  1. On a second Thought, the 2-Pickup Coil Wireing Harness always referred 5 Wires which would conclude the same Setup. Probably these physical 4 Coils are named as 2 Coil Pickup, because there are 2 Coils in each Casing ?
  2. I purchased a dual Coil Set from a early 1Gen Months ago and checked them for Coil Resistance before storing them. Just for tinkering with them on my Max later this Year. I will pull them out on Monday and take a Look at them. I just can't remember the Looks of it right now.
  3. order your 2009 VMAX and feel much more Adrenalin flowing ...
  4. Hey, what's wrong with Grateful Dead or Sgt Peppers ??
  5. I've never seen such an Setup. But i know the double Track Flywheel, it might be the same as the later 2 Pickup System.

and when are you going to put your Deposit down at Flatout ?? I really envy you that Day at the Races, even if it have been Hours only.
  7. Hold the Swingram Bolt on the right Side with the Allen Head Key or Wrench in Place while thightening the Lock Nut of the Bolt with 75 FtLbs.
  8. The change from 2-coil Pickup to single Coil went in 1990 on both Bikes, Vmax and 1Gen. I never came to try exchanging the Igniter Units, but i believe a Vmax Unit will work in a 1Gen. It's just the Spark Advance Curve which makes them different. The Motor won't be hurt because of some Degrees more Spark Advance. They changed the Curve to less Advance the later Years to meet EPA Requirements. The Power is where the elder Units are. The early Vmax has up 42° Advance, the newer only 33°.
  9. Very well done, Earl, congrats on updating the Brakes on your Bike on a more recent Package and the SS Brake lines will give you another extra Perfomance. Yammi states these Rubber Brake Lines should be replaced every 4 Years because they get weaker every Years and expand more and more. This Expansion takes up some of the Pressure and giving less Power to the Pistons. They don't lie. I think, 6 Years of use are enough for stock Lines and replace them with SS-Lines. I always use shielded Lines because the outside Mesh will scrub off Paint and scratch anything they get in touch with. The SS-Lines are once in a Lifetime Replacement and the Money very well spend. Rick, the Size of the Reservoir is not the big Issue here. It's the Piston Size(14mm) and Leverage which is made up to fit the Calipers and give the best Feeling on the Lever and best Performance. I use swedish ISR Mastercylinders on my Vmax with two 8 Piston Calipers and the Reservoir is only 25 Percent the Size of a stock Reservoir. No big Deal, just replacing the Fluid every Year and all will be well. As for keeping the linked System, i never heard of anyone trying to do this. My best Guess is it will work but since the Piston Diameters will not meet the the exact Requirements of the newer Calipers, there will be Room for Improvement left. No Doubt that may be an Improvement though. For questioning the newer blue or gold Star on the rear, i have such an blue Star Caliper on my '93 and it works flawless without early Lock Ups in concert with the rear stock Mastercylinder and with the Proportioning Valve removed. I even think i may have some Room for Improvement left, but since i do not use the rear Brake that much, i'm not going to tinker with that until i'm retireing. This may take another 15 or 20 Years or so... So just to keep the the Facts in short List: 1Gen MK I Bikes ... - need lower Forklegs, because their Mounting Bolt Distance is 83mm and won't fit the 100mm Calipers - need the bigger 282 mm Brake Discs with 132 mm inner Diameter and 6 Bolt mounting Patter, Yammi uses them in several Bikes and with different Styles, the're come in solid Version like MKII has or in semi-floating Version with 10 'Floaters' between inner Mounting Part and outer Ring
  10. The MKII(-86 to '93) is the better front End because of the improved Brakes at least. The Head Light Assembly from a MKI won't fit a MKII unless you exchange the whole Fairing Stay.
