  1. I know like hard seats but these guys are a bit on the extreme side. At least they thought of brakes.
  2. Greetings all, I'm pretty sure I saw some photos of a decaled 2nd Gen RSV somewhere on this site last year. The bike was a white one (2004?) and the owner had applied beautiful blue coloured "flame" licks that ran along the sides of the tank, onto the side covers and continued on to the panniers. I'm seriously thinking of dressing up my 2004 RSV a bit, and would like to get something similar done. Who remembers the photos, or better still - who owns that bike and posted those shots? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all. Stay safe.
  3. I was reading a post about someone needing a battery support bar. I have a good one that needs only a bit of paint. I also have a spare box. JB
  4. The Moon started into hiding about 15 minutes ago and it's pretty cool! The lower left quarter is now missing. We have broken clouds here so it kind of comes and goes, disappearing a little more each time; it lends a bit of Lon Chaney feel to it! It's only supposed to last about 50 minutes and be a dark orange at it's peak.
  5. Hi everyone, Sorry to have been hiding for a while. Had to finish a 1.5 year divorce from a 20yr. marriage. It kinda kept me down a bit since December. Couldn't go anyplace, show any money, or do anything that might upset the procedure. Well, Thursday was it. Before the judge for 15 minutes and done. Went Friday and signed the rest of the papers. Hell, I even hid Mocha - afraid that she might have been grabbed. Had to have Maggie purchase all the Christmas stuff this year and the whole 9 yards. I got custody of my daughter and the ex-wife is moving back to Ohio (Sorry Freebird). This week I will move my title over, get insurance back on and get back to living. Finished a bunch of maintenance this weekend and only need the CORRECT grommets to finish the valve covers. Hell, I finished 86er's rear headset jack even!! Thanks to everyone for being around. I never felt alone reading the posts. Almost felt like I was along for the rides. I know compared to many others, my problem wasn't big, but it sure depressed and stressed me quite a bit. JB
  6. I got my 2000 MM RSV all back together after replacing the fuel filter, bumping the carburetor jets up one step, opening up the air box openings, replacing the air filters with K & N, and replacing the intake manifolds. I even have the carbs all pulling together.. Man, you wouldn't believe how far out of sync they were. #1 and #2 were out just a bit and #3 and #4 were out a bit more but the difference between the two sets compared to each other was unbelievable !!!! I set the idle rpm to what felt right (no tack) then started tweaking. Got 1 & 2 in sync then 3&4. Had to drop the idle just a tad. When I started adjusting the sided to side sync the idle went through the roof.... I bet that sucker jumped 1000 rpm. Brought it back to earth then tweaked back and forth until all four were pulling the same. Now I anxious to go see what a difference this makes in performance. That will have to wait. I have lots more to do. I'm in the middle of the "Winter Tinker Time"..... :hurts: Folks if you haven't already become good friends with the tech pages - do so before starting any projects. Thank you so much for all the GREAT tips !!!!! If I hadn't looked at the carb sync tip I'd have been there for hours trying to figure out why things weren't working. I'm surprised Yamaha didn't catch that mistake in their shop manual...
  7. The weather, which has been beautiful here in the SE for the last few weeks is becoming more like it should be in Jan. Temps here this weekend will hit the 20's and and further north, like in SC, NC, etc, will have temps in the lower 20's with freezing rain/ice. We already had several cancellations and I sure dont want to see anyone have an incident while trying to come her in bad weather. I will reschedule this when it warms up a bit. The original intent was to help me build a deck, but since I hired someone to put down concrete pavers instead, we just decided to make it a regular type of M&E. I sure do appreciate everyone who was willing to help with this project and like I said, I will host something here at the house when the temps warm up a bit.
