1. Looking to order a set of hiway pegs for my 2009 RSV, Can't seem to find the size of the crash bar...anyone know this off hand so I don't order the wrong size ??? Thanks CP
2. Come to my party...after 38 years of work, I am retiring on Sept. 1st...I am hosting a retirement party on August 27th here in Evansville! All are welcome. It's @ Sportsmans bar on Franklin Street!
3. Hello Everyone: Just wanted to thank everyone who commented on Flanders handlebar upgrade. It convinced me to order the bars. I installed the bars on Saturday and rode 300 pain free miles on Sunday. No more burning neck pain!!!! I will try to get around to getting pictures posted. I came up with a very good easy cheap way to save the bar weights. Any questions are welcome. I am glad to provide advise just like all you have done. Thanks......
4. Yesterday I filled up the bike and then a little while later I noticed one bar on the fuel gauge blinking. When the bike is started, all the bars blink then only one bar blicks. Sending unit or is it in the display, or did a wire come off. ? Brad
5. Have a 2005 Tour deluxe and need the quick release sissy bar. fender mounts are intack need the rest
6. I put an ad in the classified for a new set of Carbon 1 crash bar braces with chrome clamps for $45 shipped. I sold the bike and didn't get them sold.
7. Just wondering how you were doing; what week did you head out to make it to MD. was just wondering if you are bringing the Harley if you left in time to keep putting all the parts back on: you know a day of riding and then two days to get it running again. also knowing HD riders only ride from Bar to Bar or Party store to party store and have to take a break so people can see them standing out side by there bikes. WOW! its going to take you longer than i first thought to get there; i best get out the calculator and refigure it for ya:think: see ya there Dray:smile5:
8. dang not much money but 400 a month paid some bills anyways. the bar owner said he,s giving up the bar after 40 years. guess i cant blame him. i use to clean up on the weekends and got a free meal as well. he gave me $350.00 tonight and i didnt even work for it. he said its all i can do for ya son son i like that im 51 LOL. he said to many bars in the area. and its a younger group now. he bid me good luck and we went our ways. wish i had 65 grand for this nice little bar. holds 50 pepole inside and has a small patio deck in the summer and good music too. im going to miss the old boss and the good pepole that came there too.
9. I went down yesterday after going through a construction zone with a lot of crushed stone. I'm ok but my leathers got some road rash as well as 1 boot. I was on a secondary paved hi way that they were replacing alot of culverts. In the section where they removed the asphalt they filled it in and then put 10-12" of loose crushed stone. I went across one section doing maybe 50km's (30mph) and felt the rear of the bike go a bit so I slowed down for the next one....next thing I knew I was slidng across the ground and the bike was heading for a ditch. It stopped before going over the bank. It went down on the left side and then it flipped to the right. Not a whole lot of damage other than cosmetic from what I can tell so far. My right lower cowling is trashed and the crash bar it self is bent. I had a set of the crash bar supports on and kinda think that saved me from getting more damage (it did break but I think it can be rewelded if its not bent). My handle bar ends didn't touch the ground or the mirrors either. So I'm kinda thinking slowing down wasn't such a good idea? I do have a rub mark on my fairing.....has anyone have one sanded and painted before? My thoughts on the crash bar supports......I think they saved me from having alot more damage...and my V/R gremlin bell of course! I didn't realize I went down on my left side at all because I saw no damage but was puzzled why my left boot and chaps were scuffed. It was only on the way home when we stopped to check the tie down straps on the trailer that my friend noticed the left front bar was worn down a nice bit. It was then I was able to put it all together.....it happened so fast I wasn't really sure what had happened. So I went down on the left and it flipped over to the right all in about 30 ft. To add some humor to it I called my sweetie and said " I just went down on my bike" she replied " did you do much damage to the bike!"....I immediately asked..."what about me" She just assumed I dropped it! So now its panic time......was planning to go on a 10 day trip the end of this month.....I hope Yamaha has the parts. If anyone has triked and have some rear crash bars available I may be interested. Be careful out there!! Keith
10. Hi, My blue bike's (60,000 miles) clutch friction point is noticeably closer to the bar than my red bike's (13.000 miles). Both are '84 xvz12's btw. I am trying to make up my mind whether something is deteriorating or if it is just the nature of the beast. All seems to work fine but the friction point on the blue bike is quite close to the bar and when released the lever does not fully return to the all the way out position leaving a big dead zone where the lever movement has no tension on it at all. The friction point is quite useable and comfy for my hand, but now I have two bikes I can't help but notice differences. Perhaps its just me being anal or perhaps I have some work to do. I am going to flush the fluid with fresh but meanwhile, these questions occur to me: As the clutch friction surfaces wear, am I correct to assume that the friction point comes closer to the bar? I read about weak clutch springs on these bikes, does this scenario fit the description for that? How big a job is it to supplement clutch springs as some describe doing on these old gals? Other suggestions ? Thanks, Brian H.
