  1. Well, I got off work for a week. Finally! Kind of short notice so I had made no plans. Hard to get loose sometimes when you are the only one that does what you do. I got to get somebody trained! But I woke up yesterday morning at the usual time, 2:30 am, and couldn't get back to sleep. So I took a look at the weather and decided.......NORTH! Strapped the trunk bag on and threw in a few tools JIC and was out the door by 4:30. A bit cool at 39 degrees and cloudy all day but warmed up into the 60's later on. The old girl never gave me a lick of trouble and made the ride most enjoyable. Headed out of Omaha on back roads and stayed that way all day. Wandered through dozens of small towns and three states. Ended up in Yankton, S.D. The strange part was I only saw two other bikes in the entire trip. But then again I was on roads where I didn't even see a car for a half hour at a time. Perfect!! Got back to Omaha late last night and slept like a lamb. Surprised me! I only covered 570 miles. Woke up this morning (a little later than yesterday) and checked the weather again. Today......WEST!! A somewhat shorter trip, only 350 miles today but the weather was warmer and sunny all day. Tomorrow......I'm thinking.......South? I like Arkansas. Maybe spend the night by a lake on this one. Better pack some extra stuff. Lord I love this bike. Even more....I love the effect of the needle mod. Dang. Later Mike
  2. After the last few weeks of crappy rainy weather we finally got a good one . and just in time too. sky_doc17 steered me in the right direction again and as usual he was spot on. after installing the needle shim kit in the 83 , a quick reset to 3 turns out on the air needles and a re-sync at 3500 rpm. I know I'm now getting the best mileage that I can possibly get. the bikes running AWESOME. and i even put a few hundred on her today . Sky-doc17 is the man , and we wish him a speedy recovery. All in All this has been the best day this year, and I even backed the bike into the garage , instead of pulling it up on the lift because I can now say its ready to ride tomorrow and I don't have any thing left to fix on it. its been a long time coming for this old lady, but shes finally treating me right . 2 up on the freeway 70mph, 3200 rpm and rock solid. life is grand. I think I'm in love again. but don't tell my wife .
  3. Well.....we finally are getting all of our crap together! Brad has been working for a few weeks now, and we finally are out of Gunboat's hair....well, we are in our own place, put it that way!! We wouldn't have made it if it were not for Don, Ponch and Kbay, thats for sure! So....we would like to invite everyone over to come and check out our new place. All are welcome to come and eat whatever we decide to make.....I'm thinking about deepfrying a turkey, and later we can just make sandwiches for a snack. I will get some donuts and stuff like that for the early risers, and coffee! So it will be an all day thing so everyone can make it when they can! Please try and let us know if you think you will make it, so I know just how much food to have! And, yea ......there MAY be cheesecake in it! Should we give a whole cheesecake to the person who comes the furthest!?
  4. did the LAW finally catch up with "REDNECK"??? i haven't seen him post in ages. sure do miss all of his "sugar coated" posts and replies. just jt
  5. FINALLY,FINALLY, FINALLY, Closed on the sale of my company!!!!!! since December I have been fighting and arguing about the sale of equipment, customers, trucks. we came to an agreement. Now I am packed and ready to move to Texas and get out of this god forsaken state of Michigan where last year we voted down service taxes and good ole Jenny found a way to get them back in to become a law. Cant take it no more so I'm moving. I plan on leaving Saturday the 24th. So if anyone knows of something good to see on my way to Texas thats not to far off the beaten path maybe we can have a meet and greet and grab a bite to eat. And I can get my new start on life.
  6. Hey guys finally got a pic of me up had to have christy help (well do it for me) but hey its up now. Bull463:dancefool:
