  1. Has anyone else heard of this? THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION PROVIDED TO US BY AT&T. DON'T EVER DIAL AREA CODE We actually received a call last week from the 809 area code. The woman said 'Hey, this is Karen . Sorry I missed you--get back to us quickly. I have something important to tell you.' Then she repeated a phone number beginning with 809 We didn't respond. Then this week, we received the following e-mail: Do Not DIAL AREA CODE 809, 284, AND 876 THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION PROVIDED TO US BY AT&T. DON'T EVER DIAL AREA CODE 809 This one is being distributed all over the US . This is pretty scary, especially given the way they try to get you to call. Be sure you read this and pass it on. They get you to call by telling you that it is information about a family member who has been ill or to tell you someone has been arrested, died, or to let you know you have won a wonderful prize, etc. In each case, you are told to call the 809 number right away.. Since there are so many new area codes these days, people unknowingly return these calls. If you call from the U.S. , you will apparently be charged $2425 per-minute. Or, you'll get a long recorded message. The point is, they will try to keep you on the phone as long as possible to increase the charges. WHY IT WORKS: The 809 area=2 0code is located in the Dominican Republic . The charges afterward can become a real nightmare. That's because you did actually make the call. If you complain, both your local phone company and your long distance carrier will not want to get involved and will most likely tell you that they are simply providing the billing for the foreign company. You'll end up dealing with a foreign company that argues they have done nothing wrong. Please forward this entire message to your friends, family and colleagues to help them become aware of this scam. 2. Got a hold of a chroming company called South Bay Chrome http://southbaychrome.com/ and received a quote Here's our pricing for the passenger floor boards: 1 set at a time: $40.00 ea piece x 2 = $80 10 -20 sets: $30 each x2 21-100 sets: $25.00 each x2 This obviously don't include shipping which would be needed both ways. I'm going to send in my set to see how they turn out and will get back with everyone. If they are indeed a quality finish, I will make arrangements with company on how to set everything up to do a quantity order. Hope this makes sense. All I know is if I can get a set of chromed floorboards for those anemic aluminum ones at 1/3rd to 1/5th the price, I'm in. God Bless. Mike

  5. The question I have is about buying parts, the part is shipped and was damaged. Who is responsible for the part to replaced at no cost to me, the shipper or the company I bought the part from? So far every company I have bought parts from have stated if the part is damaged in shipping, they would replace it, but not this particular Yamaha dealer. Was told to go through the shipping firm, otherwise I am out the money I paid for the damaged part.

    Sunglasses

This is a relatively blatant plug for a sunglass company I had some dealings with. The company is Panoptx/7Eye. The story: Bought a pair of sunglasses from a HD dealer ( was with a couple HD buddies, tax free day in MA and they were having a sale), about 1 1/2 yrs ago. Nice shades, photo grey type lense, very comfortable, eye cups for the wind and they didn't have any HD logos. Expensive ($150 on sale) but I like to buy nice stuff, it makes me take better care of it. Anyways a few months ago, they weren't changing stayed kind of a bronze color, not good in direct sunlight. Emailed the company, told them the problem, was informed that the lenses can be replaced ($60), because they do have a shelf life, an 18 month shelf life I ask? That's not right, send them in, we'll fix them, no charge. They even replaced the removeable eye cup thingy. Turn around time about 1 week, cost me $5 to ship them out to them, that's it. Good company, wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again. They even do prescription glasses, too. So if you're looking for some good quality sunglasses ( they aren't cheap, by any stretch of the imagination), I would definitely look at these.