11. I ordered the Light Bar Bracket from Tony on here and today when I thought I would at least loosen the bolts that holds the light bar on...I barely could get the right one out...but it finally broke loose and I was able to unscrew it. But the left one was already slighly worn out...and it is so tight I can't get it. Now the 5mm hex key can't get a good hold in the bolt. Why would they tighten those THAT tight...especially when they are so hard to get to. I even bought a set of ball end hex wrenches. So, short of taking the thing back to the dealer to put the bracket on...anyone got any ideas as to a way to remove this wollared out bolt. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Wally
12. Just installed the S.O.M.A. light bar part# SBRLK. The light bar is on sale now for $44.95. I live close enough so I just took a ride to pick it up. One hour to install. It really lights up the back of the bike. Good riding to all Dave
13. I read somewhere on the fourm that the only real rule was to post pictures of your ride so I thought I would follow rules and show off tanto. I've had him for about a year and I don't know a whole lot about him, but I hope to learn some stuff here. It seems to me (from looking at other 96's) that theres quite a bit of aftermarket chrome on him, would I be right? And is are the seats and sissy bar stock or aftermarket? Also, I'm pretty sure those wheels are aftermarket right? Also I posted a picture of my other bike, which is a Suzuki Intruder 805 http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/ad19/fsatatkid/th_royalstar1.jpg http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/ad19/fsatatkid/th_royalstar2.jpg http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/ad19/fsatatkid/th_suzuki.jpg http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/ad19/fsatatkid/th_royalstar.jpg
14. Hello all! I'm Steve. I have a 1997 Tour Deluxe and I need a sissy bar and luggage rack for it. Anybody have one for sale? To be honest, the bike already has a sissy bar, but it may be custom made because I havent been able to identify the brand and it seems like all the luggage racks are brand specific! I'm gonna link a pic of the sissy bar I currently have on the bike, if anyone can help that would be fantastic! Thanks http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm6/beendad/backrest.jpghttp://http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm6/beendad/backrest.jpg[/img]
15. I was buttoning up the fairing after several weekends of maintenance and mods and noticed something on the bottom of my passing lamp bracket. There are 2 little squares welded onto the bar that appear to have tapped holes in the bottom of them. This might be a nice place to add an aux light mounting bracket. If no one knows what I am talking about, I will post a picture. Thoughts? RR
16. I had mentioned I bought a nice old Harley davidson, light bar, from an 1985 Police bike. after reviewing the HOW-TO on this site. I started the project. 45 minutes later, they red light bar was done, works great. I now have 4 brake lights on back. now if I only had a camera that worked....