  7. I couldn't stand it any longer, I finally had to give her a well needed bath...
  8. My wife had to take a neighbor to see her Dr. today and she left me home alone with the credit card. MISTAKE !! I've been contemplating for several weeks and today I finally did it while she was gone. I bought the Garmin 1490T with the life time update card and a second lifetime card for my Zumo 550 on the bike. Lotta money - (about $500 ) but it's worth it just for the blue tooth. Last week I had to make a near 2000 mile trip alone and the phone never stopped. It always makes me nervous to answer the phone while driving but it's even worse when you have to call someone that's NOT in your phone book. Maybe I'm just getting too old for that OR maybe I'm finally getting a LITTLE smarter Now if I can stay outta site for a while - - - -
  9. Well the venture that i have on my profile was mine then it wasnt then it was and well finally my friend and I made the deal today and I finally have title in hand... so it is mine all mine... Starting tomorrow I am gonna get it ready for the road. I am needing some tires but I have to be honest I need some inexpesnvie ones. I am looking at dunlop d404 42 bucks for the back, brand new, and about 60 bucks for the front one.. is that a good sub 100 dollar tire or does anyone else have any ideals? I did get my mirrors in the trade and I cant wait to ride this thing. I rode the 700 nighthawk home today from terre haute to evansville, in and it is a nice little around town bike but honestly I feel cramped on it. I am not a real big guy but I do like to stretch.. Now I guess I gotta get a subscription on here so I can keep talking and getting good feedback from the really awesome forum...:smile5:
  10. Quickstep saved up a few things to do on my bike till he had more time!!!!! "can't rush these things"is his motto:doh: So with more than a day off due to Easter break, my bike is up on the lifter and work has commenced: Back wheel off & splines etc. greased and checked. New brake pads required. Also decided that C/T will be fitted to rear Mic Mutes finally installed onto intercom system.[thank you Bill Morphy for help with PTT button instructions] Aux. splitter run out to handlebar while front fairing open.[thanks to Squidleys tech article] Spoiler/light bar to finally go on to trunk lid. Fixed passing light problem [stopped working after spacer installed] :dancefool:thanks Quickstep And special thanks to all on here who have posted tech articles, and answered questions for us. All your help is appreciated.:clap2:
  11. For nearly as long as I have had my 07 Venture, it has had an annoying rattley buzzy noise on the right side behind me and a little down. Drove me nuts, when I would throttle up or let off if would rattle. You know one of those noises that you hate, you know it is not serious, but bugs the crap out you. Checked everything on the right side to see if they were tight, multple times, never found anything lose. Pulled he right Kromewerks slipon muffler off, nothing in there, plus it did not really sound like a metalic noise anyway. It was always associated with throttle on or off, but I could not get it to sound off unless I was riding, never heard it when the engine was raced and the bike stationary. Today it was worse than ever, when I got home I was able to hear it while on the side stand in he garage. When I would put my fingers on the right rear speaker grill the noise would stop, remove my finger noise comes back. "HA Got you" I said to myself. Looked inside for some foriegn object (FO for you USAF guys) nothing. So I start to pull plastic parts off, nothing, so when I put things back together, I put a small piece of adhesive backed foam ruber betwen the speaker gill and the frame it mounts to behind the passenger seat. Took it for a short test run, no noise. Plan on taking an all day ride tommorrow, that should tell me if it finally fixed or not. Here is for hoping.
  12. I finally got my fishtails mounted today. They are a tad long, but I like them. I had to make the rear mounting brackets, because they came without. I didnt want to use hanger brackets, so I used stainless steel. I welded the bracket on the inside of the pipe, and didnt have much discoloration. I apologize for the bike being dirty, but just took it ot of hibernation. All in all I am pleased with them.
  13. After a winter of many upgrades, I finally got everything buttoned up and went for a short 40 mile ride. The upgrades/maintenance that I got done are; 1. Starter clutch mod from Dano. 2. PCW clutch upgrade. 3. Fuse panel from SkyDoc17. 4. Grease, Oil, filter 5. Clean up some P.O. wiring mess. 6. bath and wax 7. solder stator wires 8. seat bolts 9. Radiator flush and fill 10. Trunk reflector fitted with 168 LEDs wired as brake, running, turn lights. (actually done late last fall) And probably more that I forgot I did. WHEEW!!! It felt real good to be back on the road with everything working.
  14. Well, I finally did it...Don (B2Dad) finally let me drive his trike. He took me out to the wilderness (state park) and let me drive it around the "loops". No trees jumped out in front of me...let me just say that right off! And when I got back after the first one, Don still had a tuft of hair left and a few fingernails LOL!! So around I went again. At one point I actually got it into 3rd gear!! Woo Hoo! Felt the wind in my hair...or would have if I wasn't wearing a helmet and had a windshield. It was a good day folks. We went on a nice ride and had a good time. The first real ride of the season. Mine, that is. Don already did some riding this week (thanks Monty for letting me know!) so I finally gave in today and we BOTH went riding. What's that saying? If you can't beat 'em, join em? I guess his hand survived. He's not hurting much tonite. A few more trips around the park and a written test and I might just get my license...will let you all know when it's time to look out for the hot chick on the trike...LOLOLOL!
  15. I perchased my 2000 Venture in the biginning of January. It made it here about 3 or 4 weeks ago (to New Orleans), and during the ride, it lost the front seat. I talked to the guy who sold me the bike, he told me basically "tuff $h1t". I perchased a used seat from Pinwall Cycles, but they sent me the back seat. They have a strict to return policy, but they were very nice, and just made me pay for shipping. After all of that, today on the 16th day of March... I finally rode my baby to work... It was great. The seat doesn't have the mounting hardware, but it's good enough for now. I'll head to Home Depot after work, and maybe I can get something to work... I don't care, it's gorgeous outside, the bike runs great, and I'm gonna have a great week.. If you guys could feel my joy!!! I'm :dancefool:at work...
