  1. Those color patches are WAY off. I just looked up my 2001 light grey/green over dark green and the colors shown aren't even close. Note at bottom says "color swatch is an approximation. It is not exact." They got that right!
  2. Sweet look! I also have an '01 and have been wanting that exact look. Thanks for posting.
  3. Snopes is a great site to BEGIN your research into the accuracy of urban legends and all the strange internet crap that gets forwarded around to everybody's inbox. Yeah, it's just a guy and his wife, but they do quite a bit of research themselves, and they post their sources so you can go back over what they used and form your own opinion. Hey, it's the internet - anybody can post just about anything they want if they want to go to the trouble of setting up a web site. These guys aren't perfect, they can make mistakes just like the rest of us. And if you're politically minded, they do tend to show a bit of a liberal bias. But for what they do, I'm not aware of a better place to go to find an "opinion" on just about anything of this nature that might show up in your email or get passed around on the internet. Most of us have been around long enough to klnow that you certainly can't assume anything is fact just because it's on the internet. So start at Snopes, question everything, do your own research, and make your own conclusions.
  4. Amen to that!
  5. I've seen this before. Checked out what snopes had to to say too, but I don't remember. My only comment is that I highly doubt that bike was going 85. Probably in excess of 120 or more. This looks to me like a clear case of the rider being far in excess of what he was able to control.
  6. You do not have to take off your carbs to drain the bowls. Each one has a screw that you open to drain them. Do a search and you will find threads with detailed pics. The screws are a little tough to find, and hard to get to, but they are there. I know cause I needed to drain mine when I was having carb problems last summer.
  7. That's interesting. I'm from Iowa and my son has just recently taken a job with Schlumberger and is going to be working in Laredo. Grew up in Cedar Falls and graduated from UNI. Watching the Panthers NCAA game right now.
  8. Congratulations on the grandbabycycle! Where is he in Texas? We're having a maintenance day NW of Houston tomorrow. Tell him to come show it off if it's not too far. And if it is far... ROADTRIP! That's why he got it... to ride it.
  9. This link no longer works. What was it? So am I to understand from previous post that the volume of final drive gear oil needed is less than 1/4 of a quart? I'm on my way to pick some up for tomorrow's Houston Maintenence Day. Also, where does one purchase Honda Moly60? Don't suppose I'll find it at Wally world?
  10. Thanks! Other than the obvious, what's the difference? In other words, under what circumstances might I prefer one over the other?
  11. Can anybody provide the part number for the Walmart SuperTech filter? It's not listed on the cross reference guide in the Tech Library.
  12. I don't have one yet and would be interested.
  13. Hmmm... I'd love to make a run up to Iowa this summer. I'll have to give this some thought. I grew up in Cedar Falls, went to UNI and most of my family is still in the state. GO PANTHERS!!!
  14. Since buying my RSV a couple years ago, I've done everything there is to clean my carbs including taking them off the bike to clean by hand as well as all various recommended fuel additives. The bike always had a backfire at idle and during deceleration. Then last weekend a couple of guys here on the forum synced my carbs and wa-la! No more backfire. So feel free to use SeaFoam, it's great stuff. But definitely get those carbs synced as well.
  15. From reading the responses, I think folks are interpretting what you are saying two different ways. When you say it lugs, are you trying to accelerate at 60 in 5th? As others have stated, it should cruise along smoothly at 55-60 in 5th, but you need to downshift to accelerate or climb a hill. When I first bought my RSV, I would try to get it into the higher gears fairly quickly, but now I realize as others stated that this bike likes to rev. I don't normally put it in 5th until I'm cruising at around 70 on the freeway.
  16. My mistake. I thought Carbon One was a retail brand name. Thanks for posting the link.
  17. Doesn't someone here at VentureRider make and sell an adapter that is custom to the RSV?
  18. Well, I thought about it some and I'm not going to bid. Doesn't make sense to run up the price for one of you guys cause I doubt I'm willing to go as high as someone who wants the fairing in that color. But Leadwolf, if you get it I will be happy to take the headlight ring off your hands. Let me know.

    Tinnitus

I just started noticing it a few months ago. Mine sounds like on a summer night when you hear hundreds (thousands?) of crickets. It's pretty much been constant since I first noticed it, although it seems to be worse when I don't get much sleep. Other than the annoyance, my hearing is still pretty good. I think. When I first found out what it was called I Googled it, and one guy said to gauge how bad it is, go into the bathroom and turn on the faucet. If you can't hear it over the sound of the running water then you don't have it too bad. I couldn't hear it, so I haven't done anything about it yet. I probably will go see a doctor sometime next year.
  20. My son (a mechanical engineer) and I have talked about this. I think it would be awesome on a cruiser style bike. My feeble brain has no idea what it would take to put one together, but if we could do it, it would sure be unique. Wonder if you could wedge a VW TDI into a bike frame somehow?
  21. I may also bid if it stays this low. Bubber, do you have the high bid right now? I hate to get in a bidding war with a fellow VR member. Also, if you win, do you need the headlight ring? If not maybe we can make a deal and I'll stay out of it.
  22. Hey Dave, thank for this info. I'm going to try these plugs out.
  23. Yup. There's a place like that near my home in NE Houston. Called the Hawg Stop. I've been twice on Sunday afternoons cause they've got good live music. It's what we call an ice house down here - two sides of the place are garage doors that they raise up when the weather is nice so the breeze blows through. It sits by a small lake on several acres of land. Picnic tables outside. Last time I was there it was my Venture, one Goldwing and about 40 Harleys. Plus a few American muscle cars in the "car" section of the parking lot. Everybody was cool and and we had a nice time just listening to the music and relaxing with a beer. (one) Then last weekend I went on a poker run sponsored by Kingwood Harley for an injured soldier. Easily 90% plus Harley's. We all ended up at a local sports bar and once again all was cool. I was sitting outside not far from my bike and saw several Harley riders stop next to it and give it a look. They seemed to be more admiring than thinking about kicking it over. Most folks are pretty decent here in Texas.
  24. Do you mean it is physically wider when you look at it, or that it is a wider size? I forgot to look to see if you're on a 1 Gen or a 2 Gen. On 2 Gen, stock width is 150 for both front and back.

    new enough

Yeah, I'm not having much luck yet. I'm on a tight budget and I have a narrow foot which means a lot of boots won't lace up tight enough for my tastes. I like the prices at LeatherUp.com, but I'm a little leery about mail order due to fit. Can't find anything I like at a good price in the local stores. I will watch for the sales at New Enough. It sounds like they're a great outfit to do business with.