  11. Actually, i believe the Harley Thing is the least bad Thing you could do ... :ignore: :D
  12. The Product sure works, (Loctite allways does a very good Job) but forming a 1 mm thick Gasket out of a more or Less liquid Material is not the best Idea when there are better Options available. Of Course, out in the Desert that another Story. I'd use this Product or what i stated above to probably save the Gasket when i need to undo the Cover next Time. A Product which is sticking will be contraproductive in this Matter. Limitations are ... Stator Cover without a Gasket will cause the Axles from Starter Gears to drag. Clutch Cover without a Gasket can scrape at the inside of the Cover. Waterpump is combined Gasket which Seals the oily Part to the Outside and the Coolant from leaking into the Oil. Middle Drive Gear Cover might Work, i never tried it, because i buy my Gaskets in more or less bulk
  13. I knew you would say this ....:crackup:
  14. But you can't replace any Cover Gasket with that Stuff. Stator Cover definately won't work, Clutch sometimes, Waterpump is too dangerous. Not sure about the middle Drive Gear.
  15. I use a Sealing Paste on every Gasket i mount. I use DP 300 which comes from Wuerth. Very good Stuff.
  16. Generally, Vacuum is build up in the complete Carb Throat between Airbox and the Intake Valve. On Idle there's a Lot of Vaccuum due to the closed Butterfly Valves. The Vacuum metering Ports are somewhere underneath the Butterfly Valves and the Cylinder Head.
  17. Excuse me, Sir We're guessing about the 3rd Gen Venture here, ain't we ?? ;)
  18. internal Memo from Star Motorcycles Marketing Divison To: Star Motorcycles Design DivisionCC: Management BCC: to whom it may concern Can you estimate a Delivery Date on the new Model ? How Much Unit are we ought to sell ? On our first quick Guess and depending on the estimate Price, we could see this outstanding Product of our joint Company Branches selling in the Range between 15 and 25 Thousand Units per Year. We should think about giving the Customer another Color Option, but other than this, this Model will outrun every Product of our Contenders, On the Street and on the overall Sellings. We appreciate your Efforts and looking forward to outsell this Model in 3 Month after first Delivery. Sincerely
  19. Jeremy, i think the mostly hot Environment you're facing most of the Time doesn't help in such technical Quirks on an old Bike like ours. The internal Design of the Starter Motor, to be specific the Grounding of the Brush Plate, gets even weaker and weaker when its hot most of the Time. I'm quite sure Yammi changed the Design on their newer Bikes (not on the 2Gen's tough) because they sure want to make Money but not because of their poor Design. They just learn their Lesson. This Mod has made made its Way through the V4-Community and done once, you won't hear anything about a weak Starter anymore.
  20. The Boost Sensor is in Fact a Vacuum Sensor. It senses the Vacuum on the #2 Cylinder just like the Thing on the Vmax. The Sensor emits a Voltage which is used from the TCI/CDI to advance the Spark.
  21. Man ... y'all sure are comparing Apples and Lemonsthere ... (Pun intended, the '83 is the Apple in that Picture) The '83 Venture is what it is .. a 1983 Bike !!! Comparing this Bike to a GL 1800 from 2004 or whenever it came on the Market doesn't give Honda a good Credit. They needed around 20 Years of building, inventing, developing and selling a Bike to finally accomplish a Bike that beats the '83 ?? Please understand me right, i'm not willing to play Devil's Acdvocat here and i'm sure not willing to take anything off the Merits of the Wing. But these are the Facts.
  22. Check the Drain Valve on lower front left of the Motor below the Radiator. It might be in the wrong Position. The Arrow on the Plastic should direct into 2 o' Clock Position. Somehow away from the the small Phillips Screw which goes in from the Side of the Valve. Be carefull while turning the Plastic, it could start leaking Coolant afterwards.
  23. You came that near of my Neck of the Woods and didn't say a Word ?? Shame on you Greg !!!
  24. or the Mixture is super lean. Would also cause such Symptoms. But i'd check the Synch-Job first before digging any deeper into that.
  25. These 2Gen are rare here in Germany, i seriously doubt that any Dealer knows anything about the TSB, I-Basket or anything deeper related to these Bikes than Oil Change, Carb Work and Valve Settings. I'd say you need to call Yamaha Germany in Neuss and talk to a Service Rep about the Problem. You can provide the TSB Number and he should be able to pull that up in their Computer. You could work something out and name the Dealer who should perform the Job. Don't expect them to be as easy as Star Motorcycles in USA. Especially when the Bike is a '99, which they will call "old" anyway.
