  1. This link doesn't work. Anybody know where this info has gone? Thanks.
  2. You don't need a parts bike - you ride a 2nd Gen! Only those antique 1st Gens ever break down.
  3. Squid, thanks for the offer and the phone call this morning. You and everyone here at VR just blow me away. What a community - really more like a family! Thanks again to everyone who posted your thoughts. Yes, my bike is worth more to me than saving a couple hundred bucks and I had already decided to go the Uhaul route until Brad jumped in with his offer. I know my bike will be very safe on his trailer.
  4. Yeah, this is the one I'm looking at. Website says "newer" models have motorcycle wheel chocks so I guess I will reserve it then call them in the morning to confirm. Thanks for the help everyone.
  5. I'm leaving this week on a trip from Texas to Iowa. About 2000 miles round trip. A friend said I could borrow his trailer but after picking it up this weekend I'm having second thoughts. It's a 4x8 utility trailer with a 2x6 lumber floor and 1500 lb capacity. We got the bike up on it (barely) by putting it on diagonally, but it's a real tight fit. The thing that has me spooked is the wheels. Only 4.8x12 tires, although the wheels do have a 5 bolt pattern. I'm just not sure a trailer like this was intended for such a long trip. I'm leaning towards biting the bullet and paying $300 to rent the 5x9 utility trailer that Uhaul rents. What do you guys think? Thanks.
  6. Thanks everyone for the opinions and advice. There's some very helpful info there, but what I was really looking for is the names of the warranty companies that you have used, good, bad or ugly. I realize that the warranty is a type of insurance and that it's hopefully something that I will never use. Sooo... anybody have any specific companies to recommend (web sites are good) or to shy away from? Don't know if I can still buy a plan from the manufacturer. Car is a Chevy but I purchased it from a Ford dealer, so I don't know if I want to go back to him either. I bought the vehicle about 60 days ago. Thanks.
  7. You guys have fun. Wish I could join you but I've got to spend this weekend getting ready for my vacation. I'm headed up north to Iowa where hopefully it will be a little cooler. I'm borrowing a trailer this weekend so I can take the bike and ride around the state with my two brothers in law.
  8. Have any of you purchased extended warranties on used cars, and if so, what has been your experience. I'd like to determine if any of them are worthwhile, and if so, which companies sell the best ones. I know NOT to buy whatever the dealership is selling, as they are very overpriced. I recently bought a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer EXT 4wd with 58k and plan to keep it for 4-5 years. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  9. I've been with T-Mobile for over 8 years and mostly been pretty happy. I've had a few problems but never one that they couldn't solve to my satisfaction. They've won a lot of awards for customer service and I will attest that it is good. Right now I have 6 lines with them. Plus I'm completely hooked on the Android operating system for smart phones. If you go the smart phone route I highly recommend Android no matter which provider you select. The new ones do so much you almost don't need a laptop any more.
  10. Have y'all seen this? http://entrosys.com/ That's what I'm talking about. This thing was MADE for riding in Houston weather. They haven't yet realeased what the price will be. Probably out of reach for most of us po folks.
  11. Thanks for clearing up your statement. I agree with everything you just said. Sorry I misinterpreted your intent. I hope you're correct about most riders with modulators using good judgement. In Houston there are an awful lot of riders who have none.
  12. Thanks. Glad to hear I'm not completely alone on this. The fact that someone who uses this stated that he's seen people do stupid things to get out of his way pretty much sums up my argument against them. To those who use these, just because something make YOU safer doesn't make it right, if you end up being the cause of someone else being less safe. All I ask is that you consider using good judgement as to when and where you do and don't use it. It seems pretty clear that there are some situations where it would not be appropriate.
  13. Not really sure what this is supposed to mean? I'm not just a motorcyclist, I've been operating vehicles for nearly 40 years, put about 30,000 miles a year on my various vehicles and live in (I think) the 4th largest city in the country. This is the first time I've ever seen one of these, and thus my question here. When I have a question regarding motorcycles, I usually come here first. What's so amazing about that?
