  1. I hate it when people forward bogus warnings, And I have even done it myself A couple times unintentionally But this one is real, and it's Important. Please send this warning to everyone On your e- mail list. If a woman comes to your front door Saying they are checking for ticks Due to the warm weather And asks you to take your clothes off And dance around with your arms up, DO NOT DO IT!! THIS IS A SCAM!! They only want to see you naked. I wish I'd gotten this yesterday. I feel so stupid.
  2. New here, will add more photos when he stops riding it long enough to take more pictures! http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5261/5634591907_648b2b0173.jpg Not perfect, but 43K miles and runs perfect. Already laid it down gently in the driveway this morning and he was able to pick it up easy, no damage. It's got some scrapes already so he didn't feel like a moron. Glad I wasn't there to laugh at him, LOL!!!! Ginny in Denver-ish More photos: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5190/5641034056_4075372106.jpg http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5265/5641031072_49a7e139a7.jpg http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5101/5640464425_6fb5cf8cb2.jpg
  3. I have a '87 venture and want to replace or fix my seat. I feel as if I sit too low. If I put my sheepskin gelpad down I sit pretty good. But if I put my wife's gelpad down on top of it I feel as though I'm sitting at the right height. Just the seat by itself and I feel like I'm way too low. Would a mustang or corbin make a difference with the height? Or should I get my stock seat "re-cushioned"? Appreciate any help. Thanks
  4. I just can't imagine!!!! I really feel sorry for the kid!
  5. OK What Freon does house A/C take. Need a charge kit. I've done this before but can't remember #. 134 is car house is ??? 22? 12? I'll feel stupid when I get this one but don't tell.........Promised I wouldn't do that!!
  6. This is simply the beginning of a new set of Frequently Asked Questions I am going to create for us, focused specifically on the bikes, not the use of this board. Many of us get tired of seeing the same old things asked repeatedly, especially when they have been coved in great detail so often in the past. Hopefully, this will allow those new owners to find the basic ansers and links much faster! I am starting with the 2nd Gen models since that is the bike I own and know intimately, and I am starting it here simply to solicit ideas on what should be included. I am going to build this in stages, as I feel like typing and looking things up. I will begin with the next post by listing the FAQs alone without the answers, just to bet the list going, but I will keep editing that post and adding the answers to the questions until it is ready for movement to a more appropriate place. Please feel free to post any and all thoughts to this thread that will help in refining the ultimate document. I am sure that some of the items will be controversial, such as defeating the rudimentary pollution controls on these bikes, but I will endeavor to handle all items in a balanced and fair way (even the evil car tire debate!). But I also implore any of you to keep me on the straight and narrow if you feel I have not done a subject justice. Goose
  7. Took her out for first time this year. Finally no SNOW!:happy65:Went out for just a short ride to shake out the cob webs.Man did it feel good!