17. I have finished the mods I felt are a MUST for a RSV. Mine is a 2008 Venture optioned as a S model. My "Must Do" modification/add list is as follows: clean & weatherproof the radio/CB cable connectors fabricate & install Engine Guard Braces buy & install Tony Dathan's Passing Lamps Light Bar Spacer Bracket buy & install Rick Butler's Bag Bolts buy & install Rick Butler's Seat Thumb Nuts buy & install a Stebel Air Horn (or equivalent) - I installed mine in the fairing & kept the other horns also working replace the six OEM windshield/fairing 5mm bolts with longer bolts (about 1/4 inch longer) & use bigger washers (almost like fender washers) to minimize chance for breaking the ABS fairing when tightening buy a small tool pouch... fill it with some tools, tie wraps, etc. - dump the OEM tool kit stuff in the pouch & place it in a side bag buy a Shock Air Pump/Gauge & stick that in your tool pouch buy Rain Gear & stick it in a side bag buy a GPS & RAM Mount for long rides buy a good pair of headsets for CB/radio/intercom gut the tape deck & modify it for Zune/IPod/Mp3 player storage & extend the AUX input with a cable buy & install a good set of handlebar grips - modify them to retain the factory handlebar chrome weight extensions That is it for what I believe to be the MUST things I had to do for my Venture. Remember, these items/changes are simply my opinions. I do not believe that it is worth fabricating & installing brackets for attaching the ends of the windshield mounting bar to the speaker nuts. The bar has plenty of holding power from the center two bolts & leaving the ends to float, makes installing the upper fairing & windshield back in place easier. JohnB
18. I got me some wizzard lightes for the bike but they didnt come with any directions on the best places to put, were is everyone putting theres at? I also got some driving lights that mount on the crash bar but they were out of the mounts for the crash bar at the show and they told me they are 25 from the dealer does any one know what I need to get here?? Thanks
19. I made a guage plate at work. Designed it at home using Cimatron E8.5 design software. Programmed it at work using WorkNc 17. I matched the contour of the dash and also the recess that was below the tape deck door. Came out pretty nice. I am going to polish it and probably have it anodized dark blue to match the Galaxy Blue of the bike. I am also adding a tach to the right handle bar. I have it designed, just waiting for a machine to open up to cut the housing and clamp. I will post pics as the project progresses.
20. Trying to show pics, guess I'm not smart enough to import them. I'll keep working on it. Anyway the 2007 RSV is now in my garage! Accessories are: light bar, radiator grill, saddle bag rails, trunk rack, and LED light bar under the trunk. Sure is nice. Next door neighbor thought it was brand new.
21. Hi everyone I am looking for some advice and ideas. I would like to upgrade the sterio and speakers on my Venture. I have read some threads and I would like any or all opinions on what to do. I have XM and GPS mounted on the handle bar and hardwired. I would like any ideas you may have .Thank you very much. PS looking to do a lot changes this spring.
22. Sweet, after a year of loose light bar issues and frustrations with vibes, cut wires and what ever else, the job is done and doods, if *I* can do it, anyone else can lol.. if your bolt hole threads in the lower triple tree clamp are munged or stripped, this is the fix for you.. Or even if you're sick and tired of not ever being able to get them frikken bolts in proper, this would be a good fix as well.. I have tried to find the link or threads of this aluminium block adapter that mounts your highway light bar ahead of your fairing so that you'll never ever have to remove your light bar to take off the front fairing.. if someone can find it, please advise.. this is an awesome adapter. I had never been before able to make it work for various reasons and now I know why.. nothing wrong with the adapter, it's AWESOME but my bike, for what ever reason, always rejected the adapter or proper installation of the light bar.. Me being the 3rd owner of this magnificent bike, I'm finding a lot of previously buckshee maintenance done to the bike causing me problems.. Now that I have my heated garage for the winter, boom, time to fix it all up proper.. and the light bar is my first victim.. mou'aha.. The main ingredient was to use a 2 inch 7/16th bolt with washer and lock nut (nylon insert) or what ever you feel safe with.. As you'll notice, in the photo, I had to nibble away at the shroud with a dremel tool to make tool alignment easier. These are the bolts passing through the triple tree clamp.. The bolts mounting the light bar are now Loktite and have a lock washer as well.. (if I ever have to remove this again for what ever reason, I'll have found proper sized washed to put under the bolt heads in the recess, but couldn't find them around here).. http://www.myvstar.ca/venture06/mount001.jpg The shot below is taken from the floor looking up in front of the radiator. The brake line splitter is removed as is the half moon mud flap (2 bolts each). You'll want to remove these for easier and better access to the nuts. As you can see, the threaded portion of the triple tree clamp where your highway lamp attachment bolts bolt into isn't all that thick after all.. so the 2 inch bolt used here leaves enough thread showing for safety (min 3 threads etc).. When you're torquing down the bolts, you'll want to be very careful and ensure your wiring isn't being pinched or caught in behind the adapter block.. I have mine laying across the top and out to the left side (kick stand side) of the block. http://www.myvstar.ca/venture06/mount002.jpg Photo below shows why I thought it best to nibble away at the shroud for better access to the bolt head. I used a thin walled 7/16 deep socket to turn the bolt head to get the nut started. However, when the nut tightens up against the washer, its best to turn the nut, and not the bolt to avoid damaging the adapter.. There is sufficient 'bolt head size' to take up the hole without a washer.. but if you're able to fit a washer down that recessed hole, the better. http://www.myvstar.ca/venture06/mount003.jpg Below is the hardware I used.. go for high tensile steel if you're going to torque onto these puppies.. http://www.myvstar.ca/venture06/bolt.jpg Below is where a lot of my problems with wiring happened, the wiring would basically drop down into the fork stops and be guillotined causing shorts, failures and freaking annoyances like you wouldn't believe.. I had used a zip tie to hold this bundle up and away from the fork stops but they eventually fell into them again something got nicked.. Now that the bike is sitting high and pretty on the jack adapter, I'll be able to do properly tuck these bad boys away for good.. http://www.myvstar.ca/venture06/wires-cut.jpg So there ya go.. the hardest part of all this was finding out what proper sized bolt I should be using.. originally I had started with a 2.5 inch bolt but the shank was too long so the 2 inch bolt was perfect.. It will be a while before I can test ride this set up properly but I think this is the permanent fix for my bike.. no more BS with munged threads etc.. never more having to drop the light bar to remove the fairing.. Ahhh nice.. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free..
