1. Wanted: Old "Bad" Venture Coils I put a temporary sticky with this message in the General Tech area, but since I haven't heard from anyone, thought I'd give it a try here too. I was hoping some of those coils that folks have recently replaced might still be laying around! If you have one and are willing to part with it, I will happily pay for the shipping, or just ride to your place and pick it up! Thanx. ================================================================== I want to get my hands on old coils that anyone has taken off when suspecting them to be bad. Interested in coils from any models, but particularly 2nd gens. I have an old automotive oscilloscope that I want to use to try and identify what the "normal" cause of the failure is, and if there is anything we can do about it. In addition, I would like to see if I can devise some sort of test that anyone can use (without a scope or special tools) to accurately identify a bad coil. If you have changed one or more and are just going to toss the old coils, will you please send them to me instead? PM me and I'll send you my address. You can just slip one or more into a free Priority Mail flat-rate envelope (no weight limit) for $4.95. I'll gladly send you the $5 postage. Thanx, Goose
2. Yep, not kiddin' ya,,, fed up with all this sitting around, looking at the computer screen, hobbling around on one leg,,,,reading the 'newspaper' watching all the scoots going past as though there is nothing going on,,,,,napping,,,,,eating,,,,,,,... After all the bike is ready, the weather is excellant,,, and all the bad drivers have gone south and the roads should be quiet,,,,,,,and best of all Mrs. Jopie is cooking supper,,,,,, get the cage ready hon,,, we're on or way.

4. This poor guy had a real bad day http://www.wndu.com/hometop/headlines/51749807.html
5. I don't make it to the rally in Harrison, AR. I've read and read the articles about adjusting the float levels in several posts so I finally convinced myself I should at the very least check them. So I now have RSV parts strung all over two garages. I hope I remember where all them little parts go. I'm mostly just kidding but I did take them apart and adjust the level and pretty much followed Goose's write up about it. I do wish he would correct the picture so that it shows the proper way of checking the floats. Anyway mine were not to bad I guess, two of the floats were .22 and the other two were .28. I now have them adjusted to what I think is .34 if I am measuring them right. I do not have the bike back together but I have a lot of confidence it will be fine. The thing I'm really looking forward to is the 10 percent increase in gas mileage that Goose promised. BOO
6. Well,The bad news is Debby will not be making the Rally with me..Health just will not allow it. The good News is overall She is OK just too many surgeries on the neck. The other good news is I am going to be able to make it along with no other than " Wild Hair 39" Just got off the phone with him so we are going to TRY and ride up there. I told him I will help him pick it up if his leg gives out sooooo Have the Geritol ready the two senior citizens will be pulling in Sunday night at the Hub!
7. Thanks for all the input, actually everyone was right on and it helped resolve the "bad new" battery problem, never had one before. Another "new" Interstate battery and it fired right up, thanks again.
8. RE: the excessive backfiring can it be caused by a bad "Air cut valve" or a bad "Reed valve" and has anyone had to replace them? and if so are there any after market ones available, and if so where from? and could this be the reason for my excessive backfiring when down shifting, as my carbs are synced properly. I shall look for your response. Thanking You..Mobile
9. Not mine!!! Saw this '89 at a broker in Sioux Falls, SD Not a bad looking bike from this one photo. http://www.powerbrokersinc.com/show.aspx?vid=1364515&stockno=T05192 Just putting it out there. Dave
10. I'm considering buying an inversions table. I would like to hear from anyone that has one or has used one. Good or bad. Thanks for the help.
11. Had impromptu meet&greet-maintenance and eat day on Canada day but without a ride. We worked on Wizard765's new trailer and Evan from Toronto area bike to fix a couple things. It turned out to be a not so bad day with threatening skies but no rain just a few sprinkles. Carl did a good job on the trailer and it should be done soon.We had good food & conversation. Too bad we couldn't see a few more people but maybe next year! Even talked Phanton Wife(My wife Beverly) to come and eat & converse with us for a while! Here are a few pics of trailer.
12. Wife and I were out last weekend going on a round trip ride of about 100 miles. We were at a red light at an intersection near our place shortly after leaving the house. The light turned green and I started out to make a left turn. I noticed a car coming from the left on the crossing street and figured it would stop. Luckily I kept my eye on the car as it went through the red light and intersection at about 40 mph (speed limit is 35). I hit the brakes; my wife who didn't see the car, slid forward and our helmets hit. We came to a stop about 20 feet from where we would have been clobbered. The driver appeared to be an old man who must have been startled when he saw me start out as he was looking up at the light as he went through to see what color it was. We did our trip, but I was much more careful at interesctions than I normally am, and I am normally pretty careful. Too bad no cops around then. Not all elderly drivers are bad drivers, but there are a lot of people on the road who shouldn't be there anymore. We were lucky that day. Be careful out there!!!