  8. Dear Fellow North Georgia riders, Though I was unable to participate in many of the local M&E, I did get to a few and certainly will miss Terry's leadership. One of the reasons I missed was involvement leading a group of riders myself. When I spoke with Terry after his announcement he encouraged me to consider doing both.... at the same time. So after some thought I would like to throw out an invitation. I head up a small group of riders we call COR (Community of Riders) that began out of my church. We ride once a month from March through October as well as our annual January 1st ride. Though we have 30 or 40 who I notify ride dates, we normally have 4 - 12 bikes show up. Our first ride of the year is this coming Saturday (March 19th) and we will be going from Roswell up to Blairsville for lunch and then back to Roswell. We will be meeting at the QT on the corner of Hwy 92 and Maybry Road. Hope to gather by 8:45 with KU at 9. We are a pretty diverse group that like those here simply enjoy the wind on our knees and fellowshipping with others who enjoy the same. Obviously not sure what to expect however the more the merrier and if need be we'll just add some mid pack ride leaders to help keep us together. If you would like to get a better feel for the group feel free to visit our blog at I will try and keep tabs here or you may PM me. All the best, Norm
  9. Had my flu shot in the fall.........thought I was good for the season... eeeeerrrr no, been sick since Saturday night....why is everything spinning?..been a rough couple of days....can't wait to feel better so I can stir up some trouble here.....get your shots in now while I'm down, but I warn you all I'm starting a list... yuk ice cream
  10. From my Minnee Sota cousin Mark (also a Lutrin). Mark's Introduction follows: Those of you who are Lutheran will relate to this quite quickly. To those of you who are not Lutheran, perhaps consider this as a User's Manual on how to interpret the behaviors of a Lutheran, present company included. Throw in a good bit of Scandinavian background in addition to being Lutheran and it explains the preference for all things bland. Uff Dah! SINGING WITH THE LUTHERANS by Garrison Keillor I have made fun of Lutherans for years - who wouldn't, if you lived in Minnesota? But I have also sung with Lutherans, and that is one of the main joys of life, along with hot baths and fresh sweet corn. We make fun of Lutherans for their blandness, their excessive calm, their fear of giving offense, their lack of speed and also for their secret fondness for macaroni and cheese. But nobody sings like they do. If you ask an audience in New York City, a relatively Lutheranless place, to sing along on the chorus of 'Michael Row the Boat Ashore', they will look daggers at you as if you had asked them to strip to their underwear. But if you do this among Lutherans they'll smile and row that boat ashore and up on the beach! And down the road! Lutherans are bred from childhood to sing in four-part harmony. It's a talent that comes from sitting on the lap of someone singing alto or tenor or bass and hearing the harmonic intervals by putting your little head against that person's rib cage. It's natural for Lutherans to sing in harmony. We're too modest to be soloists, too worldly to sing in unison. When you're singing in the key of C and you slide into the A7th and D7th chords, all two hundred of you, it's an emotionally fulfilling moment. I once sang the bass line of Children of the Heavenly Father in a room with about three thousand Lutherans in it; and when we finished, we all had tears in our eyes, partly from the promise that God will not forsake us, partly from the proximity of all those lovely voices. By our joining in harmony, we somehow promise that we will not forsake each other. I do believe this: These Lutherans are the sort of people you could call up when you're in deep distress. If you're dying, they'll comfort you. If you're lonely, they'll talk to you. And if you're hungry, they'll give you tuna salad! The following list was compiled by a 20th century Lutheran who, observing other Lutherans, wrote down exactly what he saw or heard: 1. Lutherans believe in prayer, but would practically die if asked to pray out loud. 2. Lutherans like to sing, except when confronted with a new hymn or a hymn with more than four stanzas. 3. Lutherans believe their pastors will visit them in the hospital, even if they don't notify them that they are there. 4. Lutherans usually follow the official liturgy and will feel it is their way of suffering for their sins. 5. Lutherans believe in miracles and even expect miracles, especially during their stewardship visitation programs or when passing the plate. 6. Lutherans feel that applauding for their children's choirs would make the kids too proud and conceited. 7. Lutherans think that the Bible forbids them from crossing the aisle while passing the peace. 8. Lutherans drink coffee as if it were the Third Sacrament.. 9. Some Lutherans still believe that an ELCA bride and an LC-MS groom make for a mixed marriage. (For those of you who are not Lutherans, ELCA is Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and LC-MS is Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, two different divisions of the same Protestant religion. And when and where I grew up in Minnesota, intermarriage between the two was about as popular as Lutherans and Catholics marrying.) 10. Lutherans feel guilty for not staying to clean up after their own wedding reception in the Fellowship Hall. 11. Lutherans are willing to pay up to one dollar for a meal at church. 12. Lutherans think that Garrison Keillor stories are totally factual. 13. Lutherans still serve Jell-O in the proper liturgical color of the season and think that peas in a tuna noodle casserole add a little too much color. 14. Lutherans believe that it is OK to poke fun at themselves and never take themselves too seriously. And finally, you know you're a Lutheran when: *It's 100 degrees, with 90% humidity, and you still have coffee after the service; *You hear something really funny during the sermon and smile as loudly as you can; *Donuts are a line item in the church budget, just like coffee; *The communion cabinet is open to all, but the coffee cabinet is locked up tight; *When you watch a 'Star Wars' movie and they say, 'May the Force be with you', you respond, 'and also with you'; *And, lastly, it takes 15 minutes to say, 'Good-bye'. May you wake each day with His blessings, Sleep each night in His keeping, And always walk in His tender care.
