1. I saw on here somewhere once a seat cover that someone had stitched together from a few Mallwart sheepskin wash mitts. There was a picture that showed the underside and how it was stitched together. I've looked and looked and I can't find it now. Does anyone know who made this or happen to have snagged the picture? I'd like to see it again.
2. My 89 VR has been giving me battery problems and I've had to throw a charger on her, or give her a jump to get her going. The problem is I have to remove the tank cover to get to the battery, which means I have to dig out the tool box, find somewhere safe for the cover so it doesnt get scratched, the once the bike starts put it all back together again. Sooooo I was thinking, is it possible to run a low amp charge through the cigarette lighter outlet? I was thinking I would get a trickle charger, wire a aux power plug to it, then just plug it in when the bike is parked. Any ideas?
3. Anybody knows where I can get a bike cover for my 87 VR? I have it cleaned up and don’t want any dust to get on it. I plan to ride some when the temp is above 60. We will see. Thanks
4. I want to cover the drive shaft, looked @ maybe using a chrome exhaust plate with clamps behind it but haven't committed to that yet ,thought about having it all chromed, but my latest experience with chromers hasn't been so good (whole other story) but I was wondering has anyone tried anything or saw something that might work that one spot has been bothering me for a while so I gotta chrome it
5. I have seen the OEM covers and then I saw some mfg by show chrome. The one by shoe chrome seem to cover more than the OEMs in the pics I saw.Has anyone elsed purchased these and are they difficult to install?
6. The last two times I rode the bike Ive been getting a knock from the engine. Like a tap tap tap sound that goes away or so it seams when I rev it up but at idle it sounds like some thing wants to come through the water pump cover. I wanted to make sure it wasnt something else so I changed the oil back to the amsoil that I usually use. I used Spectro the last time and it had never been there before. Well the knock is still there and It concerns me so much that I wont ride it that way. Anybody have any ideas? Should I pull off the cover and last but not least is this something that is common. I been here quite a while and havent seen any threads on this but maybe I wasnt looking. I did do a search but frankly the search here is not the best
7. Now, about this valve cover gasket being a snap to change out on my '85, the only thing that snapped was my brain. I was very pleased to see how easy it was to lift the cover, but not so happy in finding out that it would not slide out over the cam chain. About 1/4" more clearance and I would have crossed the finish line. Not to mention that I almost damaged the old gasket in the process. Am I cursed, or what?
8. Hey Everyone- Im looking to clean out my garage and as you know I am quite the accessorized person. Anyway I find myself with lots of take off parts that I have no reason to keep and want to be rid of. If I cant get rid of them I will just toss them so tell me what you need. The parts are free so here is a list and if you want anything all you need is pay the shipping. -Stock waterpump cover (Right side with Yamaha on it) -Stock timing (Stator) cover -Stock Handle bars I will be adding stuff as I inventory the Garage so check back. PM me so that I am sure to get that message. Scotty
9. I'm looking to purchase a cover for my 08 Venture. There are so many, can someone please suggest a good one, and where I can buy it? Thanks
10. Just wondering what the options are for mudflaps on an RSV, especially one on the front wheel to keep rocks off the Wagner grill cover. I know about the Timberwolf flaps but there must be others that work as well. Any ideas?
11. A friend at work picked up a 2001 V Star 1100. It has a small oil leak on the front of the motor! Is this a common problem with these motors? The leak looks like it might be coming from a small cover behind the front exhaust pipe, the cover looks to be round with 2 Allen bolts on either side to tighten. Does anyone know what hat cover is for? Thanks for the help
12. Yesterday, After returning from Pilots Home, Which by the way that Guy adjusted my Carbs and Its Never run that good, Thanks Jim!!!! any way, I got home and when I removed the Key it was pretty warm... Well an Hour later I started the bike up and reved it a time or two and put her away. Well the Key was very warm and the Ignition switch was also very warm. I removed the two allen heads and pulled the cover on the tank and the whole Barrel for the key was very warm, almost uncomfortable to touch very long. I left the cover off and in about 4-5 hours checked it again. It was cool. Now it did sit in the sun but i wouldnt think it should get that hot. Everything works so, do I have a switch going up or is it something I shouldnt worry about. Heat like that to me means a large Amp draw some place, but i could be wrong.. I dont want to end up like this...
