The case of the mysterious clutch fluid leak
Hulign replied to Goat Roper's topic in General Tech Talk
Have seen this on cars before. Hard to say why, but every time it happened the car came back. I stopped debating why and started replacing parts. There's only one part and a hose involved. Getting stranded without a clutch would suck. A piece of dirt in a seal that got dislodged while bleeding? Good luck Frank -
I use custom molded ear plugs. Can buy the kit at a good sporting good store. Can also mold them around a good set of headphones and they are amazing. Earfuze.com sells some too but they are a bit tinny. Frank

Mark, Thanks for the offer! It does me good to know there's more than just me in NE. A couple guys scattered around but for the most part I am surrounded by HD and Goldwings I have yet to run down another Venture owner around here. Always bad timing and wrong direction. Thanks again, Frank

On my last bike(Vmax) when I wired dual headlights I wired them both thru relays and used a diode so both lights would come on when I used high beam.Made a huge difference and cost almost nothing in time or money. I have found plugs that would work at a Napa before. Won't hurt to check. Frank

We just went by you earlier this month enroute to Hill City SD from Lincoln NE. Now I'm kicking myself for not doing this trip instead. Might make the ride up to Alliance again soon. Carhenge was a fascinating place for me and I promised to ride up with a friend. Safe journey all Frank

Windshield Trim Mount Tab Broken
Hulign replied to mnelson's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had a similar problem with mine. The answer is simple. Plastex... Mine was broken at the base so yours might be easier. I would take a blade to it and scrape back the chrome and kind of V the area. Then just follow the instructions. I dare say mine is stronger than when it was made. Just done get too crazy with the liquid part on the chrome. Mine lifted a bit on the underside. If you do a search I think I posted pics and a review. Good luck Frank -
Well this is not the way I wanted to test the dealerships service but I'm hoping for the best. I stopped at my local dealer and got a brush off. So we went 50 miles to Omaha. I don't mind the drive to get a dealer that will do the job right. Time will tell Frank

My windshield is missing those 2 center bolts as well. It goes in to the dealer next week to to it breaking the end tabs off the inner fairing. Wish me luck Frank

I have used my HTC Evo for GPS and Pandora. I just opened the tape deck door and velcroed a spare case to sit there. It worked fine but the display is a bit too shiny to see most of the time. Let us know what you figure out Frank

Reading that made the hair stand up on my neck! Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Frank

Hey Jim, Welcome! Might want to do a search for "butler seat mod" Rick is the man around here. You will be glad you spent the money. Enjoy that recliner on wheels Frank

Garmin would have swapped the mount but I didn't want to wait and was irritated since it was only a couple weeks old. It seems the Zumo 550 is just older tech. The 660 might be better newer tech but then we are into the 700.00 range. That is getting into a crazy bit of money. This one as cheap as it is I will pry it open and fix the jack myself if it goes bad later. Frank

Ok so my initial thoughts on the car GPS (765T) VS the Motorcycle GPS (Zumo 550)... The 765T bigger screen boots faster music player shows the next couple tracks and doesn't stutter when maps are calculated music shortcut on map screen better playlist management shows the speed limit more detail at complicated intersections has 3d buildings on the map has traffic info (havent used this feature) Stereo bluetooth output my refurb was 130 bucks (180 with ram mounts and power cord) The 550 Brighter screen waterproof XM has modes that change with the mount car/motorcycle comes with all the mounting stuff you need car and bike mic input, audio output and power input all on the mounting base cost 585 bucks So the 765T will be a bit more of a pain if I have to cover it due to weather and the screen isn't as nice. But the faster boot up,speed limit, stereo bluetooth and the software differences are a huge gain. So I will keep a baggie handy and save the 400.00 Frank

Looks like it's between Norfolk and Omaha so maybe best they stay put there. -

Mike, Sorry we aren't out that way to help.... Best thing is to call the local PD. Nothing good can come from you heading out in the mess. No tornado watch or anything right now. Please post back and let us know if everything is ok. Frank -
I bought the 765T for 130.00 refurbished on Amazon, it has a mic input on the dock. The ram mount is made to hold the car dock as well so I should be covered for mic in and speaker out. The nice thing about the 765T is it also has stereo out via bluetooth and the larger screen. It doesn't have the gas gauge feature or the hard buttons on the outside but I think the different shortcuts more than make up for the missing buttons and the gas gauge on the bike works great. Frank

Well we havent had the Zumo but for a few weeks and already having problems. The Audio output jack seems to be buggy and have had a few lockups. Honestly I do like the Navigation and having MP3's on the same device but I have real doubts on this one being worth the 600.00. I don't need or want the XM feature and find myself using the screen buttons more than the ones on the outside body. I have seen some cool features on a few much cheaper units. One being the lane assist and the current speed limit on screen. The other models have better shortcuts to flip to the music player from the map screen as well. So I broke down and ordered a car model Garmin 765T. Even with buying the mount and power cord we wont break 200.00 and it really seems to have everything but the waterproofing (I think I have room for a baggy). I hope it works out...if not I will bite the bullet for a 660 or other model. Frank

Final Countdown of Cody Trailer Tickets - 2011
Hulign replied to Lone Eagle's topic in Watering Hole
I really wish I could make the event but I will just be happy with winning the trailer. Have fun all and post pictures Frank -
Funny thing is I sold a Vmax to get the Venture. I really thought the Vmax was rare in my neck of the woods. Seemed like I seen the same 5 bikes over and over. We have 5000 miles on the Venture now and I think we have seen 3 or 4 total. They are always going the wrong way and I am always in a hurry! Are they this rare everywhere? I guess I will just keep stalking...haha Frank

Glad you are ok! Now get the bike fixed, change your shorts and get back out there! Frank