  11. This winter has been one of extremes and I am starting to feel like a yo-yo. Last weekend we were well above freezing with some areas close to here hitting 40f with sun and lots of melting. Monday we started to drop and when i got up this morning the temp was -32f and sunny, ooo cold! Now, coming on Thurs we are sposed to be over 32f again and sunny, I appreciate that we arent getting the storms some of you are, but the temperature swings are wild! Add the fact i just got back from the Southern Caribbean and Florida its getting a bit hard to know what coat to wear in the mornings!!! I feel confused!!! Brian:confused24:
  12. As you all know my father has been in the hospital for just over three months. Today at 2:30 pm my father quietly passed away. His body just seemed to decide it had enough and shut down. I never thought I would suddenly feel such a huge emptyness as I did when he slipped away. My Father has been a big part of my life and I know everytime I swing a carpenters hammer to drive a nail or saw a piece of wood I am going to feel his absence, because everything I learned about building houses I learned from him. His favourite phrases were always 1- a job worth doing is worth doing right. and 2-never trust another mans tape measure.
  13. Sometimes you feel like everyone has diarrhea and you're the last outhouse left in the in the world. Or you realize it's a dog eat dog world and you're wearing milk bone underwear. Today was one of those days. BUT alas the phone rang and my Daughters big sister (from the big brothers big sisters program) called and wanted to take Abigail away tonight. Well I decided to mosey up to the local bar and grill and relax for a spell. Now you single parents understand what it is like to spend day end and day out and your only conversation is with a 12 year old and how you NEED adult interaction. So on a steady diet of Bud Lite Draft and double shots of apple pucker I was interacting. Sooooo with a DJ entertaining us they decided to play stump the drunk (me) by betting if I knew the name of the songs they were playing. I may forget what day of the week it is but I remember my music and the farther back in time they went the more they played into my hand. I somehow became the best buddy of everyone in the bar. ( except for one women that grabbed me in the wrong place and I informed her I was out of 10 foot poles). All in all I had a great night and no matter how I feel in the morning I will look back fondly on this self indulging escape of responsibility I perpetrated tonight. In conclusion with the absence of good riding weather (my normal escape) I found a one time haven in a desolate cold snowy tundra to let the pressures of everyday life pass me by. Yes yes I know this cannot be an everyday solution but it did feel good. You probably didn't want to hear this and most likely couldn't care less but I told you anyway. Time to watch the DUKE in "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon" and go to bed. Hope you all have as good of a Sunday as I have plan on having. Good Night.
  14. Was going to jump in the shower this morning to get ready for church. Long story short noticed that I had a leak. Determined that it was coming from the roof which means I had another ice jam to take care of. Still makes me mad that the company I hired and paid good money to install my gutters did not do anything but hang them where the old ones were. If I wanted a crummy job I would have done it my self! Boy do I feel better now...
  15. well the first of the year i was feeling good. then 2 days ago the gremlin got me. a slip and fall broke my right ankle. and twisted the knee. 6 weeks on crutches. for the ankle to heel. then something called gout settled in the big toe of the same foot. if any one has ever had this. i truly feel for you.. so here i sit. with a cast on the foot pain like the devil himself is useing a red hot poker on my foot. drugged out of my mind. all i can say is it has to get better.
  16. Any members near there? We are thinking a winter honeymoon there, and not coming back if we like it. We have a toy-hauler we would live in till get the feel of the area and find work. Just looking to talk with people to get a feel if it is like we think it is. I drove through there on the bike at easter 2 years ago on the way to an easter mission in Mexico but I just bypassed around. For those that don't know, Kitty's real name is Victoria.
