Moving the controls on the handlebars.

Have you installed the bar risers? If not, these will help a lot in getting the "right position".- 9 replies

another I basket question
SilvrT replied to david Taylor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes, you need a VERY SPECIAL tool... one like this... Oh, and you will also need a torque wrench... ... the word "improvise" comes to mind, doesn't it? -
That's fine IF it's the rear end that's whining. If it's the clutch basket, then replacing the rear end won't make any difference IMHO. There's LOTS of info here on the site about the clutch basket and specifically the I-basket.

"I" basket question
SilvrT replied to david Taylor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've posted quite a bit about when I got my I-basket so I'm sure a search will find that info. Basically the whine was very annoying and just at an rpm that was where I would run at most of the time, especially in 2nd thru 4th. If I up-shifted, the revs were too low and vice versa. The I-basket reduced the whine quite a bit and it seems to occur at a bit lower rpm. Having said that, and now that I've had it in the bike a whole year, I'm noticing the whine getting a bit worse than when I first installed the I-basket. Not quite bothersome yet but almost. I am running drilled out RK mufflers and have intercom headset so I just turn up the tunes during those times when I start noticing the whine. Mostly it's noticeable around the city when I am in 2nd or 3rd but once I'm up to highway speed and into 4th or 5th I don't hear it so much. Like some others have mentioned, I really like the RSV but if the whine gets worse to a point where it really bothers me, I will get rid of the bike. Hate to have to do that as it's almost paid for and I really can't afford to buy anything new so that will probably mean buying either another 1st gen or an older Wing or maybe just a cruiser. Been looking at some pre-2001 Wings and there's some really nice one's out there for sale for a reasonable price. -
dang, that sukz ! So, is it necessary to have the bearing collar in order to balance the wheel?? I ask because I never took my bearing collars (front or rear) to the shop when I had new tires mounted and balanced.

Bill, I can't answer your Q but man, you gotta take a ride up there someday. Well worth the ride and nothing at all like the old road.

Every once in a while, when you post something about the Sudbury area, I google map the place and find myself "cruisin" Sudbury and so many memories come flowing back into my head. While many of the old "landmarks" are still there, I can see there's been a lot of changes. I'm hoping one day to visit the place ... it's been a long, long time ... like over 40 years since I was last there.

The difference is, in your case, is out there on the flat prairie, one has to travel 300 miles just to find civilization, not to mention a bend in the road! :stickpoke:

All our systems at work are Dell and we've had very little problem with any of them. When we do, Dell is very quick to fix them when they're still under warranty. A few years back I did contract work for a major wood producing company with sawmills and pulp mills all over BC and Alberta and all of their systems were Dell. Same thing... very few problems. Our oldest desktop PC's at work are coming up 5 years and still running strong.

My last bike which was an '87 with over 100k km on it... we rode 2-up from Vancouver, BC, Canada to San Lois Obispo CA via mostly the coast hwy and back thru Fresno, Yosemite, Reno, Klamath falls, North Cascades pass. Couple years back before I sold her, I rode it 24 hrs & 1434 km's Vancouver to biggar Sask ... picked up the wife and rode back (not a 24 hr ride that time). Years ago when I had my '85 VR, I rode several times back and forth from Kamloops, BC to Vancouver and all over the interior of BC and into Alberta. Current owner of my '87 has put more miles an it than I did... I bet that bike is well over 200k now. When I sold my '85, it had over 100k miles on it and was still running strong. Never had any issues with either bike. these bikes will go forever... kinda like the Duracell battery... LOL

It's not uncommon to hear about somebody getting shot around here. As I mentioned above is but one incident of probably a once a week shooting occurrence somewhere in the lower mainland area. Drive-by shootings, Gang war shooting, you name it, we got it ... teenage kids packing loaded guns into school even!

That goes to show how little you know about Canadians. There are more of them packing weapons than anyone realizes and I would be especially wary of Asians ... sorry, not meaning to single them out but it's the truth!

Clutch questions (upgrade)
SilvrT replied to dragerman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I first noticed my clutch slipping a couple month's ago with appx 32,000 kilometers on the bike. This slippage was occurring when I did some high-rev power shifts between 3rd & 4th. I ordered skydoc_17's kit and when I pulled my clutch apart, one of the metal discs was partially blued already. I was able to clean that up with some emery paper. After installing the kit with the PCW spring, I did the power shift again... and again.... NO MORE SLIPPING! The thing is, if you don't do something about it asap, it will eventually cause you to have to replace those discs. Of course, if you don't drive it hard like some of us do, they may never wear out LOL -
Current MSRP for a2011 RSV in Canada is $23,899 I don't know what the MSRP for a Harley Electra Ultra is but dealers here have them listed at $25,000 and that's with ABS. The Limited with the 103 ci engine and chrome wheels is only $28,000. Pricey?? If I was in the market for a new bike and those were my choices, I'd pay the extra $ and get current technology.

What I've come to discover about the "Sunshine" Coast is it's a lot like Klamath Falls .... Was named that way to attract settlers (or tourists) coz there ain't no "falls" at Klamath nor have I seen much sunshine on the Sunshine Coast times I've been on it LMAO!!!

someday, I might ... just MIGHT have an answer for ya.... (and it better be a GOOD ONE!)

A week or so back, I had been planning a great 3-day May long weekend ride/getaway ... just myself! Weatherman was forecasting decent weather... in fact, for the past 3 days it's been awesome! Nina and her daughters were taking off to Penticton in our truck for a reunion with family friends from long before my time. I had the whole weekend to myself and I was just gonna RIDE! Until this ..... :crying: :crying: Yep... I'll have a nice weekend to myself ... ALL ALONE AT HOME! and what's worse, no cage to drive.

ROAD RAGE at it's finest! There was an incident of Road Rage here about a month ago ... the offending driver got out of his car and shot the guy who was enraged. This kind of thing is happening more often than not. I just let it go .... sooner or later for them it will be "what goes around, comes around".

LOL... they're just covering their a$$. Windows itself will warn you when you choose to display/view hidden/system files. Totally up to you guys. Me on the other hand... I would not hesitate but I guess that comes from years and years of troubleshooting/repairing peoples computer problems. I'm not so sure that "auto-complete" thing is the problem anyway as when you reply to an email, the auto-complete doesn't necessarilly come into play as the reply uses the embedded "Reply to" email addy.
-
The hidden file has a NK2 extension. Check this web page out for it's location. http://www.outlookpower.com/issues/issue200609/00001847001 Look on the second page. Try renaming that file. Make sure Outlook is not open at the time. Then, open Outlook and see what happens.
-
Not necessarilly ... turn them off if for nothing else but to rule them out.
-
That's a thought but since Vic doesn't have any problems with any body else's email addy, then I doubt his Outlook setup is incorrect. Either something in Outlook is stopping email to Condor's addy or something on Vic's computer is such as, Virus scanner, spam blocker, firewall, etc, etc
-
Also, have Vic turn off any spam filtering software or virus checking or firewall software before sending... this will eliminate those apps