  14. Thanks for posting the law. This one kind of has me stumped. I can see a few situations where this might be helpful, but I fear that in most cases it will do more harm than good, and I just don’t have enough faith in the average rider to use enough common sense to discern the difference. I didn’t notice if there was a time frame for their use, but surely these are only legal during daylight hours, right? As distracted as I was by this today, I can’t imagine what it would be like at night with one of these guys following me on the highway for any length of time. I would probably let my temper get the better of me and slow down until he passed me, then follow him for several miles flashing my lights up and down in his mirrors. See how he likes it. I certainly hope that anyone who does use these is very careful of what situations they do and don’t use them in. I could see them on a lonely country road or on city streets with lots of cross streets. On the other hand, for the reasons already stated, I think they are completely inappropriate on limited access highways where you might be following the same vehicles for long distances, and anywhere at night.
  15. Sorry if this has been discussed before but I did search and couldn't find anything. Anyway, I was driving to work this morning when I came up on a very new looking Honda ST1300. As I passed him I noticed he was flashing his headlights at me. I couldn't figure out what I had done to tick him off so I just kept going. He must have sped up some because I noticed him again behind me a mile or so later and his headlights were still pulsing on and off. It became apparent that he was not doing this manually but must have installed something on his bike to do this constantly. It was extremely distracting. So my question is, has anybody heard about this and is it legal? While it may have made him more visible it was at the expense of taking my attention away from other things on the road, so I personally think it is dangerous and should not be legal, especially on the freeway where you may be riding long distances following the same vehicles. Also, I think it's just going to tick off most cagers and the last thing we need is something else to turn cagers against us. Any other thoughts?
  16. What a novel idea - take a bike that's already cutting edge and improve it after only 2 years. I wish Yamaha would take a page or two from that book.
  17. Congrats! that's a healthy looking kid! Doesn't look preemie at all. My daughter has the opposite problem. Going in to the hospital tonight to be induced. I should be a grandpa by sometime tomorrow.
  18. Good luck! Stay hydrated.
  19. Yes, and don't forget plane crashes, boating accidents, snow skiing, slipping in the bath tub, falling off ladders, and dare I say it..... motorcycling! Let's all lock ourselves in padded rooms, never take a risk, and hope to live to be 100... if you call that living. As for me, no thanks. I'll live my life, trust others, love my dog and yours, and occasionally maybe even someone I love or I will get hurt when I trust someone or something and they break that trust. Accidents will happen and there will always be stupid, inconsiderate people that will find a way to hurt others. It's just not possible to legislate away every conceivable danger, and if it was, that's not a society I would care to live in. Freedom and liberty involve lots of risk. It's a cost I'm willing to pay and if you really stop and think about it, I believe most of you would agree. Because once you start putting the responsibility to keep you completely safe into someone else's hands, you've given up a piece of your own freedom.
  20. Would you mind if I asked where you got your pillow tops and how much they cost? Thanks.
  21. Great idea posting this here. I got this in an email today and sent it to a good portion of my address book. Should have put it here too, but glad you did.
  22. Did you read all the comments below the article? Love the idiots who are convinced that the reaper image is directly in the riders line of sight. Obviously not bikers cause they have no clue that it is a shorty windshield! Hilarious!
  23. I've been planning to buy those wingnuts that hold the seat on. does that count?
  24. My condolences. The loss of a loved one in that matter must be very traumatic. I would think that a responsible pet owner would offer to take care of the matter in an appropriate way. That is an animal that at the very least cannot be allowed to EVER roam free. If the owner can't guarantee to insure that, then it has to be found a new home or put down. I am the owner of a dog that is 1/2 staffordshire. (one of two breeds that can be considered pit bulls) The Staffordshire, or English bull terrier is smaller than the American bull terrier, the more commonly recognized pit bull, but still exhibits many of the same physical traits. She can certainly show aggresion towards other dogs while on our nightly walks, and she does occasionally bully our other dog, a border collie, but I have never known her to actully injure another dog. Our daughter has a very small dog quite similar looking to yours. (a shiz-tzu/duchshund mix) This pup will constantly annoy, jump at and nip both our dogs, and neither has ever shown any aggresion, thankfully. If any dog I owned ever harmed another dog or a person, I would willingly put it down. Your neighbor is looking at a huge liability should his dog ever harm a person, especially now that he knows what it is capable of. Shame on him for not doing the right thing now, before it happens again.
  25. I was going to post that site also. TONS of good info and fun threads to follow. I love the thread where those guys are brewing the Sam Adams Utopia clone. That Paul the nurse guy is hilarious. Lots of interesting characters. I don't post much but my handle is TxBigHops.