13. Well, My SUV has been slowly crapping out and I knew with what was coming it was going to really cost me. Yesterday, I decided to go looking for something New to trade for, before I sunk even more $ into a lost cause. BAD NEWS - Robbed My Motorcycle Trip fund -I found a 2009 Extended Cab F150 that I traded for, but to do so I had to rob my trip money for down payment. Good News - New 2009 F150 - Man is it nice to have a truck again. Actually the truck with the V8 is going to get as good or better than my SUV did and I'll have even more towing power for my enclosed trailer. Bad, Bad News - With all my trip $ gone, I will NOT be coming to the International Rally in August. Oh well, S--t happens, I'll just be riding a lot of day trips. Got to talk to LA about the HUB room I had reserved for us and see what he wants to do. You'all better take lots of pictures

17. Does anyone have a roadsofa on their venture, what about the good and the bad of this seat. Gregg
18. My brother , Ron, had to be life flighted to Corpus Christi , yesterday. had a pretty severe heart attack. 19. I have the J & M 2003DU (dual unit for driver/passenger) handle bar unit with the EdSets unit and have been plugging the EdSets lower cord into the J & M plug that comes from the J & M unit (don’t know if I am saying the right terminology) - have not had any problems for over a month. Last week, while I was installing “other stuff – not CB related” - I wrapped the antenna cable (under the gas tank) with rubber splicing tape to better seal it. On a chapter ride Sunday, I couldn’t hear anyone – though some could hear me when I spoke. Then, sometimes, I could only hear the Venture next to me – albeit with a lot of static, and no one up front (we had 18 bikes) could hear me and I couldn’t hear them.. During the ride, another member with the J & M complete set up in their helmet plugged their unit into my J & M out plug and everything worked great. In hindsite – I didn’t do this – was plug my helmet into their unit and try and trouble shoot it that way. I still hear the music through the EdSet unit, but no CB. I played around with the squelch / intercom – nothing worked though sometimes – if I had the squelch / intercom set real high – I periodically heard a little static. Could I have a bad lower cord from the EdSet unit – or bad connection / mic in my helmet? Maybe a bad antennae? I found it amazing as too how much I have come to depend on the CB – for the groups safety, etc. Any thoughts you might have would be greatly appreciated. I have some weekend trips coming up within the next week – and need to solve my problem.
20. Took a 200 mile ride today with members Hoffy and Buffalo Bodnar....well, the diet started off ok with a couple of turkey dogs from the grill. then it went down hill from there...we ended up at one of my favorite restaurants in LeRoy ny..bad food...bad... I mean good food , just bad for my diet..then that d@#m Hoffy forced me to have desert...this is after he messed up our meeting place in the am and I was forced to buy a piece of cheesecake at another of my favorite eateries while waiting for him to arrive ...He missed our place to meet by 45 miles.......Then after only thirty minutes in the saddle, he and his sidekick (BUFFALO BODNAR) FORCED me to stop for ICE CREAM.......WHOOOOO, I need friends who won't shove all that fatty food down my throat..... its all your fault guys if I gain any weight before MD...yeah,... its all your fault..and thats the story I'm sticking with....:fnd_(16):
21. Went for a nice ride today. Daughter rode with me, wife on her bike and the neighbors joined us. Had to get on the brakes hard once and noticed the pedal pulsing under my foot so I tried to stay off the rear brake. Got home and removed the rear caliper. The inside pad was down to the metal. 23,000 on these original pads. Is that good, bad, average? So of course this has to occur after all dealers are closed, on a holiday weekend. can't do anything until Tuesday. I hope it rains for the next few days.
22. Check out Wanderer20090516MyrtleBch. My apologies to the Augusta Meet n Eat, but we got reports of bad weather and headed the other direction. We did well and missed m_o_s_t of the bad weather going and coming.
23. A couple pics in Crackerbarrels parking lot Thurs. evening. Friday brought bad weather. That ol' Snarley guy and LA didn't scare me (to bad) so hopefully I will ride back down Sat and at least have breakfast with the bunch. If the ones I met are a representation of all the VR members, seems like a good crowd to be in.
24. OK folks, the guy told me that the fuel gauge was out on the '89 but I just figured I would find a bad fuse or something. Actually, the entire computerized monitor is dead. NOTHING is working on it. Fuel gauge, warning indicators, even the clock below. I pulled it out last night and we resoldered all the pins on where the connectors plug in but still nothing at all. I then checked for power and according to the wiring diagram, the black wire is ground and I think it was red that was hot. Anyway, it is getting power when you turn on the key but nothing is working. Does anybody have a spare for sale or even that I could use to make sure that it's the monitor itself that is bad. Unless some of you have other ideas, I've about determined that the actual monitor is bad.
25. Hey guys see alot of post aboout air preasure in front forks but cant find why its bad to run more than 7lbs anyone care to explain thanks
