  1. I note that a lot of people here complain about the 2nd Gen RSV has poor low speed handling, so they go about changing the bike by adding "leveling links", lowering the front end or by putting a narrower front tire on, or a combination of these. However I note on page 9-1 of my Owners Manual that it states that the RSV's Minimum turning radius is 3500 mm (137.8 in). This equates to a little under 11.5 feet..................... Who has the guts to do a U-turn in under 12 feet in stock trim????? I am TRYING to do it...... More practice and more part number 4NK-27496-00-00 and 4NK-27497-00-00 might be required. Now for the challenge: How tight of a U-turn can you do? Also please state any modifications to your suspension like in the first paragraphs of this post. If you have any modifications, I would expect you to be able to U-Turn in under 11.5 feet... BTW the MSF course double U turn box is either 24 or 20 feet wide while most police motor officer training courses are set at a MAXIMUM of 18 feet... Click HERE for a range.
  2. Do any of you have a 1999 or newer H-D Ultra Classic that you use a headset on? I was wondering if they pin out is the same for it and the 2nd Gen RSV??????? Also, I cant seem to find a pinout diagram for the 2nd gen RSV headset, but I can find one for the 1st gen in the tech library. I need one for the 2nd gen.

    part cross checking

I am a new 1st gen owner (1990). Love the bike, but have been shopping for some accesories on ebay. what is the best way for me to tell if parts from other 1st gen years, will fit my bike. Am looking specifically at drivers back rests. thanks to all for input! any one do bikers for babies in STL, MO? thinking of doing it this year.
  4. finally got the new bike on the road today.Between banks/insurance etc. As some of you know from Marcarl's birthday bash it is a 2000 Yamaha Roadstar Silverado 1600cc. It isn't a first gen but it will do for now. Not sure what I will be doing with my 87 yet.
  5. I've spent sever hours reading the forums now and there are so many references to the bike that I do not understand. I'm having a very difficult time figuring out which articles actually apply to my bike. I just bought a 1989 Venture Royale with ~30k miles. Now for the hard part..... Is this a gen 1, gen 2, gen 3 or what? What is an MK I and an MK II? As far as tires go this bike needs a set, or at least the rear. The front is slightly cupped, but has good tread. What are the recommendations for a new tire(s). There's a ton of information on the site, but man its hard to decipher it unless you have figured out who on here has which bike! Thanks for any responses, Chris
  6. There is a lot of posts concerning 1st Gen carb diaphrams being bad, how to repair them, how to replace them, places they may be obtained at varying costs, etc, etc. What I would like ask those that have much more experience than I concerning diaphrams on the lst Gen, is how does one know when one or more need replacing in the first place? What are the symptoms of a bad diaphram and should the diaphrams be regularily checked for issues? Also, if I were to find one bad can one be exchanged from a another set of carbs? Can only the diaphram be reutilized from another carb or would it be wise to exchange the entire assembly diaphram and slide together? Just curious. I don't have any carb issues at the present time but one never knows what the future may hold with a 20 year old bike.
  7. I saw a White bearded guy riding a GEN1 today on ST RD 44 on the west side of Deland. He had just come thru the intersection and waved at me and the wife on our 07 Blue/Black GEN 2 while waiting for a light to turn green.
  8. 13. I was looking for any info on a possible successor to the Venture and found this http://www.gizmag.com/yamaha-set-to-release-worlds-quickest-motorcycle/9424/ its about the new Vmax but at the very bottom of the article a Spanish moto mag is reporting a "New touring version with a huge fairing for the U.S." whatever that means could be anything from a 2nd Gen look to a Victory Vision look, went to the article but its in Spanish and since I dont "Hable" I couldnt read it. Can anyone read it and report back? Possible 3rd Gen maybe?