  8. what do you think ? i may become a dealer of these , a bit pricey thoe , it would make a good stand too
  9. I'm thinking of doing a stage 3 mod to one of the two sets of Harley pipes ( I don't know the part #'s of these pipes) or a set of stock pipes I have. The harley pipes are a bit louder then the stock pipes one of the sets being a bit louder then the other. I'm now running a set of turned out mufflers from JC Whitney PN ZX017037U which make the bike sound real good and they turn the heads of Harley rides. The JC Whitney's a 3 years old now and a bit beat up and they look bad on a new 07. My harleys are still in good shape and of course the stocks are in A1 condition. My question is does any one have a sound clip of the stock pipes or harley pipes that have had a stage 3 mod done to them? 32"longTurned Out MufflersZX017037U
  10. It as a nice warn, sunny afternoon on Novervember 1st when I started down a long, winding hill running about 25 mph. Suddenly, I realize some big dude is standing over me asking me what day it is. I finally gather enough strength to tell him to go ask sombody that cares. I just wanted to sleep for a bit longer. It seems that as I was going down the hill using my rear brake to slow me, I hit a bump in the road that made me mash my rear brake pedal more than gently. This started a slide that I did not recover from. The bike "highsided" and threw me over the guard rail to land on a steep bank on my back. The bike went over on it's right side, slid backwards for about 20 ft the came to a rest next to the guard rail. It felt strange to wake up, look at the bike, and realize it was going the wrong direction and was on the wrong side to have been making the turn I was making. Fortunately. the damage to me was minor. I can thank My Lord and the riding gear and helmet for protecting me. Other than a mild concussion and a very sore and bruised back I am OK. The bike on the other hand did not fare well. I was surprised at the small amount of damage that turned into a $7,800 (US) estimate. Because this is over 75% of the listed value of the bike, the insurance company is going to total it. I was offered what I thought was a very fair settlement and I could keep the bike. So this is what I plan on doing. The majority of the parts I will clean up and continue to use since they are only minor scratches on them. But there are a couple of major parts that i would like to replace with new ones. I will list these in another thread to see you anyone has some stock parts that they would like to get rid of. I know everyone in here shares a bit of the pain when a Venture Rider goes down so I want to thank each of you in advance for your prayers and "Get Well Wishes". From the deepest reaches of my heart, THANK YOU to each and every one of you.
  11. I have this neighbor, he's an older guy. He has a mint 1st gen 1300 parked in his garage around 8,000 miles on it. I've lived in my house going on four years and only saw him ride it once or twice. He will go out to his garage and just start it up, let it run for a bit and then shut it off. I feel sorry for the bike, it sound great and I'm sure it just want to get out there and run.........
  12. I have noticed that driver floorboards seem to be rare. I have seen a couple bikes with them on. Every set on e-bay seems to go quick and high. What's up with this. I am not really wanting heel-to shifting, just the bit of room that the boards offer. J. B.
  13. Hi All, By the time I got rolling this morning and got Sea Foam and boots the best I could do was south of Durham. Logged in 402 miles with side trips and everything. Heading for Atlanta and supper with 86er tomorrow. Bike is running good. Locked the cruise to its max and leaned back. Kinda cold and windy but fun. The Corbin seat took a bit to get used to but it is pretty good. Love the backrest!! Put 2 tanks of primium and the Sea Foam through. Idle is still a bit erratic but the off-idle twitch is gone. I saw a 1st Gen heading south earlier. It was loaded in the back of a truck with a boat in tow. Other than that, I only saw 2 Gold Wings. Here are a couple picks. JB
  14. Hi all, I have decided to run a basic interstate route and then deviate as various things require investigation. I will be running I95 to I85 then I65 into Atlanta. From there I may go to Memphis then down through Dallas. Or I will go through New Orleans and then Houston. After the first day I should be confident enough of the bike to take side runs. I haven't ridden in about 4 years other than a short hop around town. And since the bike is somewhat unknown I feel a bit of caution is in order. (Downloaded the sidestand bypass directions!!) I will carry the VentureRider list just in case. If you are on the route, give a shout and I will try and add a stop to my ride. I am carrying a new digital camera and I ain't afraid to use it. My cell phone is 210-373-7333. Obviously no bluetooth in the helmet but I can check it at my butt breaks. Looking forward to meeting folks. J.B.
  15. Well, I've got a new ride, and I am pumped, but the 86 VR will get listed in the classifieds when it's a done deal. I don't have it home yet, so am a bit apprehensive. The 86 is a beauty and will make someone a great ride. Steve
  16. Hey folks, I'm going up to Wichita, Kansas on October 16th to pick up my "new" 07 RSV from a friend there. Probably gonna take a quick run up to KC to see a friend there, then head back to North Texas. Sure love to see anyone who would like to meet up along the way or maybe do a bit of riding together. My broken collar bone seems to be healing OK, and I'm really looking forward to getting back on the road! Goose
  17. I just installed the Khrome Werks slip on mufflers on my '05 Venture and am quite happy with the sound. The only thing that concerns me is that when shifting into second or third gear on acceleration there is a "pop" if the revs are taken up a bit too high. Will this cause any problems? If so, what can I do about it?
  18. One of my passing lamps burned out. Does any one have suggestions as to a good brand replacement and where to buy? The ones I have are el-cheapo lamps. Not very bright. I would like them a bit brighter.