23. My light bar will be the death of me.. 6 month after getting the bike the bar got loose and I could tighten it but man what a pain in the patootie to access those bolts properly etc.. Earlier this summer I stopped at a Yammy shop in Maine to get my shock replaced under warranty and they were kind enough to fix a wiring problem I had in the front.. but in the process they took the bar off, but appears it didn't get installed properly as I've been having to re-tighten it all the time and it never seemed to really tighten.. When I put the bike up on jack recently to do some winter maintenance on it, I noticed how very loose the bar actually is and that one bolt is completely loose.. It won't tighten yet it won't come out. I'll have to pull the whole front fairing off to access it properly but alas, I can't pull the fairing off if I can't get that bolt out to move the lights out of the way.. what the heck?! So the big question is: what part of the triple tree are these bolts actually threaded into? It always seemed that if I didn't get the bolt started at just the perfect angle they would simply turn and turn and turn but never tighten, then angle it a bit and boom it would tighten.. It seems there is something amiss other than a stripped bolt or dead threads back in there and I can't see well enough back in there to determine what the heck is going on. the two local Yami shops can't even figure out what bolts I need to order to replace the existing ones as apparently these bolts magically "poof" appear whenever they need to install a light bar.. Can anyone toss in some insight to this problem or even be able to help me acquiring new bolts for this issue? I purchased the extension block which move your light bar ahead enough to permit your fairing removal without taking down the light bar but once again I had issues installing this block because of that acute angle of the bolt issues.. I could never get that block to tighten up properly.. A most frustrating situation.. sigh... Almost to the point of ripping the whole dang thing off and buck-sheeing signal lights up to the fairing and adding highway lamps to the forks.. at least they won't come loose after a few hours of riding.. help!
24. what size is the crash bar and what size highway pegs will fit it.
25. Submitted by Tony Dathan. Problem: One of the common complaints about the Yamaha passing light kit for the RSV is that it mounts so close to the fairing that removing the fairing becomes very difficult requiring one to either remove or loosen the passing light bracket. Installation: When the bracket arrives you will need 2 3/8" NC x 3/4" long bolts and lock washers. I got these at Home Depot for under two bucks. Undo your light bar. Use the 8mm bolts to fasten the bracket where the light bar was and then using the 3/8" bolts bolt the light bar to the bracket. Most of us that have the bracket can now split the fairing without touching the light bar or at least just loosening it a few turns. Might depend on the actual lights you have. Basically you undo the light bar, put the bracket where the bar was, then mount the light bar to the bracket! How to get one: You can contact me at dathan@shaw.ca The price at this time is $27.50 USD. That includes the postage as well! The following are some shots I've taken in the past! #5 shows the clearance between the back of the light and the fairing. This started as a way of my being able to clean between the light and the fairing. Taking the fairing off without touching the light bar was just a huge bonus! Attached Thumbnails Sorry to bring this up again, but, I can't find these bolts at Home Depot or anywhere else. Must they be this exact size? The salesman I spoke with didn't know what NC was. I don't either. And is it two & three eighths by three quarters or the quantity 2 of size three eighths by three quarters. Could the NC mean non-corrosive, i.e., stainless steel? Finally, what do the numbers refer to? As you can see, I'm not too mechanical. Thanks in advance for being gentle. LOL
