  1. There are supposed to be nuts that fasten down the drivers seat?
  2. This is a great opportunity - Thanks F4! Most on here are much more deserving than me. I only ride about 4-5,000 a year. On the other hand, I am very honest (see - if I wasn't honest, I would have said I ride 30k a year through snow, dust storms and tornado's!) and opinionated. My current shield is just about toast and I've looked longingly at the F4 for some time now. Thanks again and good luck to all!
  3. Once again, you guys here are AWESOME!!! There was a little (seriously, very little) corrosion on the positive connections. I cleaned everything up nice and shiny and... WALAA! Bike is home and seems to be running fine. So what's my lesson here? How often should I be cleaning these connections? I just put my bad boy horn on the bike this spring and I didn't notice any corrosion then. So if I get out the wire brush and sandpaper and clean everything up once a year, would that probably be enough? Thanks again Venture Riders!
  4. Around 5-6 miles. So close... and yet, so far.
  5. I don't think this is the case. Lights on the dash come and go.
  6. I'm headed up there shortly to try again in the light. I'll take some sandpaper and go over all the connections more closely than I did last night. What about a connection/short at the starter?
  7. Thanks Tom. That looks like a good link, but unfortunately, I'm a complete dodo when it comes to electrical. If that's my problem then I'm sunk.
  8. Well I'm back home. No luck, had to leave the bike there. I don't think its the battery, maybe something with the starter? I hooked up the battery tender and if the light can be believed, it is more than 80% charged. (blinking green light) I looked at the connections at the battery and everything looked clean. I loosened the bolts, moved the connecting rings around, then tightened it back up. After leaving the battery tender hooked up for about 15 minutes, I thought I had it. Turned the key and the dash lit up, and stayed lit. But as soon as I hit the starter, it went black again. I guess I need to try and figure out a way to get it home tomorrow so I can tear into it and figure out what's shorting out. Wiring at the starter or ignition switch??? This sucks. I'm OK at fixing stuff when I know what's wrong, but I'm terrible at diagnosing or finding unknown problems.
  9. So I decide to take a little ride tonight to enjoy the cooler weather. Made several stops along the way. No issues at any point. I stop at a little outdoor concert in Kingwood for about 30 minutes. Get back on the bike to head home, turn the key, the dash lights up for just a second then goes black!!! I check the kill switch, try a few more times. A couple more times it lights up for just a second or two. One of the times I quick hit the starter, but no go. I left it there and got a ride home from the wife. Now I'm going to head back with some tools. What should I be looking for? Battery has been on a battery tender off and on all summer. Can I try to jump it from my car??? Help!
  10. Prayers sent from Kelly and I. More to follow. Hang in their Ponch!
  11. So you're saying Venture Rider is like Hotel California?
  12. They're high now? Seem very reasonable compared to many other, besides some cheapies that are junk from what I hear. I've seen 380s for under $250 and from what I understand they have a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser. I was going to buy used, but the few I've seen in pawn shops are priced higher than new, so no point. Anyway, thanks to all who weighed in on this. I will check out the gun range idea - that's a good suggestions.
  13. Thanks. That's what I keep hearing so I guess it must be correct. Been looking around with my son who has a good friend who is really big into guns and has probably dozens. He has my son convinced that he won't be happy unless he gets an H&K or Kimber or other high dollar handgun. I just don't see the point - not for a first gun. I've tried to get him to look at the Bersas but he doesn't think they are good enough. Don't know what he wants - actually I don't think HE knows what he wants. If it's reliable and accurate, and has the features you need, why spend 3 times more money?
  14. Hey Beer, old thread here, but if you're still following I'm wondering what your thoughts are on Bersa. I am looking into getting my first handgun and concealed carry license and am looking very seriously at the Bersa 380 CC or 9mm ultra compact. I've seen lots of reviews and they seem to be too good to be true. Good quality firearms at bargain basement prices. Your take?
  15. Correction... YAMAHAS whine, or whistle. My 650 Maxim is worse than my RSV. It's a motorcycle. You want quiet, buy a Cadillac.
  16. Ouch! No problems at my Wally World in NE Houston. They always have the regular ($12 or 13) and the synthetic. ($19)
  17. I'm with you - I think the price is high. I bought a 2001 two years ago with 24K for $7,000. Mine had a few minor issues, but the market is a lot softer now than it was then. Mine has the Yamaha/Corbin seat and lots of extras. That seat may be a Corbin, but it's not the one Yamaha sells - the stiching isn't right. Also, mine wasn't a Midnight, which may influence the value. But as soft as the luxury item market is right now, I'd try to get at least $1,000 off, and be willing to walk away from it. There are just too many nice bikes on the market right now to not get a really good deal. And make sure it has good tires. (brand, tread, and check the codes for the age)
  18. Yup! That's why I only buy Android phones. My 20 month old phone is WAY better (does a lot more) today than the day I bought it!
  19. Just pulled in for some dinner and there's a burgundy 1st Gen parked out front. Is it anybody here?
  20. Just let me know. I'm heading out of town tomorrow and will be back on the 15th. Did you post photos of yours? Do you have the driver backrest? And I assume we would also swap passenger backrests - I guess they come off the trunk somehow.
  21. Did you ever make a trade for your pillow top? I have a Corbin that I would trade for it. Mine is black with studs. Bikes a 2001 and I think the seat was stock from Yamaha, cause there's no Corbin label on it, but others have told me that it is a Corbin. It does show some wear, but no tears. Here's a link to my Picasa site with photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/dnett57/2001YamahaRoyalStarVenture?authkey=Gv1sRgCPPNqK7cw8eO3gE#5398546919207826946 Let me know if you are interested.
  22. I've been told by a locksmith to never spray anything liquid into a lock. Only use dry graphite powder to lubricate.
  23. I'll be driving from Houston to Oklahoma City that day. Plenty of DQ's on the way, so if anybody plans an event on that route (not too far out of the way) then we'll try and join you. Leaving Houston between noon - 2PM. About 4.5 hours to Dallas. C'mon Dallas area - set one up!
  24. Those are sweet! Anybody know if they would fit on a Midnight Maxim 650?