  16. .....But Finally Finally Finally!....I got a job I'd like to share this with you folks, there are many here in Texas and all over that have helped Lonna and I while we were down and as poor as poor could be. We have the best friends anyone could deserve, and there are many here that I love beyond words. Today, with the help of one of my best friends, Ponch, I was able to get hired in where David works @ Dicar as a machinery maintenance man. The pay is decent, 1/3 less than what I was making....but I have a job. I will tell you all here that I keep things close to the cuff when it comes to how we are doing. We have always been ok, but I have been as depressed and down as any other time in my life. Not being able to support your family wears on a guy. Lonna and I have been "homeless" since we packed up and left out house in Michigan in late October. Gunboat has been the best blessing we could have hoped for, he is one of my best friends and I love him dearly. Without him, we wouldn't have been able to come to Texas, and I can never repay him for all he has put himself through to help both Lonna and myself. I would like to tell you all that I am giddy with excitement, and perhaps tomorrow I will be. But today, I am just relieved, the kind of relief you have when you have been fighting a Gorilla for 7 months and can finally stop fighting with him. I am happy, and I am so looking forward to be able to make some money. I know we all complain about work, I know when it's 100 degrees in August here I will too....but I will remember that I have a job to be able to go to. No great revelations, No banners or Hoopla, just thankful that I can give my brain a little rest and get that elephant off my chest. To all my brothers and sisters here that said a prayer for us....Thank you.
  17. It's pretty much because the dealer's (service) are clueless about the bike. Especially the front people. The last time I took my bike in, I was hasseled about installing my Zumo GPS by cracking open the fairing...after a short standoff, I finally got my way. Now the actual tech did a pretty good job, but the service people up front are not the brightest bulbs on the tree. But today was a REAL PAIN. It was time for my 600 mile FIRST SERVICE. Plus they are supposed to install running lights that I bought when I bought the bike and the mounts just now came in...anyway, I asked that when it was installed to do it using a relay...they balked, and said, "it depends on the kit"...but we never heard of using a relay for the passing lights. Then I asked if they could pump about 5 lbs air into the front forks and about 15 pounds in the shocks on the back...they said, "Sorry sir, we don't have a hand pump". And then he says, "No one has ever brought their bike in for air in the shocks, they are set up from the factory". ??????? WHAT????? And finally, I told them when I checked my bike this morning, there were two small oil spots underneath the bike and could they please check them out, he just kinda brushed it off and said their guy would check the whole bike over...so we'll see how it works out. But I NOW know why there are so many TECH DAYS and so many guys that work on their own bikes. Wally
  18. I have finally gone and done it. Effective today I am retired. I am hoping this is not one of those decisions I'll regret later. After more that 50 years as either a student or teacher, I am now out of school! Graduation was a long time coming! Now I need to start planning some rides(besides M/D)!
  19. The bike is finally home
  20. ... i've read in the other Thread you want to see a Photo of me. Well, to be honest, i don't care much about Pics which contain me, and i have none on my own. But .... every now and then a Pic with me is popping up somewhere... So, i finally found one to show you. It has been taken on the Drag Racing i've contributed on October, 18 last Year. Here it is ... http://www.torsten-konrad.de/gallery/beschlrennen5/viertelmeile09_176.jpg Don't get me wrong, I'm the Guy on the left Side of the Picture ...
  21. Yeah, I know a little late, but Mechanic has been down the a cold or something, same thing I had last week, finally got around to loading the pics. [ame=http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic%20NC%20ME%2020100102/]Sleeperhawks Mechanic NC ME 20100102 pictures by venturerider - Photobucket[/ame]
  22. Finally changed the E3 on the rear of my bike. I think I could have went a couple thousand more miles after inspecting it. I will have to say this is the best tire I have ever removed from my bike. Total over 2 1/2 years or so 26,989 Miles. First picture is of a tire I typically take off a bike and the rest are of the new E3 and the old E3. The one I took off had two small nicks/cuts in it. One had been there for at least two years and there was also a piece of glass in another spot about the size of a quarter carrot diamond. BOO
  23. A couple pics of the newest grandson....was awesome to finally get to see and hold him ! Grandma had to have a picture of him in his new camo hat she got him... Got to give fair time to the granddaughter also.....she turned 3 the day after Christmas so i finally got to be there for her birthday...as u can see she has chocolate cake on her mouth!! and here is a pic of the whole famn damily
  24. Black Owl

    Duh!

Just read in the paper this morning that bank robberies were down 20% last year... Gues they finally realized they could not compete agains the CEO's.....
  25. BOO

    Finally!

I usually leave the first of Feb to go to Florida. I'm suppose to be retired BUT I took on this job a few months ago to remodel an old 4 flat into a duplex.. Figured what the heck, two or three months should be done. The job drug on and on AND finally was jeopardizing my time in Florida. Finally finished installing the counter tops this afternoon and I'm out of this cold and snowy weather first thing in the morning Wahoo, Wahoo.... Should be in southern Georgia by tomorrow night then on down to the Fort Myer area till the end of the month. No bike though, just the cage. Did I mention the shorts and flip flops? AND I don't want any of you northerners sending down any cold weather, just keep it till I get back. Had to clean three inches off the drive this evening but I was smiling. BOO
