  1. I experienced electrical gremlins last fall on my 1990 Royale. Strange behaviors. Too intermittent to diagnose specifically, but there seemed to be some relationship to the ignition switch and/or the "IGNITION" fused circuit. I know that ignition switch problems are not very frequent on First Generation Ventures, unlike the Second Gens, never the less I felt I may be having an issue with mine. So to cure possible problems with IGNITION fuse and the ignition switch, I replaced the OEM fuse block with a new fuse block that accepts ATC fuses and I added an "ACCESSORIES" auxiliary block. This auxiliary accessories fuse block is only energized when ignition switch is at ACC or ON. To prevent excessive current draw through the ignition switch, I fed the auxiliary accessories block via a 30Amp relay and 10GAuge wire. When the OEM ACC circuit is energized by the ignition switch, the relay is energized, closing the circuit from the battery to the positive lug post on the auxiliary accessories fuse block. To avoid grounding issues for added accessories, I created a common grounding terminal strip. This terminal strip is connected to the negative post of the battery with a short length of 10GA wire. The terminals on the terminal strip are electrically connected to each other with a heavy brass buss. The fuse blocks and terminal strip are mounted to the unvented maintenance free battery with double face foam "Gorilla" tape. The battery top presented a smooth surface for mounting via tape. This method probably wouldn't work for conventional batteries. I relocated the MAIN fuse to just in front of the Positive battery post. I relocated the CLASS fuse holder to under the other OEM fuse block that contains the AUDIO, BACKUP,etc. fuses for now, but I intend to utilize the remaining fuse position on the new "main fuse block" for the CLASS. Thank you, Earl for the fuse block.
  2. Apache Junction, Arizona for wintering. Several large RV parks there for the snowbirds. Also check out Pharr and McAllen, Texas for same.
  3. I feel your pain, Jeff. I live 80 miles or so west of Chicagoland near I-80 and I-39. There have been many times over the years when I wanted to go to Michigan's western shore and to parts East like, Niagara and Pennsylvania, New York, etc. and I always started puckering up around Hammond and Gary. An awful lot of traffic gets funneled through that I-80/94 corridor. I've gone so far as to take a route that goes through Kankakee into Indiana then veer north. But you know, being in Milwaukee area, if I despised Chicago traffic as much as I do, I would go clear out to I-39 and then east on I-80. Course you'll still have to contend with the Borman and that ilk. Good luck and let me know what you figure out. I'm all ears.
  4. Try flushing and bleeding first.

  6. It was my understanding that the reason for drilled/slotted/wave rotors was to allow for the escape of gases generated when heavy braking superheats the pad material, causing off gassing.
  7. Well, you lucky dog, Shorty! I don't suppose it crossed your mind for one leeeetle second that Deb and I would like a warm weather escape, huh? Well did it? Nooooo. Have fun anyway, you deserter!
  8. Depending on the dent, you may find that a toilet plunger will pull it out. No harm, no cost.
  9. Model years as determined by the VIN: 1983= D 1984= E 1985= F 1986= G 1987= H 1988= J 1989= K 1990= L 1991= M 1992= N 1993= P

  11. It works for me. Saved to my 'puter for the future, eh?
  12. ROYAL STAR VENTURE 1988 (FRONT) I must have missed that year RSV.
  13. I would suggest that it almost became DEADLY!
  14. Can the stock black plastic scoops be chromed?
  15. Jeff, "Draft blower" implies newer high efficiency furnace. Usually such furnaces have a pretty lengthy warranty. Check with the outfit that sold/installed it?
  16. Sorry 'bout hi-jacking your thread, Ray. But, I noticed that the same bidder who paid $88 for the chrome scoops also bought the $25 chrome scoops from Pinwall and is also the same bidder who paid $52 for the Markland chrome "frame covers" for a First Gen.
  17. Mike, I've sent you a PM explaining the shipping. I was going to enclose a couple pics of the fairing trim mounted on the '90, but I don't see a way to include pics with a PM, so I'll post them here.
  18. Is this what you want? This is a pic of one that sold on eBay a few weeks ago for $20.50. This is not a pic of the one I have, but it is identical to the one I am offering to you.
  19. Snaggletooth, I have an extra one of those fairing trim pieces that you are looking for. Chrome is good, but the PO drilled a couple small (1/8") holes in it (to mount lights maybe?). Also arrived slightly bent, but I straightened it and was going to mount it on my '83. (I already have one on my '90). I'd like to give it to you as a "pay it forward" (Thanks, Earl). Times are tough here at my household, though, and I would appreciate it if you could pay the shipping costs. And NO, I didn't even bid on those chrome vents.

  21. Thanks, Don, though I am not sure I understand everything you said. There was a related (?) issue last night. Even though I had made a post just a few minutes prior, the site said I made that post "yesterday". In fact, all the posts of December 3 were labeled "yesterday" as in December 2, but of course I had made the posts on December 3. If the database thinks I make today's posts "yesterday", or 1800 minutes ago, then I see why the threads are marked read, it has timed out. But, why would it think I was posting "yesterday" when I had posted just a few minutes previously?
  22. When I visit the site and look at the forums, but not the threads, the forum gods think I have viewed each thread and so when I return later in the day and ask to see the NEW POSTS, I am offered only those that have been started since my last visit. The threads that were ongoing when I last visited are now marked as "read", even though I did not read them. I have to wade through all the threads to make sure I haven't missed anything. Is it a Firefox setting I can adjust?
  23. You can identify a Standard or Royale by the VIN. Your VIN should look like this if it is a 1983 Standard: JYA26H00xDA00xxxx If it is a 1983 Royale it will be: JYA31M00xDA00xxxx "DA" is the year code for a 1983, as well as some 1984, but the 1984 DA will have JYA47R00xDA00xxxx if it is a Standard and JYA47T00xDA00xxxx if it is a Royale. Some call these bikes 1983½. A true 1984 VIN will be: JYA41R00xEA00xxxx for the Standard and JYA41V00xEA00xxxx for the Royale. What is your VIN? It is found on a white label on the lower right frame under your right toe. It is also found stamped into the steering neck.
  24. Thanks, Jack for the reminder. It prompted me to find my pdf copies of the Venture Touring Society publications. Then I remembered where I got my copies.
