  1. Awesome day for riding yesterday... left home around 9:30, tripped around the lower mainland/Fraser Valley, got back home around 5:30. Smoked a couple Harleys but when I tried to take on a PORSCHE ..... :crying: I always wondered how quick those thing were ... now I know!
  2. looks like no long trips this year,, we have a couple of new additions that will require our attention.
  3. Check tires!! I looked my Cub Cadet over but didn't pay much attention to tires. They had air in them. Guess one was lower than I thought. Made a couple laps and rolled it off the rim. Didn't know they made 1st gen mower in 09!!
  4. I just have to say how happy I was to find this forum and I'm new here. I recently bought a 2006 RSTD which went into service April 07 so it still has a couple of years of warranty but after a few rides I had some things come up that I wanted to look into. First off I had the moaning shock issue which I found out through looking through the forums is not that unusual and that the shock is a bit of an issue on these bikes. The other question I had was about what oil and filter to use and other maintenance items which I also found answers to. So I guess right at the moment I haven't any thing else to look up but wanted to say that while reading through the many many threads I realized what a supportive and knowledgeable bunch of people hang out here and that I'm glad I found you all!
  5. Check out a few of the Pics in my VbGallery. Had an awesome time even if it was only a couple of hundred miles. Who says we can't ride in the great northwest in March.
  6. Vacation coming up soon. Has anyone ever made the ride from Apache Junction to Roosevelt Dam (Hwy 88)? How long does it take? Trying to figure out how much water to take. Nope not taking the RSV, renting a couple of dualsports.
  7. I was going through the treads this morning and ran across the one where Ky,Rider lost his keys at a rest stop. Uturn posted some blank codes. So I decided I better do it right now or I'll be one stuck somewhere. So I took the codes with me and went down and a couple keys made (only cost me $4.00 a key) so all I have to do is hide one on the bike and I'll be set. Thanks guys for jarring my brain. One less thing I have to worry about.
  8. Well, it's official, I've crossed over to the DARKSIDE!! Um, that sounds ominous, doesn't it! Got the Kumho mounted today but destroyed my new air compressor in the process! Oh well, it is still under warranty. Haven't gotten use to the tire yet. Only put about 25 miles on it today. May have to adjust the air pressure a little bit. Started out with 45 psi. What's everyone else running? Ran it up to 85mph, a couple of times. No problems. Put in 2 oz of dynabeads and let me tell you, those things work! I know, I know, gota take it easy for a couple hundred miles! I guess it'll get broken in on the way to Crabshack this Sat.
  9. What's a good multimeter these days? Is there a better instrument than a multimeter? Prefer a digital readout. I had one and have been looking for it for a couple weeks now. I know where I usually keep it and where I had it last, but seems to have gotten up and crawled away.
  10. Has anyone installed these. I have a friend who did and I noticed a couple of the LED lights burned out. Was wonder about the quality. http://www.customdynamics.com/Yamaha_tail_retro.htm
  11. i have two cousins going to Daytona bike week later this month and are trailering their bikes down south. they are looking for a safe place to park a pickup truck and enclosed trailer for a couple of weeks. they will be heading down I-75. can anyone out there in the southern States help them with a place to park? cheers, Scott
  12. Her is a new one that I can not figure out. I have a 96 GMC K1500 P/U, pretty much loaded with all of the toys. Whenever the engine hits 4000 rpm the alternator shuts off. The voltage drops from the normal 14.2 down to 11.5 and all of the lights dim noticeably and the truck starts to run rough. As soon as the rpm drop back under 4K the voltage comes back, The voltage changes like you threw a switch, it does not come in and out gradually. This voltage drop is being measured on both the dash gauge and a separate digital voltmeter. It does not matter if I am driving or parked, it still does this right around 4K rpm. It has been doing this for a couple of years now. I have since replaced both the alternator and the battery (yes they were bad) but that had no effect on this problem. Any ideas??? As long as I stay under 4k the charging system is fine. Typically the only time I do hit 4K is when I pull out to pass a slowpoke on the highway and the trans downshifts.
  13. After losing our beloved beagle last week ,Taters and I have decided to look for a basset hound...the house is not the same without our beloved Casey...It is way to calm and quiet.. No begging at supper time..no asking for a roooool, no tat, tat, tat of her nails on the ceramic tile floor, and no chew toys to step on. Taters and I have to talk to each other way too much now. She told me to get with it and tear down the old dog pen and build a new one with a tile floor and and big enough for a stuffed chair so our new pup won't have to stay in a crate when were at work and until she is house broken....So you know why I haven't been here for the last couple of days...new pens about half done...found a women in AUBURN, NY whos dog will be having a litter in a couple of weeks..talked to her on the phone and waiting for an e mail with her addy to send a deposit...she didn't want one but I insisted as a show of our intent to buy...haven't heard from her today, but sure she was just busy...I and taters have raised and bred beagles for many years...why a basset...we dont know !... If anyone has one I would be very interested to know what you think of the breed....I know like other hounds about watching the ears and their weight (THE LITTLE MOOCHERS) and about the howling and the elongated spine...Trying to learn everything about the breed....If you have or had one ,I would sure like to hear from you and any advise is welcome...PLEASE... Taters is way, way to talkative and expect me to actually listen and answer her when she speaks...
  14. Back home from my hernia surgery.Really sore and on a liquid diet for 3 days.If I could catch a couple of the cats I might just...........................EAT SOMETHING.
