  1. do you have a link to a web site?
  2. I agree. Love modulars. Since we're on the topic of helmets, does anybody here use this review site? http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/motorcycle-helmets.htm Several years ago I stumbled across a really inexpensive modular that I use and like a lot. Well when I was looking for another helmet for my wife I thought "I don't want to go cheap on her" so I started doing reseach. Found this site, and guess what - these guys also like the same helmet that I've been using for years - the Zeus modular. Here's their review: http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/zeus-helmet/zeus-helmet.htm So guess what, I bought her a Zeus too. I too am a glasses wearer and I have zero problem with this helmet. It goes on and off without disturbing my glasses in the least. My wife's fits a bit more snug than mine and she's also a little more sensitive, so she doesn't like to wear her sunglasses with the helmet, but I think that's more her than the helmet. Another bonus, this review states the cost of a Zeus as 85-100, but I don't think I paid more than $65 on ebay. Yeah, I love my noggin, but who say's paying $200-400 gets you a safer helmet? I just don't see it. This helmet meets all the safety standards of any other modular. I really think the more costly ones are just due to name brand advertising, prettier graphics, and maybe a few extra features that aren't that big of a deal to me. So does anybody else here wear a Zeus or use the webBikeWorld review website?
  3. You have nailed the primary issue exactly. Those cameras with the shortened yellow were not installed to make the intersection safer. They were installed to make money. Shame on whoever was in charge in that municipality.
  4. I guess that would depend on which stock seat you have since it seems to me that there are quite a few different ones, some better than others. I do know that Rick Butler has modified numerous stock seats for folks here, and it's my understanding that what he does definitely improves them.
  5. Letter mentions pillow top with firmer foam so I'm thinking it might be similar to a Yamaha pillow top seat after having a Butler mod. But the pillow top isn't the base stock seat, is it? If not, then this sounds like a big improvement over the standard stock seat, and (possibly?) a slight improvement over the stock pillow top. I've got the Yamaha Corbin, so I'm looking for something a little softer and this might fit the bill if I can't find a used pillow top.
  6. No contradiction. A thirty second delay is beyond what is reasonable. If I got a ticket, I'd probably put up a stink, and then take my punishment. And I would also lobby to have it changed. Consider it civil disobedience. Actually, the reason I put that comment in my second post is because I didn't want anyone who read the first one to think that I was advocating breaking the law. Unlike a lot of folks I'm more than willing to admit that I make some poor choices, and don't feel that I am so special that I shouldn't receive the same consequences as anybody else who messes up. My point is that the 30 second delay is not a solution to the problem. It is in fact part of the CAUSE of the problem.
  7. Exactly. Like the old saying goes "give em an inch and they'll take a mile." Many of those folks are running the light BECAUSE THEY KNOW that the cross light isn't going to change right away. Whoever was in charge of making that decision has caused their own problem. If the light turns yellow and you can safely stop, then do so. if you enter the intersection after it's turned red then you should get thet book thrown at you. That's why I really don't have much of a problem with red light cameras, as long as there is a proper length of yellow. Where I do have a problem is when they intentionally shorten the yellow to raise more revenue from the tickets. Red light cameras should be about SAFETY, not MONEY.
  8. I've never been to Canada, but surely you are exagerating, or that's a typo. 30 seconds is an eternity. 3 to 4 seconds would be more than sufficient. Here in Houston, many green lights aren't more than 15-20 seconds long. If that's true, then it's no wonder there are so many runners. I've got to be honest, if I knew there were 30 seconds after the red before the next light turned green then I'd probably run a few myself.

Just checking to see if we're down... there hasn't been a post in almost an hour!
  12. Depending on Rick's answer to my other post, I might be interested in something like this, although I will need to replace my entire seat, not just the front.
  13. Rick, Thanks for weighing in on this thread. I have been planning to send my seat off to you, but now after reading this I'm not sure. The seat I have on my 2001 RSV has the Yamaha Star on it with no Corbin markings, but I've been told by others (Squidly, Gunboat) that it was made by Corbin for Yamaha. It does look almost exactly like the RSV seat on the Corbin website. So am I understanding from your post that you can't do anything to this seat to make it any better? The seat is firm and supportive, but just too darned hard, especially the passenger seat. Since we started riding with other VentureRiders this year my wife has been eying those pillow tops with envy and I've been saying as good as they look they're really not any better. Maybe I'm wrong. If you can't do anything with mine, then I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and start looking for a replacement.
  14. So I'm guessing that would put Northwood up somewhere near Mason City? Do your son's ride? My brother in law in Cedar Falls does, and my other brother in law out west in Storm Lake and his boys all ride, so hopefully I will talk my wife into letting me trailer up the RSV for our trip and we'll all figure out a way to get together for some riding. I'll let you know and possibly we can join up. Take care.
  15. Good luck with the aution. That sounds like fun. I wish I had space and time to do that. There are a lot of really cool old bikes just sitting around gathering dust and rust. It would be fun to put some of them back on the road again. BTW, I'm a displaced Iowan. Lived in Cedar Falls until moving to Houston at age 24. But I must admit I don't know where Northwood is. I'm planning to get up there this summer and hoping to bring the RSV so I'll keep an eye out for any Iowa functions. Take care. David.
  16. Looks a little rough around the edges. Given the issues, is it still worth $4900?
  17. Hey, it's a lot closer for some of us than trucking it all the way out to Waller! I'l check with Kelly, but most likely we will be there sometime during the festivities.
  18. Thanks Wally. I think that seals it for me too. I do want to investigate the vent issue though. Maybe I'll post a new thread. I barely ride in the summers in Houston because the heat can be so unbearable. Although, to be honest, it's much more of an issue when stopped in traffic than when moving, so maybe this is a non-issue.
  19. I don't think he's talking about the warranty. I think what he's saying is that the dealer he bought it from gave him a 60 day return. If so, then that's very generous on a used bike.
  20. I've used nothing but this oil in both my bikes for about 7 years. Nary a problem. Last oil change I used the Wally World brand SuperTech ST7317 (the longer one - under $3) after reading about many here researching it (i.e. cutting it open) and having good results with it. So that's a complete oil and filter change for $14. Like many have already stated, the most important thing about changing the oil is... changing it regularly. Any acceptable oil (non energy conserving) will do. So why not do it cheaply and often?
  21. From reading the F4 website, it seems this was one of the founder's goals. I think I understand that the 19.5" shield is 2 inches taller and 4 inches wider than stock, thus it should provide more protection for your rider. I also have a question - is the Clearview made of Lexan like the F4, or is it acrylic? Oops, one more question - For those of you not wanting the bigger shield, what are your reasons. I understand that some like to look over rather than through the shield. I've already made that adjustment with my stock shield, and that's in spite of it being pretty messed up. So I'm rather looking forward to the clarity of looking through a new shield. Any other negatives to the oversized ones?
  22. Can't get it to work at work. I have no idea who my company's internet provider is.
  23. Actually the 8 is directly above the 5... on the number pad. As an accountant the first thing you look for when a string of numbers don't foot is a digit keyed in that is off by 3.
