1. Does any one know if there are any other Nebraska members besides me? I recently acquired my venture a few weeks ago. The wife and I are looking forward to riding with other people. This is our first bike. We have friends that ride but unlike us they have kids and they have more important issues to deal with. I would like her to see that it can be alot of fun. Alan and Kim
2. How about when you log in, a list or (probably shorter) a link to show a list of your friends for easier PMing. If this is already on here, I missed it. Bronson
3. Well we did our February ride dedicated to our great northern friends. This will now be an annual event to help out those who are snowbound and need to know that YES,we are riding on your behalf! It is the LEAST I can do for our friends. We had a FANTASTIC ride and to my surprise the first night I was on the street corner in Marathon,Texas looked up and here comes Ponch and Lil Bit riding in from Tomball,Texas 601 miles...He will update on his wild experience so I will not get into that any farther but it was a shocker to see that White RSV coming into town!Anyway our weather was great except one day we had a little West Texas sand storm but in tradition we put cloths over our faces and braved the elements. Here are a few pictures, enjoy and trust me,we raised a few margaritas for all of our VentureRider friends and shed quite a few tears for you guys....Tom Pics as follows Kerrville Texas and theier Texas Swimming pool On Top of a Sister Pecos River (4 Pics) Roy Beans cafe Texas Toilet Paper Lil Bit,Ponch and Me Santa Elena Canyon,Big Bend (2 pics) Top of river rd,Hwy 170 out of Bib Bend (5 Pics OH Yes, And for our Stratoliner/Roadliner friends and Owners a picture of my friends Roadliner with a Dragonfly fairing Installed on it..I think it looks great!
4. Don sent me a very nice note the other day and it cause a guilt pain that I haven't been on in so long. Last year started with meeting all of you and getting some great tips for my Venture and making a bunch of new friends. June came and work pressures made me miss Maintenance day and meeting some of you, but I did get to meet my borther from another monther Mariner Fan, ol danob11 on some others on summer riders. We took our big trip up to Canada and in July and in Ste Saint Maire, MI I met the world famous Gentlemen George and got to see him perform in the park. I still say this is one of the best internet communities I have come across on the internet, absolutelty GREAT PEOPLE. Shortly after that we aquired a new company in Cincinnati and the workload piled on, so lots of travel and not much more riding got done. I also started a side Videograpahy business and that keep most of the free weekends occupied. So hasn't been much time for surfing the web or riding. There was one unexpectedly warm day in December and I just got my new HD camera, so we took a little ride and I used the day to feel the wind and experiment with the new camera. So that was our last real ride of the year, and man am I jones'n to ride. If the video below is jerky, click the HD on and turn if off and it should scroll out better. [ame=http://www.vimeo.com/2155865]Eat to Ride, Ride to Eat on Vimeo[/ame] 3 Weeks ago at a video shoot for a band I took an unexpected step off a stage and tore my Achilles Tendon in half and had to have it put back together. So that has finally slowed me down a bit, and allowed me to get on here and catch up with my VR Family and friends. So don't know what this season holds (I hope more riding), but I look forward to corssing some more of your paths, seeing some old friends and hopefully making Maintenance day this year!! God bless and everyone ride safe! Curt, Deb & Carson
5. TxVenture

Thanks

Just wanted to say thanks to all who showed up at the Houston meet and eat in Chapel Hill. Had a great time, met a lot of new friends, had good food, and fellowship. Need to get the next one planned. Don H.
6. My friends, I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and a great start in the new year. As for me, well here is my story For months I was talking about nothing else than our trip to Germany. I had not spend christmas with my family for over 23 years and Alan had never been there, so it was even more exciting for him. However, as it turned out, NOTHING happened the way we imagined it. My parents big 50th wedding aniversary party was canceled. My dad is in the hospital in a koma, awaiting a tripple by pass (the second time) IF he recovers. I never had a chance to even talk to him, but I wispered in his ears that I would come back to see him when he comes home. Christmas eve without him was not the same. Than Alan and I both got the flu. Not what you want when you an vacation. To make matters even worse, my best friend's husband (age 51) past away two weeks prior to our arrival. She did'n want to spoil my christmas with her news, so she waited to tell me until I got there. It hit me like a hammer, we've been friends for 20 years. Needless to say , there was no party either. We did managed to do some side seeing and Alan loved driving on the Autobahn ( no speed limid). This is the short version of our trip to Germany. Nothing but sadness all around. We are so happy to be back home. Yeap, and the new year is not starting off very good either. I'm sitting in a hotel somewhere in Hammond Indiana for two days, waiting for my truck to be repaired (needs an aircompressor), and that on my first load out. I sure hope the rest of the year will be better. ON A LIGHTER NOTE Alan and I spend the New Years at the casino. He won $1200 and I $2000. It sure comes in handy for not going to work the last two weeks. So, that's it, I wish I had some thing better to tell you all. Please keep my dad in your prayers. I wish you all a wonderful and happy New Year Al & Renate
7. I am so tired of Big Tom telling me that I have no friends and having to review his long list of Venture rider friends. So I implore you....help me shut him up! I am accepting any friends. 8. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE 1930's 40's, 50's, and 60's!!! First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking . As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this. We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because...... WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!! We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem . We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell phones, no text messaging, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them! We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents . We played with worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever. We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them! Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever! The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL! And YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS! You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good. and while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were. Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?! PS -The big type is because your eyes are shot at your age ! How true how true.
