  1. Has anyone ever lifted a first gen on to a work table with an engine hoist? I have a sturdy table and hoist. Purchasing a lift table is out of reach financially but I like the table height for winter service. Any list wisdom on this?
  2. Just read this on Wired.com.... http://www.wired.com/autopia/2012/10/roadkill-strobes/ Maybe find a way to change a 2nd Gen whine to a sound like an animal in distress and add "predator" eyes to the front?
  3. Going to try this again. Anybody have an old , bad, removed, ignition coil from a 2nd gen laying around ?? If you replaced a coil, could you pull the plug wire out of the " old " ignition coil, and take a photo, or let me know, if the plug wire can be " Re-Installed " after you pull out the old one ?? ie: is there a pointed SCREW inside the hole the same as on the 1st Gen Ignition coils ??? I'm trying to figure out if I can replace the plug wire on these coils, but do not want to destroy a good one in the process. Any help here, appreciated, thanks.

    Price check!

I have a friend with a first gen that needs a set of progressive fork springs. The best price I can find on them is at OEM for $59. Anyone know where they may be cheaper?.
  5. Ok, we all know that on 1st Gen coils, you can eaisly remove the plug wire from the coil, and the spark plug cap. On the 2nd gen coils. the plug wire appears to " NOT " be removable, ( or replaceable ) from the coil end, of the plug wire. SO-- I was looking at my right front Ignition Coil on my 08, yesterday, and where the plug wire go's into the Coil, it appears as if there is a " Sealant " applied around the wire where it mounts into the coil. What I am getting at here, is I would like to replace the Plug Wires, with some type of " Shielded Spark Plug Wires " . Anyway, so I am wondering if maby I Could remove , and replace the wires from these coils. Does anybody, have a Used ( ie: removed and replaced coil ) laying around in their garage. If So, any chance I could get you to take the old coil, and pull " out " the plug wire, and take some close Ups, of what the hole looks like, and what is inside the hole after you pull out ( ie: remove ) the old plug wire. I hope this all makes some sence, any way thanks to anybody who might be able to accomplish this, I'm working on " Reduceing " Ignition Noise on the AM radio I have installed on my RSTD. And installing Shielded Plug wires might be of some help. ---------------------------------- Next Qustion : ??? Just curious, has anybody, Installed the 1st Gen Ignition Coils, on a 2nd Gen Bike ???? this would obviously solve the plug wire problem, if the coils will work on the 2nd gen bike . I make this point, because it very easy to replace wires on the 1st gen coils, and lots of them avialable, I allready have two of them, and would only have to find 2 more to do the job, if this is possible. ?? --------------------
  6. Bad front wheel bearings 540-309-3601 if you can help. 04 second Gen 3pm Mon
  7. Anyone here come from a 1st gen and then bought a BMW K1200LT Touring bike? I am playing with the idea as you can get them cheap with low miles compared to the Goldwings, plus they are physically smaller. I am eyeballing a 2001 with 20K miles on it for $6500. Do they ride like the 1st gen? I am just looking at about $3500-$4000 to make my 83 100% reliable and fixing 2nd gear as well as forks, etc... and only a little bit more will get me a bike that shops will actually touch, you can actually get parts for, and I will feel comfortable taking on a 1500 mile ride without worrying where the Uhaul rental centers are to get back home. Second Gen is out as I dont like the harley style bikes. They are pretty, just not my style and I dont like forward controls. And I dont have $12,000 for a 10 year old goldwing.
  8. My winter project is going to be building a bobber style venture, with Tweety power, maybe more. Probably be a multiple year process, like Tweety has been. I have most of motor components already, VMax heads, final drive & most of Vboost. 1300 block. I am interested if a 1st gen block will fit in a 2nd gen frame. I don't care about the head bracing, I will compensate for loss of that structure somehow. I like the single frame tube from the neck back style. It would allow me to use a standard tank on bike. Also like the appearance of the rear fender for the Indian look I am after. I am not after a chopper style, but more along a retro look. Single seater with old style sprung seat for one. I want to stay with mono shock set up for better handling. I have two 1st gen bare frames here, but I am not warm & fuzzy with what I would need to do to modify one to get what I am after. Gary
  9. Does anyone have a CB for a first gen they don't need. I need one to replace a bad one.
  10. I'm a Electronic Engineer, and have a set of 1st gen radio/intercom parts to "tinker with" on their way to me. In preparation to figure out how these things work and how to fully troubleshoot/ repair them does anyone have any detailed information about the setup? connector pinouts wiring diagrams? etc?? I am hoping to come up with a document to help others keep their radios working and to troubleshoot them. I also have a secret plan to upgrade my 1st gen with a stock radio. I need the space in the fairing for my Ham radio transcever, so the car stereo and it's mount will need to go. Also as a note, if anyone has any dead radio parts they are willing to sell cheap, I am certian I will need more "victims" to be disected on the bench. I might be able to find a common failure point if I go through enough of them.
