No question about it, get the CarbonOne lift adapter. You can find it in the Classified section. If you want to do more than just change the oil, you should probably spring for the one with the legs. It makes a nice, stable platform for your bike while allowing you to remove the jack. RR

Good looking lady on a good looking bike - that shoots guns and is soon to be gainfully employed. I may have to push my 20 yo son to take a nice ride to Ohio. Seriously though, good on her. RR

This weekend will be my first entry into an organized Long Distance Rally. The Minnesota 1000 is run by Team Strange out of Leo's South in Lakeville, MN. The rally begins at 8:00 am Saturday and is completed at 8:00 am on Sunday. Of course, the Liar's Banquet is held Friday night and the awards ceremony is held after the completion, but it is a 24 hour ride. Website: http://www.teamstrange.com/ The basics of the rally are: 1) A list of bonus locations are provided at the Friday night Liar's Banquet. 2) Each bonus location has a point value assigned. 3) Each bonus will be located within about a 500 mile radius of Lakeville, give or take a hundred miles. 4) You determine your own route based on the bonus locations you think you can get and still return by 8:00 am Sunday. 5) Proof of reaching a bonus can vary - a picture (with a time stamp), purchase an article, copy down an inscription, etc. 6) He (or she) with the most 'captured' bonus points - assuming the ride was completed on time - wins. I believe there are also points for keeping a fuel log, a rest bonus (stay in one location for a minimum of 3 hours), and other various hijinks. The rolling couch (2000 Red RSV) has been ColorTuned, CarbTuned, all fluids changed, new plugs, new air cleaners, Dynabeads in the NEW Dunlop E3 rear (no tire issues this trip, please), splines lubed, pins lubed, new to me Corbin seat, washed, waxed, and new tunes installed on the Zumo. Will be adding a bicycle water bottle cage onto the handle bars later this afternoon. I take off tomorrow with the intention of getting to the hotel by early afternoon. This will give me time to set up the trip planning computer, lay out the maps, and take a nap before the banquet. Once the banquet has been completed, I will need to get my route laid out, plugged into the Zumo, and get some sleep. Just hoping to finish on time with a respectable point total. This should be a lot of fun. I will let y'all know how it goes. RR

Well, it looks like I will just need to make it happen. The bride and some of the kids are going to a lake cottage for a week sometime early this summer. That might be a good time to do this. I will check the schedule and let you know. RR

Jeff, I am down in Fond du Lac and do all my own wrenching. If you would like to stop by sometime and have some assistance for maintenance, let me know. I will be gone this weekend, but will be around for the next several weekends (at least the social director has not advised me of any plans). Welcome to the family. Look forward to meeting you. Perhaps I should organize a maintenance day for the WI area since I am kind of in the middle of the populated portion of the state. RR

Remove lower fairing to change air filters?
RedRider replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just did this over the weekend and never imagined removing the cowlings first. However, since everything needed cleaning (badly) anyway, I should have. Oh well, hope to remember next time. RR -
transmission trouble on 2nd generation
RedRider replied to glscruggs's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
This is the first I have heard of transmission trouble with the 2nd Gen. Would be interested to know more once the stealer has an opportunity to repair the damage. RR -
Can't get the Drive hub Pins out???
RedRider replied to Reaney in NH's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just discovered this myself last weekend after 15 minutes of prying to get it apart. Wiped everything down really well and then noticed the C-clip. Felt pretty stupid. But now I now. RR -
The standard first step in addressing any of the issues related to the communcation module is to open the fairing and disconnect all the connectors to the comm control. Slather them with dielectric grease and re-seat them. It may be best to do them one at a time; however, they are color coded. If that doesn't work, use that great warranty. RR

More Stories on the RSV Float Levels
RedRider replied to V7Goose's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Goose, I would buy (for a reasonable fee that would at least cover shipping) a video of setting the carb floats. Taking the carbs out and putting them back is the part that concerns me. I will, however, take the plung and do it soon - with or without the video. RR -
I have place a Tail of the Dragon sticker on one side of my trunk and a IronButt organization sticker on the other side. Both are very small (~ 2" x 2"). Will shortly be placing the VentureRider.org sticker on the windshield. On the KLR, I am beginning to populate the aluminum panniers with stickers. Intend to completely cover these ugly protrusions eventually. RR

I believe it is Rick Butler. Edit: I knew it started with a B. Sorry Buddy, I bought a cable from you a couple of years ago and had my seat done by Rick last year. Mixed 'em up. RR

There are a couple of different volume controls on the Zumo. There is one for music, and a seperate one for the direction chick. Make sure you turned up the correct one. RR

You are working on getting back into the helmet slaps and jabs in the side, aren't you? RR

Maybe you just need a new clutch basket. RR

There is a volume adjustment on the Ipod, another one on the Zumo, and yet another one on the bike radio controls. Turn the Ipod and Zumo all the way up and just use the bike control for volume. Zumo volume adjustment can be done by pressing the bottom left button and adjusting with the + / - buttons just above on the left. RR

I have never seen or heard of that setup before. Doesn't mean it isn't good, just unknown. The price is right though. For a system that has been proven (at least to me) look at the J&M setup. They have been around for a long time and are good folks to deal with. There product is top notch, not cheap though. Let us know what you decide. RR

The catching up is the fun part. Once it is filled in, then what? Guess I'd have to start on Canada. RR

Anyone know whether an Emerald ash Borer would be interested in Maple?
RedRider replied to GG54172's topic in Watering Hole
Call your county 4H ag guy. He will either come check it out himself or send someone with more expertise out to evaluate the critter. They will not take it lightly. RR PS. How's the football going? Post a schedule in case some of us have a need to go somewhere on the weekend. -
Bike only - at least mine is. Still got to do that left coast thing. Too much white. RR