  14. . . Yea, and you thought I was talking about a Venture, LOL. I got a 2nd Gen iPhone for me and Mrs. GigaWhiskey. We shore like em too! Now, to figure out how to get the phone part to work with the Intercom. Now that would be cool. And, it just crossed my mind, I can watch movies while driving but better to let the wifee do that instead.
  15. Hi all, There is a guy on ebay selling a set of first gen. VR carb. diaphragms new with a starting bid of $49.99. He even shows pics of the install right on the bid page. Could these be for real? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280250975829&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:Watchlink:middle:us Item number: 280250975829 Has anyone ever used aftermarket carb. diaphragms for their first gen. with any luck? Comments would be greatly appreciated! Earl and Jean
  16. Got a chance to hear some Jardines purr on a 1st Gen today. Is there a sweeter sounding pipe for a 1st Gen?? I haven't heard any. And Brickstones on anything just plain SUCK!!!
  17. I need the help of all you ebayers out there or anyone who has purchased a bike out of state. I purchased a bike(1st Gen) out of state and I'm going to pick it up this weekend. As of right now my plan is to ride 2 up with the wife and then I'll ride the new bike back. I need to know what all (paperwork) I'll have to have to be able to ride the new back back from PA to NC. I know I have to have it on my insurance but what about tags? Can I purchase a temp tag from NC even tho I don't have the title yet? These are the type of things I need your help on. If anyone could please share their knowledge and/or experience it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Semper Fi, Jerry OH, this will be my first ride on a 1st Gen ... I'm used to the 2d Gen... any points or words of wisdom there would be helpful too! Thanks!!!!
  18. I am away from home and need to get some measurements on the seats on a 2nd Gen pillow top (had to leave the bike behind this time). Need the measurement from front to rear on both seats and the width on both as well. Thanks for any help you can give.
  19. Most places are offering a 150/90H15 and 150/90V15 which is correct for the 2nd gen and what's the difference? I don't see a matching 150/80V16 I only see a 150/80H16.
  20. Can the front forks on the first gen be dropped far enough to replace the lower bearing without removing the fairing? I will have the front tire off for replacement. It looks possible. Might have to disconnect the air line etc. Or if I remove the calipers, fender and the electrical for the anti-dive I think the whole fork assembly might drop out. Related thought on the waddle/wobble/shimmy. There are 2 isolation bushings for the handlebars. Look to be built like shock bushing. Any chance that the rubber in these goes soft? Possibly need to replace these with a delrin bushing/steel sleeve assembly. Might get a bit more vibration but the wiggle factor would be reduced. Will a standard motorcycle lift work on the 1st gen? I haven't had one under mine to check alignment. Will I need hockey pucks etc. to make the jack clear? JB
  21. did anybody steal my new m/c , i found a white 88 1st gen , this one was a knock out bike , very good lookin , called the owner , he said somebody was going to look at it and he would call me if the guy did not buy it , jim called him yesterday am was told still not sold , i call him after i got off work to tell him i'll buy it . he told me somebody from clearwater fl bought it . is anybody here the lucky new owner of a very pretty 88 white 1st gen ? if you are CONGRATS and i hate you . thom
  22. I was cleaning out my motorcycle cabinet in the garage when I found a Reserve Lighting Unit from my old First Gen (83). I no longer have her. I now have a 05 Midnight. I won the unit on E-Bay when I was chasing the dim light problem with first gens. Turned out to be the solder on the computer board and not the reserve lighting unit. So I have this one that works and no bike to put it on. If anyone is interested in it shoot me an e-mail or PM. I'll give it away,(free) if you will cover the shipping. Moakster:mo money:
  23. Anyone mount a side car to a 2 gen venture?
  24. Computer purring like a 1st Gen. And just in time to check that one going off on E-Bay!!! And they said it couldn't be done!!! Girl continues to Amaze me. I guess it is like a dead bike you try this and that til something clicks. I just don't know what to try. Oh, she just told me it is not purring as good as a 1st Gen. NOTHING DOES!!!!!