  11. Does anyone know of a reverse gear kit for 2nd Gen RSVs?
  12. Around 2:30 pm saw a really nice looking Blonde 1st Gen MKII cross the Puyallup River heading to the Old Canery. Was wondering if it was someone from this group.
  13. Does anybody know what other year rear end will work in a 87 first gen? I have not taken the bike apart yet but from what i have read here it sounds like a rear end nut issuse.
  14. Drove past a blue 1st gen at the intersection of Greenbay and Waukegan roads near thw Waukegan Il airport at about 6:00 tonight. Anyone from the forums?
  15. Has anyone developed a parking brake for a 2nd gen. Now that I have a sidecar, I can't use my kickstand anymore.
  16. Rode my 1st gen to work today, i'ts first long ride and noticed a load whine every time i got off the gas. Fast or slow clutch in or out. Sounds like i'ts coming from the left side. The bike runs and shifts very good except for this whine. Goes away while on the gas. Anybody had this issuse?
  17. Here are the pictures I promised you of my new used '87 First Gen. Hope you approve of it.
  18. A guy I know is selling this '82 Wing Interstate, and I thought some of you more knowledgeable 1st gen guys would like to see it. It's a sweet little ride, but I have no idea if it's worth what he's asking. Just curious. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/wat/mcy/3220528461.html
  19. I would like to find some stock exhaust pipes for a 2nd Gen in the Vegas area.
  20. I found a baby 1st gen parked outside a store today. I had never seen one before. It turned out to be a Yamaha Vision. I googled the model and it is a 550 V-twin. But it sure lookd like a V-4 with two pipes coming off the front cylinder. I didn't examine it closely. Nice looking bike. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_XZ_550
  21. I was installing my JBM carb diaphragms, and I got a little to energetic getting the metal ring out and a carb slide broke apart. Anybody have one that I can buy? The condition of the diaphragm isn't important, I've got the new one to install. It's for a 1st Gen, MK II (89). Thanks, Frank D.
  22. Need a second gen seat. Don't need the foam or the cover just the frame.... Experimenting with an idea I had .
  23. I ride a 2007 RSTD. Bought it new and have loved the bike so far. My wife and I have been to several states enjoying this bike, and I am completely in love with the V4. Having said that, I have this constant thought in the back of my mind that I would like to get a full dresser. While I know I could buy a newer or new model Venture and be fine, I wonder if I should just spend a a considerably less amount and get a good low mileage clean maybe 2000 to 2007 model one. When I look at these bikes on the used market, they look like there is no difference, other than color, than the new ones. So, the reasoning is, why would I buy a newer year model when I could save quite a bit of money and get the exact same bike just a few years older. Is there something I don't know? Do the earlier 2nd Gen model years have less HP and Torque, or is there some kind of bug in the earlier ones that has been corrected since then? I don't want to get into a situation of buying a bike that has less performance than my RSTD does. Okay, here's the second part of this question. Is there a huge performance difference between the 1st Gens and 2nd Gens? I'm not completely sure I would consider a bike with the years on it that a 1st Gen would have, but I ran across a 1993 1st Gen yesterday here locally that is in pristine condition with 31K miles, and the guy said even though he loves the bike, he would probably take $3000-$3200 for it if I wanted to buy it. The 1st Gens just look more aggressive. They look like they would be a better performing bike in the turns and such. I know that I could just end the whole discussion by going and buying a brand new bike. I've test ridden several nice bikes (Victory CCT, Victory Vision, Kawi Voyager, GW, BMW 1600 GTL, Etc). I have the funding to go that route, but something just tells me to buy an older but very good bike and save the duckets. Plus I love the V4. Let the opinions and suggestions begin. Thanks, Lynn
  24. OK after fnding out my supposed better than stock R/R is worse than the stock one, only putting out 13.7V instead of the 14.0 from the stock one, and discovering the aftermarket one gets dragged down worse than the stock one, I have decided to do some research. Did a msearch here but no mention of any aftermarket R/R's!! Sooo, who knows of a good heavy duty voltage regulator for a 2nd Gen?? No, I do not know what brand aftermarket one I installed, I bought it along with the high output stator from Buckeye a couple of years ago but just got around to installing it this spring. It's in the trash right now...
  25. due to all the aches and pains ridding the 1st gen during the Asheville rally I decided it was time to upgrade .So yesterday I did just that.It is silver in color with CD player, navigation system, and it will run off and leave a 1st gen with ease.It also has a REVERSE gear.Pictures to come later.By the way I did have it up to 130 mph today and it had a lot left in it
