off I went. Happened again. Being on the highway helped keep it clean, but definitely not running great. I figure it's one of two things, a carb problem or a firing problem. The coil and plug wire are easier to check. Plug cap came back within tolerances, primary coil readings were ok but definitely on the high side. Didn't get a needle quiver for the secondary (not looking at the manual, not sure if that's the correct name) test. So I am going to assume that it is the coil or possibly the wire. Anyone else have any thought on this?
  22. Rode up Lookout Mtn. over the weekend. Just installed new pads on the rear, cleaned the calipers, etc. Refilled the fluids. Halfway down the mountain, NO rear brakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now its tough turning hard left or right, 30-40 degrees inclined down with the front brakes only! Sure changes the dynamics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any idea as to where to start to look? This happened once before? Once the rears sat for a bit, I could pump them back up, but got kinda hairy there for awhile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Well it finally happened....I "gently" laid the bike over on it's side last weekend which happened to be right up against a tree and cracked the windshield. Would anyone out there happen to have a stock windshield they are willing to part with to fit an 02 ???
  24. Hi I am looking for a drive shaft for a 1986 and newer Venture Royal. Today I broke mine on my trike. Don't ask just that I did something I shouldn't of. All I need is the drive shaft. All I can stay is that it made so much noise when it broke and by the time I got it stopped I thought the hole bike was gone. Thank god I was only going slow .But nothing else happened to it so if you know were I can get a new or used more then likely used driveshaft please let me know. Now I have one more thing to fix. I will take the one I have into a driveshaft shope and see what they will say and if it can be fixed. Thanks Guys Bikenut:sick::crying:
  25. Just got in from the Houston m&e ride. Had a fantastic time, met some of the greatest folks, had good food, can't beat that. I want to thank everyone who came and helped to make it a success. Without y'all, it wouldn't have happened. Pics will be posted later. Don and Linda H.