13. Ok, can you guess why I have a short red line welt across my face the other day? geesus.. pulled the cover off the bike and wondered what that bright glint of metal was swishing up towards me as the cover let go of the overly bent antenna.. WHAP right up into the face.. When my eyes stopped watering and I picked myself off the ground, I looked around to make sure no one saw me.. Red faced and feeling foolish.. I forgot I had antennas and stowed for the covering of the bike. fun.. embarrassing but funny.. had to share.. (my purpose in life is to make people laugh, hopefully not with too much pain)
14. Hi, Does anybody have for sale a LEFT SIDE ENGINE COVER w/ADJUSTABLE VENT w/the Venture emblem in really good shape to fit a 1986 Venture Royale 1300DS. The color of the engine cover is Urieshi Black/Marshall Gold. Also, the cover has "orangish-pumpkin" color pinstrips that separates the Black and Gold colors. The Marshall Gold is the top color followed by the pinstrips, then the Urieshi Black as the bottom color. I was hauling my bike on a trailer and the engine cover blew off. I think somebody forgot to fasten the bottom of the cover with the rubber attachment. Anyway, by the time I realized it had come off and back-tracked, the traffic had broken the cover into about 5 or 6 pieces. I know "beggars can't be choosers"; however, since the right side cover is near pristine, I would like the left side cover to be in good shape as well. If you have one for sale, please let me know your cost plus shipping to Dallas, Texas 75227. Looking forward to your response. Allen Squyres Dallas, Texas
15. hi all i am going to help james (jburell) to rebuild his clutch release cylinder. i have a question about the removal of it. looking at the manual i have to remove the shift rod, the stator cover, left floorboard, left exhaust and middle gear case cover. can't i just pull the middle gear case cover only to be able to access the two bolts to remove the clutch release cylinder? looks like there would be enought room to unbolt it and drop the cylinder down and out the bottom. seames to me that this one cover would be the easiest and fastest way to go. any ideas or suggestions. thanks in advance & best reguards don c.
16. Mounted a Stebel Nautilus today, the"chrome" one. I got to get it off my chest.....Everytime I purchase something made in Europe I feel cheated! Their concept of quality is sub-chinese!! How can yu call this thing chrome? It's made of cheap pot-metal sike aluminum and plastic. All the so called chrome is plastic. The greyish body of this thing isn't even fully covered with it. The cover looks like a tincan from the top! Good thing they gave two of those plastic covers, I used the back one to cover the top so I wouldn't annoy my wife with grumbling and mumbling every time I look at this thing! The one that Harbor freight sells BTW is made by the same company under a differen name - you can also find it at Pep Boys. For some reason I expected this thing to look better. Well, at least it is loud although the tone is a bit high for my taste. When it quits on me - as all Euro-crap soon does I think I will replace it with a set of trumpet type horns. OK,I feel better now.....
17. Does anybody know where I can purchase the cassette cover plate for the 1st Generation? Somehow mine mysteriously left my bike!!
18. Sorry. having trouble getting picture up here.
19. OK folks, I got an email from one of our members Michael F. Kerr. Michael lives in San Diego and is having a problem with is '83. Here is the message. His user name here is Michael F. Kerr so you can PM him at that name. My faithful "Black Beauty" is showing her age. She's an '83 gen 1. I've been plagued by an oil leak I finally traced to a leaking cam cover gasket. This was surprising, as the engine was just re-built a while back, and the cam cover seals were new. Long story short: As you know, each of the eight cam shaft hold down caps has a cast in, threaded, boss where the cover bolt threads in. On one cap, this boss is broken off, don't know why, although the aluminum isn't the best looking I've ever seen. A poor casting combined with age, I suspect. Another is stripped. I suspect it "popped" just as I let up on the torque wrench, and I missed it. Or maybe it was marginal, and heat expansion did the deed. So my question is: are you or any of the other riders aware of a Gen 1 engine being retired and "pieced out"? I looked at the online parts manual, and they, the caps, don't seem to appear as a seperate part...probably because the cam bore would have been line bored at the factory with the caps in place when the engine was built. So maybe someone knows of some laying around? If I can find a few I can get them sized here, and I've found very good steel inserts to re-thread all the existing 6mm holes.
