  1. Actually most states do require either a motorcycle license or a three wheel specific license for any vehicle over 50cc.
  2. We are planning four days to Apalachicola for spring break, and I'm planning a week to Lake Placid in September. In between a non-bike vacation,, 3 days Bahama's cruise in June. I also have a week off in mid July, and a week off in early August, but no specific plans.
  3. Closed???? I just ate there two weeks ago, and was suppose to meet a couple friends for lunch there this Saturday????

Yes Additional Comments OK, there is virtually no parking at all, but then, I don't know how you got your bike to Hawaii anyway. It has been years ago, but it was the best Mexican restaurant I'd ever eaten at, and yes I've eaten at ones in Mexico.

Food has been the same quality at all three. BJ's Blue cheese salads with pecan encrusted chicken is excellent, other menu items very good also. Famous for the crab soup and crab cakes.
  7. Name of Restaurant Mike Lenning's Street Address 3201 Upper River Rd City Louisville State or Province KY Website (Optional) - Quality of Food Good Quality of Service Great Biker Friendly? (Parking, Trusted Location, Etc.) Yes Kind of Food? (Mexican, Chinese, etc.) Fish/Country Alcohol Served? Yes Additional Comments Great Fish,, you order a fish sandwich, they ask what type of bread. You then ask for an extra tartar sauce (they make their own, I usually get a quart to go). The price for a sandwich will seem quite high, but when it comes and you have two large breaded fillets, more than enough to warrant two more pieces of bread, it is worth it. The paved portion of the parking lot is small, but there is plenty of flat gravel parking across the street. They actually have way more outdoor seating than indoor, but even so, friday evenings in the summer can be so packed you can't find a place to sit.
  8. Actually it is nitrogen enriched detergent additives,, and seeing as all detergent additives in fuel are federally controlled, it probably isn't much different or better than anyone else's. I expect if it was oxygen enriched they would have got Billy Mays to do the ads.
  9. I only have one bike at this time and it is my Venture. I love it and it is the best bike for what I need at this time. A comfortable bike good for long trips two up. But if I did not need the passenger comfort there is no doubt I would have bought an FJR1300 instead. As far as my favorite past bikes, the one I miss the most is my 88 Ninja 750. I even put soft bags on it and toured a little. 300 miles a day was a major acomplishment with it, but it was a fun bike. My knees probably couldn't last 50 miles on a Ninja now. My favorite dirt bike ever was an 89 KTM250EXC,, the most forgiving and best all around suspension on any dirtbike I've ever ridden, including three motocross bikes much newer, (96 Yamaha YZ125, 99 Husqvarna CR125 and 03 KTM250SX)
  10. The V-twin stuff is really for low HP, high torque, low reving, air cooled engines. I use the Racing 4-T myself or the equivalent Castrol full synthetic motorcycle oil. But I doubt it would hurt any thing as even though the RSV is a water cooled 4 cylinder, it does not develop that much HP, and most people don't rev them anywhere near redline.
  11. No one around here seems to have Ride-on, is it that much better than Slime?
  12. Scaling, how so very cool. The possibilities are unlimited. How about a 1/2 scale RSV engine in a V-star 650 frame. How about a 1/20 scale replica of a Mustang P38 engine for a scale airplane project. How about a, well I could go on for days.
  13. the Zeus ZS-508 comes in larger sizes than other flip up helmets.
  14. here is a comparison test of modular helmets http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/accessoriesandgear/flip_face_helmet_comparison/index.html personally the flip up that appears to be the best built to me is the French Roof Boxer http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/roof-boxer-v/ but because it is not DOT or Snell approved it is technically not legal in the US
  15. And ONCE AGAIN, the point is high beams are obnoxious, can actually blind some people even in day light, and are illegal in places. AND by running low beams AND adding amber daytime running lights (not just the almost none existent turn signal running lights) the accident rate drops 12%. Way better than running brights. I get my bonus check Friday and I'm ordering a set of the EclipzLED signals for my bike http://www.customdynamics.com/yamaha_turn_signal_retro.htm
  16. I have found that some states do not have laws against daytime high beams. As far as actually helping.. as in my last post, an actual study done in Australia found the accident rate difference between running with low beams and high beams only 2.5%.
  17. Actually low beam HIDs can be very blinding it they are mis adjusted. They are much brighter than normal low beams but have a much sharper vertical cut off. If they are adjusted properly they appear bright but not blinding, if they are up too high they are as blinding as high beams. I often notice Ford trucks and SUVs with mis-adjusted low beam HIDs that are very blinding, yet most Toyotas and Hondas with HIDs do not bother me as they seem to come from the factory adjusted better. It is obvious that, even though they are suppose to check, dealers never adjust the headlights.