9. well looks like we made it through another year. we had some downs, lost some members, some of the members hit some hard times, others had some very unfortionate events take place, but we have weathered the storm. why? because we are a group of great caring people. you will probably never ever find another group as close knit as the venture riders are. when don put this together he did something exactly right. i doubt if he thought it would turn out to be what it is. thanks don. i just hate to hear people say they are leaving the group because they bought a harley or some other off the wall bike like my lowly gold wing. it just does'nt matter.thats not what this group is about. we are friends and will always be here for each other. we have a great year of many of events coming up and i wish i could make all of them. someday i am dreaming of being like la pryor, a real free spirit. linda, and i hope to see you all down the road next year. happy new year to all of you. your good buddy bill
10. As Promised, I now have an ad in the classifieds for a reasonably priced Steering Head Replacement Washer for the First Gens. Here is the link to the ad. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=1579 The price is $3.00 with shipping to the 48 US states. To be honest, I have no Idea what it would cost to ship to our friends way up north, but what ever it is I will only charge the actual shipping cost, nothing more. I also wanted to give my thanks to Lonestarmedic for sending me his washer so I could copy it. JB, your washer is on it's way back home, with some "friends" for your help! Steer Safe, Earl
11. I began making helmet extension cables about 2 months ago. Why you ask, because a friend of mine (Harley) was complaining that the stock cable constantly tugged at his helmet, he is 6’ 4”. So I offered to make him a 14” extension. He liked it so much he bought another one for his wife, she liked it also as she said she no longer has to disconnect to dismount. They told their friends at the local HOG meeting and they told their friends and now I’m making about 7 a week. They are made from coiled cable and will extend to 22”. I’m charging $21.00 shipped in the continental US. I have attached a picture of one for you to look at. I thought I would spread the word in case anyone here has the same issue with their stock helmet cable. Besides I need chrome money and it gives me something to do. Being retired is not all that interesting in the winter. WEB SITE: http://home.comcast.net/~jbissonette1/site/ Thanks Jim

13. Hope Everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving with Family and Friends... Enjoy the Windows Media Video..... George In Virginia
14. I was wondering what you were thankful for this Thanksgiving? Here is my list, but I am sure I forgot something. I am thankful for my family, my friends, my dog, my health, home, and I cannot forget all the members that I was fortunate to meet this year. I really enjoy this family of motorcyclists and all the friends that I get to spend time with in the chat room. You have made my life much more enjoyable and just plan fun. I love you all. I wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving and may God bless you all. Yama Mama
15. I saw you hug your purse closer to you in the grocery store line. But you didn't see me put an extra $10.00 in the collection plate last Sunday. I saw you pull your child closer when we passed each other on the sidewalk. But you didn't see me playing Santa at the local Mall. I saw you change your mind about going into the restaurant when you saw my bike parked out front.. But you didn't see me attending a meeting to raise more money for the hurricane relief. I saw you roll up your window and shake your head when I rode by. But you didn't see me riding behind you when you flicked your cigarette butt out the car window. I saw you frown at me when I smiled at your children. But you didn't see me, when I took time off from work to run toys to the homeless. I saw you stare at my long hair. But you didn't see me and my friends cut ten inches off for Locks of Love. I saw you roll your eyes at our Leather jackets and gloves. But you didn't see me and my brothers donate our old ones to those that had none. I saw you look in fright at my tattoos. But you didn't see me cry as my children where born or passed away & have their name written over and in my heart. I saw you change lanes while rushing off to go somewhere. But you didn't see me going home to be with my family.. I saw you complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be. But you didn't see me when you were changing the CD and drifted into my lane. I saw you yelling at your kids in the car. But you didn't see me pat my child's hands knowing she was safe behind me. I saw you reading the newspaper or map as you drove down the road.. But you didn't see me squeeze my wife's leg when she told me to take the next turn. I saw you race down the road in the rain. But you didn't see me get soaked to the skin so my son could have the car to go on his date. I saw you run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time. But you didn't see me trying to turn right. I saw you cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in. But you didn't see me leave the road. I saw you, waiting impatiently for my friends to pass. But you didn't see me. I wasn't there. I saw you go home to your family. But you didn't see me. Because I died that day you cut me off. I was just a biker. A person with friends and a family. But you didn't see me. EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE US, RESPECT OUR RIGHTS TO RIDE WHAT WE CHOOSE AND TAKE A FEW EXTRA SECONDS TO BE SURE WE ARE NOT IN 'YOUR' WAY
16. Alan arrived back in the US today. FINALY. He is in Seattle now and on his way back to Minneapolis. I can't wait to see him. I read Alan all of your notes and he was truly touched. I will never worry again, no thats not true, I'll always worry, however, I know that whatever happened or wherever we might be, YOU ARE ALL THERE to have our backs. That my FRIENDS, IS AN AWESOME FEELING. Alan and I want to thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts. P.S I always hoped to hit the lottery some day, well my friends, I DID !!!! Knowing all of you made me very rich.
