1. I'm sorry but IMHO that is like saying if you can smell a skunk, you've been sprayed. The exhaust smell is not a product of CO and if you're out in the OPEN AIR, the CO will disperse in the air ... I doubt you'd inhale enough of it to cause any problem. If that were the case, I'da been asleep years ago and so would many of the rest of you. :witch_brew:
2. That's where mine sits all winter .... in fact, all FALL, WINTER, and most of SPRING (frikkin weather!!)
3. From looking at your trailer, this is probably happening due to the large flat front surface of it. I noticed the additional loudness when I pulled my trailer but no exhaust smell. I have the RK slip-ons. Possibly turn-down or out tips would help with the smell. Just my opinion but I don't think the small amount of smell you're getting will cause any harm as it's the extended exposure to the carbon-monoxide that will do that and it's probably being dispersed sufficiently in this case.
4. What .... is that Carbon One holdin yer bike up?? I don't see no "lift adapter" ....
5. Welcome aboard from a fellow "Vancouverite" (actually Burnaby)! Yes, Calif/Oregon coast hwy 101 is a must. You could also go inland from Morrow Bay or even a bit farther north, over to Fresno and up thru Yosemite, then north thru Reno and take the north, inland route (395 to Susanville, then 139 to Klamath Falls) from there. Great riding country although I don't know what kinda weather you'd encounter at this time of year.
6. Not even 5000 kilomters on my scoot and it was doing that. Factory doesn't know what "grease" means!
7. Nina & I rode that coast in mid August (3 or 4 years ago) and it was crappy weather most of the time. I've personally done the Oregon coast (101) 4 times and only once did I have nice weather ... but, I never did it in May so you might hit it right.
8. How about it Jack... are you or are you not delusional? nahhhhhhhh ... forget that ... I know the answer!
9. Jack, sounds to me like you wanna blow away some 1st gen's ....
10. Check out the Sand Dunes (forgot which city they're at) but you can rent dunebuggy's and have a real blast!
11. Ain't that the TRUTH !!!
12. Evan, keep us "in the loop" as to when you're arriving .... will be glad to show you around and if space is available at the time, you can bunk at our house.
13. When I was young and "wrenching", I did a lot of engine steam cleaning/detailing. Always removed the distributor caps and blew them out and then sprayed WD40 all over that and the plug wires and other electrical contacts prior to steaming and afterwards. Also used plain axle grease on the battery posts. That was before they had specialized coatings in spray cans for that.
14. Thanks for pointing this out.... it jogged my memory in that I now remember having seen things like bulb contacts having a film of grease on them. OK, great responses ... I now "get it"
15. OK, here comes my dumb question. I have never, ever, ever used, or heard of anyone using this dielectric grease, EVER ... until I heard it in this VR.org. I have never, ever, ever had a problem or have heard of anyone having a problem that this grease is supposed to prevent.... EVER ... not on any motorcycle I have ever owned or ridden, not on any ATV, Snow machine or any 4 wheeled vehicle.... EVER. So why does it seem to be such an important thing on these here Yamaha Venture bikes??? I never used it on either of my 1st gens and I never had any problems with the radios. Never used it on my '83 goldwing and never had any radio problems. Is this a specific issue associated to the 2nd gen???? Sorry, but I just don't "get it" :confused24:
16. subliminal messaging gotcha eh?
17. waddya mean ... "aren't" ... of course we're BAD ... Bad to da bone!! (speaking for myself of course)
18. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:
19. Wayne, keep us posted on a date that you decide to rent a bike so we all can get together for a ride. There's a number of us in the area and it's a good "excuse" for an impromtu M&E. -Rick
20. Yes... the dates you will be here.
21. Speaking of which (and not meaning to hijack your thread), We are currently paying $1.37.2 per litre which equates to $5.20/US gal or $6.24/UK gal. Went to Seattle last weekend and just across the border, gas was at $4.09/US gal.
22. I used to get some real bad pain in my neck and shoulder after riding for a while. This is a few years back and it went on like that for several years before. I eventually discovered that the weight of the helmet, along with wind buffeting, and getting too cold to the point that I was tensed up a lot was causing it. I got a lighter helmet which helped a lot and learned to be more relaxed and not keep riding when I got cold. Since then, I've had very little problem until I got the RSV but then the pain was in a slightly different area which the risers took care of.
23. We've been averaging 4 degrees celcius below normal and just about every day we get rained on. Appx every 2nd week we'll get a break and have a somewhat clear, sunny day but except for last weekend, even the sunny days haven't seen temps up to par. Unfortunately, not all of those "intermittent" sunny days have fallen on a weekend which really "dampens" my riding time. This past weekend it was absolutely gorgeous but wouldn't you know it, we were out of town in the cage and didn't get to ride. Now back at home and it's rain, rain, rain for the rest of the week.
24. When I first got my RSV, I had similar back and neck pain. Installed the Bar Risers and *poof* ... no more pain. It's quite amazing that a slight change in the position of the handlebars can make so much of a difference.