  18. Actually, motorcycle headlight modulation systems, which meet the proper guidelines, are by Federal law (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 (FMVSS 108)) legal in the US and Canadian law also follows the same guidelines. And I'm going to repeat this info as I find it valuable. In a study by the Transport Accident Commission of Victoria Australia of daytime running lights, DRLs, they saw only a 2.3% decrease in accidents with lowbeams on over no lights. An additional 2.5% decrease with highbeams, With triangulated DRLs they saw 8.7% decrease in accidents, and with triangulated yellow DRLs they saw a 12.4% decrease in accidents.
  19. I don't see why you think the first two quotes are contradictory, They say two different things.. And just because getting closer to the brights helps remove the fixation, because one is likely to look away, that does not eliminate the fact it could be caused it to start with. And whether they look away or not, do you really want some confused driver in a tank of a car starting toward to to begin with. As far as the last quote, I worded it poorly, I meant a bunch of high beams.. I have no problem with most running lights and low beam passing lights. After looking around I found studies by the Transport Accident Commission of Victoria Australia. In a study of daytime running lights, DRLs, they saw only a 2.3% decrease in accidents with lowbeams on over no lights. An additional 2.5% decrease with highbeams, (OK, apparently they do help a little, but I still find them obnoxious) But with triangulated DRLs they saw 8.7% decrease in accidents, and with triangulated yellow DRLs they saw a 12.4% decrease in accidents. I have been debating on getting passing lamps or not myself,, I have decided to get them, and I'll be adding LED clusters to my front running lights/turn signals also.
  20. Having taught defensive driving you must have some statistics and facts to back up your position, I would welcome them. But you can't argue the fact that running high beams in traffic in most places it illegal.
  21. Highbeam headlights and auxiliary driving lights are not appropriate for daytime use around other vehicles. The light pattern in these lights is not designed to "mark" you in traffic it is designed to illuminate the road ahead. Driving in traffic during the day with a bunch of lights on is obnoxious and inconsiderate and it does have a negative impact on other drivers by blinding them. Because these lights have a thin "pencil beam" meant to illuminate down a long, dark road, highbeams and driving lights do not provide more visibility across a wider sweep angle, they just put more light into a small area of focus (into the eyes of an oncoming driver or into the rearview mirror directly ahead). For better visibility to other vehicles in inclement weather (rain, snow, fog) a good set of fog lights would be appropriate to help people see you, they can also help augment the low beam if aimed correctly (with the cut-off low enough). The constituency that does care is the local police, who may give you a ticket for improper equipment use. Other passive safety measures to increase your visibility, such as wearing a high-vis green, yellow or orange jacket, having retroreflective surfaces on your gear and a white or brightly colored helmet will improve your daytime visibility to other drivers without blinding people. For forward visibility to other drivers the best solution would be daytime running lights similar to the ones fitted to cars. These are aimed upwards (like highbeams) but have a wider beam angle and a much lower intensity light. Their only purpose is marking your vehicle to other drivers, not illumination. I have never seen this type of light offered as standard equipment or an accessory on motorcycles although it would be a good idea. It is from difficult to impossible for the oncoming driver to look directly at you due to the brightness of the highbeams. Which is at eye level for many cars (and for short driver in suv's). Yes, people and lights are variable, but that does not change the facts and idea expressed. Think like a non-motorcycle rider. To the Billions of people who drive but not ride, we are a non-issue. We are not soft tissue on two wheels. We are not as important to them as we are to ourselves. The closer you get, the less they want to, or are able to, look at you. And they can only guess as to where you might be now. This guess based on where you were before MERELY WANTING to avert their eyes. When they could last accept the brightness. Highbeams are as bright during the day from the point of view of the observer. Oh, and this is interesting. In World War II, subhunting planes put headlights (bright ones) on the leading edges of their wings to make themselve harder to see in the bright sky. .
  22. The company I work for (very large) uses Symantec 10.1.6.6000 file version 2/11/09 version 4 on tens of thousands of PCs, not sure what version you are using but we have very little trouble and it seems to work fine. The company I am contracted to, also very large, uses Trend Micro Office scan version 8.0. on tens of thousands of PCs. they also have very little trouble. Both companies have vast networks and run tightly controlled firewall layers along with the PC software.
  23. If I flip you off when I see your brights, please forgive me But I have slight night blindness, as to about 30% of all men over 50,, and the high contrast of unnecessary brights gives me a headache, even during the day (as do mis-adjusted HID head lights) and the pain seems to go right to the end of my road rage nerve. I request all of you use only the legal low beams and stop bothering everyone with your high beams. Besides, if you think running highs all the time is safer, think about when you half blind some 80 year old guy in a Buick Roadmaster, what do you suppose he will target fixate on, your brights. If you don't believe you are visible enough I suggest you get the legal headlight modulation system.
  24. That explains a lot
  25. I have had XM for four years, over the last two the signal strength and quality has declined, and since the merger it seems they do much more talking and promos (but they are not comercials, big diff) then before. I'm about to cancel. If any one wants my radios and mounts they will soon be available cheap.