    06 RSV on eBay

Hey folks - guess what I found?? Search eBay for Item # 130268795530 That is my old bike, that was written off by the insurance company. Interesting how the seller claims that "it can likely be repaired for a few hundred" when the insurance company told me it was $14K to repair it! I guess I got my "drop quotient" all factored incorrectly too ... looks like when we went down in Minden, it was only a "minor drop"!!! LOL Cheers,
  9. got my 1st speed ticket in 21 years yesterday , i was in the rite lane , not passing anyone on a 4 lane , lots of cars around me , the speed limit drops from 60 to 55 to 50 to 45 in 1.5 miles . i ask him to ck. my DL , and it shows that i am a safe driver and please call in a 27 and it prove i am a good driver , he said that it dos not make a dif. if i am a safe driver , it is my turn to get a ticket , the law of averages . WHAT !! i was thinking all these years i did not have to be a good driver , to keep from getting tickets , i just wait for my turn ! after he wrote the ticket and gave it to me , he told me a story about a few years ago he came to the company i work for to pick up somebody on a wants and warrants and the manager stalled him so the bad guy could slip out the back and how he hounded the company until he cought the badguy , that was 3 managers ago ! by the way , i was driving the company truck and he stopped me in the company parking lot . he told me i was doing 53 in a 45 zone and i did not read the ticket until i cooled downed 2 hours later , the ticket said i was doing 58 in a 45 zone and my court date is 11/04/08 at 9am !!! that only gives me Monday to pay the 210 dollar fine ! So if you are in Rockport Tx. it do's not make a dif. if your a good driver and drive with flow of the trafic , it mite be your turn to get a ticket and or it mite be what the sign reads on your truck . Ok i feel beter now i have let off some steam , i know i could fight the ticket and with the rite lawyer i would win than i would make all of Rockport PD mad at me and i would have to move , but i kinda like this town so i'll just put my tail between my legs and pay the ticket . [ i wonder if the Judge owns a RV , he, he , ] Thom