  19. The other thing I got done today was adding the proportioning valve to my rear brakes. This is a modification that Rick Butler came up with to make the rear braking on these bikes a bit less sensitive. This is another easy modification if you get the parts from Rick as I did. I did take pictures of the installation and will try to get a tech article posted tomorrow. Basically what this is though is a mini proportioning valve. You simply remove the rear brake line and screw this proportioning valve right into the rear brake master cylinder. You then install the new stainless steel line between the proportioning valve and your rear brake caliper. Bleed the brake and you are done with the install. The proportioning valve is adjustable. Rick sent it calibrated the same as the one on his bike and for initial testing purposes, I left it there. These things are hand adjustable and very easy to change. The first thing I did when I got a little ways down the road was to see if I would lock up the rear brake. Yep, I still can. It took more pressure than before the modification though and that is what I was looking for. To be honest, I think it actually still locked up easier than I want it to but like I said in another post, it has rained here off and on all day so it was really not a good time to be testing it. I am pretty much convinced though that this is going to end up being one of the top modifications available for our bikes when it comes to safety. Hopefully things will dry out around here a bit before the weekend is over and I can do some better testing. I may adjust it down a bit more so that it is even less sensitive yet but when I get on truly dry roads, I may find it to be fine just as it is.
  20. Where do you all prefer the height of the windshield on a first gen to be? As I sit now, the top of mine is about middle of forehead so looking over is a real stretch and I am thinking of cutting it down a bit but how is the airflow over the VR? I've had more vertical shields on crusiers but with the VR's more aerodynamic fairing, I am wondering how the flow of air is over it.
  21. Has anyone ever noticed this.... If I have the CB turned on with my 2006 Midnight Venture and I hit the horn, the horn plays through the speakers and not the horn itself! Bit of a safety issue, I would think... Anyone else have this problem? Skunk328
  22. Hi Guys, Speaking to a friend of mine who has an 05 Venture. He tells me that the engine in the Ventures can take alot. He suggests pushing it a bit harder and that you won't hurt the bike. I have an 07 Venture with about 5000 km on it. I don;t want to hurt my baby, but would like to rev it up a bit more.......is it ok to push it thru the gears harder? Thanks
  23. Seems nobody wants to admit to anything .... or few have had embarrassing moments (I doubt that). In 40 years of riding, I've only dumped my bike three times...and each time was when it was standing still !! First time I was parked at the edge of a grassed area. We were all at a party at a campsite. I decided to move my bike, went running across the grassed area and jumped onto my bike (from the side of the kick stand) as though I was the Lone Ranger mounting Silver or something. Granted, I'd had a few brewskies by this time. Well, my momentum when I hit the saddle caused the bike to fall over the opposite side. There I was, sprawled on the ground with my bike on top of me. That was sure the topic for quite a while. Second time was no biggie...it just fell over as I was backing up over bunch grass mounds down a bit of a slope. I didn't get caught under it but needed help from a neighbor to lift it up. Third time (with my 85 VR) I was parked in front of a bike shop. Came out, got on my bike (from the side stand side), plunked my butt down on the seat, heard a *snap* and down I went. Managed to push myself clear as the bike and me fell over. Several "bikers" were milling around and a few got a chuckle at my embarrassment. Had to get help lifting it again. Danged side stand broke. But that wasn't the worst of it. When I got home, I was having trouble getting off the bike and keeping it steady so that it wouldn't fall over... I'm a slender, older guy and that was a bit too much of a task for me (at the time coz I was still rattled from falling off it) so I had to ask this lady and her quite a bit older father to hold the bike steady while I got off and was able to get it onto the centre stand. Unfortunately for me, neither of them spoke english!!! Amazing what sign language can do! Well, I should count my blessings as at least I've never fallen off while in motion (and hopefully never will). That wouldn't be funny or embarrassing at all.
  24. Here is a question for all you mechanical gurus. The rear brake on my 05 RSTD has just started to bind while parked. I get on the bike and rock it a bit to see if I left it in gear, and find that it rocks only a little, but is in neutral. I can hear the rear brake rub a bit if I force it to move, and I can push the bike some and it will release a bit. then when I start the bike it is entirely free. What would cause the brake caliper to not release? This doesn't seem to happen when I am riding, when I'm stopped at a light it never binds up like that. OK Gurus, what are your ideas?
  25. Saw these on e-bay. The guy has sets for many bikes and has misc assortments and individuals as well. I'm tempted, but wonder if the stainless is strong enough that they won't have a problem being torqued. Stainless is typically a bit softer than regular steel isn't it? Anyone tried them? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150111682796&sspagename=ADME:B:AAQ:US:1