20. I was looking at those sweeeeeeet stretch covers but I couldn't come to the point of plunking down $260 bucks for one, so dragged out the old sewing machine (all bachelors should have one hidden away under manly things like car mags, shop rags and gun cases btw) Ran down to the local Mill End fabrics and picked up 3yds of waterproof nylon and some elastic and a couple grommets and went to work. I had to cut the sheet as it laid on the bike to get it to fit, but it is actually nice and snug. I used bungee cords to test the fit but am going to replace them with a bungee/elastic cord that will be a permanent loop. Just toss the cover over the bike, hook the loops around the footpegs and instant rain/sun cover. Total = $23 bucks in materials (already had the grommet pliers) http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j27/Vermincelli/Venture/IMAGE_079.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j27/Vermincelli/Venture/IMAGE_080.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j27/Vermincelli/Venture/IMAGE_081.jpg
21. on passenger cup holder mounts. I'm sure this has been gone over many times, but I can't seem to find any threads. The only place I can find to mount a cup holder is on the passenger hand rails. Gary's using the trick on the gas tank cover, but I need one myself. My brother had given us one that I put on from Cabella's but the first time I used it, away she went. I also had purchased a leather one that I liked, but it hung down to low and now I have a rub mark on the top of my side bag. I need one that sits up high enough that I can still get my side cover open. Any suggestions?
22. I went to one of the local dealers today as I have a small leak from my valve covers on my 85 1st gen. It leaves a puddle the size of a quarter every time i stop and it drives me nuts! I almost fell over when the parts guy said that the gaskets were 38 bucks each! thats gonna cost me 76 bucks to do both sides. I think I gotta check around but I thought I would ask in here to see what you guys are paying for valve cover gaskets. thanks Brian:cool10:
23. OK, I know this is a stupid question, but is there any trick to refilling the radiator on a 2005 Tour Deluxe? Not being mechanically inclined (and perhaps none too bright), I pulled the water pump cover to replace it with a chrome one without "Yamaha" stamped on it. Of course (being the water pump cover) coolant drained out onto the ground. I am sure I lost all of it. First, is there anything special about the Royal Star coolant? Will just Prestone from WalMart (pre-mixed at 50/50) do? Secondly, is there a tech article on this site detailing how to refill my coolant system? I REALLY would appreciate any help anyone could give. Thanks in advance.
24. I am in desperate need for a left side marker light cover for the marker light on the radiator cover on a 89 venture royale. If anyone knows of one or has one i would be very interested in it.
25. I know it is way too warm to be thinking about the juice the carb heaters pull if they EVER come on again, but what better time to prepare for the coming cold weather? In case you don't know, the carb heaters on the RSV pull a total of 60 watts of power, and that is an awful lot when you are riding in cold weather and want to use other stuff like extra lights or heated clothing. Here is a very simple mod you can do that will let you turn off the carb heaters any time you like - typically this would only be in very cold weather after the bike has finished warming up. The carb heater thermo switch is under the right battery cover, right next to the radiator overflow tank. In this picture it is the nondescript item in the rubber cover on the right side: The blue item on the left side in that picture is the carb heater relay. This is a "normally closed" relay which is activated by the neutral switch. When this relay comes on in neutral, it cuts the power to the carb heaters. The two black wires coming out of the thermo switch connect through bullet connections to a black/white and a black/yellow wire. It really makes no difference which one you chose, but I unplugged the black/yellow wire (it is the wire running directly to the carb heaters). You can see the new blue wires I used to connect a small toggle switch in -line. The toggle switch is mounted in the black plastic cover behind the battery on the right side, near the rear shock air valve. That is all there is to it! Just make sure that the switch you buy can handle 10 amps at 12 volts DC (if you can only find a switch rated at 125VAC and 250VAC, you are generally safe with a 10A @ 125VAC rating). By using bullet connectors on the new wires you can just insert the switch in the circuit without cutting any wires or making any permanent change to the bike wiring. Goose Optional - you can use a 12v LED (Radio Shack) as a circuit-ON indicator. If you connect it on the Thermo-switch side of your toggle switch, it will indicate when the bike wants to activate the carb heaters (meaning they may not really be on if your toggle switch is off); if you put it on the carb side of your toggle switch, it will indicate when the carb heaters are ACTUALLY on. I positioned my LED between the seat and the tank, just sticking out of the rubber tank cover. In this location, no special mount is needed, just stuff it under the ribber flap. That way I can look down to see it if I want, but it is never annoying.