    Where to buy

Harbor Freight has a great little trailer it seems. The catch is I am in Canada, and they won't ship here. I've looked into getting it shipped to a friend in the US, but then the cost to get it here is not worh it. Any information on a company in Canada that sells a similar trailer to the Harbor Freight trailer? I've searched the internet, but maybe I am missing something...
  14. Well, by now I'm positive sure work is come on my way, and I have to cancel trip to Pork in the Pines. Sorry Guy's I Know this one is going to be a best one, but work suck sometime. On September 3rd, my company is sending me on training in Denver, CO. And I have to finish a ton of work before I leave. Big Hugs to all of you and especial one for Ann and Gary. Love You All
  15. I got an email the other day and then spoke on the telephone to a company that does custom paint jobs. He was interested in purchasing a banner on our site. I talked to him for about 30 minutes on the phone and he seems to be very customer oriented. His work is NOT cheap. It is top notch and professional. I do think though that, based on quotes that I've received in the past, his prices are fair for the type of work that he does. I declined the offer to sell him a banner simply because I haven't seen a LOT of interest here for high end custom paint jobs and I didn't feel that it was a perfect match for our members and I am committed to not adding banners just for the sake of making money. I do think though that this is a reputable company and worth checking out if you really want a nice custom paint job. I spent some time looking through the pictures on his site and really like the work that they do. They have been featured in many custom motorcycle publications, also television on the Biker Build-off and many other places. Here is the link for anybody who is interested. http://www.airea5150.com/
  16. Just ran across this company. I've never seen them mentioned here before and was wondering if anybody knows anything about them. They are a Canadian company. http://saddlebagsbytalisman.com/index.php
  17. Storms blew through the Twin Cities today. No real major damage but it did take out a tree in our back yard. It landed up against a pine tree and power pole, but missed the house and my new fence (so far). The power company said they will come out sometime next week. Worthless deadbeats. The full story is the tree spit down the trunk vertically and we noticed it a few weeks ago. I took down one half (half not near the power lines) and that stabilized it a bit. It had been widening the split in minor breezes. We called a tree service to remove the rest of the tree and they said they couldn't do anything until the power company came out and trimmed it back from the power lines. Well, the power company never showed up and today the storm did show up. Now they still won't show up for a week. Like I said worthless deadbeats.
  18. I had my Bushtec Trl. painted to match the 06 black cherry RSV. I did not seal the deck lid 3rd tail light correctley and developed a leak. Called bushtec, long story short... rode to their factory in Jacksboro, Tn. They fixed leak free. While there I had a luggage rack and bearings installed. No labor or installation cost. If you buy from them the labor is free. Met a GW rider there from Ga. who had ordered a trl. to match his GW paint job. He was leaving in one week for a ride out west. Bushtec could not have his trl. ready in time, so they loaned him one to pull for his trip., (unheard of). I have never dealt with a company that treated the customer so nice. Can not say enough for this company, if you get a chance tour their factory...If you come through Chattanooga, I will take you there. :cool10:
  19. Hi there. I need to ship a Royal Star Tour Classic II 1998 from Hudson Valley, New York to Norfolk Virginia. Any suggestions for a company or a person that would do this for a reasonable fee?
  20. Set up the screen room and got out the recliners today! For those ho have already been here, you know how nice it is. 21. I was wondering if any of you have ever had any good/bad (and with what company) experiences shipping a car. I've got to get a 1974 MGB MkIII roadster (nonrunning) shipped from Lincoln, NE to somewhere near my home. I've never had to use a shipping company before. When I bought a vehicle out of state I would either get a bus ticket and drive it home, or gas up the truck, grab the trailer, and go get it. With Diesel fuel being $4+ per gallon I'm thinking it might be cheaper and easier to just have it shipped. I'd appreciate any input any of you might have.
  22. Are there any members in the house who are workers at US Steel? We have recently been bought out up here in the frozen north by USS I would like to ask a few questions, especially if your company had been bought out by the same. Thanks.
  23. 24. The insurance company is going to total out my ride. It seems that it falls into the 75% bracket. The only problem I have with it is the insurance company will no longer allow me to purchase collision insurance. With that thought in mind it makes me wonder if I should strip my stuff off and let it go. Has anyone ever purchased a bike with a salvage title?? If so, what are the problems that go along with it? The only thing hurt, other than the handle bars, are the plastics, fairings, saddle bag, trunk, ect.. I hate to let a good ride go for only $1,600 more than they will give me if I keep it... One thing, I have no plans on trading up until Yahama comes out with a EFI system. By that time it may qualify for a museum.
  25. Folks the thing we are seeing with the toy industry is just the tip of the iceberg. In the 35 years I have worked, after four years in the military, most all of it has been in the Quality Assurance/Quality Control area of manufacturing. I spent over fifteen years for a company that made electric motors for the appliance industry with the last eight being the Corporate Quality Manager over four plants in three different states. Their product was the small motor usually used as the condensing fan motor in refrigerators, water coolers, coke machines, etc. When I left, they were producing 65,000 motors a week. Without naming names I will say that the largest customer's name started with a "W" and ended with an "L" and they made refrigerators and a lot of other appliances. At the time I left, the price of the OEM motor to them was about $7 each. If it was an aluminum frame motor, it was generally a fifteen year motor and if it was a cast iron frame motor, it was generally a twenty year motor. That means that under normal circumstances you did not have to replace that motor for about fifteen years at a cost of $75 to $100 bucks, if the refrigerator was still worth it. This included the service call. The motor sold to the general public for about $30 from a place like Granger. Several years ago, this famous customer decided they wanted to get motors from China and save a few buck on each refrigerator. Now the motor they are using is about a five year motor. Therefore, for them to save a couple of bucks, it would cost the average homeowner up to $200 to keep that refrigerator running over ten years. But then again, they are hoping that by five years you will want another new $1,500 or more refrigerator anyway. To put this into human perspective, the company I worked for had a plant that employed about 200 people (largest county employer) in one of the poorest counties in east Tennessee. This company had some of the most loyal employees that put out some of the best quality. The return rate on their motors was less than one tenth of one percent. That is less than one in a thousand, and historically half of those returns were customer induced problems. Now that plant is closed. After that company, I worked for a company that made aluminum and zinc castings. They also had three plants and then spent millions building a plant in Mexico. One of the castings they made was the case for the Tremeck six speed transmission that went onto the Corvette. They paid seventy cents per hour for labor to make parts for a transmission to go into a $60,000 car. That company ended up closing three plants including the one in Mexico. I have now been with a company that makes tank type water heaters for over four years. Now, almost everything that we use other than the tank and jacket comes from Mexico or China. The only reason they are still in the US is the physical size of a water heater. It absolutely breaks my heart to see what this country is doing with their manufacturing. One of these days it will be just one big service industry. RandyA