  17. For those of you that are doing some major repairs on your 83, such as transmission repairs or whatever, I suggest you think about doing what I did as a frame repair, even though you have not experienced a frame breakage as I did 4 1/2 years and probably 35,000 miles ago. Even though I don't feel it is a common problem of frame breakage, I do feel that if you are serious about keeping your bike on the road and having the structural integrity it needs, this is something I think you should seriously consider. ..... and now for your "feel good" video of the day! Oh yeah, you're welcome http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/30F5sO/www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DVYZQbZ1jK58
  21. So from reading other clutch threads it seems you can just double up the clutch spring and get a better feel. I've been thinking about the PWC clutch kit, but concerned that several people have complained about the change in friction point on the clutch lever. Does doubling up the stock spring do that also? And if not, does anyone that upgraded to the PWC have a stock spring they want to get ride of. Also instead of the PWC kit, can one just get the PWC heavier spring, I read someone here didn't like the feel of the kit and just used the spring, but I can't see paying for the whole kit if I just need the spring.
  22. .................But forgot the camera We covered 860 Klm's for the time we were away, so good practice for the U.S. trip I Towed our camper trailer, and didn't even feel it was there behind the big blue tractor! Sorry no photo's
  23. wednesday i traded my beloved 86 venture for a 2000 v-star.. (straight up) the 86 was just to heavy for me now that i have lost 240 pounds( and muscle).. the v-star is nothing like my venture.. nooo sirr eeee.. but i sure feel safer cause i can reach the ground and handle it better.. both bikes had 24000 miles..
  24. Hello everyone. I'm brand new here. I have a 2006 RSV, and it's nearly perfect! I am thinking about getting a shorter windshield for summer riding. I love the big shield when it's cold, but I would like to feel a breeze when it's 90 degrees. I was wondering if anyone could give me feedback on the shorter shields. I'm 6' tall, and I'm looking at either a 6" or an 8" windshield (measured from the front where the chrome meets the plastic). I'm mainly looking for guys (about my height) that have put on short windshields. I don't want to get a bunch of buffeting around my head, but I would like to "feel" some airflow. Thanks for any info.
  25. Test rode a 2010 Wing today, and whether or not you care here's what I thought. Turned bars to the left to exit parking lot. Oops windshield didn't turn it felt odd, but honestly it was the last time I even noticed the frame mounted fairing. Gave it some gas and immediately needed to shift to second. First gear seems almost unnecessary on this bike. I feel a little cramped. Is it because my feet are under me instead of out front? I can't decide. Hit third and twisted the throttle and I was having fun. It will run. Made a right turn effortlessly. This thing handles like a much smaller bike. I was close to my house so I tried out some curvy roads I knew of nearby and man this thing just rides so "effortless" is the word that keeps coming to mind, I don't feel cramped any more. I like the power. You can leave it in 4th gear and go about any speed you want, and the brakes are amazing. This thing is so quiet and smooooth you can listen to the radio and it's almost like being in a car. That's the part I can't decide if I like or not. I pull up the ramp to get on the interstate and 2 Harleys pass quickly and are probably 100 yards ahead before I get halfway up the ramp. I give it some gas and I'm on their tail in seconds. I'm at 90 but it feels so comfortable I feel like I'm going slower. I get off at the next exit and head back towards the dealership. The way I'm seated it feels like my toes are pointed down, and I wonder if I leaned enough to drag a peg would I scrape the toe of my tennis shoe? I look down and don't think so. I take time to look at all the controls, gauges and storage compartments and think it's kind of cool. Like I'm on some kind of space vehicle. Oops I'm coming up to the dealership and I'm in the wrong lane with several cars in the other lane. No problem a little throttle and I pass 4 cars in nothing flat and change lanes. Uh oh, one of them was a cop, but he doesn't seem to care. Pull back in and park, but wish I could keep it for a day. I don't know if I would want it for my daily rider, but it's definitely on my list. Comfort and speed aren't the only reasons I ride. I like the feel and sound that cruisers have and the Wing doesn't, but I think I could get used to it pretty quick.