17. As I was listening to the radio on the way to work this morning, the news was talking about the priorities of the incoming admimistration. One at the top of the list was climate change. That made me feel better as it is 18 degrees outside and it is still over a month until winter gets here. I have to say that I can not see how you folks from up north deal with winter, especially our friends north of the border. This would be even more difficult for me due to my love of motorcycles. But, I guess for many of you, it's snowmobile time. Try to stay warm. RandyA
18. Hey Salty. Noticed on the calendar that you will only attend one rally next year and you are not sure what rally to pick. Well,,,, you´ve got friends here and we are all willing to help you out so don´t worry. We have already decided that you will go for "Freebirds Maintenance Day"! Thats what friends are for - helping each other. Now you wont have any sleepless nights wondering about what to do - just have a beer and relax and send us warm thoughts for figuring this out for you. O.K.,,,,O.K.,,,,, I´ll admit it - I just want to meet Krome Rose
19. Picked this up in an email today, wanted to share it. One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, 'How was the trip?' 'It was great, Dad.' 'Did you see how poor people live?' the father asked. 'Oh yeah,' said the son. 'So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?' asked the father The son answered: 'I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.' The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, 'Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.' Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have. Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends! Pass this on to family, friends and acquaintances and help them refresh their perspective and appreciation. "Life is too short and friends are too few!"
20. Just a quick note and it's off to bed for me. Walked in the door at 1110 pm 17 hours after we left Gene and Becky's. Todays jaunt was about 940 miles we must be stupid or Masochists....maybe both Again thank you all for showing up, what a great weekend! We really didn't want to come back north, we have good friends here, but it's 31 degrees right now I'll come on during the week and get my babbling back up to speed. Thanks again for all the hospitality and it was great to see everyone and make some new friends...Y'all be safe
21. Hey folks I don't post often but I lurk almost daily. Having said that I believe you all to be pretty solid well informed people. So here goes it, I believe that my wife is cheating on me! Here's what has led me to think this. Lately she's been going out with the girls after work. When I ask who they are she just says you don't know them there just some girlfriends from work. Also it seems that lately if I answer the phone, the caller hangs up but if she does its a conversation thats private and she just leaves the room. Then I grabbed her cell the other day to check what time it was, You'd have thought I had a bomb in my hands the way she rushed over and grabbed that phone. She said that I didn't need to check the time on the phone I could have just walked into the kitchen to check the wall clock? I noticed that these friends always drop her off a few houses down or around the corner, I asked her why. She said she just wants to get some fresh air. So tonight I'm taking a shower and when I get out there's a note on the counter. It says the gals called and she was just gonna have a couple of drinks that she'd be home in an hour or so. Well I'd had enough, I decided I was gonna get a good look at these friends when they dropped her off! So I roll the venture down to the street so I can hide behind it and get a good look when she get's back. That's when I noticed that one of my plug wires it cracked and looks pretty worn. Is this something I can fix myself or should I take it to the dealer? Thanks in advance I know I can count on you folks when it comes to maintenance. Danimal
22. Just got back from an afternoon ride with Big Tom and SpankyM and had a great time. Nice sunny day but only about 60 degrees and much colder in the shade. Believe it or not we stopped for ice cream regardless! Put around a hundred miles, give or take. Sure is nice to have a group of friends to ride with!! Not too many weekends left this year around here. Leaves are just starting to be colorful.
23. I for one am sick and tired of all those e-mails(chain letters) that promise everything under the sun.Iam looking for the article that someone had posted awhile back that you could send out to all your friends that states that you will not forward any e-mails because they in fact will not make you rich or save the world.does anyone remember this article ? Bucky Thompson
24. Next week we'll be riding the Dragon with some friends. Barb and I have ridden it 4 times, and our friends aren't all that aggressive in corners, but a while back there was a lot of talk about enforcing the speed limit etc. We'll be riding in the middle of the week. Have there been a lot of police on the Dragon lately?? Frank D.
25. Hello everyone, I just recently joined this great group of people and I was wondering if there is a group that meets in Southern Vermont or within a resonable distance from the Ma/Vt border. My wife and I still belong to the local HOG Chapter but we're looking to expand our search for new friends (Big Metric Bikes). I'm still learning how to navigate this site so I may have missed something somewhere. thanks Joshua