  15. Haven't riden in quite a while, but the Nolan on the shelf was looking pretty ugly with bug juice remains and dust all over it. So not having anything fun to do for the time being I got out the can of Pledge and gave it the once over. Cleaned up well. Then I looked at the liner. Whew!!!!! Not a pretty sight. Lots of DNA laying everywhere. I'd never done it before but Nolan says the liner is removable for washing... so I did eventually get it out of the shell. Tossed it in the washer on gentle with a couple of towels. Came back a couple of hours later and dug the liner out. I wasn't going to toss it in the dryer... I ain't that dumb.... so shaped it close to what it originally looked like and set it aside to air dry. Some of the thin foam parts were chewed up on the edges, but not bad, so next time it's going to be a hand wash job. The labels were no longer black and unreadable, and it cleaned up pretty well. The hardest part was getting the liner back into the shell, but eventually I got it figured out. Next time I'll take a pic... Put the helmet back on the shelf, and lookin' good!!
  16. I finally (over the last couple of days) was able to get out and put a few miles on the bike. I actually now have over 200 miles (WHOOPEE), not bad for a guy that averages about 8000 miles a year...I'll catch up though. So I was out today and shot a couple of pictures, I guess they all look similar so nothing earth shattering here...I think you might be able to see my Zumo 660 in one or two of the pics. I beefed the pics up a little though...since most of the ventures look the same. Wally
  17. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1983-Yamaha-Venture-touring-motorcycle-PARTS-BIKE-only_W0QQitemZ190363592648QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_motorcycles?hash=item2c528de7c8 This one looks a little better than parts but no title. Guy doesn't know what he is talking about. Couple thousand miles closer I would look at it.
  18. We just got back from a week in Colorado. What a great ride. The weather was perfect for the whole week except the 1st day, which was ok, since we were acclimating to the 10,500 elevation of the condo that day anyway. One note, our Ventures run great in the mountains. I was riding with a couple of new Harleys, one 08 & one 09, I could climb Loveland Pass at 65 mph, 2up with the cruise on and the harley guys were wondering why I was running so hard! Here are a few pics.
  19. I went to the Dealer today and was going to go ahead and get a couple of keys made. I had one of my own blanks to be used for a custom key, but thought I would get a couple of more keys cut...YEOW. When the guy at the counter told me the price of the OEM key...$45.60. DANGGGGG The guy did tell me they had some plain blanks they sell, but those were backordered right now... So be careful with that OEM Key...thars gold in that thar key. Wally
  20. I am considering swapping out my Baron 4-2-4 pipes (which I hate to do because I love the look but they are getting loud) for a set of Harley pipes on my 2005 RSTD. A friend last night gave me his stock 2010 Screaming Eagle pipes. I haven't yet taken them out of the box. Looking at couple of threads here, I guess the diameter is different - 2" vs. 1 3/4" - are there adaptors and does that hurt anything? I might assume (especially in CA.) they have the catalytic converter - any problem? Since they are for the 110 motor - would I be better off looking for Road King pipes???? I might assume that a stock Harley pipe is going to have a "little more rumble" than the stock RSTD pipe, but certainly be quieter than what these 4-2-4 pipes have gotten to be (I like the sound - but many say whoa - they are loud). I'm not mechanically inclined, so thought I would ask couple of questions before messing with my buddies gift. After a lot of thought, I figured this may be the best way for me to go, as I don't have the dollars to get the Bubs - Kromewerks - or whoever else makes pipes for these bikes. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  21. So it was 25 degrees when I left the house this morning. Dang it was cold. Bike started no problems in the garage, but got me to thinking when I leave work, how cold is too cold to get it started? I have had a couple of times where it started ok, but idled very low for a few minutes (at full choke).
  22. Would we be helping the overall site by clicking on the ad in the upper right of screen. Put another way, does this site get paid by the number of clicks on these ads?? I have no problem hitting these a couple of times a day if it helps out.
  23. I asked the question on the Star site if there were any problems being a member of another orginization and a star member. The answers ranged from no problem, to no problem as long as we don't wear the other org. patch or show thier colors, to it doesn't matter Venture Riders and Venturers are just forum sites they're not Orginizations with real members. My wife and I are not renewing our membership with star because of this. We discussed it and decided we didn't want somebody else telling what we can wear, how to wear it, and so on.We have an venturers decal on our trunk, and in the next couple weeks will order the Venture Rider decal to go there also. We hate to be like this as we have made a few friends at Star but if it has to be then....Have talked to a couple of folks here and have enjoyed the site, and the knowledge of some of the members. I guess what I'm getting at is, we have found a new home. Hope ya'll don't mind. We'll try not to get to rowdy!!!!!:confused24:
  24. Got to be at Hospital at 6:30am, Daughter at her friends home until I get out. Haven't been able to sleep last couple of nights and this fiberglass brace they made doesn't fit, it's to small. I do not know what they are going to do about it, I cannot get on my feet without it after the surgery. I seem to be a lot more nervous this time, it just don't feel right. At least with that morphine drip I'll get more sleep then I've had in a couple of years. lol. I'll check in in a week or so......Bye.
  25. Received my new pocket Tee shirt today. OUTSTANDING!!!! The new logo on the back really looks good. This one is black and the logo really stands out. Now to order a couple more in different colors.
